Teachers who truly believed a student would get nowhere in life were you correct where are they now there was a kid named Shane who went to school all 12 years with me he was a burnout or white trash kid he constantly got in trouble in elementary school and then got into a lot of drugs and fights in high school all that said he was always very nice to me I was a nerd and in the sixth grade I picked Shane to be my Partner for project because we had to pick someone we weren't friends with

I think it meant a lot to him to be picked by a smart kid and we did really well I also learned a lot about him and that his step dad was a real piece of crap I know he was beating Shane and his mother there was also a time in 10th grade English when he was being a really huge jerk and after class I stopped him in the hallway and asked if he needed a hug he looked at me like I offered him a Kidney I didn't think he would actually hug me but he

did and I hugged back for a long time I truly don't think anyone had ever hugged him before the year after we graduated high school Shane took his own life I know that a lot of the people in our class thought he was mean and the teachers were irritated with how he acted out but that guy lived in a horror movie and literally any basic gesture of kindness could have reminded him that his life mattered Story two I had a student in my freshman history class who was a junior he kept failing every class and

had to repeat them kid was always high barely paid attention hung out with the other burnouts and was on track to fail again me and the school therapist made it our mission to turn him around she got him drug counseling I tutored him to get through his classes we both talked to the lacrosse coach and worked with him to get on the team so he would have Structure and a better group of friends he completely turned it around graduated wrote me a great thank you note that I still have and I recently ran into him

in the town I teach and he's doing great at college now definitely proud of him for all he did to not go down the road that all signs were pointing toward for him it's amazing hearing a real example of teachers and counselors just making a difference in a student's life really doing their jobs to the absolute best of Their abilities I'm sure that kid is so very thankful for you op Story 4 I've never stayed at a school long enough for the kids to come back for a 10 plus year anniversary Meetup so don't really

know the kids I do know who are having uh let's say a difficult time following the curriculum just went into trades or some sort of manual or service sector work the ones I've occasionally run into on the street or a shop did fairly well for themselves one was a Carpenter earning a lot more than I do another worked at a gym Mega buffed with three little girls in toe now a gentle giant one was a teller in a supermarket and so on just because you're not cut out for the world of academics doesn't mean you're

ending up in jail or a tent under an overpass had a couple of former students now married with kids profusely apologizing and feeling sorry for their behavior back in school but as someone just doing a job myself I never took Anything personally so I would always reply something like h no worries you've done all right for yourself Story five I am kind of the opposite case many teachers were convinced I would be an overachiever and could do anything in Academia unfortunately that meant no more work needed here for them I believed them aimed High and

failed on many occasions turns out just knowing a lot of stuff as a kid and being well behaved isn't all there is to being Successful as an adult I never learned to get through actual challenges because there weren't any in school I struggled in college and white collar work because I never learned to focus and problem solve in those settings it took me 10 years after dropping out of school to understand this and unlearn all those false expectations they had drilled into me I'm now doing much better accepting to just be a regular Joe happy

to make a contribution on a small scale I feel Like this isn't the only one of these were going to get in this thread this is just one example of gifted kids syndrome as far as I'm concerned and it happens a lot story six two that stand out I had a student in my third grade class he was Tiny and physically adorable and was constantly in trouble I knew he'd have a rough life because his family never set limits and nor held him accountable I was the liar never him he was a true baby boy

syndrome I tried so hard to Make the parents understand how they were harming him even though they loved him so much I was so sad when he was murdered at age 14 by his two friends after the trio robbed a gas station and fought over the money stolen another student in a class was a girl who looked older than most kids that age she was funny smart and a real joy to teach her period started that year and instead of embarrassment at the mess she was happy because her mama said she can now have Babies

she got pregnant in fourth grade had her first child in fifth grade and before high school had a total of four children when she dropped out broke my heart my coworker called one day to tell me she caught her in a park with a military guy who freaked when she told her she was in elementary school what in the world were the parents saying to this girl cuz I refuse to believe this was just her decision all the way through something got messed up someone Told her something they shouldn't have I don't trust these parents

man and then the first part of that op the baby boy syndrome one the insane level of whiplash I got when you said that he was murdered like what the hell man story seven when I asked a question in class one of my micro biology profs got so offended that he said to the lecture hall of 500 plus students that he hoped nobody would be as misguided as me and that I would not get anywhere in life And especially never into medicine Premed class he went on for at least a minute about how awful I

was to the whole class which shocked everyone obviously Dead Silence after he returned to lecturing for the record it was just a question about something he taught that conflicted with some other thing he taught I wasn't trying to be rude I just didn't get it I also have never asked any questions before or interacted with him in person before this incident guess What I got into medicine I got married to a wonderful husband his best friend a lady is married to said prof's son I met the Prof at his son's wedding as my husband's plus

one somehow the topic of me having taken one of his classes came up of course he didn't remember me at all and I wasn't ever going to bring up him yelling at me in class at that point in life I would be considered very successful even for a doctor he turned and told his son that he obviously knew All of his students would turn out great it was a very awkward wedding reception for for me I did tell my husband and told him to keep it to himself I am still amused Story 8 I'm not

a teacher myself but this kid entered in my third grade class to the disdain of my teacher that year who sat us down and gave us a huge talk and everything she was telling us to ignore his Antics and if he acted up not to encourage him in addition to telling us how hard she fought to keep Him out of school completely and to disallow him not just from entry into her class but from enrollment into our school system entirely my teacher had attempted to school him through third grade and onward a total of three

times and this would make the fourth she wasn't concerned with his inability to do school work or to even try to learn or be successful in doing so but rather it was seemingly her safety and that of the other students that she seemed to be Concerned about and the fact that he was threatening it by merely being present she had a real antipathy toward this kid I don't remember any major happenings with him and I don't think he ever treated me particularly poorly which was actually unusual for classmates versus young me because I got picked

