in this video I'm going to be showing you how I would create a Pinterest account from scratch everything from a to z i find as I talk with a lot of people who are wanting to get started on Pinterest they always wonder how would you go about starting it or they really are excited about the possibility with Pinterest but they don't know where to begin so I'm hopeful that this video can act as a guide for anybody who is looking to get started or anybody who has already gotten started and looking for tips to improve
their account and specifically I'm going to be covering these five steps now in my opinion these five steps are like the foundation that everybody should understand in order to be successful on Pinterest we're going to learn how to actually create your account how to optimize your profile your keyword research which is a huge part of being successful on Pinterest and then how to use boards and also best practices for Pins now before we jump into the video I do have to mention that this video is actually sponsored by Pinterest which I am super excited about

to be a great resource for you now before we jump in on how to use Pinterest I think it is important to understand why people do use Pinterest why myself and I think 550 million some odd other people also use Pinterest the reason why I really like it is because of this little graph right here Pinterest is a great kind of middle ground to people who are looking to search but also for social media and also looking for it to buy specific Goods so Pinterest is not only a social media platform but it is also
a search engine and not only a search engine but a visual search engine and I think a lot of people underestimate the power of that when you're actually searching for something cuz for an example if I come over here and let me just give you a quick example so if I'm coming over here and I'm just looking for say healthy food if I went onto another search engine I would just you know see a bunch of links or things that look like you know healthy food but when I come over here to Pinterest I see
not only the recipes here but I can see what the food actually looks like cuz if I'm going to begin to start cooking something I don't care about like just reading the recipe and thinking oh yeah that might be good I like to look and see oh this thing really looks like it's going to be good to go through and make and then on top of that they have these filters here where I can go through and I can narrow down even more what I'm going to be looking for like say if I did want
healthy food maybe I wanted inspiration maybe I wanted menus maybe I wanted recipes I can go or maybe I wanted something super easy I can click into these filters I can find recipes that are super easy to make and so that's just one example of how powerful the search engine the visual search engine of Pinterest can be and not to mention another thing that I love about Pinterest and creating content on Pinterest is that the content tends to last a lot longer than other social media platforms with other platforms you know maybe the shelf life
is 24 to 48 hours but with Pinterest if you create high quality content it has the chance to rank in the platform for many many days months whatever it may be and so you're not having to constantly create new post every 24 to 48 hours although of course you can create more and more posts as you'd like to but I like to know that when I create something it has the opportunity to last for a long time as opposed to just 24 to 48 hours so now let's actually get into the good stuff and start
creating our account now for this this account that we're going to be creating we are going to be creating an account for men's fashion that's particularly what we're going to be going for so in order to do that basically go to Pinterest you can do this on the app or on desktop here I'm going to do that on the desktop to give you an easier view here but we're going to come over here and we're just going to sign up first thing it's going to ask you for your birthday just to keep Pinterest safe I
think this is great so I'm going to go through and added my birthday here real quick then once you sign up Pinterest is going to ask you some questions to kind of customize your feed to your liking so I'm going to go through and answer some of these questions here real quickly and then it's going to ask some of the interest and like I said this is mainly to show you what you may be interested now as I mentioned we're going to be creating an account for men's fashion so I'm going to click into that
Jordans is another thing men's style is good I'm just going to look through some of these and click three to four of them okay so I have men's fashion Jordans and then also men's business outfits now it's important to note that what you choose here is not going to affect the performance of your Pinterest account as you start posting pins this is basically telling Pinterest here's what I like show me some stuff related to these things as I'm scrolling through Pinterest so if you don't find something that you're interested in right here then you can
hold off for the time or you don't need to like fill the analysis paralysis basically when you're clicking on these just pick one or more and then hit continue here or I guess you got to pick four so we got to pick one more here I also do like Pokémon so I'm going to put Pokemon here we hit meet our home feed okay and once you create your account it's going to drop you into a view that looks something like this this is your home feed and as you can see here Pinterest is now showing
me a bunch of men's fashion pins inside of here inside of here I can go and I can click I can interact with these pins I can click on an individual one whatever it is here you can see there's lots of things that you can do and I can even save them which we're going to get into that in just a minute but you can save those exact pins you can also go through and you can do a specific search as I mentioned say that I wanted to look at Men's hats specifically we can come
