um how does Dyslexia affect students outside of reading this is one that's very dear to my heart um I wouldn't know how that happened um if I didn't have the experience with my sweet son who's dyslexic um it is a language processing deficit so and sequence memory issues so when I give my son directions and they're auditory based like I need you to go pick up your clothes and put your toys away and make your bed and he just kind of looks at me okay did you not hear what I said I need you to
you know pick up your toys put your clothes away make your bed and I would just get Waterworks I don't know what you said I don't know what you want me to do first and so as as a parent initially I had all these misconceptions of he's not listening he's disrespectful he's trying to get out of work and I am so grateful for figuring out what it affects in their behavior because it made me a more patient mother and I was so grateful for that knowledge because I thought there were things that I was doing
wrong and I was punishing for things that were out of his control and when I realized my son needs one or two directions at a time he needs A visual representation and I may need to tell him two or three different times without getting upset in different ways for him to accomplish what I need and I need him to say it back to me just yesterday I was on the phone with my son I was headed to go pick up his sister from school and I they have jobs after school and he said what's my
jobs mom and I said I need you to pick up 10 things in your room bring down any food or cups you've got in your room I don't know why they all take food to their room but that's was one of his jobs that he had to do that and empty his part of the dishwasher and I said it two more times and then I had him repeat it back to me what he needed to do and I would not have known to do that a few years ago and it makes our life a lot
more bearable because when I got home his jobs were done um but it absolutely affects more aspects um than just reading so again the same things apply patience visual instructions one or two at a time have them repeat back to you all those things will be very beneficial
