16 years and 73 days. 16 years and 73 days. Max Dalman has probably just produced the crowning moment of Arsenal's title charge.
He has produced the iconic moment of Arsenal's title charge and he has done it all when he is 16 years old and 73 days. Can I ask you a question? What were you doing when you were 16 years old?
What were you doing when you were trying to juggle your GCSEs with whatever other pursuits you had? Max Dalman, what on earth have you just done? That was amazing.
And I don't want Arsenal to win the league. I don't want Arsenal to succeed, but even I could find the euphoria in that. That was a young prodigious footballer doing something truly, truly amazing.
And he is a talent because it wasn't only the fact that he did it. It wasn't only the fact that he scored the goal. It wasn't only the fact that that substitution changed the game entirely.
It's the quality that he brought to it. Yeah, he scored the goal, but it wasn't a tap in, was it? He was the architect of his own genius.
It's one of the best goals I've seen scored this season. and the craft involved, the guile involved, the grace involved, the way that he bravely won the ball, nodded it into space, used the youthful burst of pace to make it, then gently eased the defender out the way, used his body to send him one way, dropped the shoulder the other, and then calmly ran the length of the pitch before tucking the ball away. It was simply sublime.
It was elite. It was amazing. And you suddenly think of the iconic moments over the years.
You suddenly think of what Wayne Rooney did when he burst onto the scene. If you're a little bit older, you suddenly think of what Michael Owen did when he burst onto the scene. It was just amazing from Max Dalman.
And I dare I say it, do you know who else it was amazing from? The moment belongs to Dman. I'm taking nothing away from him.
But do you know who else it belongs to? It belongs to Mike Artetta. Mikuel Artetta deserves so much praise.
So much praise for putting his trust and belief in a young kid. so much praise for being bold enough, being brave enough to trust the young kid. Arta said that he felt it in his gut that it was a time to deploy Max Dalman and it was correct and he deserves the praise cuz if it hadn't worked we would be saying that you've thrown a young kid in the deep end.
So the fact that it did work means he gets the praise. And when you think about what we lambasta with. When you think about the way that we talk about Mikuel Artetta, the way that we can on occasion deride Mikuel Artetta, suggesting that he is too riskaverse, suggesting that he is too boring, suggesting that he is too concerned with losing rather than going out to win.
He doesn't want to lose. He doesn't want to lose a league title. He's not ready to go and claim a league title.
He is preoccupied with not losing one. What has he just done? He has gone out and he has made one of the most exciting maneuvers that he possibly could.
He he has made a a progressive exciting in the spirit of football substitution when he turns to Dalman. Like when you think about the way that we have spoken about Arteta, it doesn't chime with what we have seen. It was simply amazing.
And do you know what else it shows? God, every time you think about this result, when we explore it like this, you're just revealing layer after layer. It's like an onion of all of the reasons why Arsenal are going to win the league.
We're talking about Arteta being a little bit too cautious and bang, he deploys a kid. We're talking about Arsenal over the years not having enough bottle. Are they going to capitulate?
Do they have a weakness? Do they have a vulnerability and suddenly you see the bottle on display? They fought to the end.
They allowed their their they allowed their effort but also their skill to get them over the line. And the way the fact that they have done it with a kid, it's going to go down in history. Sometimes in football, and I know that I'm I'm a bit of a an old romantic and you will call me a nostalgia merchant, but sometimes in football, right, when you witness greatness, you have to appreciate it.
Witnessing Wayne Rooney, I felt privileged to be watching football when Wayne Rooney was doing what he was doing. When you witness these things, when you witness Michael Owen burst onto the scene, you have to appreciate it. And I feel like what we've seen here with Max Dman is one of the most historic goals of the Premier League.
It was a kid who has come on and he is so young like we are talking a child like we are talking like GCSEs. He's worrying about his GCSEs whilst he is doing this. He is the youngest player to ever score in the Premier League.
He is already the youngest player to ever score in the Champions League. And when we say youngest, this is very important. He is the youngest by some distance.
Like he is only just 16. He has broken the record of James Vaughn. James Vaughn who scored for Everton.
James Vaughn was nearly 17. Like to do it at 16 years old and 73 days. He has only been 16 for 73 days.
James Vaughn was 16 years and 270 days. So he was nearly 17 and the other players involved in this. James Milner nearly 17.
Michael already 17. We mooney nearly 17. This kid is a kid and it's just amazing.
Just think about what he did. Think about symbolically what he has done. He has come on and he has elevated.
You know when you have a player like this land it it inspires the fans. It inspires a belief. You heard Joarez talking about Dalman, talking about how brilliant he is, talking about how inspiring he is.
This is actually the clincher. I really believe that it's the clincher. And I'm going to go back to it.
We're going to focus on Din. Everyone is. I'm going to go back to it about Arteta.
I really think he deserves the credit here because it was a gamble and we deride Arteta for not gambling enough, not being brave enough. To gamble, you have to be brave. The easy thing to do is not play the kid.
The easy thing to do is play Gabriel Jus and if it doesn't work out, Gabriel Jesus's fault. You can blame Jay Zeus. If Dmond doesn't work out, you blame Arteta.
So, he's gambled. He's taken a risk and he's paid off. And think about the mechanics of taking that risk.
