Hello Java challenger. Hello Lisa. How are you?
Hello. I'm good. And you?
Very good. So Laticia, I'm going to ask some questions about your experience in the challenger developer mentorship and let's start with this question about what was your life like before the challenger developer mentorship? Before the mentorship, I was without a big image and I didn't have an idea of my career.
I was lost in in my daily in my routine. Tell me more about that. because I achieved my goal work with it development but after that I wasn't practicing important things to my career I wasn't organizing other goals to achieve and I had some to solve but I wasn't trying to solve them I was I doing nothing to change my issues I had issues in my career like I needed to deep in some contents.
I need to solve some difficults to understand some one example data structure or some knowledge about Java the language that I work with but I was only complaining about not solving not I was doing nothing to solve. And what was your biggest pain point before the mentorship? Before the mentorship, my biggest pain point was because I I started in the IT area after can I say I changed career like I wor and in the pandemic I started to work with it and I learned many things by myself in communities and some things I only know how to do but I didn't know a base ation.
I didn't have the basic strongly to learn another technologies or to think an algorithm to apply not only to copy things. I wanted to think logical like to think an algorithm to solve a problem not only search in the internet an algorithm to solve my problem. I want to build by myself.
I wanted to be autonomous to learn something because in my previous job I worked with many guys that they are senior and I was in a position that don't represent my time of work and I was always complying about oh I'm not in the level of them but I need to solve these issues that I have to change my level to be not a senior but to be a mid level to don't be a junior anymore and I only was charging myself but I wasn't doing nothing to solve I I I I couldn't see a big image I could see uh steps to do and when I found half your mentorship I have this idea that the things don't change like in fast in a magical way you have to create the good envir environment. You have to create the steps to do and each day doing a little bit each day and don't lose the consistency and I guess that's it. Very nice.
Do you have a story that marked your life before the Chandra developer mentorship? I started in the beginning of the year and in almost one year I was deceiving myself that I was applying what I have learned in the mentorship and I didn't read the all materials that you did. wasn't trying to change my routine because my biggest problem was create a good in the comfortable environment to do what I have to do and I was like deceiving myself and after I got fired I started to think oh I spend a lot of money in that mentorship and I I didn't achieve what I I want to achieve and it's so hard to achieve and I started two things.
If I start to read and try to do the things right now that I'm free, I have some months to to try and if I don't achieve I will achieve something or international career or a national career but I will achieve something and when I started to read the book golden lesson. Yes. Okay.
And when I read that part that no don't try do and that sentence uh make me feel ashamed because I was my only my only obstacle to achieve and to do because I wasn't doing I was deceiving myself and I started to speak more with you asking simple things But it was my problems, my issues and you gave me support and I some days I I didn't want to do but I did less like I can do this. this is my what I can do today and I did and really I'm so happy and it's a huge surprise for me because I thought that could uh how can I say I I need more time to achieve this and I need to do more effort than I did to achieve and was simple yes I passed through some difficult but was simple only py and only do each day. Consistency changes everything.
Sometimes we think that we have to learn the world. We think that oh we need to learn all the technologies everything. It's impossible but it's not that difficult because the thing is that we feel so overwhelmed that we never start and then we feel confused.
We don't have the focus. We don't know what to do and then we don't take action and then we are paralyzed. But as soon as you decide, okay, let's go this way 1% every day, then it's different, it's a lot about our mindset as well.
Yeah. How the way you think. Very good.
Very good. So let tell me what is your life like today? My life today is more sometimes I still have some fears and doubts about because it's too what I'm living.
Yes. But I know that in my hand if I have a challenge it's in my hand the solution in my mentality everything like when I created the fear over overwhelmed my head and make the scenario worst and chaotic when I put the thoughts and no I can't I only need to fix some things I only need to organize and create a good path. The scenario make more how can I say more comfortable and better and so and I now after the mentorship I know that create the good scenario and I have to control my emotions to don't create bad scenarios in my mind.
I learned here half things not too technical and to the career IT career I learned here things to the life like doesn't matter the occupation but if I go to another career and I apply the knowledge I learned here I can achieve very good And how do you feel today? What's your feeling? Today I'm feeling good because even I got a flu this week.
I could do the major priority of my week and now I'm in my mom's house resting and I can spend of time with her and I don't have nothing to do. so important than rest and I guess I'm feeling more in the control of my life not losing many of problems and do you know that's amazing that's really really good I like that now you have the feeling of control on your life and well you did all your achievements but tell me more what happened in your career after you applied the challenger developer metro shape principles. Okay.
I have what happened is that I got a job in a great company that I really appreciate call it talk works in a international project I had a raise of salary in 25% it's a company that I have many resource to learn Udemy Aluda and they pay a value to to buy books and course and tournaments and what else this and I I didn't think it could be possible but after the mentorship I saw and I am living this that it's possible amazing international project learning more I'm working learning a lot Yeah, that's important. Oh, you have a fully remote job. Yeah.
Wow. And I started I work here in Brazil 10 a. m.
So I have my morning free to study to do the things that I want and it's a good time to start to work. Incredible. I love starting at 10:00 a.
m. It's is a time I like to start working. I understood that it's not necessarily only the technical and as a software engineer what value I can deliver to the company and to the client and I'm thinking about it everything I would do I'm thinking what the value I'll receive doing this one example learning something now I'm thinking more about what they were do learning this I have to achieve because in the past I didn't have a big image in everything you have to have a image what doing this you achieve in the end what that can result you know and now I I am with this mentality so one simple example doing exercise Why I'm doing exercise?
