since 2007 I've sold millions of handkerchiefs on my e-commerce store over at bumblebe lens.com and you know what I still find marketing and sales difficult but over that time I've discovered some unconventional growth tricks that I really wish I'd known sooner because they unstick you when you're feeling stuck and they enable you to generate more sales for your Shopify store so today I'm going to share these insights with you we'll break down the specific tactics that I use to attract more visitors enhance customer engagement and significantly lose my sales now the first thing that I
fixed with my Shopify store was that I made my website trustworthy probably the number one question I get asked is how can I convince someone to buy from my Boutique Shopify store when they can just shop on Amazon and the answer is that you have to get people to trust your business to deliver your products as well as Amazon can so pretend that you're shopping on a brand new website that you've never heard of before what is the first thing that you're probably going to do I don't know about you but the first thing that
I always do is for contact information and a physical address if I make a purchase on a Shopify website I want to know that I can get a hold of a human in case anything goes wrong I also look for elements of social proof to make sure that other people have purchased from the store before social proof can be in the form of press mentions reviews testimonials you name it most unsuccessful Shopify store owners simply use the standard template as is and just list their products online and if you do this you will never ever
make any sales now if you look look at my site I list my contact information and store hours in the header of every single page of my site I also clearly indicate free shipping and no hassle Returns on every page as well this allows the customer to instantly feel comfortable buying from my store now to show social proof I have all my press mentions and testimonials front and center on every single page of my website as well and as an extra special touch I also use a small popup that slides up whenever a customer makes
a purchase from our store so here's what you need to realize about Shoppers people are like Lemmings and they won't buy from you unless they know other people are buying too and all these elements make our store feel active and popular now if your store is brand new and you don't have any testimonials yet just give some products to your friends and ask them to leave you a testimonial as a placeholder until you get your own now my next tip is to make sure your customer understands what you sell and why they should buy from
you within the first 5 Seconds of landing on your site I can't tell you how many Shopify stores I've seen that show a random picture on the front page with no action button to make sales you need to pretend your customer has no idea what you sell and that you have to convince them to buy in a matter of seconds so here's what you should do first off eliminate any carousels on your front page carousels are distracting and split tests have shown that rotating images actually reduce your conversion rate instead pick a Great Hero image
of your product and then list your value propositions front and center above the fold of your website for example here is a student that asked me for help to improve his website and at the time he sold special drops that neutralize acid in coffee which is apparently a common problem as you get older the acid in coffee just upsets your stomach so here's what his website looked like before as you can see it's just a random picture of a couple with the words four drops neutralizes acid and coffee but why do I care what's the
product plus there's no call to action I I really don't know where to go next now since he was a student of my class I helped to redesign his entire website to look like this I chose a much better close-up picture of an elderly couple and clearly stated the problem and the solution love the taste of coffee but it utps your stomach cafeo allows you to enjoy a refreshing cup of joe without the side effects big red buy button this is what you have to do with your Shopify store to entice someone to buy by
the way if you're enjoying this video so far make sure you sign up for my free 6-day e-commerce mini course below where I go into e-commerce in much greater depth now the next mistake that I see new Shopify sto owners make is not choosing a complimentary color palette this one's a little harder to explain so I'll just demonstrate what I'm talking about with my own online store over at bumblebe lens.com now on my website I use three main colors the teal color is the background color for the site in yellow I highlight promotions on the
site to my Shoppers and all action buttons are hot pink now I chose hot pink because the color pops off the page and it's very obvious where I want someone to click on every single page of my website I use the same color scheme so the customer is not confused furthermore every single page in my site has only one objective and one objective only and that's to funnel customers towards checkout for example on my front page you'll notice I only have one hot pink button which leads customers to my highest margin products Meanwhile my product
pages have only one button as well the singular goal on all my product pages is to get get someone to add the item to the cart after they add something to their cart they are taken to my shopping cart page now my shopping cart page is one of the few pages on my site that has multiple buttons but I only want the customer to click on the checkout button so guess what that is the only hot pink button on that page now if you adopt a similar color scheme with your site I can almost guarantee