here and put men's hats and then it's going to serve me a bunch of hats men's fashion here now of course this is just the things that I'm going to be discovering and looking at what we want to talk about is how to optimize our profile here so from here what we're going to do is we're actually going to come over to this right hand side and we're going to click on this little button right here that says your profile once we get here you can see we have our profile which is looking pretty Bare
Bones right now so we want to go through and create this profile so it looks nice so that when people find our profile they want to follow it or engage with it or engage with our pins and you can see right here we have this little button to start creating boards we're going to get to there first I want to talk about step number two and that's optimizing our profile I think it's important to get your profile set up before you start creating those boards so what we're going to do here is we're going to
click on this top little button that says view profile and then here we can actually edit the profile okay and inside of this first tab you have your profile photo that you'll want to go through and change I'm going to go through and update that in here in a minute and then you have an about section inside of this about section I recommend keeping it pretty concise and if somebody was to go through and visit your profile they know what your profile is about and what you're doing I would recommend putting some of the keywords
that you're going to want to Target inside of there but don't over stuff those keywords in there then you can go through and add your pronouns you have your website here that you want to go through and add and then finally you can change your username here username it gives you automatically will be based on your email so you want to change that as well so I'm going to go through and optimize this real quick and we'll be back just in a second so once you have all those in place then you can hit save
down here I already saved that and then you can come over and I want to look at the account management here now inside of account management there's a very important setting that I want everybody to make sure that you're aware of and that is to convert to a business account now whether you are a creator of business or anything in between I recommend that every everybody be on a business account there's no downside virtually to it but you can see with a business account you'll have access to tools like ads and then the analytics which
is the more important part if you're not running ads is not a big deal but the analytics is huge for when you are trying to look at what's working on Pinterest and grow your Pinterest s so if your says convert to a business account I'd recommend converting it if it says convert to a personal account that means you're already on a business account we're going to hit convert to account here and you can see here as I mentioned it gives you all the benefits of a business account specifically the insights and analytics is what we're
going to be going for this doesn't cost you any money or anything like that so don't feel like you're like paying or getting up charged here but we're going to hit upgrade every Pinterest account that I have is a business account so hopefully that's helpful if if you're looking at whether to do one or the other definitely do a business account it's then going to ask what kind of our business is I'm going to put content creator because that's what I'm going to be doing here you can do whatever one is applicable to you and
then it'll ask for the business name if you don't have a business name don't worry you can just do whatever your creator handle is here so that's what I'm going to be doing and then if you don't have a website you can put I don't have a website here or add your website if you do have one so we're going to hit next and then it will ask what our three business goals are you can choose whatever one of these resonates with you I want to drive traffic to my site and then what we focus
on and then if your Niche isn't in here you can just put other but for me I am doing fashion so we're going to do that there and then hit done now if you wanted to you can click one of these on where you would like to start and it's going to kind of walk you through some modules here I'm personally just going to hit exit here so I can go right back to my account and then here is where you can see the analytics as I'm mentioning that it's going to start showing you so
now as you can see here we are in the business Hub and when you click on here you can see you have so many more options when it comes to your Pinterest account where as if you just had a normal account you wouldn't have access to namely the Pinterest trends tool the analytics the audience insights and then even to run ads if you want to do that but most of the time this is what people care about in this analytics here and I'm going to be creating a full tutorial based on Pinterest analytics here soon
you can see there's a lot of data that is going to be showing up here as you start to post in your Pinterest account right now of course nothing is in here because this is a brand new account but something that I did want to highlight as a huge benefit of a business account so now just some other quick tips when it comes to optimizing your profile if you click back up here in the top right and then you come over to edit your profile again we're going to look at the profile visibility here here
you do want to make sure that both of these are basically off like you want to keep them at the default setting like they're on or off or whatever this is basically when your profile is private you don't want this to be private so you want this to be off and then search privacy hide your profile from boards and search engines such as Google you want to make sure that both of these are off because if you have these on the chance of you getting discovered on Pinterest is going to be lower and lower so
