if you've been struggling to find the research Gap to justify your PhD study or your publication then in this video I'm going to show you exactly how you can find research Gap using an AI literally in one day and this is no exaggeration with the AI tools that are available out there you can really cut down on the manual timec consuming tasks that previously would take weeks or sometimes months of plowing through literature like finding the re search gun and now can be done in just hours and I'm going to show you as well how
to do that ethically because I think that's a really important aspect of using AI in Academia some universities are trying to ban the use of AI some journals um need you to disclose that you've used Ai and some journals have bonded it completely so I think it's really important as well to show you how to use AI ethically and appropriately when you write research papers or you do your PhD um so you don't make any mistakes and you can publish your papers in topj now if you're new here my name is mar kov and I
run academic English now where we help PhD students and researchers write and publish papers in top scopus index journals so before we get into sort of the nitty-gritty of using AI for finding the research Gap in order to be able to do that properly yourself you need to First understand what a research Gap is and what will be the process the manual process of finding it so I'm going to cover that in the first minute or two minutes and then we're going to move to using Ai and to do that process and to really cut
down the time to just a couple of hours so that within a day you have a solid research Gap that you can work with so first of all you know there are basically four types of research Gap there can be lack or insufficient research there can be controversy in your field or a lack of understanding there can be limitations of previous research or you know a specific problem that needs resolving right and the first one the lack or insufficient research can be further subdivided into like several types of that Gap if you will so there
can be a lack of research in a particular region on a particular group of people or material you know on a specific subtopic related to your topic or you know using a specific method or approach right these are all types of the first lack of research so let me maybe first show you an example of each of those four types of research Gap so you can have a better idea of what we're actually talking about here and then I'm going to show you how you could actually find these research Gap gaps and write them out
in a day or less using AI here's the here's the first one that's you know lack of research and on a specific lack of research on a specific aspect of the topic right uh so in here you know that they talk about um the fact that studies have been focused on mainly on one aspect of the topic and as a result there's a there's a lack of research on another aspect of the topic which kind of justifies what you're trying to do right there's just one example of um lack of research as I said there
can be a lack of research on a particular group of people in a particular region of the world right using a particular method and so on right now another one that I mentioned is like a controversy or a lack of understanding so in other words a lot of research has been conducted but we kind of don't know what the answer actually is and the results are somewhat um conflicting right so for example in here you know very common phrase little is known about right and it is not clear whether so you know in here we
showing that we we just don't know enough about a specific topic and something is not clear despite the fact that a lot of research has been conducted so that's another type of research Gap that you can use to justify your study right there also of course limitations of previous research uh so for example Le you know a typical limitation that is mentioned in here is it's very small sample size right um a research might not be able to explain something um okay so you basically look at previous studies especially the methodologies and then you try
to find um holes in them and limitations and that's what you use in order to conduct your study so let's say if the limitation is a very small sample size then obviously it makes sense to conduct a bigger scale study right um now the last fourth type of a research Gap is a specific problem that needs um solving um so this usually refers to some sort of practical problem like in here they mention a method that is unpractical to use right and and they also talk about the fact that you know in principle in theory
you know it is possible to do something but really right when we try to do it it's just unpractical it's too costly it's too time consuming right and so with this type of research Gap we kind of trying to solve a practical problem um that people have and that hasn't been solved yet so that's the fourth type of research gaps so now that we know what a research Gap is um the next thing is how do I find one where do those research gaps hang out do they have like favorite bars and cafes where you
can find them and talk to them well the regular process of finding a research Gap would be to just plan through dozens and dozens if not hundreds of research papers to you know to try to find limitations of previous studies to maybe um you know try to find some patterns where there is a lack of research to try to find practical problems that haven't been resolved and typically you know that process especially if you're starting completely from scratch and you know very little about your field and it can take weeks if you're doing it fulltime
just of you know really plowing through the literature and reading and reading and taking notes and then you know the the being able to synthesize as well all that right it it takes a lot of time um a lot of effort a lot of brain power um and it's a very tedious thing to do at the same time you know having a solid research Gap is an absolute must if you want to publish in q1 journals if you want to finish your PhD you know probably the the first reason why papers get rejected or desk
rejected is lack of novelty and where does lack of novelty come from well from a lack of research Gap if you don't have a research Gap then your research is not going to be novel it's pretty simple so finding it is really important and thanks to AI tools we'll be able to do it in a matter of days not weeks okay and I'm going to show you exactly how to do that and in this video we're going to be using a tool called scace scace is completely free to sign up and you have a link

in the description to this video but for for now sign up on the free plan it's completely free okay um and then we can get started so um what you want to do first is just like type in the thing the question that you're looking for or the or the topic that you're currently um researching okay so you know I'm just going to uh put in this question suggested here by sipas um for the sake of demonstration and what sipas is really going to do which I think is really really cool it's going to provide
you with you know a summary of the current research on this particular question topic that you've put in okay and then you're going to have um T papers top 10 papers um related to this um topic so it's not giving you all the papers straight away it's giving you the top uh papers and really you know what we can now do here and that's how we're going to find the research Gap is to toggle these columns so by default it's giving you insights you know conclusions results methods use limitations practical implications right so now um
