Hi guys. In this video we're going to look at the /ɑː/ sound. It's in words like "bar" and "aunt".
Its technical name is the open back unrounded vowel. This means that your tongue is low in the mouth - it's right at the bottom - and it's pulled back. Your lips are unrounded, so they're stretched out a bit: /ɑː/.
And remember, the two dots mean that this is a long vowel. Say it after me: /ɑː/ /ɑː/. Here are some words with this sound: ask, father, park, car, yard, spa.
And now a sentence: I asked my father to park my car in the yard of the spa. If you can think of more words with this sound, please write them in the comments. Thanks again for watching.
In the next video we'll look at the /ɒ/ sound. See you then!