make sure both of those are turned off here and then next the claimed accounts I would recommend going through and claiming your Instagram account your website and then a Shopify store if you do have it here as well this is going to give you lots of benefits that I'm not going to go into too much here but just know that it's important to go through and connect those accounts so now we've gone through and talked about creating our account and then optimizing our profile the next step is to talk about keyword research which as I
mention is a big part of success on Pinterest before I do jump into that though I do want to mention I do actually have this Pinterest account audit little thing if you're like me and like to just check boxes to make sure that everything else is all done so everything that we talked about is kind of like here that you can go through and check those out and then some of the things we're going talking about as well with boards and pins so if you want to get that copy this down below if you want
to check that out in the description but let's talk about keyword research so when it comes to keyword research there's lots of different things that you can do but one of the most common things that I honestly like to do is to come over here and to actually just search for something specific or to look for the ideas that Pinterest gives me so you can see here men's business outfit men's style Jordan men's and then I have the Pokemon like the ideas for me and then popular on Pinterest right now here's are some of the
popular things this is kind of like General Pinterest so it's not going to be as helpful but for men's style for instance what I'll do here is I'll take that main keyword I know that I want to talk about men's style so but I want to get more ideas for men's style so I like to type this in men style and you can see here it's going to start giving me keywords that people are searching in Pinterest so you can bet right if it's showing up in here that means that a lot of people are
searching for so men style you see men style tips men style outfits men style casual men style 2025 men's winter men's summer men's aesthetic men's tips clothing now these are all things that I'm going to start taking note of what I like to do is create a new spreadsheet here and then once I have a spreadsheet so men style tips for instance I'll just come over here and then I'll do my keyword ideas and then I'll do men style tips and I will do this process it may sound tedious it may take a minute but
I will go through and I will do men's style and then I will add an a here and see everything that pops up after a so men style tips aesthetic here and then I'll take all of those keywords note them down and then I'll do the same thing here I'll do B and then men style black blue jeans baggie brown pants I'll do all of these different tips here and I'll go through the entire alphabet A to Z to figure out which things people are actually searching for inside of Pinterest I found that this is
one of the most reliable ways to do keyword research there's other more advanced things that you can do are like PID tools and things like that I'll be creating a full dedicated video just on Pinterest keyword research here soon uh so be sure to subscribe if you're interested in that but right now if you're just getting started this is what I recommend recommend doing so that you can get an idea on at least five boards that you're wanting to create if you don't know what a board is don't worry I'm we talking about it here
in just a minute but basically we wanted to get five different groups or ideas of things that we want to create content for okay and I wanted to show you a quick example of how I kind of organize these when I'm first getting started so what I like to do is organize the kind of bigger themes into board ideas you see I just like to put them in the here and then I put all the keywords that I can find for that particular board idea into the keywords here so you can see men style these
are all men style tips men style outfits men style casual men Style 5 install summer this is going to help you when you're planning out your content to understand what keywords you're wanting to Target now you can see here I have what five keywords inside of here I would not recommend stopping at 5 I would try to get as many keywords as possible because the more work you do in the beginning the easier it is for you to create content going forward and so I would recommend going through and filling out the sheet and getting
at least five board ideas that will allow you to create at least you know around 5 to 10 pins or to pin repin other people's content so now I wanted to jump over to boards now if you aren't familiar with Pinterest to this point you may be wondering like what the heck is a board or what does that look like now so I want to talk about how to actually create and use boards so now when it comes to setting up your Pinterest account boards are critical and so are pins when you go to pin
something or post something on Pinterest it needs to live inside of a board and the way that I like to look at boards is basically you're just taking a collection or a group of ideas and putting them all together it's grouping ideas and putting them together so when it comes to boards let's take this example of a workout account here that I have you basically want to come up with themes that relate to that specific Niche so for a Pinter account about working out we could do a board for Women's Health we could do one
for men's workout routines we could do one for couples's workouts and then we could do one for ab exercises and then I generally recommend that when you're creating a boards for your Niche that you have one that's like Fitness one that is basically a board that anything that you create in that Niche you could put into that board as I mentioned for Fitness that could be one of the examples for the boards for my DIY account I have this one called DIY house projects that if I am creating something I can always put it into