on a lot as a kid but I remember he attended special ed classes and it seemed like he had gotten in trouble and ultimately expelled for committing some crime of an Intimate nature to another student I don't know if it was actually that or even close as that teacher had set the scene for there to have been a lot of false rumors about him and his actions there's also a good chance I misremembering Andor manufacturing memories of the time and of him or his actions and behavior one day a few years ago he crossed my

mind and I decided to Google him I'd hoped that maybe he had grown up and become a successful or even Semis successful adult I Googled one of two variations of his name before I found the newspaper headline the guy had ended his best friend and cousin by stabbing him through the heart all in a fight over a girl apparently he was dating with girl and she broke up with him but he wouldn't leave her alone and his friend slash cousin and their other friend had tried to stop him from assaulting her when she'd shown up

and he tried to acost her and the kid now Adult flew into a rage stabbing them both and murdering his best friend who was also his cousin and wounding the other friend the girl remained unharmed dude had stabbed the best friend to eight times with the Fatal blow being through the heart and the other guy three or four times as he ran away the judge who presided over his criminal trial and over his requests for an appeal described it as a vicious murder and the jury who sentenced him cited his Lack of remorse as an

aggravating Factor he had taken a plead deal that essentially afforded him life in prison rather than the death penalty he was said to have been on copious amounts of drugs at the time of the stabbing a very sad story and an unfortunate end for the guy who freaked my third grade teacher out so much and even more so for his so-call best friend story n I'm a teacher who teaches adults who for some reason need to redo some parts of high School I can tell you so many broken Souls that have been put down by

teachers when they were younger they were told they would never do good in school they shouldn't even bother trying and they will never get their dream jobs wow such a way to ruin people and the majority of them can absolutely succeed in school with the right help it's an absolute Wonder to see someone regain their self-esteem and to help them see that they are fully capable a lot of my Former students have gone on to finally have their dream jobs oh there are so many teachers who teach kids and young adults who I would love

to just tell to shut up about their students future prospects just do your job and teach them the way they learn something story 10 not a teacher but my mom I read a bunch of books on serial murderers when I was in high school forensics was really interesting to me so I read a lot about the serial murderers that have Been in the area my mom said either she'll become a cop or a Serial murderer which is is really a bit much looking back turns out being a Serial murderer pays way better than law enforcement

I'm kidding I just became an evidence technician so I get to yell at cops a lot story 11 a professor I had in college 20ish years ago was from a small town in West Virginia he said that in this town you have few options you either joined the military went to jail Worked a crap job or were one of the three kids who went to college the Army would land a helicopter on kids yards fly them around town and sign them upon Landing he had several teachers tell him he would never amount to anything and

only one who told him to get his crap together he took an IQ test and it came back that he was mentally challenged but he noticed that on this version of the test some questions were just do you know this word in French so he studied French took it again and was a genius they thought he cheated so they made him take it a third time with the principal watching he scored even higher he said that one teacher told him he wouldn't amount to anything he's made a copy of each of his degrees and sent

it back to her writing ha haa on each one all right IQ tests at best completely useless but what kind of IQ test has a question of do you know this word in French like even for the absolute bogus pseudo Psychological science that IQ tests are French I I live in Canada and I don't even get IQ tests in French what happened here story 12 I was the student I had a real problem in middle and high school after my dad died of cancer just 2 weeks before my 13th birthday and struggled with apathy and

depression on top of what was later diagnosed to be autism spectrum disorder and ADHD I had a teacher once tell me I didn't have the work ethic to accomplish anything in Life because I couldn't bring myself to do anything I didn't like so I would be unemployed and on welfare almost 20 years later after the help of some incredibly supportive College professors and a good therapist I'm working on my doctorate in a field I've always been passionate about I became my Master's program's first endowed graduate assistant due to my almost obsessive work ethic I've published

two scholarly peerreview articles traveled and Presented my original research at three professional conferences and befriended big names in my field that I grew up venerating I've written a book that sold more than a thousand copies and is about to be released in paperback later this year meaning the publisher expects to keep selling more my book was a finalist for several distinguished Awards in my field I'm working on my second book alongside my dissertation I served on the screening Committee of an Oscars Eligible Film Festival helping to choose the films that the festival would show in

competition I'm teaching classes I testified before the state legislature and oppos position to bills targeting lgbtqia plus children I'm helping to organize a union of doctoral students on my campus I've been a talking head on a regional Emy nominated documentary series I've given a half dozen podcast interviews and a couple dozen paid public lectures but the sweetest of all For me was being invited to be my hometown community's keynote speaker for the Memorial Day ceremony at the cemetery last year and seeing that teacher be forced to introduce me and list those accomplishments when they say

the best revenge is to be successful I got to say they might be right in this post Opie sounds incredibly proud of the work they've done even aside from the whole revenge on their old teacher thing and damn it they deserve to be it sounds Like they worked incredibly hard for this so hat off to you op that teacher had no idea what they were talking about story 13 my mom and I went on a walk and she was lamenting about how bad of a mom she was raising us as kids backstory she and my

dad divorced when I was three 1966 she raised three kids on a secretary salary my dad left the state to avoid paying child support and she didn't have a great relationship with her parents who lived far from us so on This walk I'm listening to How bad she feels and I had to stop her I told her she raised three successful kids we were all three happily married all of us were employed none of us have ever asked her for money we all owned our own homes we didn't have substance abuse issues and we were

never in jail I turned to her after saying this and said I think you raised three success ful adults and did a fantastic job of it she never saw this side of it and I think it made her feel Better story 14 she was also my niece by marriage and she got her mother murdered a couple of years ago I tried for years to show her that there were better options that she could be more in middle school she told me she wanted to spend as much time locked up in the juvenile center as possible

