we've gone plaid speed um so uh you what we really wanted to achieve here is like well why you know why make this really fast car that's crazy fast and everything and I I think there there is something if that's quite important um to the future of sustainable energy Elon Musk is up to something again and this time the entire EV industry could be in trouble with Tesla Elon Musk always has something going on but one thing is sure the car industry has never been able to predict his next move and that is not about
to change anytime soon this time he shocked the whole world with the announcement of an engine type that no electric car on Earth has ever used uh now with the with plaid we we've managed to break the uh the 2cond barrier if you will the no production car has ever uh done 0 to 60 in under 2 seconds in fact this new engine is so spectacular that it got Tesla's competitors in an uproar even before it was released what's Elon really up to this time and what's the new engine all about let's dig in as
Elon Musk reveals this new engine that will destroy the entire EV industry carbon wrapped motor there are no arguments about the fact that the Auto industry remains one of the most competitive in the world and since the Inception of electric vehicles the EV industry has taken a special place on the competition table however with new brands showing up here and there and cooking new models and car features every now and then Elon musk's Tesla has proven to be the king of EVS not only because Tesla is the most popular EV but because the brand doesn't
sleep when it comes to new ideas and when it comes to these new ideas everyone knows Tesla for one thing coming up with new innovations that the minds of their competitors will never be able to conceive not just that Tesla manages to get their competitors on their feet with every new invention and guess what Elon Musk has done it again but this time the idea will not just get the industry Giants on their feet it will shatter the whole EV industry recently Elon Musk has just announced the release of a new car model the Tesla
Model S plaid and the mindblowing thing about this new baby is that it came with a brand new engine which has never been seen in any electric vehicle in the world Elon Musk described the Tesla Model S pla as the most advanced car on Earth and that's because of one superpower the carbon WRA motor however he would sound like he was just bluffing until the whole world gets to see the awesomeness of the new engine trust me just at the thought of the time and effort Tesla had to put in to finally bring the carbon
wrapped motor idea to life you would find yourself doing your hat already according to Elon musk's statement on the XA explaining how the motor was made he said fiber was wound over the road at a really high tension load but as simple as that sounded Tesla had to specially create a machine to get the job done yeah you heard that right imagine conceiving an idea that is so new you have to first build a machine before you can bring the Innovation to life well it all sounds cool now but things weren't so Rosy at first
due to the difference in thermal expansion between the carbon sleeve and the copper rotor the first setback was wrapping the carbon such that it won't loosen at high temperature however after months and months of going back and forth Tesla came up with a brand new technique to make it happen but because it required a whole new technique which Tesla just dug out of its innovative developers they did not find an existing machine that could wind carbon and copper at high tension that explains why they had to create one and of course that's some bragging rights
for Elon Musk I mean it makes it very obvious that Tesla is the first to ever do it and when you hear that the engine has never been used by any electric vehicle you can be sure that it's 100% true don't get it twisted guys carbon fiber wrappings have been around for quite a while and they have been used in turbos compressors and many other highspeed machines however Tesla shows the Auto industry what's possible by taking it up a notch C if not for Tesla not a lot of car manufacturers would have imagined the possibility
of adopting the engine in cars let alone feature it in an electric vehicle now that's what the whole hype is all about the fact the motor was first known to be a major part of high-speed Machinery but Elon Musk was smart enough to think of the advantages it could add to electric vehicles and he chose to go for it without being bothered by the years of work that may go into making it fit for an electric car that's quite laudable if you ask me speaking of the work that went into making the motor fit for
an electric car one of the major challenges would be the permanent magnet which sits right on top of the motor because the motor spins at very high speed it becomes very important to hold the magnet in place and keep it from slipping out or falling away causing major damage to the motor so to tackle this setback Tesla had to enclose the motor in a thin walled cylinder but that was where things got a little tricky in finding a solution to that problem Tesla created another one the developers had to choose the right material for the
cylinder of course the cylinder could have been made with many materials and you can't really say that one material is the best of them all but many of the materials could be a problem since the engine was to be used in an electric car the first options on the list were non-magnetic metal sleeves like Titanium or inconel and they seemed like the best options at first they are really strong and durable and their thermal expansion rate is very similar to that of the entire motor this explains why the non-magnetic metal sleeves remained a favorite in
