Welcome all the poorest countries of America and to the most dangerous country! Haiti! All those at the airport whom we told that we'll go to Haiti asked why we're going there & if we're going to die there.
Can see so much poverty on both sides of the road. The guard locked the door so that no one comes in from outside as people were coming and troubling. This is an ATM but not working and people at money exchange have also gone as no international fight will come.
Welcome you all to a new video! It's 6 am right now and I am in Nassau, capital of Bahamas. I'm leaving from the hotel we were staying at and going towards the airport.
Airport is roughly 2. 5-3 km and Google Maps shows a 38 minute walk. Its not a straight simple walk but has some slope and steep patch too.
I've the beach in front of me. It's dark right now. Sunrise will happen in 30-45 minutes by the time we reach the airport.
Today I'm going to Haiti which is another country. . .
Haiti & Dominican Republic share borders with each other and lies in the Hispaniola island which is the biggest island after Cuba in the West Indies. We spent 2 days here in Bahamas. Taxis and everything is very costly here We could have taken a taxi but we thought to walk with our bags instead.
We've our flight in exactly 2 hours from now but its not crowded here at airports. So we'll reach in 30-45 minutes and then board the flight. This is the road & on my right is the ocean.
It has beautiful views but it's dark right now. The ocean is very beautiful here. After walking for almost half an hour we've reached the airport.
I'm very close to the airport & I'm at the airport road. Google maps was showing 38 minutes but I came within 28-29 minutes only Navankur is also coming & should be somewhere behind. Let's go & check-in at the airport.
This is the airport. This gate just for those going to America. Departures!
But our flight isn't to America hence we've a separate departure. Even if you've to go for 1 km minimum taxi price is 24$ exclusive of 1$ airport use fees. Hence 25$ even if you've to go for a km.
Let's leave for the next destination. Haiti is considered to a very dangerous country! See at the complete end of the airport there's international departures separately.
Hence, all American departures one side and departures for the rest of the world on the other. We've to go here. Honestly I don't even know which is the airline or flight as Navankur does all the bookings I just ask when we've to leave and reach.
Have to do it alone always but I get relaxed as he does it. This is the airline: Inter Caribbean! The good thing is the airport & check-in counter is empty here.
There was no problem coming late too We just came & there're just 2 people ahead of us. So check-in got done smoothly and they just asked of the leaving flights I showed we'll go to Dominican Republic by crossing land borders. We don't have flights from Haiti so asked to show proof of leaving the country.
Then I've a flight from Dominican . . .
have a flight from Dominican to Colombia and I've booked a flight from there to India just to show I'll be going to India. But they didn't ask for it. They can ask ahead in immigration.
We've a 2 hour layover in Turks & Caicos which is a British territory, right? Yes And. .
. interestingly that's visa free for us. If not.
. . because we've to clear immigration there too.
They've given immigration card. But by chance it wasn't visa free then we would have been stuck there. We Indians can visit only some countries visa free.
Although its a British territory but can't be called UK as its far away from it. Have checked in the bags! Got free from the 25.
5 kg bags and just left with this of 7. 5 kg. There was 3 magnets from Jamaica in my bag I usually keep them in the big bag but kept it in this time time.
So the security scanner got triggered that there're magnets or something so they stopped the bag. But the airport staff was great here. They opened the bag themselves, took out the magnet, scanned the bag again, kept the magnet & packed the bag Kept it as it is and told me to not worry about it as they'll do it.
So the staff at security was very respectful. Gate number wasn't written on boarding pass and neither the airline staff told us. This is ours!
Providenciales at 8:15 by Inter Caribbean 271! Gate A7! Let's go!
See the airport is completely empty! We've our gate somewhere here only. No one can be seen.
Just a handful of people. Boarding hasn't started yet like we . .
. Abandoned airport! 2 hours.
. . We left from hostel 2 hours before the flight time.
Yes! We're here at airport boarding gate but boarding hasn't started yet even when we walked here for half an hour. Amazing!
