and I would say that probably got me 80% of the way there so kind of like seeing flexibility training as a strength training all of these factors are going to make your flexibility worse how often and how much should you stretch so if you want to get flexible you have to demand it from your body you have to be consistent with the demands that you make and you then need to be you know consistent with that so I I always say to people like I think 6 months is is a reasonable amount of time but
it does need to be like a good intensity of consistency over that 6 months I think is that for all the sped sort of to interrupt you I think for anything I yeah okay so you for a Pik yeah yeah I think so I was I well you know some people might get it in 3 months but I think if you give yourself the perspective that it's going to take a long time you probably won't be disappointed I really think daily stretching is massively underrated for flexibility so as I've maybe had periods of time where
I haven't trained as much and I've come back to training and like doing some of the more intense Advanced loaded stretching that looks fancy and I haven't felt good or haven't seen good progress from doing it I'm like why is this not working for me like it's definitely worked in the past what's different now versus like what I'm doing and it was because when I did it in the past it was based on 2 years of just static stretching every day and that was more that I didn't know any better like I started off I
was I want to touch my toes cuz I couldn't touch my toes yeah so I just stretched my hands for like 5 minutes and I was like I'll be fine I'll do it again tomorrow and I just kept doing that I did it for a month I saw some improvements and then I started like oh this bit kind of is a bit sore so maybe I'll try and do a stretch for that and then it gradually ended up being like this kind of 30 to 40 minute routine that I would just do every night before
bed and I would say that probably got me 80% of the way there and it was only the fancy stuff that got me from like like the 80% to 20% more yeah I mean if I go to my past I got this flexible mainly from yoga then I added loaded PNF and all these yeah fancy things that we do but it got me there not because yoga is superior to this methods I don't believe it is it's because I was doing it daily and I was doing like 34 FS daily of course my hamstrings are
going to get flexible so TI number two is what consistency and having a structure plan I guess yeah consistency I mean having the structure plan comes into being consistent you're not going to just do like it gets very tiring to think of something random to do every day you may as well just do the same thing I would say that stretching with the intention of going further I think a lot of people will just do a stretch they feel a stretch maybe it's a moderate stretch and then they hold it for 30 seconds and they
don't do anything it's like kind of the same thing about going to the gym I might do 10 bicep kills of like a random weight and then I'm going to do the same weight for the next I'm going to do the same weight I'm going to do the same for the next 6 months you might get a tiny bit stronger but you're never going to demand more from yourself so I think doing flexibility training with the intention of like I should be going further maybe I hold it for a minute over that minute I should
be able to go further into a position so kind of like seeing flexibility training as a strength training yeah trying to progress it in the same way as in like I want to ask more for my body each time now that's not always realistic so you know certain days maybe maybe you're a bit sick maybe first thing in the morning you're always going to be tighter Maybe you're a bit stressed out maybe you've just done a leg session all of these factors are going to make your flexibility worse so don't judge it too much um
but you would want to see like the general Trend you're able to reach your maximum sooner so whereas maybe it took you like 2 minutes to get your palms down to the floor in a pike position from like touching your toes maybe now that happens in 30 seconds like you haven't actually gone further into a stretch but you've got there sooner so it's an improvement sometimes like stretching initially is super intense for a lot of people it is painful at the end of the day um and part of get flexible initially is just about being
able to better tolerate that feeling of stretch like you've done yoga what's yoga about like we hold a stretch and we breathe like what are you doing when you're breathing is like you're telling your central nervous system everything's fine don't worry be calm so that's that's what we want to tell ourselves when we stretch the stretch feeling is the opposite of being calm it's a whoa what are we doing here slow down stop us from going any further okay so we just want to yeah be better able to tolerate that one advice to improve your
flexibility as fast and safe as possible what would that be don't do full body stretching what's up body Warriors today we've got a long full body flexibility routine just do like whatever it is that you want to improve so all our full body follow along routines they can that I think full body's fine yeah I think that's a good entry point for yeah yeah I think as I said like the basis for me is always like do something daily start stretching because it gives you as I said it gives you most the benefits if you're
like okay I feel more flexible I feel better I want to now achieve XY Z you need that specific goal you basic just need to dedicate more time and effort is is so being specific helps if you try to spread yourself really thin you're just going to make bad progress and everything uh it's also the case that yes we might do full body routines but usually they may be ordered in a way that like they have a combination effect so you know if I stretch my glutes my hamstring flexibility might feel more comfortable and spend
a certain amount of time in every single if I stretch my hamstrings or if I stretch my hip flexes my front split is going to feel more comfortable like there's certain things that feed together so maybe is roughly full body so we still have a bit of everything but maybe like 50% of our effort is at one thing so just you know giving it the time and energy it deserves love it thank you Tom pleasure let's become more flexible subscribe if you haven't already and subscribe to Tom's Channel as well see you in the next