you that your conversion rate will go up remember only one target action per page my next tip for Shopify store owners is to start collecting emails right away today there's so many distractions on your phone like Tik Tok social media and YouTube that it's hard to keep someone on your website in fact the average conversion rate for a Shopify store is only 2% which means that 98% of the customers aren't buying from your site now to improve this number you need a way to get people back on your site and the best way to do
that is through email now if you go to bumblebee ls.com you'll notice that I use a spin towin popup to gather emails even though the spin towin popup has has gotten a bad rap over the years it's still the highest converting email form on my site people just love to play games and customers happily give their email for a chance to win something for free now on my wheel every spot is a winner and when someone wins I actually make them redeem their prize by subscribing Via SMS as well and here's how it works someone
spins the wheel and wins the prize then they click on the link to redeem the prize and the messaging app on their phone pops up with a pre-populated message then they hit send and instantly become a text message subscriber finally they sent their coupon code via text to complete the transaction in this way I get both an email and an SMS number once I have their email is when the fund starts I run three automated campaigns that generate nearly 12% of my revenue on autopilot the first sequence is an abandoned card sequence basically if a
customer so much as looks at a product in my store and doesn't buy anything they get sent an email to remind them to complete their purchase and here's what the email looks like basically it has a link that takes a customer directly to check out with all the items pre-populated in their cart and the email also shows you photos of what's in their cart as well this one sequence allows me to recover about 19% of my lost sales I also have a pre- purchase sequence in place to nurture the customer along and here's what you
need to realize about online Shoppers they might not be ready to buy right this second but when they are ready to buy you want them to be thinking about your store my pre purchase email sequence contacts my customer at least once per week on autopilot and here are the types of emails that I send my first email is always the prize of the coupon code that I promised from the Spin to Win popup my second email talks about our value propositions and why they should buy from us my third email highlights some of our bestselling
products my fourth email highlights any press mentions and testimonials for our business and my fifth email tells customers to follow us on social media for additional promotions both of these emails sequences are set it and forget it and make me money on autopilot so make sure you implement email marketing and send email at least once per week and overall email marketing makes up about 30% of my sales now my final tip that will make your Shopify store better than 99% of the competition is to appeal to the emotions of your customer here's the thing about
e-commerce that you must realize everything that is sold online is a commodity and finding a completely new and novel product to sell is rare and the truth is is that most people make purchases based on emotion and not Logic for example I recently bought a t-shirt from True classic te's for 25 bucks and this was literally a plain black T-shirt with no design if I were to look on Teemu or AliExpress or Amazon I could easily buy a plain black t-shirt for as little as five bucks but why did I buy from True classic te's
it's because I saw an ad on Facebook that convinced me that I would look more buff wearing it now this ad was ingenious and really appeal to my desire to look better because let's face it I'm getting older and more out of shape so I made an emotional purchase anyway my point here is that you should sell based on emotions and there are eight primary emotions that you can appeal to survival enjoyment of life life extension any product that appeals to the basic human instinct to survive and the desire to enjoy life and extend one's
lifespan is an easy sell enjoyment of food and beverages any product that appeals to the basic and pleasurable needs for nourishment and enjoyment through food and drink often triggers The Bu impulse Freedom From Fear pain and danger any product that appeals to the need for Safety and Security is an easy sell sexual companionship any product that appeals to attracting the opposite sex comfortable living conditions any product that improves living conditions is more likely to sell to be superior winning Keeping Up With the Jones any product that allows you to be recognized as Superior or successful
in Social contexts care and protection of loved ones any product that allows you to care for and protect your family members and finally there's social approval any product that makes you look better period now if you follow all these tips I can guarantee you that you'll be more successful than 99% of the Shopify stores out there and make over a million dollars per year but what do you think have you tried any of these strategies before and do you have any to add now that you understand some of the basic strategies make sure you watch
