It's bad out there you're wondering why you can't lose weight and why your menopausal symptoms are so bad and why you're infertile and why you have PCOS if you've tried everything and still find yourself lost then bestselling author of fast like a girl and world renowned expert Dr Mindy pels is here to finally shed light on the truth literally this is what you do if you want to lose weight you will learn Everything from why nutrition label isn't always What It Seems what to what a to avoid at the grocery store oh man I'm like
listing all my favorite stuff to the controversial and unexpected meal to have at dinner I really stand by this and I got a lot of flak for it and I'm going to still say it wow by the end of this episode you will have the knowledge and the power to lose weight balance hormones and make any change you want this is not like just randomly happened It happened because Dr Mindy pels welcome back to women of impact thank you I am I'm so happy to be here and you know for a variety of reasons but
I love that I'm here you know in a deeper connection with you than the first time I was here so it's really fun to be having this conversation with you so what we've done is I wanted to choose a food that people perceive as being wonderful so I've got a strawberry yop Play now people at home may be like what's wrong with a strawberry yop play so if you can break down how I can read this and how I can come to the conclusion even if Mindy PS wasn't sitting next to me that God damn
I should never touch this with a 10ft pole yep so you go into the doctor's office the doctor's like you know what your BMI is really high you need to lose weight and you're like well how do I do that she'll be like eat healthier okay well What does that mean so I'm like well I think yogurt is healthy the culture is always thought yogurt is healthy when you look at that ingredient label why the hell do you look at the calories what most women will do is they're trained to Go 140 calories well maybe
I'm only supposed to eat 1,000 calories a day like that seems like a big expense but most women at the by the end of the day have no idea how many calories they eat and they have no idea how many Calories they burn so the most useless thing on this label is the calories and they put it the biggest this what I was going to say it's marketing for sure that's marketing okay so just cancel the calories so the very first place I go is the ingredient label so what's interesting is I think most people
look at the ingredients last I think what they end up looking at first is the calories y so thank you for addressing the calories that it's really big and Bold and that's they're just using that because they know that that's what most people actually care about and they're not looking at anything else but we should be looking at the ingredients and the way that the ingredient label is des designed is the thing that is the most in that food is ingredient number one so the ingredients are in descending order of how much is in there
a lot of people don't know that so this is mostly gr cultured grade a lowfat milk that's Ingredient number one so you know most of it has this yes okay okay you're going to read ingredient number two ingredient number two is sugar before strawberries thank you so ingredient number two is sugar so I go into my doctor's office my doctor does my BMI which is where your weight is and they put it on a big chart and that chart by the way isn't men and separated men and women what the chart isn't separated not separated
men and women and it's a chart That was created years ago when they took a 100 people that were X AG 40 years old let's say and they're like let's measure 100 people what BMI should it be yeah it's horrific oh my so if you took me that's 5'1 and you took someone like my husband and then you obviously then count all hormones and everything different that's insane okay okay so now I'm looking at y play yogurt and I'm like it has milk isn't milk healthy and the second ingredient is sugar oh and It's lowfat
milk yes yes which we'll come back to okay so the first two ingredients are not healthy for you and it's the majority of what's in there so at least it hopefully those are real strawberries which is number three I have trouble believing it is usually it says strawberry flavoring or something like that so when you look at that yo play you're not eating yogurt you're eating milk and sugar so ask yourself is milk and sugar healthy for me well a lot Of people going to say yes milk is okay so they'll say milk is when
milk comes out of a cow or a goat or a sheep it has probiotics in it and it has enzymes in it so it actually is a live living org organism and you need those enzymes and you need that good bacteria it's part of what allows you to drink another animal's milk CU you're a human and you were designed to drink human milk but if you took milk and you looked at it from a molecular level mother's milk is the Most consistent with our digestion and if I blew up the molecule size of mother's milk
it would be like this big cow's milk the molecule size is this big oh whoa It's like a moon compared to like a marble wow so when we are drinking cow's milk with a different molecule size that has been heated up and pasteurized to kill the good and the bad bacteria and destroy all the enzymes it is a dead food it has no nutritional value whatsoever so that cultured grade A lowfat milk is actually dead food that your body doesn't know what to do with so how many people have you heard say I just and
this happens in Perry menopause all the time I can't do milk anymore and they're like I get gassy I get constipated I gain weight I've heard so many women in menopause say I gain weight yeah because you're eating dead food that is molecularly the wrong size for your digestive system to be able to break down so and this is going to this Is going to be another really really sensitive issue I don't understand why is you should what if you do raw milk o this is what I have every morning raw milk where they didn't
heat up the milk and destroy the bacteria the enzymes that help me break that Mo that cow's milk molecule size down M so those enzymes were there to help us break it down so we could digest it so the difference is is that this says cultured and yours is raw yeah Okay and usually say cultured is another word for pasteurized oh right pasturized yeah well done okay so then we go to Sugar strawberries now let's go to the next ingredients so this is where it gets really fun okay modified food starch do you know what
that is no bloody CL me neither you're like that's a problem that is a problem mhm so what our federal government allows to happen it's a it's an organization called the FDA And I would like to call the FDA out too because what the FDA allows is that you can make General statements like modified food starch and that can be a word that you're allowed to put a bunch of random [ __ ] into so gluten could be in there what yes artificial coloringes could be in there in low amounts one of the worst of
these words is natural flavorings natural flavorings is code word for we took a bunch of random toxic [ __ ] and we've decided to put it into This one ingredient but we kept the amounts low so that we didn't have to label it natural flavoring on there as well that's right so modified food starch is usually glutenous so now literally the top four ingredients are dead milk sugar I'm hoping that's real strawberries and gluten few other toxins that will help emulsify and keep this together but I don't really want to tell you what those are
so I put them in modified star MH and we're not done we're not done so now we got some water okay that was fine I'm not going to go into I'm not going to go into water that's another thing okay now contains 1% or less of corn starch okay corn starch is probably coming from highly processed corn which is horrific for us gluten in corn starch too this is where it gets fun kosher gelatin which is sweet but kosher doesn't really tell us anything about the health of it we just know it has a Spiritual
slant maybe I me but what's interesting is if I didn't know that it sounds like it's healthier yeah right right like oh it's koser gelatin why would I not just put gelatin because I'm a food marketer and if I put kosher there you're going to be like oh this is really good I love how you broke that down so fat I think hopefully is a culture we're starting to understand that there's good fat and bad fat this label is not telling me that so there Are several fats that are trans fats to me when I
see trans fats it should say toxic fat so our FDA says guess what we made a mistake this partially hydrogenated oil is toxic and it's really contributing to cardiovascular problems for both men and women so we're going to ask the food company to take the next 25 years to get this toxic ingredient out and it was by 2025 you will no longer see Partially hydrogenated oils in there but they didn't say get it out tomorrow they gave the freaking big food 20 to 25 years to get this cancer causing cardiovascular causing chemical out of the
