here's something that I talk about I might talk about this more than anything else I'm not sure if this is the case but it's on my heart so often that I need to finally make an essential present video about this my name is f m Schmitz and this is essential present in the course of my life in the course of a year in the course of whatever a day I will talk to so many people who will say ah I get that the mass is important but I just don't get anything out of it and
I would say I hear you bro I've said this I go to mass I don't get anything out of it you us if I'm in a group of people I'll be like hey raise your hand if you've ever said this or heard someone say this I don't get anything out of mass and it's like 100% everyone is either said it themselves or they've heard someone say this and typically if you know you're with some people who want to help you they will say listen listen listen you get out of it what you put into it
it's like the mass the JanSport backpack right what you get out of it is what you put into it and that's not wrong like that's not false it's not untrue it's one of the reasons why the the second Vatican Council said uh encouraged the full and active participation in the mass that sense of hey if you're engaged if you put your heart into it you're going to get out you're going to get a lot out of it it's one of the reasons why I encourage people to read the mass readings before they go to mass
it's why I encourage a lot of people to bring a notebook with them when they're at Mass because the Lord's speaking to us through his word and so you can you can get a lot out of that so in some ways you're not wrong what you get out of it is what you put into it but but that answer misses the heart of what the mass is because ultimately we realize wait a second what is the very heart of the mass like what is the very heart and I've asked this question many many times what
is the heart of religion and I here's the conclusion the heart of religion is worship the heart of the mass is this is worship so let's pause on this if I were to say I go to mass I don't get anything out of it but the mass is worship I would say good good I don't get anything out of mess uh here's a little news flash you didn't go there to get anything you get the word of God proclaimed to you hopefully the priest Deacon or Bishop explains it so you get the word of God
explain to you hopefully if you get to receive Holy Communion you get actually the word made flesh in the holy sacrament of the Eucharist God dwelling himself dwelling inside of you oh but I don't get anything quote unquote like no that's amazing but is that the point if the point of the mass if the heart of the mass is worship what is worship worship is not what I get worship is what I can give we think it's about us that's why there's this ridiculous trend of building churches in the round where we got all because
why because we're all here for each other like no no no no no we're here with each other absolutely we're here as a body of Christ completely as as a community as a family yes but we're not here for that we're here as that for work worship if we don't get this we will never understand the point of the mass if we don't understand this we will never actually be able to do in the mass what we're supposed to do in the mass the mass is worship and worship is not about what I can get
worship is all about what I can give that I'm supposed to show up to mass prepared not just prepared to receive yes we do get to receive again disclaimer we get to receive our Lord in the Eucharist and in the community and in and in and in the word but we're there to give we're there to join our prayers our hearts our everything with the ministerial priest offering up the great sacrifice of the son to the father in The Power of the holy spirit this is the heart of the mass is that sacrifice right if
the mass is all about worship well what's worship all about worship is all about sacrifice and the Very heart of the mass is when we offer up the Eucharist right the body blood soul and Divinity of Jesus to the father and the power of the Holy Spirit the once forall offering of Jesus Christ on the cross we offer that up we represent that offering in an unbloody way to the father that's worship and if I walk away saying I didn't get anything out of that maybe that means you were doing it right that doesn't mean
being bored during mass right that doesn't mean being disengaged during mass it means in fact the opposite it means actually knowing what you're there for if I I man couple uh months ago couple months ago yeah I was walking into a church and as a Sunday morning and I wasn't doing the mass I was leading a a preparation for a bunch of retreatant right and so we were in one part of the church and the other parishioners on Sunday morning we walking into the church it was beautiful it was like an August Sunday morning I
I I was just really impressed by all the families who were getting up really early on an August Sunday and this is kind of vacation land in Minnesota and so people on vacation saying we're going to get to mass and I'm like that's awesome super good but as they were walking in I kept wondering to my I could not help but Wonder to myself I wonder how many of them what they're about to do and how many of them are just like well we're going to mass cuz we're supposed to which is again still really
good but how many of them are walking in saying okay my spouse my my kids or even I'm going in by myself we're here to offer the sacrifice I mean I I wonder how many people are walking into Mass saying okay here we are this Sunday morning we have to be there because we have to be present to offer the sacrifice of the son to the father and the power of the holy spirit for the glory of the father and salvation of the world we need to be here which means as we walking into church
I need to have more and more a Priestly heart right because priests offer sacrifices and so when we show up doesn't mean again doesn't mean we're disengaged doesn't mean we're bored full and active participation that the second Vatican Council talked about means this it means you and I show up as kingdom priests God give me a Priestly heart a heart that can listen to your word and respond to it but a heart that can offered the sacrifice of the son to the father and the power of the Holy Spirit United with that work of the
ministerial priest at at the altar so that when you go to mass we can we can get rid of this ridiculous notion that I'm there to get something out of it again God is so good that we do get something right we get himself get his word but that's not the point the point is to give so maybe next time we go to mass we're not going to say what can I get out of this Mass but we will show up with a Priestly heart and say what can I offer or how better can I
offer that sacrifice of the son to the father and the power of the holy spirit this Mass I'm telling you if we do it like that it will change everything anyways for all here to presents my name is father Mike God bless [Music]
