hi friends I want to share a story of mine in which my mother-in-law and I did something not quite right at the time I was working a shift job as a gasoline truck driver one day I came home from work too early my wife Betty was not feeling well so I decided to go to the Village Store 50 km away I decided to stop by my mother-in-law's house to see if she wanted to go with me by the way her name is Joyce I pulled up to her house and she came out to me walking
to the car with a playful look that drove me crazy I told her I was going to the Country Store and asked her to come with me she didn't bother to refuse she quickly changed her clothes got into my car and we drove off the road was not very good after the rain poot holes and mud but after an hour we were already standing in the store and stocking up on groceries we had two bags each the guys had instructed us not to come back without whiskey I bought three bottles for myself and 12 for
the boys slow music was playing in the car and my mother-in-law was having a great time with this music when we had about 20 km to go I jokingly said to her hey let's have a drink this road is making me car sick surprisingly Joyce didn't refuse I got the bottle and she sliced the sausage and bread most importantly we forgot to get shot glasses so I poured the water out of the bottle and made two improvised shot glasses handing one to Joyce with a good appetizer we almost finished the bottle of whiskey when I
lit a cigarette she asked for one too I thought she was joking but I lit it and gave it to her I lightly hugged the already not young woman and she reciprocated putting her head on my shoulder I kissed her hand and she threw her head back I started kissing her hand without remorse without much thought I pushed both seats all the way back and lowered the back rest at this point we lost control of ourselves for the first time and we crossed the line of what was allowed right there in the car after about
5 minutes we lay in silence her head resting on my chest I asked her if she was in a hurry and if my father-in-law Frank would be concerned that we were taking so long to get there she shook her head if she wasn't in a hurry I wasn't in a hurry either then Joyce asked are you ready for round two I nodded cheerfully and then the fog of Joy came over us again on the way home we discovered that her t-shirt had ended up stomped on the floor as we were doing it she didn't put
it on but put on her jacket buttoning it all the way up when we pulled up to Joyce's house Frank was already waiting for us he looked at Joyce who was all disheveled and she quickly hit her dirty t-shirt in a grocery bag she hurried into the house to hide the evidence Frank walked to the car and asked where I had taken Joyce well we went grocery shopping I said the road is bad so it took a while he pretended to believe me but he looked at me strangely as if he sensed something was wrong
but I would be disrespecting myself if I didn't continue dating my mother-in-law we started meeting in secret in the car in the woods away from prying eyes anyway Frank still can't understand what's going on with his wife and why she's always in such a good mood but like all secrets ours was inevitably revealed one evening after another rendevu in the woods we returned to Joyce's house thinking we had destroyed all traces of adultery Frank was sitting on the porch looking more serious than usual I tried to act calm but tension was in the air Joyce
we need to talk Frank said his voice firm but calm Joyce looked at me a flicker of panic in her eyes but she nodded and followed him into the house I stayed outside my heart pounding wondering if this was it if our secret was finally out I Waited For What seemed like hours but only a few minutes passed Joyce returned her face pale and her eyes dilated he knows she whispered her voice trembling he knows everything my stomach clenched how I asked even though I knew it didn't matter he's had suspicions for a long time
she said he followed us today saw everything he didn't say anything until now because he wanted to make sure what do we do I asked Panic rising in my chest I don't know Joyce said Tears In Her Eyes he said he needs time to think he's not sure what he's going to do we were both silent for a moment realizing the reality of the situation I knew I had to confront Frank face to face but I didn't know how to do it the next few days passed in suspense Joyce and I didn't see each other
and I avoided Frank as much as possible I waited for the other shoe to drop for him to confront me to demand answers one evening Frank called me into the house I walked in dreading what awaited me Frank was sitting at the kitchen table a bottle of whiskey in front of him he poured two glasses and slid one toward me sit down he said his voice flat but cold I sat down without touching the glass I've been wondering what to do Frank began staring at the glass in his hand you and Joyce betrayed me and
that's something I can't just let go of but I was also married to to that woman for 30 years and I'm not going to throw it all away because of that she made a mistake and so did you I nodded not knowing what to say Frank looked me in the eye his expression unreadable here's how it's going to be he continued you're going to stop seeing Joyce completely no more meetings no more secret dates and you're going to keep your mouth shut about the whole thing do you understand yes sir I said my voice barely
above a whisper if I hear that you were around her again or if it gets out you'll be the one to regret it Frank said his tone leaving no room for argument I'll forgive her because she's my wife but you I can deal with you in other ways I swallowed hard and nodded again Frank stood up finished his drink and left the room leaving me sitting there shocked and unsure of what to do next I left the house that night knowing that things would never be the same again after that Joyce and I kept our
distance the thrill was gone replaced by a cold harsh reality I concentrated on work trying to put it all behind me but the guilt never left me constantly reminding me that I had crossed the line eventually Joyce and Frank stayed together she managed to repair the relationship even though I knew things were strained between them I too moved on with my life but the experience left a mark on me a reminder that some things are better left untouched and that the consequences of our actions can catch up with us in ways we never expected