and be a druggie when she grew up well she's now an adict with a violent assaulter for a boyfriend I think she lives in a falling apart mobile home only time I've seen her Since the murder she was wandering the streets angry that everyone in the family refused to help her before her I thought every child could be helped between her and a few other kids I've known since I'm not so sure anymore story 15 because she often didn't show her work my wife's seventh grade teacher got mad and told her that she should accept

her limitations and that some people just aren't good at math she's now finishing her PhD at arguably the World's best university in her math heavy field in a sub specialty that is almost entirely math a good part of her day spent concocting proofs and ways of mathematically modeling complex behaviors of systems she designs story 16 when my wife was in school she was told that due to her brain damage she wouldn't make it to College UK College which is straight after upper school she made it in and then University then she got her Master's Degree

she is now a Teacher and wouldn't ever tell a student what they can't achieve I'm so proud story 17 I once had a teacher who hated me not sure why can only think it was because it was a private school school and we weren't anywhere near as wealthy as the other families she was the only teacher I had throughout my school life who consistently found ways to give me bad marks as well as reasons to give me punishments and would tell me I would never amount to anything I distinctly Remember her making me stand at

the front of the class to apologize for being a selfish individual at Christmas for not doing cards when I had written one to every pupil and her I was seven move on to now I enjoy my career it doesn't make a lot of money but it's something I enjoy doing and I'm able to do freelance writing in my spare time which was always a life dream I own my own house I have a wonderful husband and we're expecting our first child so I Consider myself to be winning in life screw you miss Gravette you miserable

jerk story 18 I think I was one of the hated students from my school in sixth grade I went through the most horrific phase of my life I was harming myself and wasn't really doing well in my academics I was severely depressed and had to go to therapy to function normally so my teachers were one of the reasons I almost never wanted to go back to that place they kept spreading Stories of my self harm and kept shaming a 12-year-old who was assaulted during 7 8 and N I felt extremely alone and didn't have many

friends none of the teachers thought I could ever do well in my life they called me a problematic child an attention seeker and numerous other names to make things worse they had absolutely no faith in me if it wasn't for this one English teacher I was seriously considering switching schools she helped me with my Self-esteem and shared her own experiences with me she motivated me to go into public speaking debates mu I don't know if I should name her but hey she's one hell of a gem she was probably the only one who supported my

decision to shift to Delhi for my 11th and 12th whereas all the other teachers would pounce on me and guilt trip me into staying there when I reached 10th I just wanted her and my mom to feel proud of me I put my heart and soul in my Academics and secured a 95.4% in my 10th boards and also a seat in one of India's Premier schools with a merit scholarhip recently I scored 96.75% the highest in economics and political science my 12 boards and guess what I went back to my old school and it was

oddly satisfying to prove those teachers wrong who gave up on me when I needed them it was the sweetest Revenge possible for me story 19 had a teacher that recommended I be in remedial Classes in spite of getting a b average telling me I would fail in advanced classes in high school took advanced classes anyway and I'm glad I did because they challenged me turns out I didn't do amazing in her class because I wasn't wait for it challenged changed high schools my senior year and classes were a joke compared to my previous high school

so I coasted and started an entry-level government job right out of high school and have been a federal Employee ever since moving up every few years I'm not wealthy but I'm comfortable and I will be retired 10 years younger than that idiot was when she made her comments to me thanks for the motivation story 20 most of my loud students I said they would be fine once they got into the workforce and most were there was one kid who said he got bullied but the kid said he was weird and antagonized them I got a

weird vibe from him he ended up being caught for Assault and murder of a younger boy I also had kid in my class in school as a student who I hated oh he was popular but I didn't like him he would pick on me because I wouldn't suck up to him he also got caught for assault and attempted murder everyone was shocked I wasn't story 21 not just my teachers but also my psychiatrist told my mom it would be better for me to study something light that wasn't scientific or mathematical maybe something in the Arts

because I had an IQ just above that of an average Down Syndrome kid fast forward 16 years I'm doing my PhD in experimental cancer Therapeutics with a background in genetics and biological data science with mathematical biology but I do paint as well if that counts wow almost like IQ tests don't mean anything sorry this is a very passionate topic for me a lot of standardized testing has problems IQ tests are just like really particularly bad and they're Used for so many things which they just shouldn't be I don't know all they really test is how

well you can do an IQ test that's it story 22 I never said anything like that to a student nor parent I'm not a prophet and I know academic achievement doesn't always equal with a good life the only time I tried to temper some parents aspiration for their child was when I was a special ed teacher the child had Down syndrome he was non-verbal and had difficulties Tempering his emotional responses his parents wanted him to go to Middle School in a special ed class I knew this school there was little to no inclusion the students

of that class were ostracized by the others and I need knew that my sweet ass would have a hard time adjusting it damaged my relationship with the parents Beyond repair they wanted so much for their child to have a normal life several years later I saw S at the library he was with a bunch of Young adults from a special home I don't know the name in English I suppose the time in Middle School didn't go so well in hindsight I should have tried to help them with their project instead of saying s couldn't do

it the result may have been the same but it wouldn't have caused them the pain and perhaps I would have been able to prepare them story 23 I have a couple of examples to be clear I have never told a student they won't accomplish anything but I do Give them pep talks when they really don't give a crap about stuff it's more of a don't throw away your opportunities and your talent care for something and work hard type of thing I had a couple of Brothers who really didn't put any effort in school the family