We're here at the boarding gate and its a small plane. See its standing there! I think there're just 16-17 passengers.
It's an 80 passenger plane as Navankur told. Let's go to the boarding. Everyone was standing properly in queues even the local blacks.
A foreigner came & stood in between. We assume they're civilised and all but they don't care. Everyone was in queue & he just came in between.
Okay perfect! Thank you. Its a very small plane.
Have said 10-15 so I'll sit on 11. 10 to 13! They've kept the luggage at front & made passengers sit at the remaining portion in order to maintain balance and weight distribution happens smoothly.
So made half sit here & half there at the window side Luggage at the front & passengers at the back. This is the immigration form for Turks & Caicos island that we've to fill & submit there. Its so chilly here in the flight and feels as if I'm in Antarctica.
The AC is so high! I thought I'll fill this as I'm sitting idle I feel sleepy but can't because it's so cold here. Landed safely here Its 9:41 am right now and our next flight is at 11:45 to Haiti from Turks & Caicos island.
We'll go out for a while. We already have the boarding pass. We can go out for 1 hour 15 minutes.
There was a transit option there for transit passengers hence we came here. But these are boarding gates here again for the next flight. We came at the airport & we first asked if we can go out So, all of them said.
. . we even asked the crew, they agreed and said we can go out from the gate at transit.
We asked here again & she said to exit from here. As we were crossing the security gate to go out they said our boarding pass states in transit hence we can't go out & have to stay at the airport only. Anyways there's no other solution will stay at the airport.
This is a 40 islands group called Turks and Caicos islands. It lies in Northern West Indies in the North Atlantic Ocean. If we talk of the country then it lies in United Kingdom.
It is an overseas British territory. The people here would have Britain passport, right? Yeah!
Hence the nationality of all the people here is British. Although, Britain and this country in West Indies is far away. Their capital is Cockburn Town which has an area of just 17 sq km.
So you can think how small it is. Just 3700 people live there. Cockburn Town lies below Turks and Caicos in the south east.
But the place where we're in is Providenciales also called Provo. This lies in the north west which is very far not far though since its a small country. But lies just opposite to Cockburn Town.
Providenciales is also their largest city and is also called Provo. Provo Island! They drive on left side like in India and United States Dollar is the currency here.
Although its a British territory in the Caribbean the currency is US dollars. We'll wait for our next flight. It's after 2 hours.
Will board that & reach our final destination Haiti! Boarding has started and its 11:23 right now. The flight leaves at 11:45 hence we have 22 minutes.
Its the same plane and have to board it again. Bags are kept there. They're our bags!
One's mine, the other's Navankur's don't know about the third one. Everyone on the plane are speaking French Hence they're people from Haiti. Although their official language is French & Asian Creole which is the creole from there.
It's basically French based Creole because it was a French colony. Hence, they all speak French. It feels as if I am in fair and sitting on a ride.
Everyone is riding it! The plane has been moving so much & the people are like this. Shouting!
Shouting at the smallest of things ! Shout dude! We'll also shout like everyone is shouting.
Again - again. . .
fly the plane again! One more landing! It'll be fun.
Welcome to the poorest country of America! Oh man! Super hot!
Its super hot! Suddenly came out of the AC felt super hot. This is the airport.
And this is Arrivals. It's just this much. Have to go there.
There were hills Enroute. Saw them while landing. Immigration got done & they have baggage area here.
Your. . .
mine is also here. They're kept here! Took out clothes!
This is their baggage belt. Your bag has been opened? This is my bag!
The easiest immigration so far and didn't ask anything about where're staying and all. Will tell you! Let me get the bag.
We've crossed customs, immigration & baggage and are now sitting outside at the airpot. These are the only 4 chairs in the entire airport. Its very small with just money exchange & an ATM that's not working.
A man approached us as we came outside offering us his taxi service and all. We asked how much he'll charge and he said 100$. Hence, 8500 INR from here to the city which is 6 km.
