Hello everyone thank you for watching. Thank you for the support on the song, Thank you to Arcane and all the teams of Riot Games for this opportunity. Hello everyone.
I'm very happy today to be answering a few questions for Arcane and for “Ma Meilleure Ennemie,” the song that we did with Stromae for this amazing, amazing show. Thank you again for all the love that you gave to the song since it's been released. It's crazy and I'm so, so grateful that I was able to participate in this crazy adventure.
In fact, it was the people from Riot Games who came to my Coachella show and talked to my brother, saying they were interested in making a song. They basically gave me the instructions and direction of this scene. I basically just wrote a song about a couple who love and hate each other at the same time.
I did a first version of the song, I sent it to Riot Games. They put it on a sort of sequence, but obviously it wasn’t animated yet so we could already see what it was going to look like. And then afterwards they said to me, “It's a shame that there isn't a woman singing as well.
” And I was in contact with Pomme. I said, “Hey, it would be good if we proposed to Pomme. ” I had the whole story in mind.
I had watched all of Season 1 of Arcane and so I had a bit of the story of the characters and of the overall story of the series, and I was inspired by that. I also drew inspiration from my own life, as I do for each creation. There's always a part of myself, I feel.
So I was inspired by both the cartoon, both of the show in fact and at the same time of my own emotions, as I always do when I write music. I knew Riot Games because I was a gamer and I know a little bit about the world of video games. I found it quite interesting.
It really offered a different type of animation and rather original. And then I was struck by the complexity of the story and all that. So actually, from the beginning I was really excited to have already watched the series.
I also really like the idea that for each episode, there are very powerful songs and that there are identities of artists in popular culture which are associated with each episode of the series. I think it's incredibly brilliant. And bringing together the world of music with the world of video games and animation in this show is incredibly intelligent and hyper modern.
And all of that really made me want to discover the series from season one. So my first reaction when I saw the scene was frankly, I found it quite poetic and I understood the vision that the directors and all the animators of the show had where I said to myself, “Oh yes, in fact they clearly knew what they wanted and they work really well. ” And I found it quite poetic and everything.
I thought the music went well together, especially since it's a pretty crucial moment. They also told me before that it was a crucial moment in the series, but I didn't realize it when he was explaining it to me. But it really does the job, and I thank them for trusting me with this sequence.
Well it was amazing to see the people react to the song because personally, and I think that's the case for Stromae too, we have never had so many reactions, so much enthusiasm, and so much exposure. It was crazy because, at least for me, it was really extremely new. I think we were all surprised by the success of this song.
And honestly, the series has a lot to do with it, obviously,. But at the same time, it also reassures me that I still know how to make music, and so does Pomme. Well, obviously my worst enemy is myself, since I think we're all a little bit of our own worst enemy.
It's funny because in the song, they address each other. They’re addressing each other. But I think it's also a song which can be addressed to different parts of ourselves and the relationship we have with ourselves.
There was a kind of beauty, a romanticism and sweetness, which was actually quite rare in the series. There was something special about that episode. Thank you very much for the support.
Thank you very much for all the love. Thank you to Arcane. Thank you to Fortiche, Riot Games.
It was an amazing opportunity for me to be a part of this show. Thank you Riot Games, Alex, Luc, the co-producer of the song, and thank you very much for the opportunity.
