Los Angeles, also known as the City of Stars, is known for a lot of things The world city of entertainment, the city where Hollywood is During our entire lives, we've seen this city countless times through our screens We've wished going into it and living the stories that great artists' filmed here Every corner looks like a scene from a movie Here it's always summer A multicultural place where they get all kinds of cultures City of musical artists, TV shows palm trees, highways, malls fast food, lights, stars, skyscrapers beaches, amusement parks, surf, fun The American Dram But when they ask me what it's like living in Los Angeles, nothing of that comes to mind This is the dark truth of Los Angeles I've recently gotten back from my Christmas Holidays in Spain and the question they asked me the most is: "What is it like living in Los Angeles? " And I think my answer is not what they expected to hear because most of the things I had to say were not exactly good So with the objective of finally answering that question once and for all I've decided to make this video. So let's get the car, we'll need it In Los Angeles there are about 15 million people living The city is enormous It's a huge city where they live basically in neighborhoods where the middle and lower class people live and then there's the hills, where the rich and famous live It's estimated that the average cost per person in this city is 2450 Euros being the 4th most expensive city in the world That's why we can see such a touristic and recognizable place as Venice Beach where people stroll around, grab a bike to travel to Santa Monica spend the day in the amusement park at the Pier filled with tents of people who can't pay these high rents The beach is not the only place where you can find these camps, in fact, they are all over the city in any place with a bit of shelter whether it's under a bridge, inside a tunnel, you'll find people living in the streets Further in the video we'll visit Skid Row, also known as Zombie Street which is one of the wildest and most dangerous places in the city I think it's a good time to tell you that if you're not subscribed to the channel you're literally losing money because if we reach 2 million subscribers before February is over, I'll be giving away 500 Euros to one of you to spend in whatever you wish Preferably in something useful Although the cost of living in Los Angeles is very high it's not the main reason why people choose to live in the streets The main problem of this city is drug addiction From strong painkillers such as Fentanyl or hard drugs like crack and heroin they're what have made this city into a very hostile one These drugs not only remove your inhibition but they make you an aggressive person and if you add the fact that they need to get that drug everyday without a job or money it becomes crime Also, it's completely normal seeing every two blocks people who have completely lost their mind because of drugs Also, they all fall into this craziness in a very similar way You see them talking alone, punching the air They basically act like zombies 2000 people die in the streets from overdose every year just in the city of Los Angeles Apart from this, I want to talk about the infrastructure and not just Los Angeles, but the United States in general We're talking about the United States being the leading world power it's not rare to turn around and seeing a Ferrari behind me but everything is falling apart!
From the railway system, to the airports in the United States and finishing in the most important thing, the streets many of them are in a ruinous state and it's because the government doesn't reach an agreement to fix these roads they don't reform any airports, and the US, although they're a leading world power they aren't in any lists of best airports nor best street infrastructure It's the complete opposite Facts say Americans spend over 130 million dollars a year in repairing their cars because the streets are damaging their cars It's completely ridiculous And if you also add that public transportation is nonexistent in this city and you have to use your car for everything, I'll talk a bit about public transportation because there's a lot to be said This here is the map of the metro and buses, together although it looks like it covers most of the city, it's practically impossible to move around with public transportation apart from them being well known for being unsafe places in particular the metro, although the bus is also peculiar but the metro is even less used by people who live in Los Angeles so let's see a bit about what it's like Right after entering you feel a tremendous smell of pee Just entering, a person asked me for a lighter for their crack pipe Right in the entrance of the metro Let's buy one way ticket for the metro It's quite cheap, $3. 75 but it's because I got a card that I can reuse later Yes, we have it I don't think we'll be using it much, to be honest Great. Now I can fill my wallet with coins Change for the washing machine It's weird how you're in the metro and it smells a lot like weed, crazy I can't now I hope I can now, this is another one Right - They already spoke to me - Who?
Someone weird? The metro station is not completely ugly I've tried to be as undercover as possible You don't feel good vibes while waiting for the train It's completely normal that there are violent crimes daily in the metro and, in fact, once we got in, I looked into the other wagon and I found these two people who were completely drugged out A friend of mine once used the metro and a guy started chasing her with a knife Just because? She was alone, there wasn't as much people as here but anyway, it was here, where we are now and it's the only time she used the metro, and then never again Look at this, this doesn't make any sense Spanish?
- Yes. Do you live here in Los Angeles? - Yes, I live here What do you think about living in this city?
It's very dirty It's nice but also dirty You have to live in a better area but the rent is. . .
- Is the metro dangerous? - Look, yesterday something happened - What happened yesterday? - A man came in and sat in an area and there was a person of color and he started attacking him Attacking him?