food so you really think it is causing cancer oh yeah our food is causing a massive chronic disease problem cancers cardiovascular problems I will even go as far as to say this is why we had such a a huge immune system issue during the pandemic is because big Big food is allowed to pour chemicals into to our system with very little regulation one of the quotes that I had and I cite the quote for people who are like oh my God she's a conspiracy theorist I cited in the book one of the quotes that is
from the inside of the FDA one of the senior people at FDA said the joke with inside the FDA is that the f is silent F being food it's the Food and Drug Administration but if you stop and You think about it for a hot moment why do we have Food and Drugs under the same Administration never don't on me big food and big Pharma are in bed with each other and big food is creating problems that big Pharma is is benefiting from so I'm just trying to make sure that I understand what you're saying
is that big food so using things like trans fants that are causing cancer but then you got the big farmer that's like it's okay we'll take care of the cancer for You Bingo what do you think OIC is oh I don't know what you mean we have a massive obesity problem and again what I addressed in the book is something called an obesogen some of these chemicals you see on this list are obesogens so what are obesogens obesogens are chemicals that when we eat them over and over and over again they actually reprogram our stem
cells and they tell our stem cells that We're programmed to make bone they tell them to make fat they reprogram them so now you're giving your kid this was my this is why I hate y play because when my kids went were in uh Elementary School everybody had those gogurts and they were like in the plastic containers and the kids were their lips were blue and they're like slurping in it was so fun for the kids to eat and my kids would be like why don't we get gogurts and I'm like because I know ingredients
And you're not getting gogurts and so these toxic chemicals start to change our cellular makeup and program us to make fat this is why our children are so overweight and in in the UK I quote a study in there where they're actually showing that children are grow are smaller the height of children is smaller and they're getting more overweight because we have more stem cells when we're little and less when we're older and so these kids the stem Cells are making all the different body parts making them grow now those stem cells aren't making bone
they're making fat or the woman in the middle of our country who we now have these things called food deserts where they appear to be food but there's no nutritious food it's it's a desert of nutritious food it's like all these chemicals and we're going in and eating these low calorie chemicals that have these obesogens in them and there's the woman you know in Kansas who is eating low calorie food because she wants to lose weight but she doesn't know that the chemicals have actually reprogrammed her cells to start to make fat cells and she's
like I'm gaining weight for no particular reason what happened and now big Pharma comes along and says guess what we can help you we can help you and the glp1 hormone is actually a natural hormone made in the gut and what I just recently found a study that Showed that we destroyed glp1 hormone in our gut when we eat trans fats that's why I really wanted to go through this because it's like I know some of what you're saying but it's like not understanding the translation between reading this and understanding that KnockOn effect so thinking
about that Transat fats have been in our food for a very long time the FDA said hey guys you've got 25 years so have we seen Cancer rates and Skyrocket in that 25 year period and chronic disease and we have I mean America in general is not healthy I hope everybody realizes that like the chronic disease in our country is atrocious and I think it's so interesting again not to get like to conspiracy theory but we shut the whole world down for a virus we need to shut the whole world down to get teach everybody
how to eat right because chronic disease you can avoid most Chronic disease diseases it's chronic so chronic means it's been building building building building building well what are you doing that's over and over and over and over again as you're eating and you're eating all the wrong Foods okay so making sure that people know so even if it takes them a bit longer to remove the trans fats we should always be looking at the labels and making sure that trans fats is always at zero yeah zero so I did this I did a really fun
Thing with my nephew years ago where um he bought some waffles to me and he said are these healthy and I wanted him to learn he was like 9 years old something like that I wanted him to learn so I'm like you read him to me and um he started to read the ingredient list it was a very very long ingredient list this one's fairly short but if you pick up a food and the ingredient list is really long put it back so he reads them all out about halfway through he can't Pronounce the words
and I said well rule number one is if you can't pronounce something it's probably a chemical but what just for fun I want you to go Google all of those ingredients that you can't pronounce and comes back to me and he says do you know what I found and I was like what he goes some of these CH chemicals are carcinogenic and I was like yeah and he goes well H H how can that be how do they put that in our Food that's the harsh reality of what we're dealing with is that we have
to clean the food system up or as I recommend just go to your go to Farmers Markets buy things without labels that's really the best thing to do or if you look at a label make sure it has three or four ingredients and that you know exactly what those ingredients are okay um should we be caring really much about cholesterol and sodium um this is good so I love this question Coming up it's bad out there you're wondering why you can't lose weight and why your menopausal symptoms are so bad and why you're infertile and
why you have PCOS when you're busy working and trying to take care of the family and trying to take care of the kids and try and take care of your team and be there for your friends and on and on and on it can be so overwhelming to try and think about and figure out what on Earth you're going to eat so that you don't Get hangry or so you don't get bloated I used to literally carry around bacon strips in a Ziploc bag because it was the only thing that I could actually eat while
working at my desk and actually giving myself the nutrients that I needed and the stamina like the protein but I then discovered these bad boys right here paleo Valley beef sticks they've got no soy they've got no gluten they've got no crap in them and I can eat them now without actually getting a Stomach ache which means that I can actually focus on my content and I can focus on my job and I can focus on being an amazing wife and amazing Mommy so guys trust me when I say you're going to want to check
out freaking paleo Valley beef sticks they are insanely good and they come in five flavors make sure to click the link in the show notes and take advantage of this special offer of 30 beef sticks for $36 but it's only through my link so head to the show Notes and click that link my homie now back to the episode with me and Mindy so cholesterol is made in the liver you know what you need cholesterol for you say hormones yes you need cholesterol to make estrogen your body is so brilliant that the front half of
your cycle it actually makes more cholesterol because it's a precur to make estrogen and your body knows that so why does it have such a bad repap where people are just like oh It's not good for my cholesterol right so there are there is good cholesterol and there's bad cholesterol right we're back at the same there's good carbs and bad carbs there's good fat and there's bad fat then the other thing that cholesterol um is is helpful for is your brain so what did we do we have a big Alzheimer's epidemic and mo you know
I think we're starting to learn our you know our Generations learning a little bit more But the generation ahead of me big Alzheimer's epidemic and they were the generation that was constantly put on statins and what statin did is that can you explain if someone does a stattin is a cholesterol medication and so what a stattin did is it told the liver to stop making cholesterol both good and bad oh so you have these aging people that went through this whole years and years and years on a Statin never getting cholesterol for the brain never
getting Cholesterol to make estrogen so their estrogen levels are incredibly low their brain isn't getting the right cholesterol they never got the memo about sugar and toxicity and so all that's going into the brain and of course we have one out of three women who are going to die with Alzheimer's like you start connecting the dots and it's it's like you have so you just got to understand this and you have so much control all right so sodium that sodium Sodium's here's the issue with sodium sodium is only going to cause you high blood pressure
when insulin is high mm so you have to remember that we are are we're living in a chemical reaction all day long you have things that are chemically interacting with each other so if I'm insulin resistant and I'm eating a lot of sodium if someone doesn't know what insulin resistant means mind just explain right so insulin resistant means that you've made too Much insulin and your cells don't know how to use that insulin and and this is really important because the job of insulin is to escort glucose glucose comes from eating food you break it
