As football fans, we’re always making complaints about our favorite clubs, but it seems like our voices are hardly ever heard. Well, we’re here to amplify your voices, guys, because today, we’ll be talking about some problems your favorite clubs have refused to take care of for quite some time. This is 1 issue your favorite club has not resolved for a long time.
Let’s start with Barcelona. Since Neymar left in 2017, Barcelona have not been able to find a permanent solution to their left wing problems. And it’s not for a want of trying.
They spent big on Dembélé, Coutinho, and Ferran Torres, but none of them solved Barcelona’s left wing problems. Ansu Fati came up from the academy and provided a temporary solution, but injuries took him away so soon. And then they had João Félix on loan, as well, but that didn’t work out either.
The club thought they would finally get this issue resolved this summer with the signing of Nico Williams, but that didn’t happen even with how much they chased him, so it is sort of still a problem for them. Also, since Busquets’ exit in 2023, they’ve had a defensive midfield issue which they seem to be hoping a La Masia graduate solves. But Liverpool, on the other hand, are hoping that one of the players they bought for another position will help solve their defensive midfield problems.
If we’re being honest, Liverpool have had a DM issue since before Fabinho left. The Brazilian was obviously declining in his last couple years at the club, which has left Liverpool with a hole to fill ever since. Thiago being unfit almost the entire time and ultimately retiring didn’t do much to help.
Wataru Endō was a temporary fix, and Liverpool tried to sign a permanent one this summer in Martín Zubimendi, but he rejected them, which has forced Slot to convert Gravenberch into a defensive midfielder. Will he do the job for the Reds or will they still need to sign a 6? What do you think?
Anyway, while the Reds have a DM issue, the Red Devils have a coach problem. Since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013, Man United have really struggled in the coaching department. From Moyes to van Gaal all the way down to Ole and ten Hag, it’s still the same story.
José Mourinho is still United’s most successful coach post-Fergie, and he left in 2018. That tells you how bad things have been. And much hasn’t changed in all these years.
Yes, ten Hag won the FA Cup, but he still doesn’t look like the coach who will restore United back to old glory, and in fact, many fans think it won’t be much longer before he’s sacked. Manchester United really need to find a long-term solution to their coaching issues. You know, just like Arsenal did with Mikel Arteta.
And speaking of Arsenal, do you know what issue they’ve not been able to resolve for some time? Take a guess in the comments, we’ll see if you’re right later in the video. But now, let’s talk about Real Madrid.
They obviously still have a right wing problem that they haven’t resolved since the days of Gareth Bale. Right now, they have three top left wingers, but no natural right winger. Because of this, we have often seen Mbappé, Viní, and Rodrygo on the left side of the pitch with the right side left empty.
This is sort of how things were last season, as well. Madrid have obviously won the Champions League even with a team like this, so it’s hard to complain so much about it, but you still feel like there’s a need for balance. They need to be able to find a way to balance out the attack, and only a natural left winger can do that.
Arda Güler and Brahim Diaz are more of 10s than wingers, so we still can’t exactly say that they have that solution in their squad. Meanwhile, Man City’s issue? A Rodri backup.
At this point, it has become a real issue because last season, this guy was used like a bar of soap, and their win percentage almost always took a dip whenever he was not around. As we all know, Pep Guardiola is a huge fan of squad rotation, but Rodri is the one person he just can never rest. They tried to solve this issue with the Kalvin Phillips signing, but that did not work, now they’re back to square one.
In fact, Phillips has already moved to Ipswich on loan, leaving them still with no Rodri backup. If he picks up an injury in the business end of the season, Man City could really be in big trouble. PSG, meanwhile, have a striker issue that has not been resolved for a while.
And it is crazy that we say this after the club spent 160 million euros on Gonçalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani last summer. But even with both these guys on the team, PSG still had to use Mbappé as the striker and sometimes even Asensio as a false 9 last year. And even the club and the coach know that they have a problem which is why they went after Victor Osimhen this summer.
Now, Ramos is injured and in their game against Montpellier, Enrique went back to playing Asensio as a false 9. You see? It is obvious that they still have a center-forward issue that has not been resolved since Cavani left.
Now, remember we asked you to guess what issue Arsenal have. What was your guess? Well, as far as we’re concerned, their main issue is a backup for Bukayo Saka.
The winger is obviously their best player and is always their highest goalscorer and often their most creative player, as well. If they lose him, it could change the entire complexion of their season in an instant. Now, because of how important Saka is, he keeps playing every single game, and that’s a huge risk.
If there was a good enough backup, Saka would be able to get some rest every now and then without the results being heavily affected. Arsenal have got rotational options for all their important players including Havertz, Odegaard, Raya, and their defensive pair, but Saka is still without an understudy. It’s a real cause for concern.
You know what is a cause for concern? The fact that Bayern Munich are still yet to find a Manuel Neuer successor. Obviously, the German is still one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but what happens when he retires or when he begins to decline drastically?
They have signed young attackers, midfielders, and defenders, but still no new keeper. Neur is 38 and guess what – his backup is 36! The last time Neur had a long-term injury, Bayern had to panic-buy Yann Sommer, who they ended up selling months later after Neur came back.
It seems like Bayern Munich are not even thinking of life after their number 1, but his recent retirement from international football should actually motivate them to start looking to resolve that issue before it becomes a big problem. Finally, Chelsea’s unresolved issue is definitely their addiction to new, shiny toys. They have spent close to 1.
5 billion euros on transfers in two years and only seem to have become worse. They have an overpopulated squad now and even the coach himself publicly admitted that over half of the squad doesn’t train with the first team and he doesn’t even see them. Chelsea’s ownership seems to be addicted to signing players; maybe a transfer ban will do them some good.
