I'm here because my wife and I uh we were both School teachers and um we retired from teaching so that I could do the music fulltime and she got the opport to coach girls basketball with Kobe Bryant wow but um on uh on January 26th of 2020 I lost my wife oh no in the same helicopter crash that killed Kobe [Music] Bryan wow I'm so sorry before January 26th me and Christina lived this dreamy kind of life we met in 2004 she came and saw me playing at this dive bar and I asked her out

and we sat in my car and we talked about music would you say she was your greatest supporter oh yeah she was just this um very humble powerful beautiful human being my mom said if you don't marry that girl you're you're stupid we were married for 15 years we had three beautiful children it was filled with love when she left that day she kissed me and she said I love you and that was the last thing my wife ever said to me yeah your whole life changes in a second that was pain my focus immediately

went to my children you start to say all right she would want me to carry on rainbow car she would want their kids to have happy lives which I don't know it's possible but I'm I'm going to [Music] try you know if I had it my way I would have my wife and I'd be supporting her but that's that's not what happened you know it's been a rough year but um here I am could Fe you and you kids are they here yeah they were here hello oh what a beautiful family okay well I'm not

going to ask anything else Matt all I can say is best of luck thank you thank you I want him to be great unbelievable [Music] how can I just let you walk away let you leave without a chance when I stand here taking every breath for you you're the only one who really knew me at all so take a look at me now there's just this empty space there's nothing left here to mind me just a memory of of your face take a look at me now I'll still be standing here and you coming back

as a man as a strong man standing there it I don't know it was very special I was very emotional very touching thank you thank you for being here thank you thank you Matt so let me ask you a question um so what would you like to happen if you did well on this show I would like to um that's a good question I haven't gotten that far I would like to make sure that my children see that in spite of the grief that we've been through this year and that that grief is not going

have to say my favorite outfit today mine too yes thank you so much welcome let's start with your name please um my name is Avery Dixon and where are you from I'm from from Atlanta Georgia I love Atlanta how old are you um I'm 21 21 okay now I'm guessing you're going to play the San um yes I think I'll guess that you're right so um I'm really curious ay because I I find with the saxophone it sort of goes in and out of fashion over the years what do you feel about that yeah going

in and out of fashion depends on the player oh good Point Yay good answer and tell me what got you into this okay so at the time I picked up the saxophone I was getting bullied in elementary school for what um well my voice sounds a little bit different you got a great voice and I looked a little bit different too and my Elementary School nickname was Hammerhead because because I had these knots on my head because I'm premature I was born at 1B 8 oz wa oh and my vocal cords don't close all the

way so it made my voice sound really Airy right students was so negative about my voice one called me frog and she'd get the class in on the joke it was relentless and I actually I was so in such a dark place I actually wanted to commit suicide wow and when you're in that mindset the only thing you want to do is quit so you decided to find something to take your mind away from all those horrible people and it was the saxophone yes that's when I started actually learning how to play good for you

good for you what would you do if you were to win well first I'd want to give my mom and my brother a space where we can actually live as loud as you want to be because I can't exactly practice where I live now somebody had called the cops on me before I flew out really I was trying to practice because doing a show as big as this I want to get everything perfect for sure so they had called the cops the cops came banging on the door they were like you need to be quiet

my goal with the music with this is to be able to do the thing I love and if I can do that I'll have found my purpose for being an America's Got Talent well look Avery here you can be as loud as you like thank you yes my ay can I please get some water yeah kind of drying up here I think it will be on there you are how quick is that yes sir he's [Music] thirsty a he's nervous are you okay yes I'll be fine I'm sorry don't worry don't worry please be good

so emotional look at this people it's like it was special to us because we could feel how special it is for you and I think America is going to fall in love with you a uh look every time I hear a story about a kid being bullied at school it breaks my heart it breaks it even more now because I have a you know a son myself and I could not think of anything worse any one of those idiots who bullied you now I hope is watching this audition look you know I all of us

were willing you to be good I didn't know you were going to be great it was like listening to a singer you know you had the ups and the downs and you got 4,000 people in here on their feet so it's in your blood oh this is your destiny if you were looking for validation you just got it because I'm going to give you your first yes there's no need to vote there's no need to [Applause] bre ay Dixon you touch the heart of every human being in this building right [Music] now and I want

to tell you man you've been bullied all your life but you tell every bully that you have a big brother named Terry Cruz who is here who's got your back and all those bullies are going to have to watch you succeed my [Music] friend in our we all have pain we all have [Music] so but if we are right we know that there to I got you brother Avery Dixon you are headed to the live show I got you man I got you I got you that's what it's all about that's what it's all about

beautiful your talent did this you did this I was crying and I never cried I know not a dry eye in the house I love you man I love you [Music] the way I got into music is my dad when I was a kid I would ride with him in the car and we just listen to country music together we just sang the songs together and it was just we both just loved it so much we we definitely had a connection through music and I know it was just meant a lot to him we were

so poor but he loved me so much he bought me a little guitar when I was a kid he always wanted me to play growing up and I was just too rambunctious was into sport and just didn't take the time to learn and didn't want to [Music] learn when I was 10 years old I lost my dad in a drunk driving incident it's kind of a freak accident my uh it was a real small town um my grandfather just happened to be driving in his truck coming one way on a highway and my dad and

uh my grandmother-in-law were in his van work van coming back from a job and they were about to cross each other and uh the drunk driver hit my grandfather from behind and sent him in my dad's Lane my grandfather grandmother-in-law and my dad all all lost their lives [Music] so I remember getting woken up in the middle of the night some other family were there and they said M I'm so sorry but you know your dad was killed tonight and um you know I lost it I just started screaming no and just sat there for

hours waiting to wake up the next years were definitely really challenging for me after high school I was sitting there one day and I just wanted to connect with my dad take this I decided today's the day I'm going to learn to play guitar it was the only thing he ever really ever asked me to do I felt like I was kind of making him proud started playing shows on the weekends playing for tips and paying my bills doing that this performance I'm feeling all the things you know excited nervous I'm under No Illusion that

