the Quran doesn't talk about these things in small ways Allah is basically teaching us how the world changes when you and I become people of Justice in our personal life in our family life then we have some ground to stand on on which we can say now we want Justice in our society then we could talk about bigger components of justice and that's so funny right so interesting that you have people that are unjust to their families and all day discussing politics and the Injustice in the world [Music] [Applause] alhamdulillah alhamdulillah Al [Music] s [Music]
Allah says about this book the Quran a book whose aat the verses the revelations have been stitched together the word is used in old Arabic for weaving when you put a blanket together or cloth together and you put the strings woven into each other so they don't come apart and the tighter they are the more they have is also used for when you tie something together very tightly even in modern Arabic when you put a seat belt on it's you know this this is or so this this word is used when something is connected very
tightly together Allah uses that to describe the nature of the Quran that Allah has put the ayat of the Quran stitched with each other so the order of the ayat and how the ayat connect with each other is a design from Allah himself subhanahu wa tala I wanted that to be the first comment I make in this because actually the I want to share with you is about one Ayah but before I get to that Ayah I want to help myself and you understand what is it that this Ayah what aat is it stitched with
what are what other ayat are tied to the Ayah that I want to share with you the Ayah before opens with people who make fun of the Quran Allah says that Allah is not ashamed to give the example even of a fly and those who believe whenever Allah gives an example they know Allah has a reason to give an example they will contemplate think about with humility they will think about the example Allah gave and try to learn the lesson from the example but people that have kuur disbelief ingratitude in their heart they will say
they'll say what does Allah mean by this as an example what kind of example is this they'll be condescending critical mocking of the word of Allah then Allah says the same book Allah will use it to misguide many people that come with the wrong attitude will be misguided and Allah will guide many people with the same book the same example that makes someone make fun of it will be the same example somebody will become Muslim because of it but then he says and who are the kinds of people that will become misguided by this book
they don't deserve the guidance of Allah from this book Allah says about them these are Allah will not allow anybody to be misguided through this book except those that are F so for a moment I want you to think about the word f before I go further so this is this is not the Ayah I want to talk to you about this is the Ayah before yeah but let's focus on the word for a second there are two words in Arabic that are closely related to each other there's faad with a the end and or
with a at the end so and food like an apple if it goes bad on the inside it still looks good on the outside looks good on the outside that's facid it's facid you won't know that it's bad until you cut it open and you find that it's there's worms inside or something there's a problem and that's faid f is when you can already tell the food has gone bad from the outside meaning the corruption inside was so bad that it came out so when someone is a facd they have corruption inside them and maybe
you don't even see it you don't see the corruption that's a facet but when someone is a f then they have a corruption inside but it's so strong that it's already starting to come out think of it like this is why they use the word in Arabic they used to use food that is FID and food that is food that's FID it's bad but you can't tell until it's too late until you took a bite food that is FAS you're not even going to go near the smell will already get you the look will already
get you the insects the worms whatever you can tell I'm not going to go near that okay Allah is saying in this Ayah the people Allah will misguide are so corrupt you can even see their corruption cuz he didn't say Al he said that's the word he used but in this ay that I want to talk to you about today Allah is going to define the who are these people that are so corrupt that they don't even deserve the Revel the the guidance from Allah's Revelation but again I'll skip it I'll skip the Ayah I
want to talk to you about I'll go to the Ayah after then come back because I want you to understand what is it Stitch to yeah what's what's woven it what's what's it woven inside Allah says in the Ayah after he says the Ayah begins how can you disbelieve in Allah and you were dead and Allah gave you life so the Ayah before was talking about people who make fun of the Quran make fun of its examples those who have kufur in their heart and they will they don't deserve guidance because they have the Ayah
after is saying how could you do in Allah but the Ayah in the middle which is the subject today is the definition of the F who are these people how do you define a this is a multiple part definition so I want you to keep this list in your head the first part of this definition is those who break the promise made with Allah After the Promise was binding Allah already made a promise they made a promise with Allah they made an agreement with Allah and they broke that agreement that's the first part of the
