Today's video is about making a bag with an easy design, a large capacity, and a very chic look. I'll be using 3 mm polyester cord yarn, around 800 grams, and a 5 mm crochet hook We’ll start by making a magic ring, then crochet 3 single crochets inside the ring. Pull the yarn tail to close the ring.
Chain one, turn your work, and start the second row: Make 2 single crochets into the first stitch, 3 single crochets into the second, and 2 single crochets into the third. Chain one and move to the third row. In every row, increase in the first and last stitches (meaning, crochet 2 single crochets into each), and in the middle stitch, make 3 single crochets.
Chain one and work the fourth row the same way: Increase at the first and last stitches, and in the middle stitch, make 3 single crochets. Continue like this until you complete 7 rows. By then, you should have 27 stitches in total, Now, make another identical piece, but don't cut the yarn at the end.
Chain 19 stitches in the same direction as the last row you just finished — this will form the outer side of the bag. Take the second piece and do the same. Insert the hook into a stitch on the other piece through just one loop, slip stitch to join, chain one, and turn your work — now we'll work along the chains.
Before we begin crocheting on the chains, divide the 27 stitches into three parts: Count 9 stitches, place a marker on the 10th, On the other side, also count 9 stitches and mark the 10th. This way, between the two markers, you have 9 stitches. Now, when we crochet along the chains: The first third will have increases, The second third will be worked evenly (no increases or decreases), The last third will have decreases.
Starting the first row: Be careful not to work into the slip stitch you joined with. Make 3 slip stitches, then 3 single crochets, then 3 half-double crochets, then 3 half-double crochets into the same chain, then 3 half-double crochets, 3single crochets, and finally 3 slip stitches. So, we worked 21 stitches over the 19 chains.
Before starting the second row: Slip stitch into the next stitch , of the other piece (using one loop only) chain one, and work the second row without any increases — into the back loops only Start with 3 slip stitches, 3single crochets, 9half-double crochets, 3single crochets, and 3 slip stitches. After completing the second row, slip stitch into the next stitch of the other piece again, through just one loop, then chain one. From now on, we'll alternate two types of rows: One row with increases (adding extra stitches at the center), One row worked evenly (no increases).
Each row starts with 3 slip stitches then 3 single crochets. In rows where we do increases, work 3 half-double crochets into the central half-double crochet stitch. Each row finishes with 3 single crochets and 3 slip stitches.
After every increase row, crochet an even row without increases. Repeat this pattern (increase row, even row) until you complete the first third and reach the first marker. At this point, you will have finished 18 rows.
At the 18th row, you should have 32 stitches: 3slip stitches, 3single crochets, 25half-double crochets, 3single crochets, 3slip stitches. Now, for the second third, you will work even rows only (no increases or decreases) following the same pattern as the 18th row. Work 16 rows to reach the second marker.
At this point, you will have completed 34 rows in total. Now let's start row 35: 3slip stitches, 3single crochets, 11half-double crochets, then make one half-double crochet over three stitches (decrease), 11half-double crochets, 3single crochets, 3slip stitches. After each decrease row, make a regular even row (no decreases).
Continue alternating until the last third is complete. 3slip stitches, 3single crochets, 10half-double crochets, 1half-double crochet across 3 stitches, 10half-double crochets, 3single crochets, 3slip stitches. Continue until you finish the final row, which is row 52 — this will be an even row (no decrease).
Now, let's work around the opening of the bag: On the sides, work 14 stitches (1 stitch per row), then 19 single crochets along the chain, 14single crochets on the other side, and 19 single crochets again. Next, make 66 slip stitches working through the back loops only. I made two rounds of slip stitches around the opening.
I crocheted two handles using the Romanian Cord technique, each about 35 cm long, and sewed them securely onto the bag. You can use a magnetic clasp, but I preferred to sew a zipper for extra security. Please don't forget to write your opinion about the design in the comments!
