Due in, like, three weeks. She's trying to come out early. And his sister lends him the car to come meet me at the hospital and be with me, because they thought I was in labor.
I was angry. [laughs] If I was actually in labor-- he wouldn't have been able to get to the hospital. See what he puts us through, right?
I've been trying to get this cast says 9:00 this morning. OK, ma'am, are you the owner of the car? We both are.
Did you go to traffic court? No, we didn't have to, they said. Why not?
You have a live stop. You have to go to traffic court. Huh?
We do have to go to traffic court? - Mhm. - I don't understand.
Could you tell us-- cause when we went to the-- Sure. Your car was live stopped. OK, right.
You were picked up by the cops. Right. So you have to go to traffic court first before-- OK, but we don't we have no paperwork or nothing to go to court with.
Yeah. So what do we-- You do have to go to traffic court. OK.
We need to know what it is we have to do. Well, actually, first, you're going to have to take care of your registration, because you have an F stop on your car. What's an F stop mean?
Did you have a lapse of insurance? Yeah, why? You have a suspension on your registration.
Oh, my god. If you don't get that taken care of, you're going to have to turn in your tags and serve a 90 day suspension. Say what?
OK, so we have to go take care of this now? Yes. All right.
And you're gonna need money. Oh, my god. OK, do we need my brother to get the car released?
No, you don't need him, but you're going to pay everything. We have to pay his ticket, too? Yes, ma'am.
Oh, hell no. He's never driving my car. Never, never.
So the ticket that he got is 393. He's got more than that. He got three citations.
He had an unlicensed driver, and it's an unregistered vehicle. We have to pay all his tickets? You got 393, 293, and the unregistration for the vehicle.
Now, I take this down to-- You take that, your registration, your driver's license, and your insurance. OK. I am back.
I was going to go to traffic court, but first I went to Ashley's Insurance. They told me the best way to do it is just sell the car to somebody. Now my cousin's going to have the car.
I'm the cousin who's always helping out. Al right, I need the traffic court release, I need the receipt. Why would she send me in here without the receipt?
Who? Why would who send you in here? Um-- CLERK: Can I help the next person?
It's yellow. It's yellow, [inaudible]. There it is, right there.
Sorry. Tell them to let you back up. The least she could do is make sure I had everything I needed.
Next in line. OK. You just purchased this from Dana and Lisa Dixon?
Yes. Oh, OK. So you're the new owner, sir?
Yes, ma'am. Oh, OK. It has an F stop on it.
OK, one moment. I'm gonna get your paperwork. A lot of people don't want to serve the 90 day suspension.
What they'll do is, you know, sign it over to a family member, like this gentleman here, in order to get the vehicle back. OK, honey. I need your release from the judge.
Release from the judge? Yeah, the release from the judge. What is that?
There has to be a release from the judge on this vehicle, sir. It was live stopped. The people who sold you the vehicle, they didn't inform you of that?
No, ma'am. They explained to me that that's not my problem. That that was the other owner's problem.
No. All those violations that were incurred have to be paid. Sorry, they didn't tell you that?
No. She said that that had nothing to do with me. Well, those violations have to be addressed.
At 8th and Spring Garden, sir. Won't be able to get the car until you come back with the release from the judge, and all that paperwork. Now, why didn't she tell me that?
She told me all I have to do-- You're going to have to take that up with her, sir. I can't answer for her. Sorry.
We went to traffic court. When we went to traffic court, the judge called my name out. I went up to the front, and she said, Brent, you owe $4,900-some dollars worth of tickets.
And I said, wait, wait a minute, I'm not Brent. I said, Brent is not here. I just let Brent hold my car.
So she said, well, you're going to have to pay 10% of that $4,900-some dollars in order to get the car back. And then I just started crying. She had to give mercy, the way Lisa started crying.
But that was a serious cry. That wasn't a phony cry, that was a real cry. For real.
My buddy's back. All right, so hopefully I'll be all right. OK.
Looks good. Let's have that tag. OK.
