my disability is not someone's read in this is what I love with on a daily basis and it shouldn't just be a we fellow front character storyline when it comes to autism want my cells that tends to be these kind of tropes that it falls into there's it's usually a gay they're usually an expert with maths or science and it's so much more calm here in these kind of stereotypes watching shores the only seizure that you see as a tonic-clonic will in fact there is over forty different tapes I've actually had one time someone say
that I'm faking it because as I said they've seen on different shows and they cannot just dismiss the fact that actually had one representation matters because there's been so many studies that she'll walk kind of we grew up well phase children and become adults where they came from so we filled out yourself and walk with Demers can a normal walk redeem is good and when you don't see someone like yourself it can be incredibly damaging tears a person a lot of the representation is played by able-bodied actors there was a character and their soap neighbors
that was completely completely blamed and I fought for the first time I was being represented in a mainstream soap opera but a year later that actress turns up fully sighted familiar able-bodied I have a meeting a little different I mean the whole ethos of the film SSI it's almost as good idea that only everybody to another typical people can kind of faked being disabled the something almost can I admirable but the leash you get celebrated disabled I sounds like just for a reason and they can say I'm from Des Moines it's like job disabled stories
need to be told and someone who hasn't disabled they're not gonna get the full story I think media is a powerful thing that sometimes I think we take for granted and I think if you're going to use disabilities as someone's doily make sure you do it right because you can cause a big misconception about or fault get the wrong information in a script as it would bodied and to see without the content and they're perfect for the rule it should be about the talent and the actor and your skill not not no disability disabled create
a shield filmmakers and actors and out they need to have a voice because their voice has been ignored so long for these tiny slivers of representation that just aren't the full picture it's time for change including that okay I think that and media and and film they focus on the disability they should be focusing on the person like it always a big thing we are in my life my disability I try and make it a secondary I am NOT my disability I'm a person I think it's important for disabilities to be represented in film and
TVs because it's a great way of losing awareness and make it clear hey there's different disabilities out there let's give them a space to talk about it and retreat in an accurate way because it can help people and give people reassurance if the character can do it and why the hell can I not do a few of trying to portray often that is about human experience then it has to be about the diversity that makes humanity humanity and what's the point and doing a film did a TV show if you're just gonna tell the same
stories over and over again there's so many different ways to be a person and TV and film are really mastered I own caption that and it's it's they're lost no honest I said TV and film have a water flea everybody's unique American all pillow and the broadcasting of the Perlman TV [Music]