down into glucose molecules and then insulin gets secreted by the pancreas and it grabs the little glucose molecule and it's like hey come with me we're going to go into the cell and you're going to go to the mitochondria and they're going to be so excited because you're going to Give them energy and all of a sudden the mitochondria is like thank you you thank you insulin you're my hero you brought me glucose yay and then all of a sudden the person eats more and more food that raises glucose more and more and the pancreas
is making more and more insulin and the cell's like wait a second you just brought me glucose like I don't need I don't can't use that much glucose and insulin's like no no no I have more I have more it's in the system you got To use it and eventually the cell shuts down and it's like h Hello insulin stop bringing me glucose it's too much doors are closed the doors are closed and so insulin's like shoot what AM my job is to babysit glucose to escort glucose so what am I going to do okay
well let me go put it as fat because fat is my storage area and then insulin Staying High in the system and now sodium comes along and sodium is high and so all of a sudden sodium in the presence of high Insulin starts to create more pressure within the blood vessels increasing blood pressure got it so it's not soding in and of itself it's sodium when it's married with insulin resistance got it okay I'd love to just finish then so total carbohydrates what's interesting with this is when I first saw this by the way I
was like oh but it's missing the fiber section bingo so this one is 27 grams of total carbohydrates it has no fiber but It's not that's not even the worst is that its total sugars is 19 gram that is probably coming from the milk but then it added 13 gram of sugar which is coming from the sugar sugar the second ingredient it added it in so anytime you see something with added sugars put it back anytime you see an ingredient L label with no fiber put it back a total carbohydrate load of 27 grams for
one little container is atrocious well that's probably what Three spoons fulls or four spoons so let's go back to how we started this right like I went into my doctor he told me my BMI was high he said eat healthier well I've always thought like this is what I get heard all the time I always thought yogurt oatmeal and orange juice for breakfast so that I can I can lose weight those are probably three of the worst things you could ever eat especially if you're doing yop play yogurt but if you're Doing like Greek yogurt
unsweetened different beast and that's where I think again just like you was saying about the trans fats and the chest is that we just hear one thing and we statement so for instance yogurt's good for you oh it must mean your play Strawberry flavor is good for you versus well hang on you have to separate what good for you means first of all and then second of all what ingredients are added to that natural thing or to the thing That you think is good that's right that's right and I I can't see it here but
I bet if we zoom in on that label it probably says natural somewhere there or like they they the marketing has gotten really good to make you think made with real fruit yes made and delicious what is it nutritious sauce of calcium yep that's their marketing for kids right there that's right well it's their marketing for the moms and the and the dads oh yeah so I now am like oh This one's made with real fruit okay that we'll give them that yeah it add strawberries in there we'll give it to them delicious nutritious well
the image has a strawberry so actually side note by the way at Quest when we were making all the wrappers you could use any image you liked and put it on the wrapper this looks like a cake put it on the wrapper when we started selling the same bar in England we had whole different rules and regulations and what we had to do is we Had to do a whole new uh uh rappers because in Europe or specifically in England they said you can never have an image of a food if that food doesn't actually
exist in the in the product and if it's only half a straw you cannot show a whole strawberry cuz it's false marketing and so that's even just the difference in thinking about a different country how they Market their food and when you're seeing this you see beautiful fruit it says made with real Fruit um okay so that's how bad the marketing is thank you for breaking down the nutritional value so now I think that really gives people like the reason why I really wanted to go over that is people don't necessarily even know what they're
doing so they're listening to something they're listening to a podcast they hear yogurt they go in and they're like oh here's a yogurt but understanding how to read the label I think is ownership and now you can make Decisions right and me and you the thing that we talk about so much is about empowering ourselves and that's why literally in the book I did a whole spread on the ingredient label because I was like I can't write a book on food without teaching people because I could tell you metabolize and eat for your hormones those
are all really helpful but if you can't read an ingredient label that's a problem okay so now we're going to go one step further so now that Everyone knows how to read the ingredient list Mindy we're taking you to the grocery store okay and I want people as we're going to go imagine I'm carrying a basket okay I love and I'm going to take you through each section of the grocery store and I want you to take things off the shelf and put it in my basket and then every time we're going to take an
item off the shelf and we're going to put it as a grocery list all right so we walk in we turn left Whatever the produce you have your basket what do you put in there I love this okay the first thing is I would turn left I would not go to the center aisles so ever ever all right so the center aisles have all the processed foods yep I go around the outside of the store and then I go in I'm like is there then I have to read all the labels and things like that
so I just want to point out I would go to the left because I would go to the produs first okay okay So first thing is I'm going to find the organic food um where's the organic food I think we have hit a point in life where or we hope everybody understands this that organic isn't just like a bunch of Health nuts that are doing Organic pesticides are an endocrine disruptor they disrupt your whole hormonal system and I have I quote in the book A study that I found that there are four toxins that are
in menstrual blood BPA Plastics uh phalates which are we actually breathe in through fragrances but they're also found in our in our Meats forever chemicals which there forever chemical means it doesn't get out of your body easily and pesticides wow all in our menstrual blood all in our menstrual blood that is found that is what your body is excreting out of it every cycle luckily those of us that well I don't have a cycle anymore but if you have a cycle you're getting rid of It once a month um oh so that's is it them
does that mean there's more Plastics in menopausal women technically this study that I quote in there shows that the the belief is that menopausal women and men are holding on to more of these chemicals because they're not shedding wow so it's yeah I mean that's a whole another thing but Plastics they're finding that they can get into the arteries and they can actually cause Increase in blood pressure they can cause plaing around the arterial wall you know I think the most important thing to know is if you are not going into the grocery store and
doing what we're about to explain um if you doing nothing in this day and age you have signed up for chronic disease if you are not consciously aware of what you're eating and you're just going into the grocery store and you are Eating what you've always eaten and what your taste buds have eaten and what your kids love because they love all the frozen food and stuff you have signed you and your family up for chronic disease that is how bad the food system is so you go into the produce you turn left you see
the organic okay you look at the pricing some people may decide to do it some people like oh this is really expensive but hearing what Mindy said oh God but I don't want Plastics I don't Want the pesticides in my system is it better then to get something like a banana that isn't organic but has skin exactly then a berry that is organic exactly so there's two ways we can look at this you can just say anything with a skin at least had a barrier right exactly so that's good um the environmental working group has
created the clean clean 15 and The Dirty Dozen so you can follow that and you can go to the environmental working groups website And you can memorize which ones are clean and which ones are dirty when I first went there and looked at that one of the things that I found that they said were okay to buy um conventional you don't have to worry about the organic was avocados oh well that makes that's helpful because an avocado an organic avocado is like $3 more a pound than a regular avocado but think about that skin that