definition I won't go into too much detail but some things you should know about that before we even came to this earth before the angel even delivered me and you into the belly of our mothers we already made a promise with Allah that was already made it was already taken from you am I not your and all of us already said before we came to this earth we we testify we already agreed so there's something inside our nature that's already made an agreement with Allah the r has already already made an agreement with Allah these
the first thing Allah is saying is these people break that agreement that was already deep inside them meaning they deny their own Humanity in simple language because if you truly accept your Humanity your F you will find Allah these people are so inherently corrupt that they have no human decency left inside them you know so it also means the second stage another part of the same phrase means they are believers they accept the Revelation they say that there is such a thing as God and afterlife and there are prophets and there is a book I
believe all of it but I don't care yeah yeah yeah I'm Muslim well so what yeah there's an Ayah so what yeah the prophet said it wasam so what what's the big deal let me live in other words they have no problem on the one hand making identifying themselves as people who are bound by the relationship with Allah Islam they're Bound by that but at the same time they can act like they can break the rules whenever they feel like it with no remorse now all of us are human beings including myself we all make
plenty of mistakes we all have plenty of Regrets We have all plenty of sins there's no shortage but there's a difference between making a mistake and not caring about a mistake there's a big difference between them these people they just break the ties whenever they feel like it anyway so the first part of the definition of the f is they don't care they break the tie made with Allah whenever they feel like it what does that look like it looks like hey I Allah wants me to pray five times a day okay I'll pray five
times a day Allah wants me to stay away from certain things that are Haram yeah but I pray five times a day that should be good enough so I'm going to keep some things that Allah says other things I could just you know break them when I feel like it that doesn't go with my personal preference so I can just violate whichever string hold on to whichever parts of the dean and let let go of whichever parts of the dean based on my own personal preference either we surrender to this contract or we don't now
in law in law whenever you have a contract if you have a contract that's Financial in nature a legal contract an employment contract whatever kind of contract it has Clauses right it has conditions if you you don't get to say I like conditions a b and c but de and F I don't care at least I do a and C no if you break any one of those Clauses the contact the contract is violated you're going to court CU that's what a contract is those who violate the contract doesn't mean they violate all of it
they're just selective about their violations they're selective so I could violate one part you could violate a different part and we just get to feel good about ourselves because at least I at least I still do a b and c at least you know but nobody can go to court and tell the judge look there are five Clauses but four of them I'm pretty good so you should let me off the hook look there's a driver's license I stop at every stop sign I stop at every red light but I never indicate when I change
lanes and I drive on the opposite side of a one-way street so what I stop at every red light that's good enough right that logic doesn't work they violate the conditions that allowed you to have a license that's the first thing this the because their corruption comes out the second gets scarier it's more unexpected Allah says they cut listen carefully they cut what Allah commanded should stay joined Allah commanded some things should stay together and these people cut those things apart Allah didn't say what it is what should stay together and what are they cutting
apart Allah didn't say he just simp simply mentioned this phrase some things Allah has commanded should stay together and these people cut them apart so early Muslims when they were commenting on this ay even more recent comment Aries you'll find interesting things that the sahab said about this Ayah some people said you know some people want to listen to Allah but they don't want to listen to Allah's messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam so they cut between Allah and his messenger some people cut between this life and the next life they only care about this life they
don't care about the next life this religion that we've been given it binds the two lives together everything we do do in this D affects the next one they're bound together they're not separable there's a just like in physics or chemistry or biology there's action and reaction in the spiritual world every action in D has a reaction in the they're intrinsically tied to each other you cannot cut them from each other but then there's some other overwhelming commentary about this aah and you know what that is that is about people Allah has put people in
