I I kind of alluded to this on George danko's podcast I wish I could have gone deeper on this but there is that one bigger sin in your life where if you remove that mountain a lot of things could start blossoming but how do we do it how is Jesus going to come down like an angel what is he going to do how can I get rid of this sin I'm addicted my father was addicted his father was addicted this generational curse is been on our family I'm suppressed I'm sad I'm depressed how does a
man let go of the sin what's the first action of it in Romans 7 is it's literally what you're echoing right I'm I'm struggling this thing I hate to do I do but the things I I want to do I can't do and then Romans 8 is the release of that and there's there's an identity verse break that down and Romans 78 and 12 I think lays out a masterful way of how to deal with some of these issues this is Paul writing 719 he says for I do not do the good I want to
do but the evil I do not want to do this I keep doing so Paul is writing about this state where he's doing the things that he doesn't want to do yeah and he can't do the things that he does want to do right and it's a struggle for him verse 24 what a Wretched Man I am who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death thanks be to God who delivers me through Jesus Christ Our Lord so when it comes to this conversation I want I want to lay out a framework
that I've been fleshing out and it's three Rs and I think these three Rs can be groundbreaking for anyone that's stuck in the pattern of sin and add addiction and the practice of these things the first aspect of it that I think Romans 7 lays out for us is that we have to reveal these things that's the first AR Paul is oddly enough vulnerable in his writing that we can we can glean the vulnerability thousands of years later he's talking about praying for the thorn of the flesh to go away that doesn't go away God
leaves it he's talking about this things he doesn't want to do but he keeps on doing there's times where he's name-checking people there's times where he's he's saying man like some of you guys are bugging I'm glad I didn't baptize a bunch of you I only baptized these people as far as I remember like he's just there's a vulnerability that he has there and so I think the the demonstration here even though he's not overtly saying this James says this I confess your sins to one another demonstration here and and this is the first R
is that we have to be willing to reveal where we are we have to be willing to reveal our sin reveal our struggle God cannot heal what you keep hidden come on God cannot heal the things that you keep hidden this is why local church is important this is why confession is important we have to be willing to reveal the things that we're dealing with the things that we're struggling with and I think Paul does that and demonstrates this here and I think that this is something that is a wonderful utility and i' I said
this on the George jenko podcast I think the Catholics and Orthodox kind of got us beat on this with their practice of confession as a Sacrament and I think we need to do a better job of this that's true because there's so much so much fakery so much uh uh putting on a mask within certain Church streams right now add balance to this it doesn't mean trauma dumping that means finding safe people that you have relationship with that are in your life to help keep you accountable and you walking up to random people and bleeding
all over them yeah right but we do need to find that that that that vulnerability and that ability to reveal uh the things publicly to confess the things the sins that we have or the times we've been sinned against once we reveal we walk into our identity which which is very interesting because he says thanks be to God who delivers me through Christ Jesus so then I myself in my mind I'm a slave to God's law but in my sinful nature a slave to the the law of sin so now there's a there's an identity
shift you in your mind you become a slave to God's law and then and then the release of Romans 7 is right here in the beginning of Romans 8 he says therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus if you're in Christ Jesus you're no longer condemned if you're in Christ Jesus you're no longer a slave to sin if you're in Christ Jesus You're Now a slave to God's way of doing things you're now a slave and your and your new creature right because through Christ Jesus the law of the
spirit who gives life has set you free free from the law of sin and death this is an identity shift and we're going from revealing and and and and revealing the vulnerability and also revealing our identity that we have a sinful nature but now in Christ we're made new right so I think confession is also public professions of good things it's not just like we just confess bad things we also have to confess the new things the new identity we have right so we we reveal who we are we reveal our our struggles of vulnerabilities
but we also have to be willing to reveal that there is no condemnation that I am a new creature that I am no longer just a sinner who has to stay stuck in this pattern so the first R is reveal we have to reveal these things now the second R we have to be willing to remove sin we reveal sin we reveal our new identity then we have to go on to removing sin Romans 813 it says for if you live according to the flesh you will die but if by the spirit you put to
death the misdeeds of the body you will live kill sin or your sin will kill you put to death your sin remove your sin Purge those things out just like you have a garden that that is you're trying to hopefully see a production of fruit and a production of plants and a production of something that can help you remain in in the Lord you have to go in and remove those weeds right we have to go and remove the chaff we have to separate the wheat from the chaff we have to go and remove and
make sure that there aren't a bunch of little go everywhere and there's not a you know Song of Solomon talks about it's the little foxes that destroy a garden so you have to go in and you have to wage war on your sin Jesus is very in is in a hyperbolic a hyperbolic statement if your if your arm causes you to sin chop it off if your eye causes you to sin pluck it out he's not literally saying to chop off your arm and plug out your eye but he is saying you need to wage
war on these things if there are things in your life that are causing you to get stuck struggle wage war remove those things so I think most Christians know reveal confess remove wage war on I think most of us know this right I think the part where we get hung up on is the last R and the last R can be easy on a superficial level but is actually deeper than you think it is and this is the last stars in Romans 12 I have a massive update for you I'm sure by this point you've

to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is his good pleasing and perfect will the last R is the renewal process is to renew your mind by practicing the law of replacement okay so you can reveal you can remove and wage war but if you're not replacing that with something better and you're not renewing your mind you're just going to stay stuck you're going to stay stuck and you're going to stay addicted now here's the here's the
here's the interesting part I think church people and we we talk about deliverance and when we talk about uh therapy and we talk about confession I think church people get the two the first two hours reveal confess uh repent right and then go into remove your sin wager war on your sin when I was younger they used to like burn all your secular cities or break all your secular cities people will take a pile of your secular right that was the thing I think understand that part and I even think that we understand the part