What is the result that I want to achieve doing this doing hacker hang? Why I'm doing hacker hang is not only because I should be in touch with challenging exercise. No, I'm doing hacker hang because I'm pract mathematic.
I'm practicing data structure. I'm practicing how to think solving problem. What else I can use some Java features that I don't use in my daily by day and applying in hacker hank when I'm in situation of my work that I have to build a algorithm.
Oh, I already built something similar to this and I I have a reference, do you know? And I I learned here with you that when you some knowledge is better because when you pass in your career in your work, you already know about it. So you you are practicing even you are not leaving this right now but keep doing because you want to achieve there.
A big image is I guess is this doing looking what you want to achieve because when you achieve you you already can you tell me a powerful story you experienced that marked your life after applying the challenger developer method. I didn't start in the project yet, but I guess my my biggest challenge is the anxiety like I'm worried about many things and you told me discover what technology will work in the project and start to study. This will solve your anxiety and I'm doing this.
I discovered and I'm creating I didn't create the perfect schedule yet but I'm moving some and now we talking that I only need to be focusing some results learning docker learning kubernetes and I'll be focus on this so I guess this helped me with this and how long did you take to achieve this after you you started applying the principles. Okay. Almost three three months.
Three months. That's incredible. It's so quick.
Wow. So, let now tell me if your family always supported you when you started doing the mentorship or if they supported you only after things started working out. So, can you tell me more about that or if or it was your decision in turn?
I shared with my mom but my mom give gave me support but I was living alone when I started to apply the principles and I have the support of the family you supported me too and I have the support of people around me very good and I know the mentorship isn't a cheap investment as well how did you afford I pay it in the credit card and I don't I tried don't see the value that I have to pay in my credit card. Very good. And what you made you decide to say hey it's worth it the mentorship when we have our chat and you you told me that how can I say invest in myself I can achieve my goals like I wanted to to have a house and you can if you achieve your international project you can achieve your personal goal.
And I thought yes I need to invest to to achieve what I want. Perfect. And did you also try growing your career by yourself?
If so, for how long? Yes, in the beginning of my career. But I myself sometimes I deceive myself like I'm doing my best and I was not doing my best.
So when you have someone to share and to charge you like it's better someone to keep you accountable. Yeah. Very good.
Were you worried about the time you had to use for the mentorship to accomplish the tasks we decided? And if you had to use a lot of time to the tasks that took you to your career success. Okay.
I was unemployed so I was free in my all day. But I I tried to mix my priorities with time to relax and time to go to the gym and don't be focused only on this to don't create a burnout. Yes.
Yes. But I made a mix like one thing at morning and the hour of my lunch. I gave me more time to read a book or and I I I took it out social media because I realized that was difficulting my focus when I was learning or doing something.
My mind was thinking about the social and I I took it out for three months. The most that I was applying I was about social media and I learned some content at morning. In the middle of the day, I have my free time to read, to do something, to watch videos, is speaking about how to learn methodologies and you know and um the afternoon I have another time to to learn and I try to concentrate at morning and afternoon.
Amazing. And have you been confident you could take action of the mentorship tasks since the beginning? not since the beginning but when I saw that I was doing that when one example and I could see this in the hacker hank doing hacker hank when I do one one example the first time I I had very difficult and the the other time when I have to do again it more easier like I was more comfortable to do and I realized this the constance make you much comfortable because you already did you already know how to do and that's it very good and what were your thoughts when you understood the mentorship wasn't specifically technical good and a bad thing because I wanted that to create the path to do the I didn't have to think and to do nothing only I wanted that give me the path but when I realized that you prepare us to prepare the path to understand our routine our do you know I realize that is better because only me know my obstacles only myself know what I have to solve and in each technologies I have to deep and don't deep and it's a great mentorship amazing and would you recommend the challenger developer mentorship to someone else yeah Sure.
Tell me more about that. I wanted to make an art text sharing my experience on my but I'm waiting by my new setup because I want to take a picture of my new space to work and the mentorship gave me confidence to be in touch with people that is learn is also learning to share knowledge didn't apply everything obviously because I didn't achieve that the constance that I I really want to have but I I am exercising it and but I want to share this because this is a powerful tool to every professional that want to be growing because we have to keep learning. We have to keep challenge ourselves and the mentorship gave me this mentality to be comfortable with the discomfort and to understand that it's okay it's difficult but it's not impossible and I know there are many people that is passing through this mentality like stuck in their lives and the mentorship will help them and I want to make like share my personal experience to encourage people to to invest in a mentorship.
Amazing. Thank you so much. Those are the questions I had for you and I really liked your answers.
I really happy that you achieved your results in the mentorship. That makes me fulfilled. That brings me a very strong motivation to keep doing what I'm doing.
So thank you so much for applying everything for you know engaging asking that made the difference because I could help you and we could work together and you achieved your goals. So yeah really happy for that. I feel very I feel fulfilled for that.
So okay thank you H. I'm so happy and I'm so thankful about you about your time because you gave me not support only in the technical things or you gave me all support I needed and putting me go ahead to think and to discover gave me the responsibility that I have to have and thank you a lot. Amazing.
Thanks so much and I'll see you soon then. I see you. Bye-bye.
Bye-bye.
