there's a growing online campaign to raise money for CEO murder suspect Luigi Manon get this more than $70,000 have been donated to a fundraiser for Ron's legal defense people are also posting messages supporting the 26-year-old and celebrating the death celebrating the death of United O'Brien Thompson many of the comments expressed frustration over the country's Health Care system with users sharing their own personal stories of being denied insurance coverage joining us now to talk about this US Special correspondent for BBC news our friend caty K caty so good to see you I mean let's be clear
there are plenty of reasons to be angry at the healthcare industry uh endorsing violence endorsing murder uh of of a man a father uh just crosses every sort of line but talk to us about what you see this what this symbolizes here for the country where there's such anger not just the healthare industry but institutions r large yeah we saw some of this even before the election didn't we how much dissatisfaction there is with American institutions if you take all of the polling it shows that you know from us the media through to business through
to politicians approval ratings are so low and healthc Care industry is down there as well I I personally was surprised by the amount of online outrage um uh about the healthcare industry and the online support for manjon and uh it doesn't look Jonathan like this is some kind kind of interference from a foreign entity from what I understand it looks like this is organic this is homegrown it's genuine it looks like it is I'm it's the kind of thing where you think maybe the Russians would step in and cause divisions in American society but I
don't think that's what we're seeing it does look to be genuine American outrage at the healthc care industry and a and a sort of and a surprising callousness frankly about the killing of this individual yeah yeah now let's be clear here Donald Trump nothing to do with this incident whatsoever but he is someone who has used for his political Advantage the anger institutions he has so for years and he's done so in part by contributing to that anger by attacking those institutions vilifying them and now it does seem like that's part of what set the
tone in the country for this not only anger at these big things that people don't feel like are helping um but also helped Propel Trump's Victory this past November there's a different language in the country and that's certainly the case since Donald Trump came onto the scene in 2016 the way he talks about from the very moment he came down the escalator about sending us rapists and drug lords across the country and criminals the way he's talked about people um that has changed the way that politicians at thep we're not used to politicians at the
top using the kind of language that Donald Trump has and that Cascades right down through the system and people's uh language more generally then becomes more crass I don't know that that necessarily translates into okay a vigilante system of justice is now acceptable and the norm in America because of what one person says in the chief executive's office that seems a bit of a stretch but I think I have spoken to a few people since this killing who have said are we headed for a period where people feel it is okay to try and Tra
retribution they'll find out they're wrong and that they will end up in prison and the American justice system does hold and that uh Manon will get served due process in this particular instance but there is a kind of a feeling of a slight kind of toxic feeling of anger meets we don't trust institutions where and it's okay to take our things into our own hands but caty let's go on that a little further in our in our final minute here this normalization of the idea of political violence the fact that man Jon is cheered on
by people online and also we heard it again yesterday Donald Trump pledging to Pardon those who were convicted for the January 6th Riot including those who committed violent acts within the first nine minutes he is now telling us I don't know why particularly it's 9 minutes but anyway within the first nine minutes uh he sounds like he is going to make good on his word um he was sometimes a little koi about this out on the campaign Trail not wanting to give uh specifics but but it looks like he's going to have an incredibly busy
first day um I thought the other part of that that was interesting is not just what he said about the janary the six defendants who are in prison but also what he said about drill baby drill and I think we're going to see a lot of executive actions on that first day that lift regulations around protecting the environment when it comes to fossil fuels and extraction of fossil fuels it's clear that this is an an Administration that is going to go perhaps more than any more than anything else that it does is going to go
full bore on uh business and the pushing what billionaires and Business Leaders in the American Community want and and that is why you are seeing the ball go down to Mar Lago to make cozy with Donald Trump yeah exploring lifting potentially banking regulations too some really important ones US Special correspondent for BBC News K K thank you stick around we'll talk to you again on Morning Joe in a minute e