I denied instantly. Then he offered to take us in 70$ like in every country . .
. how it happens in poor country. We denied for 70$ too.
The accommodation we booked through Airbnb got cancelled. Not sure if host did it or the Airbnb. We didn't get an email or anything.
Didn't get its refund too. Although its to think about later but we don't have a place to stay right now. We're finding some other accommodation & checking the internet of public transportation here.
70$. . .
we won't be paying that much. The capital of Haiti is Port-au-Prince but we're in Cap-Haïtien which is also a big city. And.
. . if we talk of Haiti then its the poorest country in America but also the third largest Caribbean country.
The biggest is Cuba while Dominican Republic stands second and Haiti is on the third. If we only talk of Hispaniola then it is an island which is biggest after Cuba and is divided into Haiti & Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is slightly bigger than Haiti.
Hence Dominican Republic ranks second and Haiti at third. If we talk of islands then the island on which Haiti lies is the second largest in the Caribbean after Cuba. It also has a territory in the south west called Navassa which is claimed by Haiti as theirs and US claims it as theirs.
It's a disputed territory. The area is 28,000 sq km and I already told that its the third largest country in the Caribbean. Their population is slightly more than 1 crores which makes it the most populous country in the Caribbean.
Maybe this is a reason of the poverty here. We'll talk about this ahead in the video until then we'll find a solution to taxi and our hotel. Our taxi is already coming.
Its on the way! Okay With the hotel. Okay!
Yeah! Just came out of the airport and people surround instantly after coming out asking if we want a taxi for here & there. Like this man approached me!
But someone from the hotel we booked is coming They've sent their driver and he's on the way! And I'll tell you because no one comes here as the crime rate is so high and I think no business runs smoothy here. Maybe due to this there aren't any hotels here and just a handful of them as no traveler comes.
The hotel we booked is the cheapest one of this city. Its cost is 5500-6000 INR (72$) for a night We've booked it for 2 nights for 11500 INR (133. 04$).
Even when we've booked the cheapest one so you can see how expensive everything is. Its because no one comes here due to the high number of crimes here and is not that safe for travellers. The flight we came in was the last one & was the only international flight.
Domestic flights will come from their capital city Port-au-Prince. They could see we're tourists so wanted to scam. We booked hotels from Airbnb that they cancelled due to some reason.
We booked one by finding from the internet & asked the hotel if they have airport pickup in the stated price. They denied and told they charge 20$ separately for that. I then asked them to send the car quickly.
ad we'll pay 20$. The hotel staff told high price on WhatsApp but then as I booked it from an online site it got booked for 11500 INR (133. 04$).
This was the cheapest one on the website. If you book directly from the hotel then cost for one night was 105$ for their cheapest room. Hence, 17-18K INR for 2 nights.
Anyways, I am waiting now and I am not going too far away because its the first day in this country & have no clue on the surroundings. Will also record basis that then. People are making a lot of noise nearby and are shouting for no reason & doing something.
They speak very loudly. This is an ATM that's not working and money exchange staff has also gone because no other international flight will come. Everything is closed.
The guard locked the gate so that someone doesn't come in from outside as they were coming again & again and troubling us. Rest as we got off the plane and walked towards the immigration airport staff from far off recognised that we are not locals but tourists. So they asked to stand in another queue.
There was no one before us in that queue and no one came after us in the tourist queue. It's because they know tourists don't come here. There was a staff of just 4-5 people who were doing everything.
A lady did our immigration . . .
there's a tourist arrival fees of 10$ per person so we paid 20$ for both of us. That lady took the fees & then she did baggage checking after immigration. No one came after us.
They knew as they didn't check our bags properly and let us go. They know tourists don't come here so avoid troubling them. Even the staff is leaving now.
Everything is shut & we're the only ones waiting for the driver. 95% are blacks & rest 4-5% are mixed or whites. Mostly people are these only.
Currency is Haitian Gourde here. 1 US dollar has roughly 150 Haitian Gourde or maybe little more than that. The conversion is almost same as Jamaican currency.