the Auto industry for years however there's a big problem with that they are definitely not the perfect matches for electric vehicles when you take a peep into the previous knowledge of science you should recall that metals are listed as some of the best conductors of electricity so you know what that means the electric currents could get caught and induced in the metal sleeves and this would lead to some major energy loss in the electric vehicles with these metal sleeve cylinders the Tesla batteries could literally get drained in just a few hours on the road and
that that sure doesn't sound good in fact these metal sleeve cylinders would do more harm to the EV than any good and they most definitely reduce the efficiency of the car they also make it difficult to manage the thermal system of the rotor and this sets the entire motor up for damage these and many other issues with the metal sleeves are enough reasons to look for a better alternative and that's where the carbon fiber sleeves come in unlike the problematic metal sleeves carbon is a very poor conductor of electricity and this makes it the best
option for electric vehicles using carbon fiber sleeves for the cylinders meant two things or more first the motor will be free from any electrical energy losses and secondly this will directly boost the car's efficiency sounds good huh but unfortunately the problem hasn't ended just yet Tesla discovered a little bit of a problem with the carbon sleeves as well and that's the fact that carbon doesn't have any ability to expand in the presence of heat now that may sound like bad news because every part of the motor expands at high temperature this means that when the
other parts of the motor expands and the carbon doesn't the carbon fiber sleeves experience some kind of stress which can weaken the carbon fiber and cause damage to the motor okay no stress guys trust Tesla to always bring the aame the developers found a way around this problem and Elon Musk even explained the solution to the problem in a recent tweet according to him the carbon wrapping actually solves the problem by winding the carbon fiber over the Rotor at high tension the carbon fiber has an increased ability to withstand the stretching force that comes from
the thermal expansion of the rest of the motor and I guess that answers the questions advantages of the new motor now that's so much talk about the work done on the motor and that brings us to the best part of the whole thing what good lies in this new motor maybe you would be able to guess some of them by now but the advantages of this new carbon wrapped motor are actually more than you can probably imagine obviously the carbon wrapped motor is Worlds Apart from the conventional engine types and it takes an entirely different
approach first since there are no metal Bridges and it mainly uses the carbon fiber sleeves to hold the motor in place the engine gets rid of any leakage flux path if that sounds like a lot of mechanical jargon what it means is that the motor is able to spin at an extremely higher rate compared to other engine types also the carbon wrapped motor can create stronger electromagnetic fields than other motor types that are wrapped with non-magnetic metal sleeves like titanium in a tweet he made on the X app Elon Musk himself revealed this when he
wrote that the main advantage of the motor is a much stronger electromagnetic field compared to a motor that is held together by metal or high strength steel the beautiful thing is that this will definitely take the speed of the vehicle from zero to a million for context the Tesla Model S plaid which was used to introduce the carbon wrapped motor can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.99 seconds how crazy is that I mean the car can literally zoom off before you even get enough time to catch your breath so when Elon Musk
calls the motor a road Beast I guess there are really no grounds for arguments also using the carbon fiber sleeves the carbon wrapped motor prevents the copper rotor from expanding due to radial acceleration and that is another fact from the horse's mouth as well Elon Musk stated that another advantage of the motor is that it can go to higher RPM as the carbon sleeve stops the copper rotor from expanding during acceleration now what value does this add to your Tesla engine a longer lifespan of course with the carbon sleeve pampering the copper rotor and keeping
it from unnecessary expansions the motor's shelf life increas increases and you can enjoy your Tesla for as long as you want now you see why the entire EV industry is in trouble Tesla's competitors are not even blind to this truth and everyone knows that Elon musk's new invention could mean that their days in the EV Market are numbered they know that anyone would love a motor that promises to last for as long as they can imagine especially when it comes with maximum efficiency and speed Tesla's new carbon wrapped motor is that sweetie all right now
that Elon Musk has successfully wowed us with this new motor type it is your turn to tell us what you think about the carbon wrapped motor do you think it is really worth the hype would you say that it is actually the end of the EV industry let us know what you think about this new invention in the comments section below if you have any questions about the new motor you can ask us in the comments as well