my life I didn't choose them I didn't choose my mom and I didn't choose my dad Allah chose them I didn't choose my brother I didn't choose my sister Allah chose them I didn't choose my cousins I didn't choose my children Allah chose them those are now your your business partner you chose your best friend you chose your husband or your wife you chose but your mother your father your sister your brother your children you didn't choose that is a and sometimes you look at your brother and you say how are you my brother we
have no common traits you're completely different M of Allah if if you were not my brother I would never have wanted to be in the same room with you complete opposite personality but who joined them together that's Allah that's Allah who joined Noam and his son his son is nothing like n Alam who joined ibraim and his father they're nothing like each other who joined wasam to his uncle Abu laab who did that and you find over and over again who joined YF Alam with his murderous Brothers these are connections that were not made by
me they were not made by you these were made by Allah and Allah says in this Ayah the definition of those who are corrupt is they cut what Allah commanded should stay joined and the sahabah a huge number of sahabah and early Muslims said this Ayah is about people that you and I are connected to by Blood I don't have to like my cousin but I'm joined to my cousin I don't have to like my uncle but I'm joined to my uncle nowadays because we're in the age of Tik to and Instagram therapy I don't
like my dad he's a narcissist I don't like my mom she's toxic that's why I keep a distance I don't call them back you didn't have a choice Allah commanded some ties should remain tied I want you to understand this Ayah from another perspective in the ancient world when these ayat came the way we think about family now is not how we used to think about family then you know what family was back then family was an entire tribe you you're born your siblings are next to you your dad your mom his brothers they live
next door the grand grandparents on both sides the whole tribe is together there a large family unit and all of these are for you all of them are Blood Ties that's why tribal identity was very strong but in the modern world with nation states with new capitalism what's happened we created a hyper individual Society in big cities in in large Metropolitan centers like New York or Sydney or you know places like that or even like Hong Kong and other cities people leave the village and they go for a university or they go for a job
right and they leave their parents in the village and they go get a job and so you have a bunch of people that are single or they just got married and it's just husband and wife maybe husband wife child maybe maybe that and that's the new family and when do you see your parents maybe I'll I'll call them on the weekend when do you see your cousins maybe every other Eid or something so the family became separated and that's part of the design of the new nation state is they don't want want you to have
a close connection with your family they want you to think of your identity as an individual not as a family to cut as much as cut it as much as possible as much as possible so now we you know there's all these in modern culture you'll have all these movies about like you know family visiting during Christmas or whatever and there's always drama and problems I hate it because my family is coming over because family's a problem family's a burden my uncle's crazy my mom this my dad that my brother this oh my God I
have to put up with them they're going to be in my house etc etc etc this is the new hyper individualistic mentality what did the Quran give us Allah said their family ties they should never be cut in fact the way the Arabs understood this back then when the ayat were revealed they already had family ties and what Allah is saying is keep the family ties don't let them break don't let drama generate inside the family where two brothers have a fight with each other and now like I'm never going to talk to you again
I don't want to deal with you you again and the idea that families will always have problems with each other is also a reality in the Quran the first murder in the history is one brother killing the other and there are brothers that are trying to kidnap and you know Outcast a child and throw him in a well in the Quran there's a father who's agreed to throw his own son into a fire like ibraim Alam his father this has happened family Dynamics are ugly even in Quran so what is Allah teaching us Allah chose
one of the biggest tests in my life and one of the biggest tests in your life to be the people that are tied to you by Blood they're the biggest test for you they're one of the biggest tests for me they were some of the biggest tests for the prophets of Allah one of ibraim alam's biggest tests was his father YF alam's biggest trest was his brothers yam's biggest test was his sons alam's biggest test is his own son son one of his biggest tests is his own uncles family family family family over and over
again and yet Allah says something should stay joined something should stay joined now how do you keep the ties of family together at the same time when you have someone like ABAB that's what I want to talk to you about a little bit you see everyone we there there's a a new term in game psychology called main character syndrome some of the young people here might be familiar I'm the main character in my own story everybody else is an NPC right everybody else's background everybody else is either the villain or a boss or whatever I'm