what we definitely want to want to be looking for is limitations okay we want to be looking at the methods that were used okay um and we don't really need the conclusions I don't think we need insights or results for now they might be useful you can keep them if you want to but we don't need them for the sake of this demonstration we don't need practical implications okay so first of all we want to untake the columns that we we don't need for the purposes of this which is finding the research Gap okay um
so what we're going to do here is anti conclusions results summarized introduction because we don't need it we don't need practical um implications okay uh so I'm going to apply this now what what we what we definitely want to and like one of the easiest way to find the research Gap is to look at suggestions for future research because if you look at a paper that was published in you know last year 2023 or this year 2024 like for example the first paper then likely the suggestions that these researchers made for future research haven't been
addressed yet and you can start addressing them right so they give you suggestions for your research Camp so what you will need to do is you will need to add a column so I've already added a column called suggestions for future research but you could also you know you would add it here right so you'd start typing it and you would create that column so I'm I'm going to add this column what we also want really is the aim of This research why do we just want the aim you know of course we can be
reading the whole paper and everything but really what we want to know is like what that research focused on why because as you might remember you know one type of research Gap is a lack of research on something so what we want to do is see like what previous research has been focusing on in terms of topic we already have what they have been focusing on in terms of methodology like who they studied or what they studied where it was studied we can all get that from the methodology right but what we don't have yet
is like what is the topic of that research in like one sentence so what is the aim so I'm going to call it research um aim create okay and we're going to add it in here here um as well and when I was looking at this table I know we had limitations in here that was automatically added by size space um but when I was reading it I noticed that it didn't really talk about the limitations of that paper it kind of seems to talk about like problems I suppose or challenges in general but not
limitations of that specific Pape so we're going to antick that uh that column in here okay and click apply and then what I've done basically is I created a new column called limitations of this study and I added it and then size space added the limitations of the current study so now what we're going to have is limitations of this study the research aim suggestions for future research the methods that were used and insights but we don't need insights right these are the columns that you want to have in order to find the research C
so at the moment we have 10 papers um in here but we can add ask sipas to show more papers how many do you need to find the research Gap well I think sort of around 15 or 20 papers especially if they're recent papers can give you a good idea of course the more papers that that you can find the better but don't go crazy here it doesn't mean you have to read like 100 papers but you can go if you go above 20 to like 30 papers that will give you a very very good
idea of the current State ofthe art and what the research G is and what we're going to be looking for here is you know for example patterns in terms of the methods that have been used right so in other words you know what methods this paper adopted and and is there a method that these papers aren't using right because if if a lot of papers are using a specific methodology and not other then that gives you a chance to propose something new right that's a potential research Gap that you can explore right similarly with the
research aim what we're going to be doing is looking for patterns right are specific aspects of the topic that people are studying but maybe they're overlooking something else right that can give give us the justification for our study um the same we're going to be looking for the limitations um of the of the studies right so maybe a lot of them have a small sample size right or they did not consider a specific aspect of the topic right and again you're trying to find patterns basically right so you're trying to find um several similar similar
limitations of the previous research that will give you justification for your research okay um what we're going to be doing as well is looking at suggestions for future research okay so if those papers are um new right and you want to be looking at the last two or 3 years but preferably you know really just even at the last year if there are enough papers being published in your field it's very likely that the suggestions made here for future research have not been explored yet and this allows you to come in and explore that novel
topic right so basically you know previous researchers have done the work for you in a way because they've already suggested what should be done next and it's likely that this hasn't been done yet if that paper was Lish for example um last year right and then what you can do what I'd recommend you doing um once you've loaded you know let's say 20 papers or or so um is to export all of this okay um you can sort it in the order that you prefer like relevance or newest first I'd probably recommend you sort it
into newest first and then you click on export and so I would export it as a CSV file so then you can open it in Excel and I think it's going to be easier to to read it and to manage all that um in Excel right so export it to Excel and then you can be looking at those patterns in um Excel that's probably the the easiest way um to actually do this and then what what you can be doing is leveraging the the power of AI here um of co-pilot to ask further um questions
to give you an example right so we've got a paper here from 2023 okay and the suggestion for future research is the study the effects of climate change and water quality and biodiversity right so let's say you know you've looked at other papers and you're thinking well this might be a good research Gap to focus on I think you know there aren't many papers on that so you can copy that and go to co-pilot and chat with AI to find out what papers have been done on this topic and then co-pilot is going to give
you an answer to it now you'll see here that you've got a high quality answer or a standard answer right if you're a if you're a free subscriber you'll just have the standard one if you go for um size based Premium plan you'll also get access to higher quality um answers which in the long run is very um useful okay and then you know you've got all the different aspects um in here um that have been studied okay and what what you can do with those answers is you can ask um followup questions right in
here you know to prompt AI to to dig in deeper into specific topics what you can also do right um is take one of those topics okay um let's go maybe um to the top right go here and then put it into our search to get more papers okay so what I'm trying to say here is that it's going to be an iterative process you're going to first find some papers and you're going to start seeing patterns and you're going to start seeing limits ations suggestions for future research and kind of thinking okay I think
this is a good Avenue to pursue for my research and then you're going to dig in further using Ai and find some more papers to see what suggestions for future research they are Mak okay so if you if you do this in one or two days this should be enough to to read around 30 papers and to have a really good idea what your research Gap should be and what is a justification for your study now if you want our help to publish papers in q1 scopus index journals or to write an excellent thesis then
