is there a point where or an instance where digital piracy is is not immoral this is almost an entire interview on itself but I'll try and be brief okay because I think it boils down to those historically intellectual property was always considered the property or considered the um the heritage of the whole of humanity so once a guy decided this one I'm talking about in the medieval period so once a guy discovered some methodology of some form of Technology um the only way he could make money up was by selling his own stuff where he
made it with that but he couldn't patent it or copyright it or things like that and all he could do is um produce his own stuff and that's how he would actually make money some have argued which I think is probably true that that's actually true even according to the natural law that ultimately intellectual property um or things that are patentable or even in digital rights there is um there is a certain sense in which the natural law says that this is the general patrimony of all human beings most moralists who are serious about studying
this stuff to them say that the Civil laws in this area bind until then such times are actually changed and the only time that the Civil laws would be put aside is at the same time in which um there would be any time that they would be put aside so for example um if the civil law was such that said um that uh you know that we're going to restrict everybody to buying five pounds of beef a month right um most people I mean you might necessarily witness that some people would argue you'd have to
follow that unless you became starving and the only thing you have is beef well then the law doesn't applying right so if there's a civil law that basically um goes contrary to something that's necessary um or that for you or even for society to some degree then it can't bind so I would basically argue myself at least initially that the digital rights laws you should obey them if for no other reason than to obey legitimate civil Authority I mean we should do that for our sake for our own virtues sake in relationship to these things
and um the uh and then just basically observe those laws unless necessity dictates otherwise and then in that particular case then you know as it says necessity has no law my own personal opinion is yes they should they should take it but it's not usually grave matter right it's not like somehow another if you're making a copy of a piece of software somewhere that somehow or another some guy loses his house at home so I think it's my own personal opinion is most of those things are just venial generally speaking so they can just take
it to the professional and they just say you know I I didn't um follow the the Civil laws regarding copyrights or something like that something as simple as that it doesn't have to be that extensive uh relationship to it I should say this because some people would probably question well what about what happens if I get a bunch of software and copied a bunch of movies or this other thing you know do I have to make restitution and the strict answer is that most smallest say no you don't you just have to cease using the
copy if you're going to continue using it then you should um pay them but otherwise if it's something that's done in the past no restitution is required