the victim I'm the hero everything's happening to me everybody else has a problem so if you hear a about jealousy you're like oh man I wish my cousin was here he's got a jealousy problem if you hear about anger oh I wish my dad was here he's got a such an anger issue if you hear about arrogance oh my God my sister I wish she was here if you hear about gratitude oh my God I wish my wife was here she needs to learn about gratitude every time you hear about something it's not about me
everybody else has the problem I'm the only one that doesn't have the problem and the other people that you are thinking about they think exactly the same way they think they have the sa they have the shukar they have the peace they have the Justice You're the problem everybody's become the main character and in doing so we easily say oh you know my dad is just like or my son is's like the son ofam easy to make somebody else the villain right you don't know what they said that one time you don't know what they
did that other they may have done things it's possible they may have done those things but you know what nobody's defined by their mistakes nobody's defined by them and even though we don't give every anybody a free pass at the same time you don't get to just disqualify a relationship and end a relationship because something upset you or upset me we don't get to do that you can walk away from a business partner because that's a business partner you chose you can walk away from a customer or a salesperson or who because those are your
choices in fact in the Quran you can even walk away from a marriage because it's a contract you can walk away from it you can't walk away from your brother you you can't walk away from your father you can't walk away from your mother you can't walk away from your child why not because you didn't choose them that's something Allah joined and the people who break that are the first definition of the F now what did I tell you about the fik in the beginning of this they are the ones who make a joke out
of the ayat of Allah they are the ones that have corruption deep inside they are the ones that don't deserve the guidance of Allah imagine that the reality of this is that there are two Extremes in the old times there used to be tribe systems big families large you know joint family systems right tribal life and in tribal life what happens is the elder has the most Authority so if the Elder has a big ego then he will do all kinds of Injustice in the family and nobody can question it why because is the elder
he will tell a son uh don't talk to this this one cut those people off take the money away kick this one out of the house and everybody has to follow what did Allah say Allah said even when there is a tribal hierarchy you don't get to break those ties just because he told you nobody can tell you to break a tie you have to go rebel against the Elder of the family to keep the keep the sometimes you have to do that even that was a revolution but in the modern world we have a
new problem sometimes we don't have that kind of authority in our families cuz we're living in different continents we don't have that we have a new kind of problem we have people that have a grudge against each other we have a grudge against each other there are there are men for example that have children from different marriages and the the children the the the mothers of those children or the families of those children are being trained they're training those kids to hate each other those kids are tied to each other by Blood by Blood and
when someone is telling them to not connect with each other not talk to each other cut each other all of that what are they doing they're doing exactly what Allah described when he said they're cutting what Allah commanded to keep joined there are people who had a two brothers had a fight long time ago they were doing a business together they had a fight now they don't call each other they don't talk to each other or whatever right now both of them have children and those children are cousins with each other they have relationship and
in fact you should be good to your uncle also in a Hadith about the maternal aunt said your mother's sister has the same status as your own mother another narration that Al mentions if you didn't walk to your to your family member walk over to them and you didn't help them then you've cut the ties that much that much expectation but now you have oh I can't talk to my cousin if my dad finds out he's going to be really mad because we're supposed to stay away from that family at all cost who are you
to cut someone off from that family who who gave you that right ah the only way you can have that right is when you take the word of Allah and toss it aside and then say you know what prayers yes reciting Quran with t yes keeping the Family Ties no thank you I don't need to follow this Clause I'll follow the other Clause I'll go to though I'll go to in Ramadan but I'll cut the family ties and as a result of that they create corruption in the land a new emerging phenomenon in in Western