was well off so they didn't give a crap both were very smart but really just didn't care older one was about to leave for a very good high school but really couldn't care to do the work once when he really Failed my class I was mad because he was also unruly and I told him he had so much potential that it pained me he threw it all away he got mad told me to never speak to him again I apologized the next day and we made peace to add context we had already talked to the

parents and asked for them to be taken for an evaluation to better serve them but the parents never did they had a lot of money but weren't great parents they often forgot picking up their kids Anyway he graduated and we were on good terms we got sporadic updates and we found out the dude nor his brother finished high school the younger one almost ended his girlfriend in a car crash because he he was driving underage with no license none of them are doing anything with their lives and the parents are not that well off now

because that little stunt the younger pulled uh set them back quite a lot total the car insurance didn't pay for It because he was underage they had to pay medical bills for the girlfriend and him don't remember well but I think the girlfriend got scalped in the incident she didn't die but you can imagine I always wonder if you remembers we talked and that I was trying to make him be a better student bumped into him last year and he greeted me very warmly I hope he gets his act together another one recently he's a

great kid with obvious ADHD so he's a mess at school but he is So good and nice the problem is his family they're in a shady business and one of his brothers got murdered his friends knew about his family Shenanigans so some of them don't go to his house we know that as soon as he graduates he'll get into the business no one has said it to him but we have talked about how afraid we are when he leaves we're afraid we'll hear the news of his passing it's a shame because he's such a great

kid but we know the pull of His environment is too big story 24 teachers don't really care about what the rebellious students will become they just do their job with passion and Consciousness or by being impatient and aggressive dealing with kids at that age is not simple their brain isn't developed to be empathetic but just to be as noisy and competitive in their social life as possible so to answer you no teacher considers a kid at that age as a formed person and anything they say Is not personal op why are you so confident about

this just cuz you haven't seen it doesn't mean no teachers like that there are definitely teachers who just think their students will never amount to anything they're bad teachers but they're out there Story 25 he murdered someone they had a man hunt for him so I was right we actually have quite a few that have gone to jail my buddy I taught with keeps me updated from Facebook post CC's it's sad though Because a part of me feels Vindicated for the way I felt no teacher wants to feel that way towards a student we don't

want to see the worst for them but then it happens and I feel better like I wasn't a monster for feeling that way story 26 not a teacher but I can say for myself I was strongly suggested to drop high school and go to a trade school due to my persistence in doing the bare minimum and strong aversion towards mathematics I was going on to a science or math focused school I ended up with a master's degree in design engineering and I designed products that are probably used by my old teachers as well story 27

taught an eighth grade student who's labeled OD oppositional Defiance disorder it's essentially a catchall for the very dangerous very respectful and very violent students in years I only encountered one admin used his diagnosis to let him get away with everything he Would grope girls he would mind pleasuring himself in class he would cuss everyone out constantly he would drop his pants and pretend to pee on someone oh but he never got punished because of his disorder mom backed him up every time and was his number one supporter in high school he starts beating on his

mom all of a sudden she's not in his Corner anymore she kicks him out and he ended up in jail I always wondered if anyone ever held him Accountable would he have had a a shot story 28 I was correct he was in my class as a seventh grader though he only showed up a handful of times he was shot dead running with gang bangers at 2: a.m. on a school night when he was 15 they covered the shooting on the local news they interviewed several friends who all said how he was the smartest and

kindest person they knew I wish they' had interviewed me he couldn't read he didn't know basic math he once threw a Desk at me and beat up another teacher the poor mom the one who let her son skip school 90% of the time the one who never returned a Phil call from the school and never showed up when her son was in trouble and the one who let her son run around at 2: a.m. on a school night she was screaming about how unfair the world was for taking away her angel story 29 I'm a

teacher the only students I've ever had this kind of mentality about were the extremely violent ones With extreme cases of mental illness in my 12year career I've seen about 10 of these types and every single one to my knowledge is either dead or in jail for murder for assault or thievery when you're exposed to hundreds of young people every year it's not difficult to spot the true Psychopaths that have no redeeming qualities and who will only cause violence towards others luckily it's literally like 5% of the total population I don't know the actual stats On

it but I do hope it is lower than 0.5% cuz I don't know if I'm thinking like five people out of a thousand are just straight up remorselessly violent towards others that doesn't sound great I hope that's not an accurate statistic story 30 at GCSE UK I was told and made to feel like this a lot by many a teacher and family had to have many counseling sessions at school with my mom about why my grades were so low etc etc results day came and lo and behold I'd done pretty freaking terribly but just well

enough to get into college if I retook the basics did that and again did terribly after that I kind of gave up started a minimum wage 9 to-5 job at a supermarket and to be honest had fun with my life after two to 3 years a guy at work asked me why I didn't have plans to go to university that I was clearly intelligent etc etc at that point I thought screw it and went back to college discovered that bte's were thing Did that instead and discovered that it was my way of learning got the

highest grades slm marks possible for the btec level got into uni had a blast for 4 years met my now wife got diagnosed as dyspraxic got a 2:1 and now have a very well-paid job story 31 on my last day of school a teacher walking past my class saw me and popped her head and a shout at me that I would never amount to anything in life I wasn't even a bad kid I just had an accent she didn't like I'd Moved from a rough school to a poshan where people spoke a lot more proper

than me I worked all my days since leaving school and eventually got myself a master's degree but never understood exactly what I did to give off an impression to this teacher apart from the fact she was a raging snob story 32 I can tell two stories from a parents point of view at my son's year 10 teacher interviews I suggested to the English teacher that my son was far more Capable than the C grade he was getting and that she should push him more she said she just didn't didn't see it and do not expect