skin is really uh rough so so it's okay if it's been sprayed in Anything without like strawberries and berries and things like that CU AR they're the ones that absorb the most yeah yeah so that's a that's a really easy way for people to understand that okay so we've got organic berries and non-organic bananas avocados and oranges there we go all right there we go Okay cool so now we go to Seafood our oceans are polluted they've got so many chemicals in them toxins Plastics all kinds of Chemicals uh heavy metals lot of heavy metals
that are in um our ocean from pollution so we want to look at Seafood through the lens of smaller Foods smaller um fish so like sardines or phenomenal I know some people are like well that's no fun but actually in the in the book we have a sardine tostada recipe um or like mackerel or like smaller fish are not going to accumulate as much of the toxins so that that would be the first thing and then the larger The opposite of that is the larger fish are going to have more toxins in them because they
absorbed more like what would you say um mahi mahi that's a nice one I know tuna tuna tuna's a big one that oh man I'm my listing all my favorite stuff okay none of those so I was just in Italy and um Seabass was um really popular and so I asked the other thing you can find find out is where the waters where are they coming from so I asked the people at the restaurant was This CAU right out there in that water and they were like yeah and so later I went back and I
googled to see what the pollution of that water was right near Postino and it was pretty pretty clean so I ate sea bass the whole week so you can go down that level if you want but I want to make it simple which is small fish better large fish bad and old fish is bad old fish is the biggest one is orange ruffy oh so what about then uh w Court versus F yeah so that's this is Really good one too so wild means that those fish have been swimming in the ocean and they haven't
been caged up and they've probably been in very cold water and because of that they that their bodies have made more Omega-3s so you're when you get an wild caught fish you're getting better fatty acids which by the way omega-3 fatty acids is one of the nutrients you need to make hormones Farm Fresh means they've put them in a Container and they've been slammed together they haven't had as much Movement we don't know what the temperature of the water is and we actually don't even really know what they've been fed they've probably been fed some
kind of chemical Laden food that they throw into these cages when you look at Farm fresh salmon versus wild salmon it visibly looks completely different wild is really pink and Farm Fresh is really like a light light Coral Almost and how would that translate then let's just say you had two twins one8 one the other twin at the other yeah what would be the difference in their hormones or in the way that they feel their weight whatever in let's say two years if they ate if all they ate is that well you would you would
have a iety of problems so Farm Fresh you you're just not it's it's like back to the pasteurized milk it just doesn't have the same amount of nutrients it's Like you're eating it but you're not getting the nutrients so hormonal wise that might show up if it's a two twins and it's they're both teenage girls that might look up like you're not getting a a a normal period every month wow maybe you're spotting maybe your whole home marus system is off because you're not getting any nutrients compared to the twin that was able to eat
wild that had the extra nutrients in it we see infertility we see missing Cycles we see Really bad menopause symptoms um we see thyroid problems we see hair loss we see acne we see PCOS you name it you have 24 nutrients you need to get in every single day to make a hormone and if you're eating food that's deficient in nutrients you are going to be efficient in hormones like end the story okay so we're at the seafood are we depressed yes we very depressed so I it pro Seafood I I put in I you
know I Put in some sardines it was there there um wild cart salmon yeah wild cot Salmon's my favorite I would and maybe halit I might put a little halit you know you can go the um look up the Monterey Bay Aquarium and they have a list of uh fish that from the most toxic to the least toxic oh okay so you can pull it up and keep it on your phone if you want to know it but halit would be one um that I would go to all right cool so now we got we're
at the chees section Okay now we're at the like I to be very depressed I would prefer goat or sheep because the molecule size is going to be easier on my digestive system I look for um raw unpasturized so I want to make sure that it has it hasn't been heated up and all the enzymes are out of it and cheese you can find these three are very easy to find and then the fourth is I would like it to be organic so I don't get pesticides and that's it that's what I'd be looking for
okay and it doesn't Matter if it's like packaged or in that like you know how like a lot of some places do like the fresh cheese it be best if it was fresh okay from like the wheel that you get cut okay and maybe they would put it in like parchment paper not in plastic that could be pretty cool okay so now we're going over to the meat section assuming that people are meat eaters understand that not everybody is but from theat okay but don't forget the olive bar because That's where the polyenals live oh
all right I skip the olive barall let's go to the olive barall so grab just buy the organic ones and grab every organic olive you can find and and eat them all day long really I love olives so you could so even even in thinking about if you have like a cheese and Olive plate um it it can be really bad for you if you choose the really bad stuff or it can be actually an incredible plate if you've chosen the right stuff oh my God A shuder plate could be could be the greatest hormonal
medicine ever or it could be hormonal destruction based off of how you pick it so yes so going to the meat section obviously you have the fresh meat and then you have like the deli processed me I had no idea cuz I was like oh salami and there was like the tube and someone said oh no that one has gluten and I was like I don't understand I was like but it's just me and they're like no it has gluten in it Of them do some of them do because it's in the processing I wouldn't
say all of them do but when it comes to the cured meats you want to make sure that they have naturally cured them the way you cure meat is you put salt on it and then you put it aside and you let it age that's that we've been curing meat forever but in but that takes time so when you see aged cure meat it's because they respected the process and they didn't add a lot of chemicals got it so That's usually the best one to get if you're getting processed meat got it but now what
we do is we age we we want we need it quicker because we got to get it in and out to make money off of it so we put chemicals in it like sodium nitrate which is a stimulate it's it's what we call an exotoxin and it revs up your cortisol and it revs up your ner nervous system so you want to make sure that you aren't doing the sodium nitrite filled cured Meats okay so we can make sure that usually says it on the package it says it right on the package okay and then
what other meats would you V yeah grass-fed means that that animal has been grazing on grass and there's more more Omega-3s in it so um uh no hormones no antibiotics that's really important because when you eat meat you're eating everything that has been put in that animal so if that animal has been pumped full of antibiotics you are getting Those antibiotics in you and that is destroying your microbiome so antibiotic free it's pumping it full of hor hormones to make it usually puts like growth hormone and other hormones in it to make it bigger so
there's more meat now those hormones are going into you like literally going into literally literally so I look for hormone free antibiotic free and then grass-fed is a plus you'll you'll never find grass-fed poultry because they don't eat but free Range yeah free range means we let them roam around it doesn't mean that we fed them insects and things that they would normally eat off of but we let them roam so they built a little more muscle so they're going to have more nutrients and that naturally built muscle but yeah I would do cagefree free
range um grass-fed uh hormone free antibiotic free okay I'm going to lump them together you may not want me to so I'd Love to hear your idea but like wine and beer okay let's you know I skip the beer cuz all most beer has gluten in it so you know if you don't want that belly like get you know get rid of the beer now there's some gluten-free beers but you know I don't really see anything really wonderful about beer um so other than a lot of people love the taste but I can't tell you
there's a nutritional upside um wine we have some polyphenols in there um and if you buy it organic And um uh biodynamic meaning they have not sprayed Those Grapes you you aren't getting a a glass of pesticides biodynamic means that they had to grow Those Grapes in conjunction with like things like the moon because they plant these grapes at certain times of the Moon because the insects come out at different times of the moon so they're honoring the rhythm of the earth there's other rhythms that they're honoring so they're planting These grapes so that it's