that board first if I want to and then I could put the more Niche stuff inside of there so one board that is kind of like a very generic board that's related to your Niche and then I would create at least four more that are a little bit more Niche related to your specific topic so you can see in our case men's style is kind of going to be our more generic topic here and then we get a little bit more Niche here with men's pants men's outfit ideas men's workouts and then men's suits so
we've now done the work and we know what kind of boards we're wanting to create so we're going to come back over here and now I'm going to show you how to actually create those boards so in order to do that you want to come over to your profile here and then from here you want to click on this little plus button sorry wrong plus button this is actually to add a cover image which I would recommend you doing for your profile that's something that we didn't touch on so yeah add a profile picture here
but over here there's this little plus button that allows you to create a board now you can do this on mobile as well like I said a lot of times when I am creating content on Pinterest though I do have to say I am using on desktop that's just my personal preference but totally up to you you can click board here and then this is where we're going to create our board now you're going to see it's going to ask for a name we're going to call this the exact keyword that we're wanting to Target
here men's style and then we don't want this to be a secret board now what a secret board is is basically a board that is not shown up on your profile if you are just creating something and you want it to be not seen by your followers you can create a secret board or maybe it's incomplete then you could do that but I'm going to show you how to really quickly get a board that has a lot of content in it and then also to how to use your content inside of that board so you
can add collaborators here if you wanted to add people if you're just getting start off on Pinterest I would probably recommend just starting off with a board that's just for you so we're going to hit create here and then I love this right here I think this is something that a lot of people underestimate or underuse once you create that board based on the keyword that you give Pinterest it's going to give you a lot of different ideas on men's style so what I would recommend here is and this is something that's different maybe compared
to other social media platforms is I would try to fill that board up with at least 15 to 20 pins whether they're your pins or you're repinning other people's content I think there's a lot of power in actually sharing other people's content to be clear you're not like taking their pin and claiming it as your own you're repinning it so it's showing up in your board so when people click on that it's showing their profile and things like that but it gives your board more clout and more Authority I think when you utilize this so
very quickly you could go through and scroll through the pictures that it's giving you and say that I really like this one you can see that saves it to this board so I can go through and as I mentioned I would recommend scrolling through this and getting at least 12 to 15 pins that you can repin inside of here now if it's showing you stuff that you don't like don't worry you can later go back and add in things inside of here so we're just saving some of these that we like so let's say that
we went through and found 15 then we can hit done here and you can see these are going to show up inside of our board with our our men's style right here and as I mentioned if you wanted to find more content then you could hit more ideas here and you could search for specific things or you could actually just come back over to Pinterest you can come over to your home feed and you can actually do a specific search for more men's fashion and then from there let's say that I found something that I
liked let's say that I really like this bag right here then I can click I can drop down and then here's my men's style board that I can save that to then when I come back over here to my profile and I'm looking at the Save stuff you can see I now have all pins board here and then I have my men's style and there is the thing that I just saved now another powerful thing that I think a lot of people Overlook as well and and kind of something that I use a ton is
this organized feature here so here in just a minute I'll show you how to actually create pins but what you can do with this is you can actually rearrange the order of your boards so what I like to do is I like to get a lot of people's content inside of here and then I like to move my pins let's say this is my pin I like to move it either to the first second and then I'll kind of sprinkle my pins up here at the top inside of the board let me show you an
example of kind of what I mean there so for example here is one of my accent walls in the living room and you can see when you look at this this right here is my pin this is my pin this is my pin this is somebody else's pin but you can see kind of up at the top I've sprinkled my pins over here at the top so if I wanted to organize this then I could come back over here and I could move pins or reorder the selection if I wanted to do that but this
is one of the ways that I get my content on the top when I'm creating those boards now a couple other things to mention about the boards is you're going to want to click on these three little dots right here as well and make sure that you click edit board from here you can actually add a board cover so you can click the you can change you can grab some of the images from your board or your specific pins here and add a board cover then on top of that you can come over here to