better my son now has a master's degree and works for an international company writing complex policy and Analysis documents a work colleague and friend has a son of a similar age teachers recommended in year 9ine that he have additional tutoring to try and get him through high school and try to aim for a trade or office job Eventually his son is now a university lecturer in science boys can be very late developers academically story 33 the other way around I had a couple of teachers that repeatedly told me I would get nowhere my revenge was

going to the teachers Academy and getting a teaching degree during an internship I went back to my old school just to tell them they were right and any no life could get a teacher degree I never became a teacher but instead developed a career in it the Revenge was fun anyway and it turned out you didn't need a degree in computer science or anything to become a decent developer a degree in maths turned out to be perfectly fine story 34 for one I've never ever told the student I thought they wouldn't get anywhere I've always

hoped that all my kids would do well however I had a very problematic student who was disruptive rude didn't do much in class and honestly harmed the other students with how much attention He sucked away from his teachers me included I invested a lot of time in him and he did improve but he wasn't my only student and I really hate when kids that show up to class and do what is expected of them get ignored because they're not causing a scene I could feel myself not giving enough attention to the rest of the class

so I tried to scaffold away some of my handholding of the problematic student he seemed to do okay with this and I was hopeful he would end Up okay he's in prison for murder now story 35 I'm not a a teacher but I didn't end up where my chemistry teacher said I would she said I was stupid and that I'll never make it in life and be a failure until you die well I got in a university graduated got a job as a car salesman and got promoted to dealership manager bought a second Mercedes and

right now I'm working on getting my it certifications because I want to find a job where I can work from home I'm also Working on starting a small business with my best friend she wasn't right about me not knowing every asset and how it reacts with a random crap doesn't make you a failure 36 not a teacher but a student something was off about the school I went to all the burnout students were just poor and didn't have time to do homework and now they're all business owners mostly Blue Collar work but making bank nonetheless

the incredibly smart or popular kids all own Homes now but they're working soulless jobs and can't maintain a healthy relationship the popular chicks mostly do adult content and only fans theater kids have gone on to make music some successfully or are even in plays to this day the jocks are still jocking and are either playing professionally or coaching Andor personal training hardly any of these folks have gone to jail other than a few DUIs however there is a group of people who absolutely blew my Mind there was a larger population of my old school of

students who got good grades but weren't too active in any part of a particular group a lot of them ended up being involved with child content or related sort of stuff and are currently serving time what made it weird was these kids got good grades and usually were the more wealthy students some of the students have been commenting on the local Facebook page for the town saying things like I always Knew he'd do out like that for one particular guy and it spooked me because there were no telling signs other than the fact he was

just different he got good grades showed up to class every day was smart knew how to talk to people Etc but no one wanted to be his friend no one had a good reason either it was just uh an air story 37 probably one for Ripley's but I used to teach incarcerated youth so the relationship already begins where you hope they're at Their lowest point and statistically you are probably wrong in that hope I truly enjoyed working with those students and have more success stories than not I still believe all students can improve despite their

circumstances anyhow one particular student never did anything he was asked to he would make fun of others who listened he'd constantly be standing and walking around the classroom he tagged the walls and desks we'd send him to psych social legal nurse and whatever Whenever we could but any time that he was in the classroom it was a harder period the average seat time for pre-adjudicated students when I was there was 17 days and post adjudication maybe 2 months I don't recall how long I had this particular student but I recall getting more serious with him

than I would with most students I had a short stint as a public defender and could paint a pretty vivid picture of potential futures for these young men And women I spoke somewhat harshly to him about what lay in store if he didn't invest more in himself and Etc a year or less after I had the student I was getting off at a subway station that had delayed service due to someone falling on the tracks I smelled burning human and thought oof terrible way to go a day or so later colleague sent a text message

and asked if I heard about what happened to our Troublesome student I said no what he died oh how he ripped Off a kiosk and was running from police and tried to cross the tracks and hit the third rail ended him instantly ah yeah it was near where you live so I figured you may have already heard thanks for letting me know I checked the news and my text messages yep my Troublesome student was the electrocuted body I smelled sad case all around story 38 IEM math teacher in Middle School say that everyone in the

class was terrible at math and that if none of us failed The final exams standardized test he would personally pick us all up from our houses and drive us to the amusement park in my defense I failed the writing section of the test which is ironic given that writing is my favorite and math is the bane of my existence anyway I just got accepted into a game design major even though he all but explicitly stated that he believed none of us would ever do anything with our lives I think he might have said that to

some of the Other students but I was clever enough to be quiet when I was stuck in class and then go home and ask my mom for help he was a pretty nasty guy though my mom was part of the PTA for a few years and he was always that same level of demeaning towards the parents even I'm amazed he never got fired how does a teacher who says an entire class will never amount to anything not get fired like surely at some point that becomes his fault right like if you're teaching These kids and

you believe they're all going to fail but you're the one teaching them the material surely it's not the kids fault story 39 the last school I went to was for all the kids who were in care in the area I lived all of the kids in the class except for me went to prison for one thing or another the lowest crime I know of was a guy who simply did drugs I kept tabs on him because he was a genuinely nice guy and one day he might be okay the worst crime I know of was

done by someone I used to sit next to every day he assaulted and murdered a little kid he is surprisingly not in prison now and has gone on to have eight children seven girls and one boy I keep tabs on him for the obvious reason and I know he'll do something again I was informed many times I would be like all these other guys I went to school with I'm proud to say I have never been to prison and the last time I was arrested was when I was 14 for Assault self-defense I have a

stable career and three children and soon I'll be a Granddad also it helps to move out of the area I'm from originally story 40 not a teacher but feel like this should be said in third grade I had a teacher who despised me I've no idea why I wasn't poorly behaved or anything one day at the end of the day me and another kid were the last to in the room she told the other boy he needed to start working harder and pay more attention in Class or he would grow up to be a loser

like me right in front of me then one day in sixth grade she changed grade so I had her again I was standing in the lunch line and a kid pushed me joking around I pushed back also joking around she tried to have just me expelled for it then she moved grades again I'm ninth grade and my girlfriend was in her class somehow the teacher found out we were dating and told her to stay away from me because I was the type that would get Her pregnant and leave her I never did anything to this

woman she destroyed my self-confidence through the entirety of my school years and now hey I'm not a dead beat dad I love my kid while I didn't go to college I make a decent living and have been married to the same woman for 20 plus years I didn't turn out the way she thought and I bet plenty don't but a teacher's attitude towards their students can have a profound effect on them story 41 I'm not a Teacher but my Primary School's principal told my parents to not expect much from me on the academic side when