naturally flowing and growing with the natural rhythms of the earth they do this a lot in Europe they we don't do it as much around here they don't do it in nap as much so biodynamic natural uh wine is usually what I will ask will I will look for but it's not like cuz someone's going to hear this and be like could to have my polyphenol today and so now they're having two glasses of wine because they're trying to get in their Poly trying to get in their so I really stand by this and I
got a lot of flak for it and I'm going to still say it one of the things we're not talking about here is the environment in which we eat and one of the things you know from growing up in Europe is that there is like a higher respect for sitting down to a meal with people you love having great conversations when we are in that state We are stimulating what we call our parasympathetic nervous system and that parasympathetic nervous system is our rest and digest nervous system and that environment of friends family good food good
wine good conversation that is actually a health habit so I can't sit here and tell you everybody get rid of alcohol or wine because I have seen wine used in exactly the way that I just explained it in a way of relaxing people and helping People stay in connection with each other now they're getting oxytocin with a a really yummy meal so maybe now they're eating a lot of fiber so it's minimizing the sugar impact um there there are still some upsides that I see um so I just can't tell you absolutely no but if
I'm like six wine o'clock and I'm stressed and I'm Downing toxic wine that's filled with a lot of sulfites and a lot of uh pesticides in it I don't advocate for that do you Remember The China Study that came out about meat no it was a China study and it was like all the ways that meat was horrible and it was this big book and because of it all the vegetarians in the plant-based world came to this conclusion that oh my God meat is bad but when you actually looked at The China Study they never
took out meat that didn't have hormones in it from meat that did now this is a theory right now I don't have any evidence but There's alcohol is getting such a bad it is a toxin to the brain I am not saying everybody should go drink but I am saying if I'm going to have a dinner party and I'm walking this grocery store and I know that I'm all my favorite people and all my healthy food is going to be there I'm going to find myself a natural biod biodynamic wine and serve that at my
dinner I'm not going to do that every single day but I'm going to make it a part of an experience that I Know that experience is healthy for me oh you know what it reminded me of in a very weird way I interviewed a woman who is 97 years old and she survived the Holocaust yeah so she survived alwiz wow and there's a story that she tells about her and her sister and their thrown jackets I mean they're so underway their parents have been killed the worst and her sister got like what's considered the best
jacket it was really thick it was all the way like buttoned all the Way up to the neck goes all the way down to the ankles to keep her warm because they would some of them would freeze to death right her sister Within 10 minutes exchanged the jacket for this really thin short jacket that made her feel good and her sister turned around she's like you're crazy why did you change that jacket and what she realized was for her survival it wasn't about keeping warm it's about feeling good and for her to feel good about
herself is exactly What's what saved her not the warmth so now going back to what you're saying do you see the connection I do where it's like the wine in and of itself yes can be bad but if it puts you in a mental state that makes you feel amazing about yourself happy thriving then just like the woman with a jacket where yes you could freeze to death but actually it saved her life sometimes I think of it as being the good thing that you can do for yourself right that's right so let's Put it
in the context of two different dinners so I already explained one dinner what what if the other dinner looks like um and we'll use it in the context of a woman uh she was at work had a really really stressful day got home has to deal with the kids kids are screaming she's making dinner trying to throw dinner on the table um gets finally you know gets a healthy meal on the table but she's so massively stressed out she's not drinking alcohol Because she's really concerned because she saw on a real on Instagram that it's
toxic to the brain so she doesn't want to drink her glass of alcohol so she sits down kids are yelling people are on phones she's thinking about all the things that she had had went wrong that day um maybe they turn the TV on they all decide to watch the TV and then she puts the kids to bed and then this is a classic and then it's like 9:00 at night and she's trying to take care of Herself is that healthier because she skipped the wine compared to if she had come home had poured a
glass of wine had made dinner had talked had a great conversation with their kids they all put the phones down they didn't turn the TVs on they talked nicely to each other sat down enjoyed the experience together like where which one's least healthy we have to start looking at lifestyle not these one-offs and I feel like on the Alcohol Comment is that yes it's toxic to the brain yes it is the liver when you have alcohol in it the liver prioritized that so it's not breaking estrogen down and it's not burning fat but if you
have a glass of wine every once in a while in an environment of Health that connects you to other people I have trouble saying that is toxic I've even heard Peter AA say that he'll have several glasses you know when he's with good friends in that same environment And he'll always make sure that he leaves two hours before bed so that he gets real good quality of sleep we just have to put it in an environment that and that that is where I feel like it can be used as a health tool I mean and
that's so powerful everyone wants to be black and white drink it don't drink it right bad promotion good promotion but to your point it is very dependent so thank you for breaking that that's super powerful um Okay so we've got a nice Bottle of organic wine now that we've put in our basket we've ignored the beer cuz we don't want the belly yes um and now oh we got the frozen foods frozen foods so Frozen Foods um if I can't get a food that's that's in season Frozen's not a bad option because what they typically
do is they pick that food and then they freeze it right away so it holds all those nutrients in there so I'm not opposed to Frozen Foods so would frozen organic fruit be better Than fresh nonorganic fruit yeah because you're not getting the pesticides so people need to know that it isn't just in and of itself that it's Frozen not frozen it's about the item itself that's right that's right so yeah in that in that example that would be really good now if you take a a thing of frozen broccoli and you heat it up
in the microwave you just and you put Saran Wrap over the top I've done that so many times and maybe it's in a glass bowl and You put your frozen broccoli in there with your Saran Wrap over the top and you put in the microwave all that Plastics going into your broccoli and you just killed your broccoli there is no nutritional value microwaving absolutely destroys the nutritional value it's time to educate yourself it's bad out there and you're wondering why you can't lose weight and why your menopausal symptoms are so bad and why you're infertile
and why you have PCOS And why you know you've got all these autoimmune conditions this is not like just randomly happened it happened because we have all these modern conveniences that now we are addicted to and are using and we haven't stopped to ask is are they healthy for us thank you yeah let's go to the bakeries do you choose anything from the bakery I say I skipped the bakery so even what if it was the same situation as the the wine then where it's like the Woman has restricted herself and she's torturing herself and
she's walking past the bakery and she can smell it yeah and it smells good but you're beating yourself up you you know like look I'm just going to say if I can be very honestly you're one of my my closest friends I'm going to be honest with you of course like I would go by and like don't be a [ __ ] pig Lisa yeah like don't be weak right you're weak if you if you give into that there's the Problem MH okay wait that's the problem not the cupcake yes that's what I was going
to ask yeah so okay for starters if you're going to go to that Bakery see if you can find something that's fairly healthy read the ingredient label make sure if it has sugar at least has real sugar it doesn't have you know corn syrup in it make it organic like literally if this was Whole Foods there probably would be some gluten-free options there there would probably be an Organic Bakery make sure it has the right oils in it um so got a question about the gluten even if you're not gluten intolerant you're better off to