I deserve to be here any more than a lot of other people I'm just excited to get out there and just play music time to go on out there all right all right [Music] brother hello tell us who you are your age and where you from please my name is Mitch Rosell I'm 35 I'm from east Tennessee nice to meet you Mitch all right I don't think I have to guess around too much but you're going to sing some country music for us today yes yeah I'm going to sing some country music yeah well I

for the stars above he said my world revolves around you that's what I call you [Music] son well I was going to go live with him but I guess God had other PL hands cuz on a two lane road on a Tuesday night a drunk driver cross at Center Line they said my dad didn't feel a thing well I wish I could say the same cuz losing him it left me cold I was mad at God couldn't let it go and then one blue sky morning a brown eyed baby boy was born and I I

looked outside and it started pouring I swear they were Daddy's [Music] tears my old man I could almost see him and that little face with a new heartbeating the pain in mine started leaving when I whispered in his ear son I hope you know how much I love you now it all makes sense this place in life I've come to you f the hole inside my heart you're why I reach for the stars above my world revolves around you that's what I call you s right yes man I've tried you wrote a beautiful song [Music]

there I feel like everyone in this room was feel feeling everything that you were singing and I just wish that I could to you the words and the the emotion that you sing with you know as a father also and I have three kids and the world revolves around you what a great sentiment with great beautiful words so such simple Brilliance I wrote for years and never wrote a song about it and I had a son of my own and I think that really allowed me to finally write about it and bring it full circle

you from Evie I'm from a really small town in Arizona called Florence there's like five prisons there my dad works at the prison and what go much Choice okay yeah now tell me why you decided to enter America's Got Talent this year um it's just always been my dream ever since I was little and my sorry you take your time my family um about a year ago my dad was diagnosed sorry with stage four clone cancer and um they gave him a 5% chance to live and he still continued working and uh supporting our family

of all I love your shoes so much thank you how old are you Tyler I'm 11 years old so it looks like you have the violin when did you start playing violin well I started playing the violin when I was 7even and a half and what made you get into playing violin um I wanted to start playing the violin because I was being bullied in school a oh man it's because I had cancer I almost died the doctors came in said yeah he does have cancer and [Music] um it was the worst day of my

life they used to make fun of me and laugh at me because I was different they would spread rumors to say that um my cancer was contagious and they all wanted to stay away from me one day Tyler saw flly at his school and it said after school program free violin lessons I just didn't want to be the kid with cancer so now I'm the kid who plays the violin you got this we're rooting for you [Applause] oh we yeah [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] what doesn't kill you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

to meet you my name is Kim and I'm from Eugene Oregon and I'm guessing you're singing for us yes and what are your day jobs I am a full-time mom yeah I teach high school English and I direct the High School Musical okay are you related or friends so back in 2007 my son um unfortunately passed away and he became an organ donor and his heart went to Kim Son that's incredible my son was 16 days old at the time he got the heart and we lived thousands of miles apart and had no idea who

each other was ever met and the last song I sang to Jake to say goodbye to him was for good from the musical Wicked and when Beckham was finished with his heart transplant surgery um I wasn't allowed to hold him I could just kind of stroke his head and the first thing I did when I stroked his head is I sang that song for good from Wicked wow oh my God yes and if you know myom ask so when when did you first meet several years later Kim wrote a letter to us and we kept

in touch and then we had the opportunity to meet each other for the first time and gave me a big hug and it was one of the best moments of my life and and why did you decide the two of you to come on to the show this year we would love to spread the word about organ donation and if we can change the heart of one person it's worth it I don't even know what to say I mean it's it's it's such a a sad story uh and the fact that you shared it with

us and you know I'm a dad and you know I get it and that story you just told me about this the same song that's unbelievable we were blown away when we found out it was really an amazing moment okay well now this is going to be your moment all right you ready mhm I'm ready I've heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason bringing something we must learn and we are led to those who help us most grow you'll be with me like a handprint on my heart and now whatever

course okay exactly 20 years ago our Founders Yanni and Marina zimon were cacked and to this surprise it was done by young people and then they saw this as an opportunity to change young lives and then they started at this choir wow and why did you decide to enter America's God Talent this year because America's God Talent is the biggest talent competition in the world and it has the power to inspire and give hope to the people well thank you for saying that okay we're ready we're rooting for you good luck thank you here we

y Howie now hoe last night you were brutally honest and that didn't sit well with a lot of people online how do you respond to that um I'm not responding to them you should apologize you know what the competition was brutal the and and last night we had the highest to high and then some incred for me personal disappointments and we are here and we are all paid to be honest I am brutally honest that's why it was brutal good luck to everyone but you sometimes are also grumpy I'm not grumpy yeah okay I'm translating

she said grumpy well you know what this is a good sign listen Sophia a lot of the judges you guys disagreed on a lot of the acts last night why do you think that was um well well first of all we have different taste and we all have the same taste some of them don't know what they what they what they're supposed to know uh I know everything we know how is grumpy sometimes and Simon is sometimes local so there's nothing I admit it I do admit it I like the live Show's best because we

we have no idea what's going to happen like nothing I don't even know who's the show tonight and you know we could have taped this show you know like 2 hours ago and being live makes a huge huge difference by the way I was thinking that no the million the million dollars is cool but I think winning the show is much much more important now I believe you know because I've seen what it can do to people's careers if you do well on this show in my opinion you do well in the real world that's