1 INR has 1. 8 Haitian Gourde. Everyone here speaks French.
I didn't find anyone speaking English. Taxi drivers do speak English for the fixed lines they have! 'We'll take you.
' 'How much will you give? ' 'Will take in this much. ' Their GDP is even less than 2000$.
. . per capita.
So there's a lot of unemployment, corruption among the government, and political instability. Education is less, infrastructure is poor, health care is not good and due to this unemployment is quite high. The people of Haiti emigrate a lot and want to move out of the country.
I am showing you this through the airport glass. . .
Shops outside from this window. All the shops have so much protection and fencing. It could be because of thefts happening here.
This is still a safe area. Can you believe this is outside the airport. Right outside the airport.
This is the airport gate and these are the shops outside. See how. .
. Car Rent. .
. this is a car rental but see this is covid 19 testing centre maybe. This also has a lot of fencing and protection.
Express car rental! Avis, car rental is also here. See this is completely covered with fencing.
This gives an idea about how safe or dangerous a country is. I figure it out this way. As you can see everything has so much fencing, security and all.
Think guard has to lock airport arrival again & again. Like if someone is leaving the lock will be opened and then they'll go out. Can you think this happening at an airport in a country.
Like it feels so weird! He has locked it again so that no one else comes or so that theft doesn't happen. A car has come outside!
They said that the driver would be wearing hotel tshirt. Hotel staff has messaged that the driver's standing outside the gate. AC was there!
Yes, AC is there and our hotel doesn't have it right? Can you please. .
. Yeah! Thank you!
Merci! (thank you) Do you see the driver? Is he the one?
I think he was the one in the black car. Hey man! Hello!
Bonjour! Hotel habitatias. .
. Yes, I read! Okay perfect!
Its not compulsory that everyone will be bad if its poor & dangerous country . . .
Thank you so much! Not necessary that everyone's bad like you see in Somalia it is a dangerous country but people were so nice. You saw in Syria I haven't seen people like them anywhere.
So, this is not necessary that if the country is poor or dangerous then every other person is bad. In fact, you'll find amazing people in such countries. So let's see how our experience and the journey goes.
Gamesy! Nice to meet you. You speak French?
Uhm. . .
Creole? Creole! Ahn okay!
So they have two official languages French & Haitian Creole. Meaning. .
. Okay! So he's saying he only speaks French & Creole.
Locals speak in Creole only. Their Creole is obviously French based. There's English based too Ss in Caribbean islands like Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, etc have their own Creole.
So that's English based. . .
and if you don't know then Creole is basally broken English. After coming out from the airport it feels as if we'e come to a village. Can clearly see poverty!
You can see in the entire America Caribbean, North America, South America, this is the poorest. Can see that! I've travelled most of North America till now.
Have travlled Caribbean entirely. Can see poverty evidently in this country and North America entirely is an expensive continent. If you earn twice or thrice from India, it's less for the continent but the earning is less than India too here.
You can imagine how they sustain. This is my 54th country and I've travelled so much that I don't find anything different in a new country. We still try to show something extra on the camera that we would have found unique but otherwise nothing seems too unique as we've traveled so many countries.
Each country looks somewhat similar to other. In this country I feel I haven't seen anything like this before. Its very different!
Autos are running like in India with poverty and dirt all around. This place is different! Ocean is on this side but we can't open the car windows otherwise I would've shown.
There is a lot of garbage before the ocean on the road. And. .
. these are some views. Look at the front!
Can see so much poverty on both sides of the road. And every other person on the airport whom we told we'll go to Haiti everyone including the airport staff asked why we're going there & if we're going to die there. We're very near to the hotel.
Although its a village. . .
but can't call it village as the entire city is like this only. Found everything like this from the airport until now. And here.
. . the hotel location seemed fine from the photos but its somewhere here.
Paid 20$ for this. . .
Here? Yeah! It costed us 20$ till here from the airport which is 1700 INR.
