like on a keto diet your body will try to burn fat producing Ketone bodies as an alternative energy source there are three different types of Ketone bodies BHB aceto acetic acid and acetone among these BHB is the most abundant and efficient fuel source the other two don't really play a significant role in terms of energy production as Ketone levels rise your body shifts into ketosis a fat burning state where your body starts to use mostly these ketones for your energy needs if your goal is to burn body fat achieving ketosis is considered an optimal state
for your body to be in but can BHB supplements help you enter ketosis some manufacturers would like you to think so but the reality is a bit different ketosis happens when your body lacks carbohydrates to burn and shifts the burning fat for energy instead not because you're taking in Ketone bodies like BHB in other words using BHB supplements won't trick your body into ketosis if you're still eating carbs it's the low carb diet that triggers ketosis not the presence of the BHB itself now what about weight loss can BHB supplements help if you're already on
a keto diet or fasting research suggests the answer is no one study compared two groups one on the keto diet alone and another on the keto diet with added BHB supplements the results the keto diet was effective on its own for weight and fat loss but the BHB didn't provide any extra benefits another study looked at obese patients following a very low calorie weight loss diet again adding BHP didn't speed up their weight loss what if you're not dieting at all in one study participants took BHB for 12 weeks without following any specific diet while

levels the metabolic benefits of a keto diet such as better insulin sensitivity are primarily due to the reduced carbohydrate intake which lowers blood sugar and insulin production it's not due to the presence of BHB simply put the benefits of ketosis come from following the keto diet itself the presence of Ketone bodies like BHB is just a sign that your body is working and your body is actually burning fat but BHB itself is not the main driver of those benefits so taking BHB supplements won't magically replicate what a keto diet achieves some claim BHP can improve
your workouts helping you burn more fat by boosting exercise performance since BHP is a potential fuel source for your body this idea might seem plot aible but the research tells a different story one study in young men showed that taking BHB salts before a cycling test didn't improve performance or make the workout feel any easier compared to a placebo similarly a study with trained athletes found that even large doses of BHB didn't improve performance reduce perceived exertion or affect lactate levels during cycling another small study with endurance Runners found that taking a ketogenic protein supplement
containing BHP and MCTS showed no improvements in run times compared to Placebo so while BHB supplements can increase Ketone levels in the blood this doesn't mean it'll help you burn more fat or lose weight faster human research consistently shows that taking additional BHB doesn't offer any significant benefits for metabolism your liver naturally produces enough BHB during ketosis and adding more via supplements doesn't do anything else if your goal is to lose weight by burning fat inducing ketosis can be a GameChanger but relying on BHP supplements isn't the way to do it the gold standard of
achieving ketosis is sticking to a keto diet this means drastically reducing your carbohydrate intake typically to around 20 to 50 g per day for most people staying under 30 G daily is a solid rule of thumb to put that into perspective that's the amount of carbs in about two small apples you'll need to focus on eating healthy fats like avocados nuts olive oil and fatty cuts of meat to fuel your body intermittent fasting is another effective way to trigger ketosis by limiting eating to specific time window nose you lower insulin levels and boost glucagon which
helps your body burn through its stored glycogen once glycogen is depleted your body shifts to using ketones for energy naturally putting you into ketosis if you want to jump start ketosis high-intensity interval training or hii is a great option HIIT involves short bursts of intense exercise followed by rest periods which quickly depletes your body's glycogen stores with glycogen gone your body turns to Fat for fuel ramping up Ketone production plus HIIT offers other perks like burning calories more efficiently improving heart health and building lean muscle if you're looking for supplements to support ketosis skip the