choose something gluten- free yeah gluten a whole we have I wrote a lot about gluten in there actually every recipe in here is gluten-free um you know I feel like this is going so dark but you know the way wheat is grown right now is that it's a hybrid wheat and it has inherently in the new wheat Is something called BT Toxin and BT toxin is a toxin that when a bug comes to try to eat a wheat stock what happens is that it the bug will die so it's great for the farmer the farmer
doesn't lose the crop but when we eat that what is our gut made of I mean if a if an bug dies from it I can't imagine it's too good for us oh it's in um genetically modified wheat so now let me see if I can find a non-GMO wheat organic that would be good or a Glutenfree one what about something like white sugar cane sugar compared to like coconut sugar yeah so on that you're looking at the glycemic index okay so the glycemic index was created to show how much a spike of sugar is
on a glucose in in products organic sugar has a glycemic index of about 100 Stevia has a glycemic index of about zero and coconut sugar is about 30 or 40 so it won't spike your blood sugar as much okay so it's it's a I we we use coconut Sugar in our house completely that's what we do oh really so ideally when you're in the bakery section you're looking for glutenfree organic hopefully with coconut sugar yeah okay okay but I want to go back to mindset oh yes please thank you because I want women to have
a better relationship with food and if you are eating well most of the time then you see that that that cupcake and let's say you had a bad day maybe you could say to Yourself today sucked that looks good I'm going to take it home and I'm going to eat it and I'm going to enjoy every single bite of it I am not going to shame myself I not going to feel guilty I am going to completely enjoy it I'm doing it tonight I'm not doing it every night then take the damn cup cake home
and eat it and have no guilt and have pleasure around it and don't shame yourself and the next day you get up and you do your health habits Again it's and and if you even want to get even more technical you can put it at the right time of your cycle best time to eat something like that would be the week before your period but it's let's go back to the alcohol in the dinner conversation I I decide I don't want the cupcake I'm not sure I'm oh God why can't I be disciplined enough I
take it I go home I eat it I'm like I'm such a loser God why am I doing this and you're Eating it and you have raised your cortisol you have told your body oh yeah that it's horrible and you're eating it anyways if you're going to eat it enjoy it and and don't have the guilt around you it that I mean I was in Turkey what do you think I ate every single day for 12 days in turkey that I never eat almost every day oh it's a dessert buckl up yes did you really
I was like I'm in the land of baklava and I'm like I got to try the pistachio I got to try I Don't eat gluten I don't eat sugar but I was like I'm in Turkey I want to know yeah and so what did that do to your heart so I want to make sure that we're kind of tying everything together right so if you had restricted yourself being like I can't I'm not going to eat baklava I'm too weak like right which you didn't you allowed yourself what do you think that difference would have
been from a mental standpoint and then a um physiological standpoint yeah so the Way I ate The Baklava is I'm in Turkey it's really interesting I don't even know if I like baklava let me see if I like it so I ate it with curiosity I ate it with hello body hello microbiome you haven't seen baklava I'm C ious what you what you're going to do with baklava it's a new food let's see if I like it and then I woke up the next day thinking how did I how do I feel am I bloated
am I tired do I have brain fog like I didn't have that so I had it the next Day and so each time I had it it was with I kept cortisol low I kept myself in a parasympathetic State I as opposed to yeah I know I'm on vacation I should eat the I don't want to eat the ble B I did so good before I came but is going to eat it and then I'm going to eat it I'm going to feel really bad now cortisol is high I'm in a sympathetic state to same
food totally different environment that you brought it into God that makes so much sense wow It's actually given me a b flashbacks of when I used to I was very restrictive dieting and this is obviously a big part of my gut issues and I was trying to get below a th000 calories yeah and I was running on the treadmill and I was I was literally just counting every calorie that I was burning and of course I was going on vacation so it was all in service of the vacation I want to look good right I
just felt like crap I was tired all the time I was Moody I mean Not a surprise right I'm barely eating running on a treadmill and then we go to the on vacation and I told myself I'm going to give myself the permission to have some dessert not to go crazy not to like do the binge and you know Purge but just like like have a dessert right gave myself the permission I did dessert every single day I lost weight right I when I got back I was like what and I'm not talking a when
I say dessert I'm not talking like a fruit plate I'm talking Like a freaking cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory that has like over a th000 calories and I was around my family yep I was in such a happy place y I had seen them in ages Y and I'm having this dessert and I couldn't believe I got home that I was actually Slimmer again I don't want to make it necessarily about the weight but the idea of how your body digests food so when we put ourselves in rested States you are going to take that
food in with Much more ease you're going to digest it better your body's going to use it better um you know just like I said sodium and Insulin shouldn't be high at the same time cortisol and glucose you know don't do well together they don't play good rul of thumb yeah I always would tell my patients if you have something stressful happen to you at work the best thing you can do is get up and move use that cortisol the worst thing you can do in a stressful moment Is eat you should never eat when
you're stressed out ever because you're in a sympathetic State and you've got cortisol running through your system and therefore you are going to be more insulin resistant and your body is going to store that more as fat so what's happening then with stress eating here's what's happening in that situation and there's another one that makes me so mad is that because of the food industry and the way it is every single food most Food unless you're eating natural food has a dopamine hit they spray chemicals on food to increase your dopamine system so your brain
has Associated dopamine with food and research has shown that before you even put your favorite food in your mouth your brain's like oo my favorite food and you're getting the dopamine hit and it hasn't even gone into my mouth yet and what does the dopamine hit do to you the dopamine hit is dopamine's the molecule of more it Makes you feel excited and it makes you feel like like stimulated and because it's the molecule of more it doesn't say enough it it's not the molecule of enough it's the molecule of more so you go back
and you eat more and you eat more and you eat more a very good example of this is potato chips you take a bag of Laz potato chips yes I will call the company out and another bag and it's got chemicals that have been sprayed on it with all the wrong oils And then you take a bag of my favorite sweet potato chips that is put out by an incredible brand called Jackson's own that's made with avocado oil I can eat the Laz potato chips and get all the way to the bottom and feel like
I'm not full and feel like I want another bag I go to the Jackson owns sweet potato chips which are my favorite that have been cooked in either avocado oil or or coconut oil and not sprayed with chemicals I get halfway through That bag on a stress eating day and I'm like yeah I'm full now I don't need it anymore so what's happened is our our whole taste buds have been hijacked by these chemicals that have been sprayed and so we are our brains are constantly searching for dopamine and then you add all the other
dopamine hits we're getting so on the stress day our brain is like food equates to dopamine but when you eat real food you don't get that same in increase in dopamine and The more you eat real food the less you will stress eat I promise because eating takes on a whole other slant it takes on nourishment it takes on I'm fueling myself it takes on this is yummy but I don't need a thousand bites of it that's the difference between chemical eating and not chemical eating I actually create and eat like a girl I put
a whole list of state Changers that have worked for me um put on some music um uh dance around your your your kitchen go for a Walk hang out nature call your favorite friend put on a funny a funny comedy standup comedy act there are so many ways you can change your state that will give you a dopamine hit without having to lean into food mhm so we've gone to the grocery store the bakery we got no maybe potentially some glutenfree organic coconut sugar dessert um okay now I wake up the next day take me
