Thursday's lesson. I said at the beginning of this week that the feeling I have is sadness, because in a way, there are so many interesting things for us to talk about in chapter 5 and chapter 6. But the week is short and we don't have time to explore all ideas.
For example, we are now going to talk briefly just one day, about John chapter 6. But look what's in John chapter 6, there's the multiplication of the loaves. Jesus walks on water.
See two fantastic stories that we’re practically not even covering. That's why I said it's important that you first study the Bible, before studying the lesson, read the chapters so that you have a general idea of the various subjects that we are dealing with here throughout this quarter. Well, I want to draw attention.
I had to choose one thought or another from the many that we could explore here, and I wanted to explore the idea of John chapter 6 verse 26, which says: Jesus answered him verily, verily I say unto you. You seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate the loaves and were satisfied. At the beginning of chapter 6 Jesus makes the multiplication of the loaves, the people are there, watching Jesus preach.
. . And Jesus preached so well, so well, so well, that while He was speaking, no one wanted to go to the bathroom, no one I was thirsty, no one was hungry.
When Jesus stopped speaking, everyone said: Wow, how long have we been here? Look how hungry I am! And hunger hit, despair hit.
And then Jesus, looking at that situation, went there, multiplied the loaves, everyone ate, ate, ate, comrade, ate, took them so they could take them home and there was still some food left over. When the people saw that, they said: Boy, this man He heals, this man He raises from the dead. This man can transform nothing from bread into thousands of loaves.
They're going to get him, we're going to make this man our king. We are going to be unbeatable, because let's imagine that we take the army now and we go to battle. Then, at the end of the day, He passes by and only resurrects those who died.
Look here, someone get up, get up, get up, get up, get up. The comrade is there injured, now you, you are already healed. Then people are hungry.
Now everyone eats. The solution to our problems lies in this man called Jesus. And Jesus, He didn't want to be enthroned with that thought.
And now this question comes. Jesus looks at them and says: You are not looking for me because of the signs that show that I am the son of God. You are following me just out of interest, to fill your belly.
I don't think that's our problem today. But I think that if we take a deep look at our intentions, at why we follow Jesus, there is a hint of interest. Oh, because I'm going to return the tithe, because the windows of heaven are going to open and they're going to be wide open and so on.
I will be faithful here so that God can be faithful there. Oh, I will, I will pray, because if I pray to God, he will perform a miracle in my life. You know that interest thing?
Jesus is telling you and me, hey it's not a game of interest. It's a game of faith, of certainty, of surrender, of knowing that even though you go through the valley of the shadow of death, where you say: Yes, but where is God? Where is my pastor?
Where is my protector? The one who said I wouldn't go through these difficulties? And where is He?
Ah, so since I'm going through this, then I don't want to know about Him anymore. That's not what Jesus wants. So much so that a little further on, you will realize that a large part of the crowd, when they realized that Jesus was being persecuted, left.
Why? Because they had not understood that this man was not simply a miracle worker. He was God himself.
So there is an invitation for you, an invitation for you to approach Jesus, knowing for sure that He is God, that He gives you salvation and that yes, He loves you. All other things are consequences of that. Oh, I'm going to heaven, I'm going to walk on streets of gold.
Do you want to go to heaven just to walk streets of gold? That's interest. I want to go to heaven to live with the One who gave life to me.
That's the point. And this is how Jesus wants you to approach Him, not by having Him as a problem solver, but by Him being the Savior of your existence.