countries is uh divorce and the Muslim families and with divorce sometimes there are children and the children because divorce gets ugly the children are being pushed by the father oh your mother did this your mother did that your mother did the other and the mother is saying your father you know what he did to me you know how much he hurt me etc etc etc now the child is being ripped apart his little child is being ripped apart he's his F says I should respect and honor my mother and I should respect and honor my
father and if those mother and the mother and father can hate each other it's allowed that's why they're not married anymore you know what life goes on but if they take their hatred and they try to inject that hatred into who the children they are they are living they are living examples of the fik who makes fun of the word of Allah living examples of that your Grudge your anger your problem is your problem Allah connected that child to that man and Allah connected that child to that woman no matter how much you don't like
that woman or no matter how much you don't like that man that is Allah's decision not yours that is not yours and the moment you openly or implicitly or explicitly through your behaviors through your manipulations if you try to turn a child against any parent or any part of their family because it makes you feel good it makes you feel like oh I want I won the kids they're on my side now they're not on his side they're not on her side you know to figure out a way to turn them against each other then
understand that and and what's what's ironic about this is people become selective about their religion right so these are the same people I've seen in communities same people that are at the Masid at F and these are people that are praying their kids are you know learning Quran you know the women are observing the Islamic code dress code they're going to Haj Andra everything is so Islamic on the outside but these words of Allah that are like literally in the beginning of fa are being violated every single day and being mocked every single day what
religion is this what Islam is this Islam of appearances Islam of rituals and no no practice this is Allah Allah describing those are the ultimately corrupt those are the ultimate losers why did Allah mention losers at the end this is what I'll leave you with because people that cut Family Ties they think they have some kind of Victory I was able to make a son hate their father I won I was able to make my daughters or my my children hate their mother I won they like my my side of the family more they hate
sometimes people even they're not even divorced they're married but the the mother is able to turn the kids against the father side of the family or the father is able to turn the kids against the mother side of the family and the father feels like he won every Eid they don't want to go to Mom's side they want to come to my side of the family they want to be here they don't want to be there yes I win Allah says those are the ultimately corrupt when you see this kind of thing happening this is
the last comment I make please take it seriously when you see this happening in your family I don't care if it's your father doing it I don't care if it's your mother doing it I don't care if it's your older brother doing it or your CH whoever's doing it in your family whoever's doing it in your family what is the expectation from you what should you do Allah says don't let your hate for another group of people keep you from being just it doesn't matter how much you hate someone you cannot be unfair to them
it doesn't matter be just it is the closer thing to tawa Allah says Believers be mindful of Allah and say things in a straightforward way Dad that is wrong straightforward Mom that's evil straightforward we're not going to listen to you because those are Family Ties we're not going to do that because we have to answer Allah straightforward the only way you can develop the courage to be straightforward is when your fear of Allah and your desire to protect yourself from Allah is so much greater than your fear of making your uncle or your father or
your mother or your brother or whoever else upset right now we live under the fear of people being upset and we don't have enough fear of Allah we don't have enough fear of Allah that's why Allah said have tawa of Allah and say things in a straightforward fashion because when you don't have tawa of Allah you will have tawa of someone else and when you have tawa of someone else you cannot be straightforward in what you got to say you can't have it then you'll have pretend tawa everywhere else I have tawa in prayer I
have tawa in fasting I have tawa in halal food but I don't have tawa in my family you could just pick and choose you know this is what we must emerge from how can we talk about Justice in the world how can we talk about the um doesn't get treated with Justice we need to stand up and we need to defend our right you can't even defend the rights of the wrong happening inside your own family and now you're going to talk about the umah having Justice what hypocrisy is this what hypocrisy is this it's
time to wake up the Quran doesn't talk about these things in small ways Allah is basically teaching us how the world changes when you and I become people of Justice in our personal life in our family life then we have some ground to stand on on which we can say now we want Justice in our society then we could talk about bigger components of justice and that's so funny right so interesting that you have people that are unjust to their families and all day discussing Pol itics and the Injustice in the world at the same
