is where Satan's strategy comes into play we see this same tactic in the tragic incident of the golden Cal in in Exodus 32 while Moses was on Mount Si receiving God's Commandments the Israelites grew impatient they turned to Aaron and demanded an idol to worship What followed was one of the most significant moments of idolatry in Israel's history Exodus 32: 4 to 5 recounts and he received the gold from their hand and he fashioned it with an engraving tool and made a molded Cal then they said this is your god o Israel that brought you
out of the land of Egypt so when Aaron saw it he built an altar before it and Aron made a proclamation and said tomorrow is a feast to the Lord here we see the Israelites God's chosen people turning to a physical Idol as a representation of their salvation this moment of idolatry wasn't just a simple Act of Disobedience it was a deliberate turning away from the worship of the one true God Satan ever the deceiver sought to replace god with something that could be touched seen and worshiped the golden calf became a physical object that
symbolized a spiritual error worshiping the creation instead of the Creator Satan's strategy has always been to distract Humanity from God's true purpose the story of the golden calf is a perfect example of how Satan leads people away from the truth he gets them to worship idols whether they are physical objects or even ideas rather than than focusing on the glory of God this strategy plays out in different ways throughout history in the case of Moses Satan didn't just want to mislead the Israelites into idolatry through objects like the golden Cal he wanted to turn Moses
himself into an object of worship had Satan succeeded in obtaining Moses body he could have easily turned it into a focal point for idol worship imagine the Israelites having access to Moses's body treating it as a sacred Relic something to be venerated perhaps even worshiped this would have been a direct contradiction to the very essence of moses' life and Ministry Moses himself was always pointing the people to God not to himself his role was never to be worshiped but to lead the people in worship of the Living God Satan's tactics of idolatry didn't end with
the golden Cal over and over we see Israel fall into the snare of idolatry from the worship of Bal in judges to the high places established by King jeroboam in First Kings chter 12 each time Satan's strategy remained the same get the people to focus on created things whether gods of wood stone or even revered figures rather than the true and living God in the New Testament the Apostle Paul condemns idolatry repeatedly warning Believers in 1 Corinthians 10:14 therefore my beloved flee from idolatry the reason for this warning is clear idolatry is not just about
worshiping physical statues it's about giving the place of honor and reverence that belongs to God to anything else it's about replacing the Creator with creation and Satan has been using this strategy from the beginning Satan's ultimate goal has always been to turn people's hearts away from God in the case of Moses's body his objective was to use the people's admiration for Moses as a stepping stone for deeper deception if he could get the Israelites to focus on Moses instead of the God who gave Moses his authority Satan would have succeeded in shifting their worship from
the Creator to a created thing this tactic isn't confined to ancient history it plays out in our lives today from materialism and fame to technology and self- worship the idols we bow to may not always be golden carves but they are just as capable of distracting us from the true worship of God Jesus himself warned in Matthew 6:4 no one can serve two masters either you will hate the one and love the other or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other the lesson here is clear whether it's an idol of stone
or an idol of the heart Satan will do whatever it takes to shift our Focus away from God but just as God intervened in Moses burial to protect his people from the snare of idolatry he calls us to turn our hearts toward him him and away from anything that would steal our worship just as God protected moses' body to preserve his glory we must guard our hearts and Minds from the idols of this world the battle for our worship is ongoing but we can stand firm knowing that only God is worthy of our devotion in