I was about 7 or 8 years old I had a lot of issues as a kid such as undiagnosed ADHD suspicions of having Tourette Syndrome which only turned out to be ADHD and I had a learning disability that mostly came with my then undiagnosed ADHD so from that principal's perspective I wouldn't be able to go far in studies well after Many specialists and medication for my ADHD after many years of struggling with finding the right way for me to study and after many years of redirecting my college studies I finally graduated from University as a

bachelor of Animation specializing in 3D art overall I did three years of study in graphic design two years of General Studies to get my GPA up to acceptance level for University 3 years of Visual Arts studies to get a decent enough art Portfolio and then a 3-year study in University story 42 when we were little my brother's kindergarten teacher told my mom that my brother would never amount to anything and he needed to be in special ed because he was too dumb for regular classes this was early '90s and the lady was old so not

shocked she said that to my mom's face my brother kind of struck struggled through school because he would barely do the work turns out as an adult he was just bored As hell the whole time and he had ASD and was never diagnosed now he has his Masters in Psychology and is planning to continue on a PhD he currently works for MHMR helping kids and people in need to get the mental health services they need story 43 elementary teacher here I had two students sent up in prison one in kindergarten and one from the second

grade they both came from abusive homes and struggled to learn how to read the kindergartener murdered an elderly woman When trying to steal money for drugs the second grader was in special education classes and couldn't read he had a violent temper he ended up in a gang and murdered a man now this was in the 8S so no hope of assistance was available I tried my best to comfort and give these two boys a safe place during the day but they never had a chance teachers dreaded having them in their classroom a loss to generation

due to neglect and generational poverty I know this is Tragic and serious but man I was really confused when op said that the kindergartener murdered an elderly woman while trying to steal money for drugs surely you could have said the kindergartener grew up first right I legitimately did a double take on that line story 44 I worked at an extremely low sces school right out of college I had so many great students but there were a handful of kids I simply couldn't reach one sixth grader was Notorious on Our campus he was in my class

incredibly bright and we had a decent relationship I could tell this kid stood no chance told me him and his dad would trash hotel rooms and other property for fun every other word out of his mouth was a cuss or a slur he never lashed out at me but I would see referrals come through where he would throw desks threaten to hit teachers Etc he was in and out of the alternative campus constantly the summer after his eighth grade year he Passed away circumstances weren't released other than some sort of incident sadly a few years

later I had another student who I could tell was a mess outside of the band hall but he loved saxophone and took a lot of pride in his musicianship he got murdered in an incident at his apartment when he was 15 or 16 wouldn't be surprised if he ended up joining gang after MS I didn't see that one coming that one was really heavy rest easy Demarcus and Juan story 45 I would like to give a big middlefinger to my high school sewing teacher who put me down so badly for the whole year that I

feared sewing machines until my 50s I was always desperately wanting to sew on a machine too I finally mustered up the courage to buy one and take the plunge now I make beautiful purses and quality ragd dolls among other things and take pride I'm self-taught thank you YouTube garbage teacher your abuse only made me more Determined and your words backfired screw you story 46 I had a student who wanted to become a PE teacher during a parent teacher conference I mentioned to the mom that I thought he should change his behavior around women or it

wouldn't be the correct career for him the mom raged out got the principal involved threatened a lawsuit contacted the board his brother also wanted to be PE teacher but I didn't comment although I knew it wouldn't go well first kid became a PE Teacher committed a crime to a number of his female students and is now on the registry the second was in university and ran a foul of the local Vigilantes Against Child Predators story 47 always love telling this one not my story but my brothers my brother wasn't a great student well not a

bad person just hated school always misbehaved was in detention regularly and got terrible grades one particular teacher who detested him told him verbatim never Going anywhere in life since school he has been incredibly successful and many years later the school inv Ed him to speak the teacher who said that to him still worked at the school years later after parting some words for his success he finished on never let anyone tell you that you're not good enough or can't go anywhere Mr blank over there told me that when I was your age but look where

I've gotten to today he came up to him after speaking and said uh that wasn't Necessary and he replied no Mister what you said to me back then wasn't necessary story 48 my best friend and I were real pieces of work in high school we got into significant legal trouble that resulted in both of us being expelled from the school district we were told by every teacher that if we didn't Shape Up we'd either be dead or in state by 21 best friend who is still my best friend is now a father of three and

the best dad I know he is 10 years Away from enjoying his pension on some beach I ended up lost for a few years enrolled in Community College after watching other friends get locked up for Life transferred to a no-name state school graduated and worked my way into a Consulting role at a big four MBA from an M7 and now a CTO for a big firm ran into one of my old teachers who became the principal for the high school I was kicked out of and he asked me to come back and speak didn't turn

out too bad But there were a lot of close calls over the years story 49 not a teacher but I was homeschooled until 7eventh grade so I didn't have any friends when I started going to public school and also I was really shy this one popular kid was kind of the Class Clown and appeared to be involved in some type of gang activity we were in a large inner city school district we had a couple classes together and he was the first person to go out of their way and talked to me he Called me