through maybe an ideal day for a woman with fasting as part of it Okay and then based on the groceries we've just bought tell me what the my day would look like okay I love this good okay so when I wake up in the morning I like coffee you know this from my slumber party with you do got the sleepover the sleepover so I like coffee and my coffee by the way I would have purchased probably in the center Isles and they it would have been organic um coffee a small batch and local if because
I like to support local so like Our coffee that I love to drink I actually know the guy who makes the coffee I like knowing the people who make my food there's a there's a commonality here so okay so I'm G have my organic chemical-free coffee I'm going to put my raw milk in it I'm going to drink that maybe I'll put a little MCT oil in it to kill hunger and maybe burst some energy what does MC if people don't know yeah um medium chain triglyceride oil and it it is really Good for killing
hunger and you just buy like that on yeah you can get it online yeah so I'll drink that um and then I decide when am I going to eat lunch and I usually look at it based off of what I have got to do that day the things that if I have a long morning of Zoom calls I won't eat lunch until those Zoom calls are done because in the fasted state I'm getting ketones and ketones as a 55-year-old woman is super charging my brain and is going to give me better Brain energy than if
I ate breakfast so that's why I like I frontload my work day so I'm doing most of my work in the morning and then I usually fast during that time okay then I'll go to break my fast and when I go to break my fast um I think about my microbes and I think about muscle so I usually will break my fast with like a salad like a cob salad or a salad with um some kind of meat on it drizzled with olive oil and maybe some avocados I just did this yet Yesterday I had
a yeah we picked up avocados don't forget and some sun so you doing that's right we brought up we picked up avocados and we picked up in the meat area we picked up antibiotic free hormone free deli meat and so I'm slicing that up with my goat cheese and I'm putting it in the spring mix which I got in the produce section and maybe add a a little bit of dandelion greens and some redo to support my liver and then maybe I'll put a couple of pumpkin seeds Raw pumpkin seeds that we might have picked
up in the middle aisles so there are a few things in those midle ises um and and so with pumpkin seeds specifically why choose those um pumpkin seeds are great for hormones okay yeah pumpkin seeds and flax seeds are the best for estrogen and progesterone so H and then I sometimes do hemp seeds because they're high in protein so I'll put some seeds on my salad I'll put the the organic meat on there I'll put the Cheese on there um I try to get a lot of different vegetables in there and then I drizzle it
with all oil okay and I eat it so you eat that let's say you've got a busy day so you fast y you have your coffee MCT powder or oil to help then you'll break your fast which most people will call breakfast and have a cereal which is usually sugar um so you have this healthy meal and so you're looking to make sure that you have the protein you said Y what else do you make sure That's in that plate yeah I want to make sure so I go back to the three principles so you
know is it something new that I'm eating do I have a good diversity of vegetables in there do I have the second one is is there a lot of Fiers so I can break hormones down um am I supporting my liver and gut so I'd put like that's why I put the dandelion greens and things like that and am I building muscle let me make sure I have enough protein on there and then I'll Throw some seeds in um for like Prebiotic for my gut okay amazing let's say you have that around 1:00 yeah and
now I've opened my eating window so let's say I pop on another Zoom call and then 2 hours later I'm hungry again I'll go back and I'll have some raspberries or some fruit or maybe some coconut yogurt or maybe I'll grab a beef stick I always especially during the day really try to work on staying in high quality food because if you're working there you Know it just keeps that brain sharp and usually that means low sugar higher protein and are you then trying to diversify those little snacks so you're not just always having the
same thing exactly you got it you get it so like the other day I bought some Asian pears I hadn't had Asian pears forever I was like oh my God I love these and then I ate like a whole bunch of them um so I'll go through phases where I do things like That so um and then for dinner I usually have like a pretty standard dinner in my house would be grass-fed steak uh with a sweet potato so why sweet potato over like a white potato so sweet potato is has more nutrients in it
specifically magnesium and zinc that are perfect for building U both as EST and progesterone got it and people just basically look at the carbs but really it's the quality of what it gives it's what's in it plus it's lower on the glycemic index so it Doesn't it actually has even though it's sweeter it actually doesn't spike your blood sugar as much as a white potato the other thing about potatoes again talk about diversification is sometimes you buy the to the the sweet potato with the yellow flesh sometimes you buy it with the white flesh sometimes
you I buy it with the purple flesh all those different colors have different antioxidants in them and they all feed your microbes Differently so I can't tell you the difference between a sweet potato and a yam I haven't figured it out and other than it's a label but I can tell you when I look at the potatoes I'm always diversifying potatoes because the way they feed my microbiome so that's your last meal of the day um and I've heard you talk about them the timing so let's talk about a little bit about fasting if someone's
just getting started so you talk about fasting Windows um ideally is it better to do the fast and window earlier or later in the day yes so here's a general rule only eat in the light so if you want to lose weight literally this is what you do if you want to lose weight only eat in the light when it's dark out you are more insulin resistant and the reason for that is when melatonin goes High it doesn't just make you sleepy it makes your cells sleepy to it makes your pancreas sleepy it makes everything
Sleepy so that meal that you eat at 9:00 at night in the dark is going to build more fat than that meal that you that same meal that you had at 5 o' in the light so my new strategy is to try to eat in the light and not eat in the dark and I've trained myself now to sit down and watch TV without needing a snack I've trained myself to not need a dessert afterwards and that I wasn't always like that but what did that training look like if you want to make a Big
change healthwise especially when it comes to sweets It's going to at least take three consistent days of of a new habit especially when it comes to sweets and then what's going to happen is you're start you're you're starting to to your Cravings will start to change then if you go a full week then all of a sudden you're building these new neuronal networks in your brain that tell you I don't eat dessert anymore and your brain Is starting to understand so your Cravings your microbes are different your Nur NE Al networks are kicking in after
about a week saying oh we don't do this anymore but you know there's a lot of theories and I haven't settled on one of like 21 days change 30 days change but the longer you stick with this new habit the easier it gets because the microbes change the Cravings change and the neuronal networks in the brain now know that this is what we do all right So take me day one it's Mindy and you're sitting on the couch and you're I've decided I'm not going to have dessert it's going to take me at least 3
days but day one [ __ ] sucks so what do you do to make sure you actually get through day one yeah so day one you're like this [ __ ] sucks like call it what it is yeah this sucks okay I like sugar why do I like sugar I really like how good I feel it's a dopamine hit okay well what else do I have for a dopamine hit um Okay well I'm going to call my best friend and we're gonna we're gonna talk on the phone right now um and then you see if
that works okay if that doesn't work then okay really I want some something sweet okay what if I maybe I maybe right now I slice up a white nectarine which is my favorite fruit on the planet so you have a little bit of fruit so you pacify that sweet you're aware that you need a dopamine shift you're trying to understand how you can You can do this different second night you're like oh I already know it's coming down the road so actually instead of a nectarine I'm going to choose raspberries because raspberries are lower on
the glycemic index and I've I've got them I bought them they're ready to go I've washed them off they're on my countertop so I'm going to eat dinner and I'm going to eat the raspberries and I'm going to tell myself that that is my dessert tonight so you Do that the second night you might not need to call your friend then the the third night you're like okayy do I need the raspberries I don't know let me see I'm maybe getting used to this little change so you eat your meal and then wait and see
