welcome y'all let's talk exterior design hey everyone for me there's nothing quite as exciting as transforming a house into a home your home's exterior is the first thing people see make it Unforgettable over the years chip and I have learned a thing or two about creating exteriors that are both beautiful and functional it's about finding that perfect balance between style and practicality so whether you're dreaming of a modern farmhouse a classic Cottage or a Sleek City dwelling we're here to share some tips to help you create an exterior that reflects your Unique Style let's get
started you one of the first things I consider when designing an exterior is the surrounding environment it's crucial to take a good look at the landscape the natural elements and even the local architecture your home should feel like it belongs in its setting almost as if it has grown out of the ground itself Like It just fits naturally this Harmony creates a sense of peace and balance think about the beautiful Texas landscape where chip and I call home the Rolling Hills the wide open spaces and the native plants all play a part in our design
choices it has a certain charm a rustic Elegance that we love to bring into our designs this rustic Elegance is not just about Aesthetics it's about creating a warm inviting space if you're in a rural area like us consider using natural materials like stone or wood for your exterior these materials atals not only look beautiful but also age gracefully over time these materials have a Timeless appeal and blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings they help your home to feel like a part of the landscape think about a beautiful Limestone facade or cedar shingles that weather
to a gorgeous silvery gray these choices add character and a sense of History to your home if you're in an urban environment Sleek finishes like metal siding or concrete can create a modern and sophisticated look these materials offer a clean temporary feel think about adding pops of color with Planters or window boxes to soften the hard lines and bring in some life this touch of greenery can make a big difference you want your home to stand out yes but also to feel like it belongs in its environment it's a delicate balance between making a statement
and blending in it's about creating that picture perfect curb appeal that makes everyone stop and stare curb appeal is the first impression your home makes so make it count up next we'll talk about adding depth and dimension to your exterior with textures textures can add visual interest and make your home truly [Music] unique now let's talk texture texture is one of those elements that can completely transform the look and feel of your home's exterior I love adding different textures to an exterior because it creates depth and visual interest it's like giving your home a personality
a flat facade can feel a little boring don't you think it lacks that inviting charm that makes a house feel like a home like it's missing that special something that extra touch that makes it stand out in the neighborhood think of your exterior like a good outfit just as you wouldn't wear a single fabric from head to toe your home shouldn't be limited to one texture you wouldn't wear just one fabric from head to toe would you mixing Fabrics adds layers and interest to your outfit you'd mix and match different textures to create a more
Dynamic and interesting look the same principle applies to your home's exterior same goes for your home start by thinking about your main materials what is the primary texture that defines your house maybe it's brick or siding or even stucco each of these materials has its own unique texture and feel now how can you complement that with contrasting textures think about what materials would enhance and highlight your main texture I love incorporating natural elements like wood beams stone accents or even metal roofing these materials bring a sense of Nature and authenticity they add a warmth and
character that you just can't replicate with man-made materials natural textures have a Timeless appeal don't be afraid to mix and match combining different textures can create a unique and personalized look for your home a little bit of contrast can go a long way it can make your home more visually appealing and interesting imagine a modern Farmhouse with a whiteboard and Baton exterior accented with rustic wood beams and black metal light fixtures the combination is stunning when you're playing with textures think about the scale of your home too larger homes can handle Bolder textures while smaller
homes might benefit from more subtle variations remember it's all about the details small touches can make a big difference in the overall look and feel of your home so have fun with it and let your creativity shine through your home is a canvas and textures are your paint chapter 3 making an entrance designing a welcoming entryway all right y let's talk entryways your entryway is the first glimpse into your home's personality so you want to make it count one of my favorite ways to create a statement entryway is with a bold front door don't be
afraid to go for a pop of color a bright red a classic Navy or even a sunny yellow can instantly elevate your curb appeal and make your home feel more inviting and let's not forget about lighting good lighting is essential for both with function and Ambiance I love using a combination of scones pendants or even a statement chandelier to create a warm and inviting glow now think about the pathway leading up to your front door consider adding a beautiful stone walkway a Charming brick path or even a simple gravel path lined with Lush Greenery remember
your entryway is the first and last impression your home [Music] makes chapter 4 lights on creating Ambiance with outdoor lighting you all I cannot overemphasize the importance of good outdoor lighting it's not just about Safety and Security it's about creating a mood a feeling think of it like jewelry for your home adding that extra sparkle and shine when it comes to outdoor lighting I like to layer different sources to create depth and dimension start with pathway lighting to guide your guest safely to your door you can use lanterns Stak lights or even up lights nestled
amongst your Landscaping next think about High highlighting your home's architectural features wall scones on either side of the front door or uplights placed strategically in your flower beds can really make those details pop string lights are another great way to add a touch of Whimsy and warmth they're perfect for patios pergas or even strung across trees in your backyard the key is to create a balance between function and Beauty chapter 5 living outside designing functional outdoor spaces now let's talk about extending your living space to The Great Outdoors creating a functional and inviting outdoor area