of renewing your mind but what I think we get caught up on is the law of replacement only gets extended to spiritual matters this is what I mean the spiritual matters of like I got to read my Bible I got to pray I got to go to church I probably should get in a small group and serve those are all great spiritual virtues that we need to apply and those generally will do the the heavy lifting of renewing your mind and renewing your spirit and walking in that newness right yeah but I think what people
forget is that this isn't just talking about in the spiritual realm therefore I urge you brothers and sisters in view of God's mercy to offer your bodies that it's something that's done in the spiritual as well as in the physical and the material come on that it can't just be spiritual practice that there has to be a physical shift as well there has to be something that changes in our physical bodies this is what I mean if you think about the story of the of the of the Incarnation right Christmas Story every likes the Christmas
story it's like I like the presents I like the gifts I like the music I like the I like the lights well the Christmas story is the god of the universe the infinite God that's outside of space and time stepping into a physical material world and engaging with his creation coming on a rescue mission to redeem us to restore us that is a physical act it's not something that's just in the spiritual it's it's in the physical world and in the same way I think in our pursuit of consecration in our pursuit of freedom and
our pursuit of being new new creatures putting on the new man that it can't just be pH uh spiritual platitudes it can't just be I'm going to read my Bible and I'm going to go to church like yes and amen to that I think there has to be physical Transformations that happen meaning I think it has to impact our physical and material world as well and this is what I mean this is going to sound crazy we take for granted that when these folks lived and when this stuff was being written a lot of them
were living very different lives than we're living today how many of us don't touch grass how many of us don't see sunlight how many of us don't move we're sitting down all day at our jobs so you have people who are writing this and they're living a totally different lifestyle than we're living and they're out they're walking I mean listen to do 10,000 steps a day for many of us is like a huge feet yeah they were rocking everywhere they were Outdoors they were working with their hands they were moving their bodies and I think
one of the unlocks and I'm not I'm not making this as like a a secret or something like that I think one of the Common Sense unlocks is that you can go to church three four times a week MH you can read your Bible every day you can confess your sins you can remove your sins you can do but if you're not doing something to replace that in the Physical Realm as well as the spiritual realm that is a recipe for staying stuck come on that is a recipe for remaining all spirit and no physical
reality and the thing about the Christian Story That's Unique is that it's and both that it's physical and spiritual that it's that it's God stepping into a physical reality and we are then experiencing a physical and a a spiritual transformation that happens to us and so if you are consistently dealing with a pattern of sin and you don't know why have you considered that there perhaps are things in a natural in in Physical Realm that need adjustments to help you alleviate some of that burden and I think so many of us are indoors without sunlight
not moving not getting not getting fresh air not touching grass and we wonder why we're so anxious hello why can't God just take away the anxiety why can't God just take away the depression why can't God just take away I just I just need to cope I need to keep coping and I need to soothe myself with food I need to sooth myself with porn I need to soothe myself with these things and have you thought that perhaps that those aren't necessarily spiritual issues you're dealing with that they're physical issues and you're neglecting your physical
reality and Roman says to offer your bodies your physical bodies as a Living Sacrifice holy and pleasing to God this is your true and proper worship and check it out do not conform to the pattern of this world we should be different yeah we should be different Our Lives should look different our disciplines should look different how we navigate our homes how we navigate our physical bodies how we navigate our marriages how we navigate our thought life it's all inclusive it's it's it's multiple uh uh it's in both and I think what happens is people
people will go through all these processes they they'll reveal they'll repent they'll remove they'll even replace and start going to church but they they won't deal with stuff in the in the Physical Realm and for me this was the unlock for me I was doing all the things and I knew the scriptures and I was going to church all these things but it wasn't until I started dealing with my mental health and my physical health that the the burden was lightened and the freedom came that there was there was an unlock when I oddly enough
started dealing with my mental health by going to therapy and started going to bed earlier and waking up earlier and going to the gym and eating better and transforming my physical body that all of a sudden there was a lift of in my spiritual body and I I I really believe that this is a potential unlock for many people because I think we compartmentalize and we think that the physical doesn't affect the spiritual and the spiritual doesn't affect the physical and your mental health and your physical and it's all interconnected friends so offer your bodies
is a Living Sacrifice that your body is a temple of God that your body isn't just a bag of flesh that it's the Temple of the Living God living inside of you if you were to walk into a a beautiful cathedral how would you treat the cathedral would you just throw pain on the walls and leave a bunch of trash out and and and I will leave you with this I think to make it come to life there's a future version of you who is depending on the current version of you to make better decisions
so that they don't have to pay for your bad choices the choices you're making now will affect the version of you from a decade in the future people like to think about time travel and Sci-Fi movies and all that kind of stuff here's a real version of time travel that version of you 10 years from now 20 years from now what would they say to you about your decisions now what would they say to you about your sedentary lifestyle what would they say to you about not getting enough sleep what would they say to you
about not being in a community what would they say to you about not developing yourself so that you don't you you you you make advancements incrementally in the other areas of your life what would they say to you I have a feeling that they would say maybe a little bit less Netflix maybe a little bit less passive consumption maybe a little less calories maybe a little bit more movement maybe a little bit more deep think and and and and learning stuff and trying to improve the skill set you have so you could be a bigger
asset to your employer so you could hopefully increase your earning potential so that you could potentially give your future wife the opportunity to stay home when you have kids save for taxes save for taxes right I think we compartmentalize these things we don't understand how important they really are come on you know and so everyone's living in the now ignoring that it's a future you it's a future you that's depending on you to make better decisions hey thank you so much for checking out the video please be sure to comment below and subscribe and all