maybe that night you have some nut butter it's got a fat in it it's going to make you feel satiated maybe you do a like take a spoon and you put it in a little bit of almond butter or cashew butter And now that fat has stabilized your blood sugar and then you keep playing with okay what's the healthier option it's a known dopamine State and I promise you within days it eventually you forget thank you okay I've got some random scenarios for you great as a regular woman what are the things that we women
struggle with with in order to figure out how we do everything that you've just broken down so I've got scenario number one you're trying to Juggle everything the family the job the kids the fur babies and you have zero time for yourself you get hungry and what you can only choose is fast food where do you go what do you order and why um okay you can go to a fast food restaurant I I I'm not an expert in the best one as far as like where I would go um and you can get a
salad get a salad and get a salad with some protein on it most fast food restaurants are serving that now um if that's not an option get A burger take the bun off and eat the burger if you want the fries then you're going to want to go the one I know is then you're going to want to go to In-N-Out because vonie Hari the food babe got the toxic oils out of the french fries in uh In-N-Out so in-n-out's oils are a lot better so if you want the fries maybe you go and you
go there but for the most part a salad is going to be your best bet um or a burger without the bun and skip the Fries okay all right all right scenario number two you're in a car full of kids and they're crying and bouncing off the walls because they want food and your husband is getting really hungry so he's snapping at you you only have $20 to feed them okay I I have lived this scenario maybe not with the husband being angry but I have spent many years picking up kids from school that are
crazy so um for far as you have food ready to go in the car and fruit fruit And cheese get some raw cheese not fruit that has a package that we just went no you get you know you could get some grapes you could get some blueberries blueberries are a super food for the brain so get some blueberries get grapes are fun to eat like um you know get maybe uh some cheese because now you have some fat and some protein uh you can get organic cheese string cheese so that would be a good food
don't get the Go-Gurt so you get the string cheese you Get some fruit um we used to do a lot in my house what we call hamt where you would take ham and you would wrap it around raw cheddar cheese um so I would have hamt often ready you can get the natural potato chips if you want they're just going to be a mess in your car so um so I would do some kind of fruit and protein maybe some nuts um what are you what are your feelings on nuts is it really mix any
together ideally raw raw raw raw is best Um dry roasted is second best but raw raw is best what about um and maybe this is where I geek out everyone else may not care um oh God what they called the nuts the sprouted nuts sprouted are the best okay they're the most expensive um so you can buy raw almonds and put them in the water in water and let them sit overnight and you now have sprouted nuts and you've saved yourself $8 a pound for those sprouted nuts and and can you explain what it is
about sprouted nuts That make it so good they have enzymes in them so those enzymes then break down the nut the oxalates and the lectin so the oxalate just with Steven gundry like the oxalates and lectin can be toxic to the gut so if you sprout your nuts you put in enzymes and or you add you you cause a Resurgence of enzymes that help you break those oxalates down and for anyone with gut issues that was how I came about it's like I couldn't eat nuts for so long and I loved nuts um and Sprouted
with the first ones I could eat cuz they were way better easier on my digestion that's right yeah yeah so like some raw nuts um and blueberries and maybe some slices of cheese maybe roll up some Hammet maybe you get a big thing of of grapes grapes are easy to to to to put around make sure everything's organic and now you've got kids in the back that are eating healthy and are occupied um um and maybe you give your husband a bee Stick and that will keep him quiet too um okay I'm going to take
a hard right but a random question that I really really have been desperate to ask you okay seed oils oh God okay yay why are they so controversial go they're so controversial it's a nay for me it's a nay they're inflammatory all the research is showing that they're inflammatory for the outer part of the cell so all of the seed oils cause Cellular inflammation the the research I've read books I've looked at the research you can't convince me otherwise so I don't understand why people would like to still think that they're good I thought okay
we've all agreed seedor is are bad for you and then literally like the last two months the the amount of people that are like it's all rubbish it's BS and I'm like I've I've literally felt in my own body of what it's like when I go to a restaurant and they put Canola oil hell and that's why this one though because I mean obviously you know you've been we've beening together for so long but like I have so many gut issues and when I hear no seed oils are fine I go is it actually true
or are you about to damage me like that the message has been damaging women's bodies for the last God knows how long and so I I'm very confused and very fearful that people are playing on just the topic itself and That's why I'm like because I trust you so much so have you heard the rebuttal and do you just think it's [ __ ] I haven't heard the rebuttal so let me be really honest on that but let's say the rebuttal was actually they're really good then I would need to know are they healthy like
like if they're non-toxic that's one thing but is there an upside that we're missing calling them toxic and I don't know the answer to that and then I love what you said about um about How you feel you know with everything you learn whether it's in this podcast a book a real whatever the greatest thing you can ask yourself is is that right for me in the book I have a whole thing called n of one when you look at a research study what they do is they tell you 300 people were in it 3,000
were people were in it that's the N equals that's the first thing we look at when we look at studies so when there's an N of 3,000 people what that study is Saying is we took 3,000 people and we looked at this one little segment of these 3,000 people we didn't take in you know what their marriage was like we didn't take in like how stressed out they were we just wanted to look at this one thing and this is what we found from these 3,000 people okay that should be interesting to you and you
should be curious and then you take it and you're like how does it work for me how does that work for me so with seed oils you Might go okay the upside huh and thought about that maybe seed oils are great okay let me try it try it see how you feel if it works for you your blood works as looking good then that that's working for you but I have not been convinced and I have not seen and I experience in my own body when I eat seed oils I don't feel good end the
story yeah I love that feeling thank you for saying I don't think we do that enough I think we blanket listen and in Fact here's the truth we see that study and then we try it and we're like what's wrong with me that's right that's right this is why the whole debate about like science on socials and like this is evidence-based and this is not okay everybody do you understand what happens in a science experiment they try to control as many variables as possible to look at one small piece of that thank you for that
it's helpful now our job with that evidence-based Science-based information is to see if it works for us and that's how we should apply all science interesting okay I want to see that see how that works for me this is why we're always a dog chasing our tail this is why we're shiny object syndrome where one day we're on three-day water fast and the next day we've given that up and we're eating 100 grams of protein for every single pound of body weight and then the next day we're like no wait I need to go cold
plunging because I heard it turns uh white fat into Brown fat and then the next day we're so exhausted because that we couldn't sustain all of that that were in our medical doctor's office asking for OIC because we didn't take each one of those pieces of information and just go okay how does this work for me how do I integrate it let me be curious about it we just kept going all in didn't work so now we shamed oursel went all in on Something else didn't work shamed oursel until our only answer was a weight
loss tread Dr Mindy PS you are officially one of my favorite humans on the planet and you know this I love you more than life itself thank you where can people find you your YouTube channel and your amazing book eat like a girl which is stunning the videos and just the content but where can people find everything um you know everywhere books are sold Obviously um I'm always going to give a shout out to the independent book stores because those are Mom and Pops that love authors and books so as much as I do and