his friend and introduced me to other kids I tried out for the track team because of him that year and we were team captains together the following year I remember waiting for a bus with him after practice and he opened up to me about his family life and how he couldn't wait until high school next year because he'd be old enough to get a job and go live with his uncle plus that would mean we would be at the same school again one day we were In our social studies class and he was being particularly

disruptive our teacher got fed up and essentially told him if he keeps going down the path he's on he's going to end up dropping out of school in jail or worse that summer leading up to our freshman year of high school he was shot and his life was taken by one of our classmates that was about 20 years ago but I still think about him from time to time his friendship meant a lot story 50 growing Up all of my teachers treated me like I was going nowhere and constantly accused me of not caring about

school I actually cared a lot but I had developmental disorders that made learning challenging I spent the past 20 years working in special education and I make sure all of my students know that I truly believe in their ability to succeed it's amazing to me how many children in 2024 believe they won't find success in life because of the careless comments made by their Teachers it always surprises me how many teachers are not understanding or accomodating of special learning needs Developmental and intellectual disabilities didn't just appear overnight they were just ignored for a very long

time and it is nice to know that schools are getting a lot better about accommodating these sorts of things the best ways to accommodate them that's still up for debate and being researched but hey at least we're Freaking trying now story 51 not a teacher but I had a great teacher in high school who taught English and approached to this with our whole class he was about to pass back a paper that we had written and he paused he said I don't want any of you to be discouraged by your grades not just in my

class but in any class some people are meant to live a good life digging ditches and having friends and family around them who love and support them others are Meant to be successful lawyers who marry beautiful spouses and have kids they never see until they retire and have to blow their money on buying love and Status live the life you want not the life your grades say you can have apparently there were a lot of ditch diggers in my class story 52 my childhood bully accidentally took his own life a few years ago he was

what you would call a troubled kid I'm not sure of the specifics but he was in foster Care and there was a rumor that his birth mother was drunk most of the pregnancy he was aggressive and lied about everything to make himself look better even though the lies were so absurd no one believed them he bullied other people as well but I was by far his biggest quote unquote enemy The Bullying was mostly physical and belittling the first years but during Secondary School it was only mean comments SL messages online and talking Bad about me

behind my back after he graduated The Bullying stopped and he became friends with a lot of my friends they liked him and he seemed to have changed but I didn't really believe it one day I walked past his workplace and there were lots of police there I figured he'd been caught dealing drugs which I knew he did and went with my day later that evening me and my friends were hanging out and my friend's dad came and told us that my bully had taken His own life earlier that day we were one of the first

people to know and I was the only one in the room who didn't cry we later learned that he'd accidentally hung himself while filming a Tik Tok prank and that dying wasn't his intention story 53 I was the student a very lazy student but intelligent I never applied myself in school and focused on playing football and working out/ partying I still passed with a 3point 2 GPA and then went on to drop Out of college at 21 at 34 I make more than twice the money than all of my teachers at this age or older

and I direct SL manage more people than they ever did book learning is fine and well but strength and leadership are qualities that teachers don't teach you you learn it from yourself and leaders one huge quality I learned and got from playing football was having a motor in football on defense you need to have a motor meaning you churn and fight Forward and never stop chasing the ball carrier or never stop engaging the offensive players never stop until the whistle blows I learn to keep sprinting and fighting even when it's 99% probable that the play

will be over before I'm anywhere near the ball but in those one out of a 100 plays I came from across the field chased someone down were blocked for my teammate and sprung a huge touchdown if everybody did this it could be the difference between winning And losing I applied this to life and it worked out for me I worked my way up the restaurant industry from dishwasher to prep cook to line cook to assistant manager to general manager to kitchen manager to executive chef just hard work and never stopped improving story 54 the metrics

for Success are pretty subjective a lot of people carve out in existence they like that might not even use typical Milestones like degrees titles or money I consider the biggest Measure of success to be resilience a lot of crap will rain down on you over the years how well you can cope with that broken heart that job loss that major illness that divorce Etc successful people tend to adapt and overcome quite a bit and pivot from one path to another to facilitate that also they're children they don't even think for themselves yet your 20s are

used to peel off the onion layers of conditioning and use your own powers of Observation to form a worldview belief system and values all of that will inform what kind of person you become and what you do once you stumble out of Plato's Cave everyone has opportunities for growth and we need to give them the grace and space to do that story 55 I was that kid dropped out of high school then barely finished high school thankfully with a 1.9 GPA was just smoking weed and Other Drugs every day at this point decided to turn

things Around and join the Air Force but unfortunately didn't make it through basic back at Square 1 a friend recommended me to go to college ended up going to a top computer science school and graduated with highest honors and now I work in Silicon Valley I've learned a lot of valuable life lessons the past 5 years from all this for one be patient and understand that setbacks are only setbacks if you let them stay as setbacks story 56 I'm not a teacher But one of the students a lot of teachers thought had potential or whatever

ever pushed to get into AP courses and could show I knew a lot like on tests but didn't get good grades I have some postsecondary education struggling with various debt being used by family because I don't know how to stop it a job that could be decent if I didn't have debt or family relying on me and I don't do well with romantic relationships so sorry various teachers In middle and high school for not living up to the potential op and anyone who is in a position that feels like Ops your life isn't over yet

had a student about 10 years ago who bought into the social media entrepreneur ship fad I don't mean start a business I mean the passive income get rich retire at 30 garbage she bought several mansions on borrowed money no idea how she got the loan by the way maybe her parents with the idea to rent Them out nightly for gatsby-esque parties her social media looked incredible her website looked great and her life looked great how did she do it she would charge $5 to $20,000 a night depending on the mansion and day of week last