Even though it was just 4 kms. Where will he take the car? We've left the hotel behind.
Is he taking from another gate? No, no there was an arrow showing this route. Okay, so he was showing we're going right.
He first showed us the hotel arrow so that we don't feel he is taking us somewhere wrong because you can see how the lanes are. It's hilly too. This is the hotel.
Finally! This gate. .
. the slope The system is quite weird. Going down from here is quite difficult.
Yes If we go down they'll find us as a prey to rob. Yes, its in sort of a village. It is a village.
Because no one comes here and no tourists would walk but rather take a car. If someone comes too. This driver also thinks we're some big businessmen as no tourists come here.
But he doesn't know we're also like this only. Its heavy! He picked them.
It's in their genetics. He showed first that he's taking us in the right direction and showed the hotel's arrow. Hotel is great but!
See! Can see the city from here and here's the bar. And.
. . this is the reception.
The hotel is great. Money is also nice then. They're charging also accordingly but this is the cheapest hotel in the country.
So after a lot of confusion finally got done because they weren't getting our booking as we didn't book directly. So they kept on finding and it wasn't showing on their system because no one comes here & who would book. and if someone does they would book directly.
Although hostel ones is used y travellers only. But we booked it for quite cheap and they were also shocked on how we booked it for so cheap because they had not updated the price on that website. If we booked from here in the cost for one night from here we booked for 2 nights from there.
We've also got 30$ currency exchanged to Haitian Gourde and paid the 20$ for the taxi. Gave a total of 50$. I paid 110$ from the card too.
Then 19$ got deducted from it for some hotel deposit. So we booked for 2 nights in 130$ for 2 people with breakfast included. So, they got shocked and the hotel is quite nice.
The rate is quite nice as compared to others here. This is the currency here Haitian Gourde. This is a 50 note.
Hence, 30 INR. This is 30. .
. so we've to take 50 more later on as they don't have it now. Let's go to the room.
We've got the room keys and our room number is 15. And see its quite nice I showed you how Haiti is while we were out. Poor and full of garbage!
But the hotel is quite nice. And we got it for very cheap although the view from here is of the slums but can also see the beautiful ocean. We'll go & rest for a while will explore the city tomorrow and we might stay here the day after too to go and see out properly.
Will see what all we do! I asked them if it's safe to go out and walk on the streets. They said yes but to only take care of the phone and I told them we'll walk with phones in hand.
Just said to be cautious so that no one snatches it. I even asked about kidnapping and all as kidnapping of tourists is very common in such countries especially West Africa. And I just asked them rest we've traveled so many countries that we know this much & have the knowledge of what to do & what not.
We aren't that foolish. But there's no harm in asking so they said its safe in this area rest of the parts are still dangerous. its safe here.
Will go and keep our bags & rest. We can see the terrace of the houses from here This is a Goat. And their currency before 2021 was for 1 USD equals 60 Haitian Gourde which is now even more than 150.
Their currency fell down more than 2. 5 times within the last 2 years. Hence their economy.
. . basically deflation is quite high here.
But anyways I liked the country. Don't feel like leaving instantly. Nothing like that!
People felt friendly till now. There's poverty but what can we do about it. Will explore later on, let's rest for now.
Have come up towards the room. Our room number is 15. I think Navankur has already come.
Oh it's quite huge! There's AC too in it. This is their menu.
Rates if you see. . .
everything is in French. Not in English since no English speaking comes. Its cheap as compared to other countries but obviously expensive than India.
It's in US dollars. So, you can multiply by 85. This is for 850 INR.
But some things are cheap too for 5-7$. Like if you see hamburger is for 7$ (500 INR). which is not that expensive because the countries we're at in North America is quite expensive.
It'll be cheap in India but is not that expensive basis the country we're in. This is a 4 star expensive hotel. Thank you!
This is my chicken sandwich for 7$ or 550 INR. And this is spaghetti for 6$ or 500 INR. Let's eat now.