and rename it and then also give this a description so I recommend putting a description in here that relates to men's style something that's like a sentence but not too long or not keyword stuffed basically so I just gave that a pretty generic description there and then we're going to hit done and then now our board is pretty much done the last thing for us to do is to actually create our own pins and put them inside of this board and then of course you're going to repeat this process for as many boards as you're
wanting to do I recommend creating at least five boards to begin with and then creating more of course from there but that's just my recommendation you can do whatever you'd like I just find the best results starting with five boards so now we are on to the last step and that is actually creating our own pins here in order to do that we're going to click on this little plus button here like I said on mobile it's going to be a little bit different but we're going to actually start creating our pin okay and the
first thing we're going to do is drag or drop our file or video in here I'm actually going to be using a video here of me modeling some sweats if you can't tell I'm not really a men's style influencer maybe a wannabe one but not a very good one here so I have me wearing some sweats here kind of modeling them out but yeah just a very basic video here and then here on the title this is where you want to come back and think about your keyword so before we jump into that I want
to show you this little slide here text overlays is always good to add into your videos and images cuz the text overlays can help provide context for your specific keywords make sure you're adding your keywords inside the actual title and the description here and then finally making sure you are placing it in the correct board and then last making sure you're adding some tags to them as well so if we scroll back over here we have our title and this I'm going to do men's style sweatpants we'll just call it that men's style sweatpants for
our keyword CU we want to show up if someone's looking for some nice pair of sweatpants here and then in the description you want to do the same kind of add a little bit of a description that makes sense but also has those keywords inside of it okay so I just went through and put in description here and then this is where you can add your link so this is a a very powerful point of Pinterest this is where you could go through and add a website you could link it back to a product you
could do all sorts of things here for this now I don't have a like I don't actually have these sweatpants here so I'm just going to link this back to my website and then here we want to make sure it's going into the right board so if we had multiple boards we could put them into any one of those we're going to do the men style here and then search for specific topics so these are the specific tags that I was talking about so here we want to put in like men's style and see what
pops up so you see men's street style men's Urban style those would make sense here now I've noticed with these tags that there are a lot of them that aren't available yet so if you don't find tags in here don't worry about it just type in whatever you think is going to be the most even if I just put sweatpants here let's see what comes up yeah so we have sweatpants so that's great just add as many of the tags that you can find relevant inside of here sometimes I add one sometimes I add five
sometimes I add four you know it just kind of depends on how many are available so add as many as you can here and then here's where you can add a specific product if you wanted to you can publish this later and then more options make sure you always have allow people to comment and then show similar products as well I think those are good features to show up to make sure that you're showing up as much as possible then once you have that done here you can actually edit this video so as I mentioned
adding text overlay is sometimes helpful for a video so in order to do that you can click on this little edit icon and then here you can add text overlay so like men's sweats you know like this is kind of put together example here but you can see you can change things out so that Pinterest can read the text there you can change the font if you wanted to I personally like the super glue here and then the font size the alignment the color and the the highlights now there are lots of different video editors
that you can use of course to upload your videos before you even get them inside of here so feel free to use those as well but this is just like an example of something that you could do for that then finally once you're happy with the actual pin it can either be a video or an image keep that in mind I'm doing a video here but it doesn't have to be I can choose a cover photo from the video itself it'll take a second for this to load up you see I can like pick a
specific one from here even though these all look just about the same but say I wanted to do that right there and then from here I can hit publish and that is now published it's going to drop me back in here in case I want wanted to make more pins but I want to go and show you what that looks like then on our profile so we have saved here which shows all of our boards currently and then if we come over here to create then here is our pin that is showing our men's style
fashion kind of thing coming through and if we look at the saved inside of here ours is showing up at the top so if you pin it it's going to automatically put it towards the top here which is nice and now you are ready to go so now you have your Pinterest account all created you have your profile optimized you now hopefully have five or so boards created with pins inside of them you may be asking yourself now what is kind of the best practices when I'm am creating those pins and how do I optimize
them even further well if you wanted to get in into more depth on that then I recommend checking out this video right here and we'll see you in that one