I heard she got bad Botox was divorced at 25 bankrupt and I haven't heard anything since story 58 there was a girl in my friend group in high school who barely graduated and I always thought she wouldn't go too far not in a Mean way but more she was a small town girl raised by her grandma with some half siblings and she didn't really have career aspirations so I figured she'd have a kid by 20 and maybe that would be her life and hey nothing wrong with that she ended up getting arrested for muing hard

drugs 4 years after graduation so she kind of did something story 59 as a retired teacher I never had a student I thought would go nowhere I thought some of them would have a hard time if they Didn't change their lazy ways they seem to Revel in and I did think it would be hard for them if they didn't grow up but I'm sure most of them did one super irritating one that I did have had parents who weren't much better he called me though 15 years later to tell me he was successful and had

a lot of money I liveed rrey in his head for 15 years and he had to call and tell me how horrible I was and how much better he is because he makes more money than I will Have ever made and it doesn't sound like he's changed much then then I'm glad he's not on the streets but I wouldn't want him as my nextd door neighbor not to sound like holier than thou but I do feel a bit of pity for people who believe that because they make more money they are more successful than another

person it's just a very narrow view of success I think and unfortunately so there's a lot more to life story 60 I had a science teacher Tell me I wasn't smart enough she was a doctor had her for basic biology which she taught with the same rigor she taught AP Bio my class happened to be full of students who would go onto IVs and are incredibly smart she used to go after me constantly and compare me to them to the point where she announced the class publicly I had the most test corrections to be done

in the class to which I stood up said that's incredibly rude and walked out she was a total Nightmare ruined my year finished the year off by trying to recommend me to a remedial course I was a straight A student that year in every other course now a decade later I have a very well-paying job and graduated both high school and college with academic honors after absolutely screw teachers who refuse to adapt to students needs and who belittle them for not meeting their standards immediately story 61 this is more on the student POV I was

a pot Dealer in high school at the beginning of sophomore year the faculty had called the parents of all of my friends and acquaintances and told them to never let them near me because I was no good and I was only going to end up in prison and they were right shortly after I had gotten into a verbal altercation with a student they searched my car and they found 2 to three gr of weed and arrested me I spent 6 Months of the Year in alternative school then a month in in School suspension I felt

3-month-old son a fiance and a cat and dog named Tim and Kora I have my own home renovation company and one rental property I'm averaging about 50,000 a year which isn't the most but I'm happy and content story 62 I had a classmate in high school who always got in trouble had bad grades was always talking during class the teachers told her multiple times she wouldn't get anywhere in life With her behavior and bad grades we're still friends on Facebook she mov moved to Dubai and works as a broker at a high segment agency she's

in most instances posted that child has long since grown up so they were taught by the silent generation or Boomers makes Me wonder if Gen X and Millennial teachers are more inclusive and less of the pull up those bootstraps mentality with all the modern knowledge about mental health modern medicine diagnosing ADHD early and just people trying to be better humans I just wonder and don't misconstrue this as some generational Attack Just honestly curious if things have changed at all story 67 I'm not a teacher but I was a student that was told I would never

amount to anything During Elementary School I was bullied a lot Middle School was a little bit better but not by much I hated going to school because I was always bullied and made fun of for being so tall I'm a 59 woman no teacher ever had an interest in helping me learn which is fine but I've realized now it's just harder for me to grasp Concepts I need to work a little bit harder I met with student counselors and teachers for help because I wanted to go to college like everyone else they All said that

nowhere and the kids he thought this about truly did go nowhere he does bring up a few of the ones he thought would go nowhere that did succeed and says he's proud of them for changing one of my favorite stories is about one of his students that told him they weren't going to Succeed in life my dad told the student that he wouldn't succeed in University or a cure cancer or whatever but that he was 13 and he knew how to fully disassemble fix and reassemble quads and dirt bikes and my dad considered that is

already succeeding in life that guy is in his 40s now and owns a repair shop where my dad still goes to get his lawn mower and snowblower fixed another favorite happened quite a few times is when he would phone the parents of a Problem kid and they would answer with oh no I'm so sorry what did they do now only for my dad to say they were doing really well that week and he wanted to let the parents know the kid had succeeded in something these parents would be floored they had never received positive feedback

on their kid's behavior only negative more than once the kid would let my dad know he made their parent cry because of this op's Dad sounds like he was one of the best Kinds of teachers always believing that if a kid put the effort in they could make it although op did mention that their dad thought that some kids weren't going to make it but I'll disregard that for now because it sounds like Opie's dad did a lot of good and I feel like there's some details that were missing story 69 when I was like

a kid who was terrible to every teacher his family had money and he felt he could do whatever he wanted he had a lot of followers on the Old Vine app and said he was going to get rich with his videos he even said he'd be able to quote unquote buy and sell me worst part was that his parents would show up and scream at the teacher whenever he got in trouble and no matter What happened it wasn't his fault fast forward 10 years and he now has no money no job and has been arrested

multiple times for assaulting his parents who still let him live there oh you sure showed us Nick you know it's almost funny after so many uplifting stories ending on one that was just so not uplifting it was more like op just being like yeah this kid wasn't going to make it and we were right I hate you weird Vibes to the thread man I mean I Have a tiny little story of my own that's somewhat uplifting so I'll add that in my third year of University actually uh with my focus in acting I had my

Productions that year were trying to get me to be a part of them unfortunately due to rules and the way it worked out I couldn't be but I did a lot of stuff that year and that same year his theater company that he owned went bankrupt so uh I don't know Get bodied dude and now I'm doing this having a great time following my passion and thanks to all of you being pretty successful with it so that's my story if you have your own drop them in the comments as always for now though thank you