Think about the substitution. Just just the like for like he has taken off his anchor in the team. Zuba Mendy off the kid comes on.
I mean when you are taking off your anchor in midfield and you are putting on a a a beautiful footballer, a diamond of a footballer, but a very unpolished diamond. You know, he's a he's a school boy. I think this is it.
We're witnessing history here. This is the moment I often speak about defining moments. I always talk and anybody who watches this channel regularly will know that I always talk about these moments that you get like as a Chelsea fan I'll always talk about Chelsea going to Ewood Park.
I think we have just witnessed the moment the defining moment the clincher the the the symbolic victory that takes you to a title. This is it. It was it was just amazing.
It really was a performance from Arsenal. An individual performance at least for the ages. the quality of the goal, like the poise, the grace, the calmness.
The calmness was was what you would expect from Ces Fàregas when he was 30, I mean, and the change of pace to get there. It really was spectacular. And I tell you what, if Arsenal do go on to win the Premier League title, and I hope they don't, but I know they will, you'll look back on this evening as the most pivotal of all of the games.
Look, I I talk about this a lot. There is always a moment. We saw it last year with Liverpool.
Liverpool beat Brenford. We knew they were going to win the league. Arsenal up until this point, weirdly, they haven't had a defining moment.
They haven't won at Anfield. They haven't they haven't beaten Man City. They they beat Villa, but some would suggest that isn't quite the the the moment.
They beat Tottenham. Others would suggest that isn't quite the moment. They beat us.
Some would say that wasn't the moment. My argument was always they beat Tottenham and Chelsea in consecutive weeks. You beat your two London rivals in consecutive weeks.
I was arguing that was a statement weekend but I think it's just been gazumpted. I think what Max Dman has done has just gazumpted here like a boy from the academy who was come on and found the answers that a couple of hundred million pound players couldn't couldn't find out a couple of hundred million pounds worth of talent couldn't couldn't work out. If that isn't the answer I really don't know what is.
I mean, it was just truly amazing. And like I say, anyone that has seen me talk about football will know that there are always these fixtures. This is it for Arsenal.
This is it. This game could easily have ended up a draw. And if Arsenal were the Arsenal of old, it would have done if Michel hadn't made a a a new approach, found a new solution and and been pragmatic.
You know, he tried to go toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola and be a a Pep Guardiola light, a BTech version of Pep Guardiola. And they played glorious football. Remember when they had the pink kit on, they played the best football in the league.
But they came up against Man City, they got battered 4-1. Everyone laughed. Arteta, to his credit, has been pragmatic.
He has found a solution. He's bullied his way to a title. And there is no shame in that.
I don't know if you saw a video that I did recently on this channel with Fuad. You should look it up because we spoke he's a Tottenham fan and I'm a Chelsea fan and we were speaking about how idiotic it is of John Obie Mckel to to be saying that the football that Arsenal playing is illegal to to how foolish it is from Alan Pardie to say that this title comes with an asterisk. It's idiotic from both of them cuz it just isn't true.
Arsenal have found a way. But anyone suggesting now that they don't have the beauty or the guile or the craft or the ingenuity to win a league, we have just seen it from this kid. This kid is all of it.
This kid has the dazzle. He has the flare. He has the murial brilliance.
He has the unpredictable ability. It's just truly truly an honor to watch this happen. And it's it's amazing.
It really is amazing because what they did and we saw it juxtaposed tonight. This is actually a massive point juxtaposed tonight. We saw Arsenal struggle and find an answer.
We saw Man City struggle and capitulate. That's the difference, isn't it? Arsenal found a way and the best teams will always find a way.
They will always come up with a solution. Whatever the mechanism to getting there, they will come up with a solution. Manchester City were out of answers.
Manchester City were out of answers against a worse team. And the fact that they have brought on Yarez and Dalman from the bench and both players have scored. Both players are the reason that Arsenal have won the game.
Full credit to Mikuel Archeta. It's 10 points clear now for Arsenal. 10 points with seven games left to play.
I mean Arsenal fans, it's time to start believing. I I'm sure you are. I'm sure you are believing in your own way, but I just think now that it is.
Yeah. What is it? No, it's nine points, isn't it?
Nine points game in hand. I just think that it's I think it's there. And the fact that you have done it via a Halen graduate in the most glorious of ways, my god, it will be one of those moments that Arsenal fans will remember.
Like, you know, when you think over the years, I I guess from an Arsenal fans perspective, I'll try say you go Emirates era Arsenal, like you could go back, obviously you could go back into what what was happening with with Ian Wright, Dennis Buramp, and depending on your age, you'll start talking about Charlie George or Cliff Bastard, whatever. But if you think about it, this this era, the Emirates era, what are the Arsenal iconic goals? You think of you think of Terry Henri coming back scoring against leads.
Alexis Sanchez had his moments. Robbie van Persie had his moments. Seth Fàregas scoring that goal from the halfway line against Tottenham.
Then it's this, isn't it? It really does feel like it's this. It's a massive moment.
It's a glorious moment for Arsenal. I can't see how they don't win it from here. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.
We are witnessing the birth of a superstar and for that everyone's got to be happy. We're also witnessing Arsenal winning the league. For that, I'm not happy.