Just because? Horrible because nobody did anything, nobody wants to intervene This is the type of thing you need to have clear in Los Angeles We rode the metro for just one stop and then left and we ended up in quite a bad neighborhood It's like a sort of park but with people with tattoos on their faces It probably was a place under rule of a gang They talked to us more than once, we caught an Uber to get back to our car Los Angeles is not completely divided into bad and safe neighborhoods but rather it's divided by streets Now when I get home I'll show you a map This you see here is the city map divided in different colors depending on the number of crimes and it's an interactive map, we can zoom in to see each part of Los Angeles, if it's dangerous or not When I said that it's not exactly divided by neighborhoods, I meant this Check it out, we have this zone that has about 10 different streets where these four streets here are very dangerous These streets here not so much, and these are safe This was a key element when looking for an apartment All this I explained in my secondary channel video, but finding a safe place in Los Angeles is a complete odyssey You have to take into account that your flat or community doesn't face the street There have been many cases where drug addicts have broken into houses to get high when you're gone A few months ago, when we were searching for this apartment we found one that was nice and nobody was renting it because next door there was this sticker that said that the flat was under investigation for a death for unknown reasons and none of this is rare The concern is so big that there are even mobile apps that show you in real time the crimes that are happening in the city Let me show you. This is the map of Los Angele and the dots are recent crimes like, for example, this one here where just recently there has been a shootout It never ends.
Here we have for example a group that assaulted people with a knife It even shows there's a helicopter flying in this area because they're investigating a crime, and the crime list in real time is infinite I'm not really a fan of these kinds of apps because they send notifications when something happens near your location and it can be pretty frightening In fact, look how you can see from home the police helicopter Something has happened, I think a woman has been shot next door And like this all day, everyday Check out this fact, there's a crime every 33 seconds in the LA Metropolitan Area It's time to see Skid Row These times, like other places, I won't go walking, we'll ride the car It's not exactly a big, dangerous neighborhood It's more like a series of four blocks Skid Row means "bad neighborhood" and in the US, almost all cities have their own but the Los Angeles one is the most famous because all this It's a place of absolute poverty where there are about 8 to 11 thousand people living It's considered one of the most dangerous places in the city because it's lead by criminal gangs and housing all kinds of drug addicts The type of homeless people in this neighborhood are multi-drug addicts people with mental illnesses and some war veterans Also, in the 80's, it was famous because of the Skid Row Stabber, a serial killer who stabbed and killed 12 homeless people in less than a year It wasn't until 2010 when they locked up a suspect Believe me, I don't try to dramatize any of these topics when I get there, I'll have this camera set here so as not to film with my camera and to be a bit undercover To understand a bit why there are so many homeless people in Los Angeles or rather in California, it's because of the weather People from all over the US move to California: San Francisco, San Diego or LA to live in the streets because of the weather We are a couple of blocks away and, as you can see, we are in the middle of downtown Los Angeles so if you're a tourist visiting the city you have to consider that this neighborhood is right by Little Tokyo It's a place very frequented by tourists so you have to take into account that you don't have to detour too much Now what I'll do is film the window with this camera and with this one I'll speak As you can see, we're in a completely normal place, downtown but we're about to enter I've never been here, I'm a bit nervous to be honest I know nothing will happen to me being in the car As you can see to the right, we can see a bit of what I was telling you I really don't know for certain where I have to go, the place is quite big From what I can see so far, it's a pretty normal place We're now in what used to be the "toy neighborhood", where the toy factories were and to my left we can see some more tents, quite large too A lot of people on the ground from what I'm seeing I don't know if this is because they don't have anywhere else to sit or if they're under the effect of drugs There usually isn't that much people in the streets in Los Angeles I'll follow this car to the left He has a better car than me so. . .
Here to my right there are two police cars I assume they must patrol this area to check that it doesn't go too wild Recently, when I was in Little Tokyo, we parked a moment to check the map and we noticed they made a fire, they were burning something in the middle of the road and I assume the police ride around these parts to check that everything is well Here to my left I think it becomes more intense I'm seeing that the place is big I didn't think it would be so big We also have to consider that it's very early in the morning It's. . .
this is enormous People in the middle of the street all the time Dang, the street on the right was crazy If you notice, here they're lining up for something, I don't know if it is some food service maybe, I don't know for sure They certainly don't show you this in Hollywood movies It's a completely different thing here It's too heavy, man It's too much It's too big, I don't know if this grew with COVID I mean, the people living in the streets are too many People crossing the red light, obviously I try not to stare at people too much because it's true that they look at me and I have a giant camera in my window that doesn't feel great If this guy let's me through, I'll go a bit faster here And there's somebody moving a tent through the middle of the street It makes no sense As you can see, back there we have the city center, the Los Angeles skyline Very famous I'll see if I can turn to the right and not hit this dude that I almost hit who isn't even looking Dear me, I got so scared there I saw him idle in the street, I didn't know if he'd move forward, I didn't want to move into the buss lane This is huge I'll leave I've seen enough I've been here and the right thing would be not to pass anywhere twice so they don't think I'm doing something bad Now I'll play an interview we did some months ago with a woman who wanted to speak to us about this issue Filming this video I realized that the problem is much bigger than what I can show you in such a short format This situation is not the fault of the people living in the streets and who unfortunately end up being drug addicts It's a much larger problem The way the United States function some people are doing very well and others do horribly With such an extreme situation, there are groups that want to take advantage of that There are many gangs who traffic and sell these drugs that make everything I just explained end up in a wounded, dark city I know with this video I won't solve anything, but I wanted to show you at least a small part of this reality Really don't believe everything that is in the movies To close this video, not everything is bad in Los Angeles In fact, you have my secondary channel where I upload a lot of vlogs in the city You can see all the good things the city has to offer This is goodbye from me and see you very soon Bye! !
