Ladies and gentlemen, here is the popular and acclaimed fivetime three division world champion, the hard-hitting undefeated reigning and defending WBA lightweight champion of the world. Introducing Gervante T. Okay, gentlemen, we schedule to box 12 rounds for the WBA like spectra.
Obey my commands at all times. Most of all, protect yourself at all time. Touchdown.
Good luck. So, here is a look at Ry Romero. We'll see if he can be a man of his word.
He said he's going right after him. He said first punch Javvante Davis 26 and0 24 knockouts. And here we go.
Round one. 18,970 people on hand. A record setting crowd at Barkley Center.
Jervante Davis said, "Romero wants me to come in recklessly so he can land a left hook. " That his big power punch is the left hand. So, his left kick is what he wants to land if at all possible.
We'll see if he can. And the crowd here is up on his feet, but not because of the fight. They're distracted by something.
We can't yet tell what it is. I thought it was because they were sensing a knockout. It is the first round waiting for that.
Yeah. And Romero doesn't always use the jab as effectively as he might. Davis's prediction was we'll see what happens in round two.
Not landed any. Well, he did mention round one. Yes.
[laughter] Showed the left hand and that was Paw with it. Only 22 punch was thrown in round one. Ain't that interesting?
And we expected a war right at the get- go. A good shot by Davis and a good counter. He was whooping.
Rolando Romero didn't think I was going to get the ball, but I do. So, let's take a look for Was it I'm sure it was exactly what he said. That is what he said.
So, now I feel that he added something in his corner in that regard. We'll see if that's true. Yeah.
And you talked about the is that he's taking two steps back, making it difficult for Davis to counter with just one straight left hand. Yeah, good point. have gone is there's a healthy respect from either guy.
I think this is a power they both respect. Interesting to see Javvante Davis using the whole ring in boxing. Oh, he left hand and then left and holding on.
I don't know if that'll be a knockdown though. I definitely do think it got Davis's attention. That was a good left hand by Romero.
Wow. Romero will get a right hand that time and that blocked Davis for a moment. Well, Romero thinks he can hurt him because he's going after him now.
That really got him excited and he's going backward for the moment. I don't believe Davis is hurt. use this aggression from Romero Romero to land a nice This is not the posture you normally see that he can box Davis, but you don't normally see him moving this much.
A lot of right hand misses. There's a left hand for Davis. There's the post.
What Romero is doing in this fight is using his jab as a rangefinder very effectively. Yeah. left hand for Davis, but it was partially caught by action round.
Well, there was a moment in that round there would be a a left hand. It was actually more of a jab than a hook. How much it damage it did, I don't know, but and then that left hook, actually the second left hook landed kind of toward the back of Davis's head, which I think is what he might have been complaining to referee Field about.
Then later on in the round, Davis himself would get the left hand in. Very nice left hand. And of course, that is one of his big power punches.
He's got a good right hook also, but that's the one he wants to land against Romero. Deep drop. Let him keep working at that pace, man.
Because they get rowdy. They get really loud. So, you know, that might play with Davis head.
You know, that about the jab that Romero is using really effective combination from Romero, but nothing serious. Right hand was caught by the glove. Be the simple equation.
The left hook was caught on the gloves. Able to get that hook in. Yes, he did.
Catch from Davis. This is a highlevel power punching chess match. Awesome.
Davis, neither one of those any damage. Now Davis just fainted. And the more he does of that, and we saw it earlier, the better off he'll be getting a little ugly in there.
Well, fair to say Romero forward than just holding his own here. The um the left hand is going to come from Romero more. He's got kind of a half jab, half hook going here and and it's it's getting in occasionally to um the head of Gerant Dvonte Davis.
Later on, the right hand will come from Romero and he lunges and that allows Davis to counter with the left. And that's what Davis is very much looking to do. Counter off of his statement all day long.
All right. in this fight. Only 61 punches from Romero, 40 by Davis.
Davis normally lands. Uh that's how Davis stepped in with the left hand, but right by the as he went on through sparring, he got better and better and he not an issue in this fight. A little short barrel.
The left hand likewise That left just barely missed from David. Yes, he's been when David throws that beautiful body. She's missed it.
There's a little Yeah. [music] I know. Keep going.
[music] So, we come to round five of this fight. That left by Davis, man. He threw it with bad intentions.
Josh being quite good there. He's still using that jab really effectively, taking those step backs. Davis is leading off with the left hand and lunging a little bit, leaving himself a little over counter punch.
He might want to jab his way. And that's another thing Davis wants to do. Yeah, he's doing that.
You can you can see the focus in tank right now. Look at his eyes. They're locked in.
He's waiting for shoulder. Good body shot. And there's an elbow for me watching that.
Now he's talking. really he will accept and he's already given two warnings. So the next time that happens that certainly a different posture for Gervante Davis fighting from the outside showing lateral movement is not keeping that he has to do against a bigger Romero.
Yep. Probably shot missed. Well, he's talked about his maturity as a fighter.
We've seen that. Yeah, he seems kind of awkward. And this is another one.
[cheering] We see left hands get close. We have seen versus conserv and it was open. He did indeed.
And what he'll do here is just counter left hand as Romero came in squared up and Davis hit him. And you know Davis thought Romero would make a mistake and he would make him pay off ultimately in this fight. That's exactly what happened.
Now remember didn't eat the town but he very wobbly his legs are are not under him and Fields felt that he and I think a big part of it was his legs and he's they still aren't under him and Fields thought I can't let this fight go on. There wasn't a complaint from the Romero corner. Now here we're going to see that counter left hand again.
Right hand very low for Romero. right right in the chin, crossside. I mean, his his body, his legs were gone.
Just a perfect punch. I mean, the perfect punch. Great counter right hand.
And you know that all it's ironic that the things that Romero were doing right up to that point. He changed instantly by attacking and being uh not responsible defensively. And boom, he got hit with the straight left hand.
Then there's no question Jvante Davis when he hits you with a big shot can hurt you. And it's a wide right hand. That's the first time in this fight he really led like that with a wide right hand to the body.
And man, did he get blasted with that left hand and without those ropes, he literally would have been out of this ring. Yeah. Uh but yeah, that's that's a a highlight reel knockout any way you look at it.
Absolutely. Ladies and gentlemen, we have the time of 2 minutes 39 seconds of round number six. A referee a charge.
David Field stops the contest. He is the winner by way of technical knockout. He is still undefeated and still the WBA lightweight champion of the world.
