in this video I'm going to reveal some of the best proven alternatives to statins and how you can safely use them to lower your cholesterol and later I'll also tell you about the real cause of your high cholesterol and how you can lower it naturally statins are the most prescribed group of drugs in the whole world so if they're so tried and tested why would you be looking for Alternatives well from personal experience I've had patients who took statins for years and had absolutely no problems with them at all but I've also had patients who
couldn't tolerate statins at all some would leave the house in the morning for their usual morning walk and have to take a taxi because they didn't have the strength to go back home and then there are the ones who had muscle pain that was so bad even on Lower doses of statins and had to stop taking them all together so I'm going to talk about several alternatives to statins but I'll start with the two that I recommend most often and you might ask then why bother talking about the others I'll get to that later so
the first one I'm going to talk about is Bergamot Bergamot is a citrus fruit it's like a blend between a lemon and an orange and it grows in Italy so when you do a blood cholesterol test or a lipid panel it's basically looking at the levels of different types of fat in your blood the results will give you the levels for total cholesterol triglycerides LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol so you want your triglycerides to be low your LDL cholesterol to be low you can see L and L and you want your HDL cholesterol to be
high again H and H Bergamot can lower your LDL cholesterol by about 30 % and it can also increase your HDL cholesterol the great thing about Bergamot is that the way it works is different from the way statins work so that means that if you had a lot of side effects from statins or you tried them and they didn't work for you bergamots might be a useful alternative side effects from bergamots are usually quite mild things like a bit of nausea or um stomach discomfort but one important thing to note is that it can lower
your blood sugar and this is important if you're already taking medicine that lowers your blood sugar the doses used in studies range from 500 to 1,000 MGR a day and you may see results within 1 month but it may take up to 6 months to get the full benefits moving on this next alternative is one of my favorites because it works on many different systems in the body at the same time and I'm talking about berberine berberine is a natural substance that's extracted from plants like European Burber berberine stops your body from absorbing the fats
in the food that you eat and it also helps your body to burn the fat that you already have stored just like Bergamot berberine Works in a way that's different from the way statins work so again you may be able to use it in place of statins some people actually combine it with statins so that when you take berberine then you can take a lower dose of the statins so that you get fewer side effects as an added bonus Bine can also reduce your blood sugar and your blood pressure so if berberine is so wonderful
why would you think about taking anything else the answer to that question is side effects apparently some people have ended up in the emergency room after taking berberine some of the side effects include nausea vomiting diarrhea and constipation bloating gas stomach pain and drowsiness the higher the dose of bourine you're taking the more likely you are to have side effects and you can reduce a lot of the side effects from berberine by taking it with food the problem with supplements is that they're not regulated the way drugs are are so if you take berberine and
it doesn't work for you or you have serious side effects you have to ask a couple of questions first of all do the capsules actually contain any berberine at all and if they do do they contain the amount of berberine as advertised by the manufacturer and three are they contaminated do they contain poisons that shouldn't be there the effects of berberine can be quite powerful so you have to be careful if you're taking it with things like Arginine and stinging nettle for high blood pressure garlic ginen or Ginger which affect blood clotting valaran and melatonin
which cause drowsiness and bitter melon and cinnamon which can affect your blood sugar Bine is a bright yellow powder that's extremely bitter you usually find it in capsules of about 500 mg each and the dosage that was used in most IES is 500 mg of berberine hydrochloride three times a day closely related to berberine is simarine and I'll tell you how they're connected in a moment but simarine is actually extracted from a herb called milk thistle it's commonly used as a treatment for liver problems like fat liver or hepatitis that's inflammation of the liver because
it's anti-inflammatory and it functions as an antioxidant simarine can lower cholesterol in people with type 2 diabetes and one possible side effect of statins is problems with the liver taking simarine with statins helps to protect the liver so I talked earlier about a connection between camarine and berberine well when you take them together you get even better results when it comes to lowering cholesterol and also lowering blood sugar and blood pressure just like with Burger mots the side effects of simarine are quite mild usually a little bit of nausea or diarrhea or abdominal discomfort sometimes
headache and occasionally skin rash the usual dose for simarine is 140 mg 2 or three times a day the next alternative we're going to talk about is a group of substances called phytos sterols phytosterols are very similar to cholesterol but you can only find cholesterol in animals and animal products things like beef like chicken like eggs and milk you'll find a lot of phytosterols in seed oils like corn oil soybean oil sunflower oil and you can also find phytosterols in olive oil with phytosterols you can expect to lower your cholesterol by about 10% they don't
do much in terms of lowering triglycerides or raising HDL cholesterol the average American gets about 300 milligrams of phytosterols in their diet each day if you're vegetarian you may get up to 500 mgram of phytosterols from your diet however you need about 2,000 migr of phytosterols to get the cholesterol lowering effect so that means that you would have to take it in the form of a supplement this next option to lower cholesterol is really quite interesting and it's called red yeast rice to get red yeast rice you take white rice and you allow a particular
kind of yeast to grow on it as it grows the yeast produces a whole host of beneficial chemicals including one that turns the rice a bright red color one of the many substance that the yeast produces as it grows is monoline K and guess what monoline K works just like a Statin drug called L Statin in studies red yeast rice lowered LDL cholesterol by about 25% and it can take up to 3 months to get this effect but there is a problem with red yeast rice supplements first of all a lot of the studies that
were done showing that red rice yeast is effective in lowering cholesterol were done in Asia that in itself is not a problem but the problem is that the active ingredient monoline K is classified as a drug in the United States so it's illegal to have it in any supplements in anything that's sold over the counter so if you buy red yeast rice supplements in the United States it's very likely that it won't have enough of the active ingredients to actually lower your cholesterol unless of course they're breaking the law and there's another problem with red
yeast rice while the yeast is fermenting the rice it produces a poison called citrinin and citrinin can damage your liver and your kidneys if you take enough of it and seeing as monoline K the active ingredient in red yeast rice behaves like lva Statin then you would expect to see a lot of the same side effects right yes you will so you might experience muscle pain liver and kidney problems headaches dizziness and lots more don't take red rice yeast if you're taking certain medicines like statins some drugs for high blood pressure like veraa Peril some
antibiotics like clery antifungals like ketoconazol and you should also avoid grapefruit so I said earlier that i' tell you how to lower your cholesterol naturally and permanently and remember we also mentioned different types of fats that are floating around in your blood triglycerides LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol so when you have high triglycerides high LDL cholesterol low HDL cholesterol that's a sign that you have a bigger problem in your body you may also find that your blood sugar and your blood pressure are higher than they should be and you may also have quite a bit
of fat stored around your middle around your tummy these are all signs of insulin resistance and when you cure this insulin resistance you'll find that these problems and many more will Disappear by themselves without having to take lots of different medicines and supplements and in the next video I'll show you how to do that
