when you're learning a language as a beginner one of the hardest transitions is getting from the basic collection of words and verbs and nouns that you know to getting to a point of formulating full sentences and being able to speak and i found something that really helps me is to practice my writing a lot today we're not talking about speaking so much but i'm gonna take you through exactly how i write as a beginner in a new language what are all the steps i take when i don't know all the things and what happens when
i encounter difficult grammar structures or don't know how to spell something or just don't know a word so let me take you through the steps i take starting from a blank page not using a dictionary knowing nothing practicing writing and then how i uh get corrections until i have a finished piece of writing that i feel happy with you can use this for any language but for purposes of this video i will be showing you something i wrote in hungarian recently here's a page of a few sentences i recently wrote in hungarian this whole process
took about one hour the very first thing i do is to write without prompts or a dictionary and you'll see that in some parts there are still english words this means that i didn't know or remember pun intended the words in hungarian now the reason i don't look them up now is because i want some kind of a visual record to see which words i missed at a point in time so i just want to test myself without using a dictionary without looking up sentences on google translate i want to see how many words and
sentences can i produce out of nothing so generally i just think of a topic first um this time i wrote about a movie i really enjoy watching movies and writing about so the second thing i do is then underline these words that i don't know in english for example sleep there or car or remember i underline these and then the very next thing i do is use a trusted dictionary and look up the words that i didn't know and then i'll write them in in english so for example i didn't know awards and that is
d yokot and i just filled it in in pink at the top it's a little harder to see but i'll use this kind of yellow color pen to circle words that are very important to know but that i forgot for example the word remember is something i'll use in daily life but i keep forgetting this word so i've just circled the word after that i use this yellow highlighter to highlight imported nouns and then for cases or grammar structures i'll use this pink pen to circle them now they might be wrong in my writing that's
exactly why i circle them so that i can look them up later and check that they are correct these are connected to nouns in hungarian and i want to be sure i'm using them correctly after that i take the verbs that are highlighted in yellow and i look them up on culture gator which is a really wonderful conjugation website and then i will make a list for myself of all the verbs that are in my piece of writing now i don't want to memorize a ton of verbs at the same time so whenever i need
them whenever these verbs pop up i will then conjugate them now for hungarian specifically you get indefinite and definite conjugations that is just the worst it's really tedious and tricky so i'll be sure to write all of the tenses that i need here and then for the example here i'm writing about someone so it's in third person so these underlines in orange is for the third person conjugation of the verb the verbs here are like mondhani to speak men need to go dalal gosni which is to meet right after that i will then kind of
go over and fix the verb conjugations as a quick reference all of the verbs that i highlighted in yellow i just write them here and if there is an important example sentence i got from the website conjugator i'll just put it here as an example to help me remember it all of the nouns that i didn't know like the word for desert or car i will then write it in here usually i don't need to write the definition in english again it's just easy for me after i've looked it up and i know what i
wrote about i just put them in here and i can immediately tell you what these nouns mean i then look at the website i think it's called hungarian grammar reference and then i will check to see if all of these cases are correct then i think it's time to clean up this page after looking at all the conjugations and learning my new words so then the next thing i do is to rewrite it sometimes when i rewrite it i will notice mistakes i made earlier this should be a much better version than the first draft
that i had and then the very last thing that i do is i type it up i usually type it on my phone because it's easier to type the accent in hungarian and then i will post it on a website like journally or an app like high native or hellotalk to get corrections from native speakers so this is still pending you might notice a few mistakes in here if you are hungarian but don't worry i am still waiting for corrections online and i will add it to here edit my writing one more time and then
hopefully i have something that makes absolute sense which i can then use to practice my speaking with and practice my pronunciation so that is how i practice my writing in hungarian well that's it for today's video thank you guys so much for watching i hope it was helpful and let me know in the comments how you practice your writing skills if there's anything else you would like me to make a video on please leave it in the comments and as usual have a wonderful week ahead and i'll see you in the next video bye
