sources tell ABC news that us investigators believe Chinese hackers have launched a wide- ranging cyber campaign targeting cell phones of Democrats and Republican officials including former president Trump and his running mate JD Vance the Trump campaign is responding to the reported Cyber attack trying to blame vice president Harris and Democrats accusing them without evidence of emboldening China and Iran joining us now for more on this is ABC News chief justice correspondent Pier Thomas Pier what are we learning about uh this alleged hacking campaign well what we we are being told by sources is that it
was pretty comprehensive that the Chinese Affiliated hackers uh targeted a number of major service providers uh operating in the United States and basically they use that to then focus on high-profile customers and we're being told it was not only former president Trump and his running mate JD Vance but also other political leaders Business Leaders and people in government and the concern now is as the government contacts these victims they're trying to figure out well what exactly were the Chinese officials able to do what were they able to see were they only able to see who
those people were communicating with by their phone or other devices were they able to look at text messages were they able to look at emails and God forbid were they able to somehow get to the point where they could listen to conversations that is all being investigated the answers are still being pursued it's a massive investigation obviously of great concern to Federal officials and they've been warning for quite some time uh Alex that down the stretch of the campaign that you would see China Russia and Iran increase this kind of activity you recall just a
few weeks ago uh that the government put out information that that Iran had hacked the Trump campaign gotten some campaign information and then seek sought to give that information to people affiliated with the then Biden campaign so uh stay tuned more coming yeah more coming indeed Pierre thank you for that update sir
