World Records Olympic gold medals and nail-biting finishes that were only won by a few hundredths of a second this year's track and field season was out of control entertaining as we got a front row seat to many of the all-time great moments in the sport of Athletics but which moment was truly the greatest of them all the single most memorable race or event that took place in 2024 there were almost too many moments to choose from when looking back at this year's track season and this year's Paris Olympics were an absolute spectacle of Athletics greatness
some of the key highlights included Julian Alfred winning St Luca's very first Olympic medal in the women's 100 as she took a historic and dominant gold medal in 10.72 there was then of course Noah ly winning by just 0.05 seconds over Keane Thompson in the men's 100 meter final powering his way to the victory in one of the closest 100 races to ever go down in ch I ship running and then there was of course the unbeatable undefeated Mondo Duplantis dominating the men's pvt this season setting three World Records in a one-year span and of
course he won the Olympic golden Paris with yet another world record some of the biggest moments in this year's track season were from some of the biggest names in our Sport and World Records seemed to fall like dominoes as 2024 continued but which athlete truly accomplished the most recently I've been following the world athlete of the Year nominees and the recently published finalist over the past few days these finalists are the absolute best of the best and just to make it onto this list requires nothing short of true greatness just to qualify but there were
some notable athletes missing there's no beatric Jabet who won both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters in this year's Paris games there's no faith kipon who won her third straight 1500 gold medal in Paris as well there's no Noah ly who medled in both the 100 and 200 plus the indoor 60m World Finals as well there are many big names that were initially nominees with hopes of becoming the athlete of the year that have already been cut from this runoff however one of the more influential athletes that has made his way to the finals is the
24-year-old yaka Binga bricken from Norway who had one of the most interesting 2024 Seasons out of any athlete in the world and unlike anyone else before him he has made a very unique type of History this year that no other Runner that I could find has ever been able to duplicate remember the world athletic scoring table you know the one that gives a score from 1 to 1,400 with every performance that an athlete completes well let's just say that yakob has borderline broken this system in a recent video we broke down in relative terms what
various scores mean on the scoring list and we used a few different events to show show what these different scores actually look like in different running moments score 1,200 and you're clearly a world-class competitor who likely can compete in the big events and you might even make it to a global final score 1,250 points and you are officially entering in the competitive conversation for a global gold medal in virtually any event score 1,275 and you're starting to approach record-breaking territory and it's very possible that you already have some Global championship medals to your name and
then there is the 1,300 Point barrier and this kind of performance genuinely makes you one of the greatest if not the outright greatest to ever compete in your event scoring 1,300 points is very very difficult and to put it into more perspective scoring one is basically the absolute slowest time possible you're basically sleeping your way to the finish and to get up to 1,400 this is the the theoretical limit that is basically Impossible by Any Given standard in the current landscape of track but getting 1,300 is already pushing into Limitless territory that very few athletes
will ever reach indeed scoring 1,300 basically makes you a legend and most people can only dream of scoring this many points unless you're yakoba brixon because in 20124 he achieved one of the most amazing scoring Feats in track and field history on August 25th yakob jumped into a 3,000 M race in Poland where it was widely known that he was going after the world record of Daniel keman now at the time I was very skeptical of this world record falling it was one of the oldest records in track and field as it dated back to
1996 it was held by one of the most talented athletes that the world had ever seen and at 7 Minutes 20.6 7 Seconds it required a 400 m lap effort of under 59 seconds indeed this world record could only be broken by someone who is Brave and Bold enough to go out at a near suicide pace and somehow hold on to this arduous Tempo But ultimately yakob would be the athlete to do this with a truly historic time of 7 minutes 17.55 seconds yakob took more than 3 seconds off the previous world record of Daniel
koman and in the process he scored 1,320 points for this new world record a score that completely obliterated any other distance record on the track at the time yakub's face upon crossing the Finish Line right here says it all this really was one of the all-time great moments in distance running and when we take a look at his personal records we can see that incredibly this makes the third distance running world record that yakob currently possesses that scores over 1,000 and 300 points in the history of distance running both on and off the track yakob
is now the only only athlete to score more than 1,300 points in three separate events and he has officially achieved this feat over the 3,000 the 2,000 M and also the 2 m distance which also so happened to be a previous world record held by Daniel keman from everything that I have been able to find no other athlete has ever been able to score over 1,300 in three separate events this applies to all athletes competing in their individual disciplines Usain Bolt hasn't been able to do this Joshua chepy hasn't done it not even Elliot Kip
chog who has been running across various disciplines for more than two decades this kind of consistent versatility makes yakob a very unique runner on the track but honestly this only scratches the surface to yakub's greatness because also in 2024 yakob did something else that only one other athlete has ever done when you think of yaka being a brixen what do you see a 1500 great a middle distance legend or perhaps the future of running well what if I told you that this man is actually one of the greatest and most special 5,000 meter athletes of
all time in 2024 yakob completed his third consecutive 5,000 meter global Title as he won the world Champs in 2022 he won at the following year in 2023 and he is now officially an Olympic champion over the 5,000 meters as he won the 2024 Paris games over this distance as well in the history of track and field only one other Athlete on the men's or the women's side has ever won two straight World titles in the 5000 and Then followed this up with an Olympic gold medal why don't you go ahead and take a guess
at who this athlete is go ahead I'll give you a few seconds well this other athlete is none other than Mo Farah one of the greatest Championship distance Runners to ever live it is pretty wild to see that yakob is so good that even in his backup event he is capable of running this well on the biggest of stages and what's crazy is that during his buildup in 2024 yakob was mostly focused on the 1500 as he was competing in this event on the diamond League circuit throughout the world if all of these incredible data
points weren't already enough yakob also broke 327 this year in the 1500 making him one of only four people to ever do this he won the diamond League finals in the 1500 and he also ran a 345 mile for a season opener that was his first race after a big injury that took him out of this year's indoor season the only reason that yakob might not be the one to win this year's track athlete of the year for World Athletics is that he did ultimately fall short in his 1500 gold medal pursuit in Paris where
he only managed to finish fourth behind Cole Hawker Josh Kerr and yard ngus but outside of this one shortcoming yakub's 2024 was honestly epic and his abilities to St competitive during every single race was just crazy this season with all of this incredible history in mind and the true greatness that yakob achieved on the track this season what do you think about his chances at winning the track athlete of the year for 2024 and also who do you think will win the outright World Athletics athlete of the Year this season could it be yaka Binga
brixon could it be Lila toboo or could it be Mondo Duplantis from Sweden who will probably win let's just be real thanks for watching everyone and as always until next time
