is it still worth it to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner if you're applying to a program potentially starting next year and graduating in about 2 to 3 years is it still going to be worth it to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner and I'm going to give you my reasons why it may not or it may be worth it so stay [Music] tuned welcome back to the channel I'm Dy I'm a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner and in this channel I go over several different topics related to nurse practitioners nursing and starting your own private practice
if you are interested in any of these topics please feel free to subscribe make sure you like this video and follow me on Instagram @ life of ay P so you probably clicked this video because you're interested in becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner whether you're already in the program or you're thinking about switching careers or you're potentially applying to psychiatric nurse practitioner school this video is right for you because I'm going to be going over why I think it's still worth it in 2025 to still become a psychiatric nurse practitioner yes I know we're early
on into 2024 but if you think about it for the people that are applying more than likely they're not going to start their program until either the end of this year or the beginning of next year or if you're already in the program more than likely you're not going to be board certified have all your things ready and credentialing ready and all the different paperwork and licenser ready and you're not going to be actually practicing until 2025 and people are constantly asking me if it's still worth it and I'm going to go over those things
but I definitely do feel like it's still worth it and I'm going to be giving you five reasons why it's still worth it to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner in 2025 so let's go so the very first reason why I think it's still worth it to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner in 2025 is there's a huge demand for mental health services whether you're providing Psychotherapy to individuals couples or groups or you're providing medication management or you're being able to provide some type of coaching there's so many different things involved in mental health and being able
to provide mental health care that it's opening up a lot more opportunities for us nurse practitioners to be able to provide these type of services because more and more people are wanting to seek out Services which is going to be able to provide us with more opportunities to hire on new grab nurse practitioners to higher on experienced nurse practitioners and being able to expand programs and this is a good thing especially for psychiatric nurse practitioners as a whole the demand is there and if you're wanting to be able to get into the field because you're
wanting to help because more and more people are wanting the services this is definitely a field for you so the second reason why I think it's still worth it to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner in 2025 is your autonomy autonomy is a huge huge things especially in the world of Psychiatry and mental health and as a psychiatric nurse practitioner practicing for almost 7 years now I definitely had my fair share of moments where I had so much autonomy to be able to provide my type of care to be able to provide the way to provide
just services that I want to be able to provide and there's not that many Specialties out there that you're able to do so yes I still had a lot of guidance yes I still had a lot of um things that I had to abide by and rules that I had to kind of play Within but for the most part when deciding the treatment plan when deciding the medications when deciding what type of modality of treatment I want to be able to provide I was able to do so luckily for me I had a lot of
guidance in the very beginning so I was able to get a lot of the help up front but at the same time not many people are going to get that so that's definitely can be a con but for the most part autonomy is a huge huge thing especially as more and more states are starting to become independent and California is starting to head towards that and that's a good thing but more and more states that are starting to become independent it's going to give you more autonomy into the type of care you want to be
able to provide and for the individuals that are in independent states they get to decide on what type of care they want to do whether it's going to be therapy only or whether it's going to be a combination of medication management and therapy or maybe it's just medication management you have so much flexibility within this role that it's amazing things then this is a great great opportunity for you so the third reason why I think it's still worth it to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner in 2025 is you have so many different diverse opportunities I
may have alluded to it in the very first reason but within this field you have so many different opportunities that you want to be able to work in and so many different opportunities of what type of care you want to be able to provide like I said there's therapy medication management a mixture of both medication management and in therapy and you get to work in inpatient setting you get to work in outpatient setting you work get to work in an Urgent Care setting and maybe even get to work tellah health and be able to provide
types of services for ERS clinics or just areas that might not necessarily have as much opportunity to get to be able to get mental health care and this is a good thing for us psychiatric nurse practitioners because with how the pandemic was able to impact us but it actually helped out the mental health field because it provided more accessibility to care and this opened up way more opportunities for us as psychiatric nurse practitioners and I think with the field expanding even more and more into that tella health and that virtual space there's more and more
opportunities for us especially for the people that just want to be able to work from home or be able to provide some guidance from home or whatever the case is but this is a great great opportunity for all of us especially as a psychiatric nurse practitioner making it widely worth it so the fourth reason why I think it's still worth it to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner in 2024 is the salary and the benefits yes it's not all about money but let's face it we need to be able to survive with all the different cost
types of cost Rising especially in California with healthcare workers the minimum wage even for a front office staff which they do a wonderful job and they do so much it's increasing to 21 or even $23 depending on the type of area you're working in and that's it's just insane because you're going from minimum wage which is your normal let's just say for example California Southern California it's $1650 but now increasing to $21 or even $23 depending on how big your organization is and more and more costs are starting to pile up with inflation occurring and
this is becoming overwhelming but and as our field is increasing and there's more opportunities out there and there's more individuals that are starting companies to be able to provide services for people that are wanting Mental Health Services this offers us a competitive salary and it may not be as high as before because there are not that many of us Psych in piece compared to now but salary is very very competitive and lucrative and there's so many different ways on how you can make money and make a high wage and not only is it going to
be based off of just the salary or compensation in general just that Financial aspect but then also the benefits that are involved with being a psychiatric nurse practitioner especially if you're in the VA the C County setting or you're the state setting there's so many more competitive aspects of being a psychiatric nurse practitioner compared to being a bedside nurse that will open up so many different opportunities and just jumping from an RN to NP my salary almost doubled so that's something you also have to think about especially as you're starting to get more experience and
you're starting getting to the field and just people wanting to know what they're worth and this is a great great opportunity especially as more and more individuals are starting to become psych NPS this is going to be good and more people are wanting to get Mental Health Services it's going to start to be good because they're going to need our services a whole lot so definitely think about that especially if you're thinking about becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner so the fifth and final reason why I think it's still worth it to become a psychiatric nurse
practitioner in 2025 is your personal fulfillment and this is a great great opportunity to be able to either one give back or to be able to provide a service that most people may not even have considered in their lifetime ever receiving and you might impact so many different people and if for the people that are wanting to work with the Pediatric or the children adolescent population the impact you're going to have for that first time care and the impact you're going to have for parents that are wanting to seek out services for their child is
going to be huge and this goes Way Beyond financial compensation Way Beyond your you're wanting to have a better work life balance it's just some sort of fulfillment especially if you're working in the inpatient or the outpatient service more so outpatient services where you're going to be able to provide services from the very beginning all the way to maybe even their adulthood and you're going to be able to provide so much of the services and make that impact from the very beginning and I'm here to tell you that it is extremely fulfilling and I definitely
love and enjoy my career especially being a nurse practitioner especially for almost 7 years now and I love every single minute of it well guys I hope you enjoyed this video I hope I was able to shed light on why I think it's still worth it to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner in 2025 and if you're still on the fence definitely think about it take these consideration or take these things into consideration especially when you're thinking about it and worst case scenario if you have any issues concerns or questions about whether or not you should
especially depending on your circumstance please feel free to drop a comment down below DM me on Instagram and I'll be more than welcome to help you out until next time bye [Music] is it still worth it to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner if you're applying to a program potentially starting next year and graduating in about 2 to 3 years is it still going to be worth it to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner and I'm going to give you my reasons why it may not or it may be worth it so stay [Music] tuned welcome back