Finally. Go over to that little blue booth over there, and we'll take you down to your vehicle. - All right.
- Hey, I got everything. OK. Trying to get this car since 9:00 this morning, and it's now 9:00.
Yay! There. [music playing] [laughter] Very glad!
[music playing] I wanna pay this. That's incredible. Trying to rob people without a gun.
You know, I think it's a racket. That's what it is. It's like the Gambino family.
[gunshots] I don't want to come back here again. Thank you. Have a good day.
OK. Yeah, she went to lunch. I just got here.
It's break already. - I hope she don't smoke. - Hi, sir.
How can I help you today? You gonna take care of this? I just need your driver's license, registration, insurance.
Can you hand me those, please? [music playing] Got to get it a little organized there. As old as I am, I don't be doing too much paperwork.
Well, it's not paperwork. It's being organized. Yeah.
I don't know how to do that. OK. Drver's license, thank you.
Check on that. OK. Registration.
All right. Have those. Let's see here.
What's this? This is not your insurance. It's not?
No, it's not. Do you have your insurance card with you? Uh-uh.
I think I have it in the truck. OK, go out and see if you have that. And I'll take care of you.
Insurance is one of our main priorities. Can't get out without insurance. They get an elderly person.
They ask them all kinds of stupid questions. Yeah, I got it. I wouldn't treat the elderly people like that.
Sir? This is not your insurance card. Oh.
I think this is some type of receipt. But this is not your insurance card. Can you see that?
They don't give us a card out. No, sir. Everybody has to carry an insurance card.
This is it right here. The number and everything is on here right here. No, sir.
That has no information whatsoever on it. It has to have the effective date with the expiration date. It has to have the VIN number.
It comes on every statement every month. This is it right here. This is not an insurance card, sir.
That's a statement that it's due. Sir, please step back. I'm dealing with the owner.
He knows what he has to do. Don't you, sweetheart? OK.
Please step back, sir. [bleeps] OK. Call your insurance company.
OK? And they'll fax me a copy over, sir. - OK.
- All right. Great. - What is she telling you?
They giving you the runaround. This person just jumped in. And he's saying that this is, in fact, his insurance.
And it's not. That's why we do that-- we just want the owner at the window. The phone number is on there.
The policy number is on there and everything. And they saying that's not the right one. You know?
They're full of [bleep]. He has to have insurance. If he doesn't have that, you know, he can't get the vehicle.
Hello? Hello? Trying to contact the insurance company.
Hello? The insurance is paid up already. I paid it last week.
Hello? Hello? I feel pretty bad right now.
They're really getting on my nerves. Yes, I need you to fax verification to this number that I'm about to give you. Right now you're what now?
Oh, my goodness. Oh, they're socking it to us. OK, all right.
Thank you. They say their system is down. Oh-- I feel pretty bad right now.
Come on. Let's go. I'm leaving.
I'm going to my insurance agent. I need an insurance card. I'll be back.
Yeah. Don't have any patience left. [music playing] That's the insurance card right there.
[ding] I think I'm very close to getting that car. I'm just walking away. I don't want to get in no confrontation, because it's taking my money.
And then they want to take my little peace and happiness. OK, you're going to drive it out? Yeah.
I need your license. Thank you. It says here you're an unlicensed driver.
No, they couldn't get the information on the computer or something. Hold on. Oh damn.
This is a lot of drama. These people frustrate you, man. They take you to the breaking point.
I used to meditate every day. I didn't get a chance to meditate yet. They just act like you don't know anything and treat you like you're stupid.
Yeah, you're good. Your license is good. OK, this insurance is for a Ford F-150.
Yeah. Well, this is a Buick Riviera that you're getting out of here. Yeah.
[crickets chirping] What it take to get the Buick out of there? Well, you're not giving me insurance for a Buick. Oh, another mix up?
Well, you're going to have to call your insurance company and have them fax us insurance for the Buick. Oh, man. All the systems down today.
[inaudible] Well, then you're going to have to go there and get me insurance for the Buick. All right. They do have another card, but they just didn't give it to me like they're supposed to.
Yeah, we gonna have to go to the insurance agency again. [music playing] We just went up there for nothing. This is the card right here.
Well, it won't work for them. I tried it before. Oh, I feel sad.
[music playing] Here to pick up your vehicle? I got everything processed yesterday. But I had to get proof of insurance papers.
It must have been faxed in this morning. I haven't seen anything yet. But let's check again.
623 here-- I didn't see it yet. No insurance yet. [music playing] This is it.
[applause] Oh, yeah. I'm getting the car back. This is your first time dealing with this, huh?
Yeah. I never got in trouble in my lifetime. Well, let's keep it that way.
Even though you was very nice, I don't want to see you again. What's your tag number? DGW-704.
We had a wedding to be in this past weekend in Allentown, and we happened to go out in Philadelphia on Sunday night. I reported my car stolen because the cops called here and they said that they didn't have my car. And then I called yesterday.
And they're, like, oh, yeah. We got your car here. My car was just towed, and I don't even live in the city.
You were at the club? That's where they took your car from? Was it fun?
No, not worth this. We just went through a whole bunch that night. All I know is they came down here to have a good time on the other night.
And when they came down here, the car was towed. They thought the car was stolen. But she called these people, and they told her that they had it over here in the lot, so.
My sister's husband is deployed to Iraq tomorrow, so they have to head back to North Carolina as soon as possible. The rent-a-car key is in my car, and her credit cards. This young man is being deployed tomorrow.
And he has to be back in Fayetteville, North Carolina, today. He's going to Iraq. He's going to Iraq tomorrow.
That's why it's so important for him to get back. You don't want him going to jail. He's getting ready to go fight for this country.
And he's leaving tomorrow. And I got to be out of here, like, now. He's being deployed.
Where? Classified. Let me get your ID.
You're going to take this red ticket across the street and get your registration and insurance out your vehicle. And go get my car? Well, get your paperwork out.
Then, when you come back inside, make your payments. All right. You know.
No, I don't. Where's your car? This don't make no sense.
Now we're gonna drive from Allentown back down here to Philadelphia today. Because we couldn't get the car yesterday, because it was a daggone holiday. And she gets down here, and they're still hassling.
Just hassle. Oh, I hate this mess. And he's got to be back in Fayetteville tonight.
This is the ticket. This is the reason why your car was towed. "No stopping any time.
" You can pay the cashier at the next window. What is the-- I'm lost on this one. I thought that's what I just paid.
You paid for the towing fee. Towing fee? That's all we pay here?
The $125 is for us towing your car. I don't understand why I got-- so when this says stopping prohibited, what was that? Do you remember any signs where you parked at?
No, and I even asked the cop. He said he doesn't see why, so that's why I'm asking you. There was three other cars in front of me.
Did they all get towed, too? Because there was no sign. I really wouldn't have-- I mean, but you live in Philly, right?
Yeah. But I don't know the geographic location, like, where the signs will be at. And I can't pay this now?
You can pay it over here, or on the internet, or mail it in. If you want to contest the ticket, I can give you a contest form. I don't got time for that.
So I'll pay it. Later. That was a surprise.
I felt like I should have been notified of that when I phoned, so that I could-- came prepared with that money, too. They don't tell you, yeah, there's more. Typical.
That's going to get your car off the lot. Enjoy the rest of your week. They even have a little club tag on there.
I'm not going to no club out here. And I got to be out of here now. I'm really not digging this ticket that I have to pay.
He gives you the ticket later. Says, oh, yeah, you got to pay that in 15 days. Like, why didn't you tell me that on the phone?
Why didn't you tell me that before I went to get my car on the lot? Like-- I don't understand what her situation was. I don't know.
That was a little confusing, but, hey. As long as they're getting their car out, they happy. It cost me $200 to party in Philadelphia, and I didn't even have fun.
I'll never go again.
