hello guys crispy here and welcome back to another video in this one my friends I'm gonna be testing a GeForce RTX 3060 12 gigabyte model in Red Dead Redemption 2. this one is the a fox model of the card we are running it with the latest nvd drivers and I'm not manually overclocking it you can see all of its specs right here in Tech powerups GPU z recessable bar is also enabled and over on the left we're pairing it with the ryzen 7 5800x3d and 32 gigabytes of RAM ddr4 3600 megahertz cl14 let's get right into it shall we first up let's go over the settings I'm playing a 1080p resolution using custom Hardware unboxed settings these are optimized to get the most visuals for performance ratio and this is it feel free to slow down the footage if you want to take a better look in the description I'll leave a link for their video with all of the optimizations and talking about each setting individually it's a really great video but yeah this is it let's start counting our FPS get roach and get out of Centennial anyway it started raining that's slightly more intensive I believe but it's getting really good FPS and it's looking great here at 1080p as well now does it look better on ultra settings yes it does but on ultra settings or high to ultra it got me around like 50 to 60 frames per second which was a much worse experience even at 1080p so I definitely prefer these settings right here again they provide the best balance between visuals and performance and wow what the hell is the weather changed completely can we commit more crimes now that it's this weather I don't know maybe people won't really hear our our shots and stuff look at this we got a witness there are a couple of them actually this one is dead okay goodbye roach I am done with you I know you would probably just get me off your back whenever you saw an alligator so here we go this one is much better it's roach's cousin right here this buttery Smooth by the way can we break these things oh yes we can nice see roach see how it's done see the FPS by the water here not a problem the sun is out apparently that was a really quick storm actually and still getting around 100 frames per second so there is absolutely zero need for you to utilize like dlss um with the 3060 at least at 1080p in Red Dead Redemption 2. dlss introduces some weird dots in fur and hair and stuff like that so it kind of looks pretty terrible in this game especially at low resolution I think I saw Jack my friends it's been so long since we've seen Jack in this game look at him hello Jack how are you going boy so cute ah as always you know that it's Jack because he's running away from us oh no he's not running away anymore yeah sir hello hello dude how's it going I'm not gonna kill you if you give me your chariots I'm kidding I will kill you let's get out of here now let's move on oh no I think he's dead I am pretty sure he's dead guys um that was terrible okay we need another champion don't do that what the hell is wrong with you beating a dead horse anyway I think that's enough for 1080p native resolution it runs extremely well if you have a 1080p monitor with this card which a lot of people do um it's gonna be perfect here in Red Dead too again you actually gotta use some of these custom settings because on Ultra or high to ultra actually I just set it to like right there and pretty much everything was set to water and a couple of things on high uh it was getting way way lower FPS and dropping from 60.
now let's do quality dlss it's not needed at all but I want to see how it runs and here we go we can clearly see like the Shadows are casting some weird dots in Arthur's jacket everything looks super over sharpened there are those dots in the hair as well oh God I'm so sorry guys I'm so sorry yeah it's just it looks way worse it gets slightly higher FPS like what 10 15 more frames it's just not worth it whatsoever in my opinion but if you like the over sharpened look and you don't care at all about the little dots well it's here it gets you slightly higher frames so there's that oh my God no no way no way oh my God where did they go what the hell are you kidding me I just lost the two horses wait what what are you doing there heart get over here but yeah let's stop it there again if you're playing at 1080p just use the native resolution alright here we go 25 60 by 1440s now the resolution we're using exactly the same settings we doubt dlss this time around it's turned off and I think it should still be capable of getting like 60 plus most of the time using these settings because it was getting around 100 average at 1080p after all what is going on with you why are you turning left I am not telling you to turn left dude okay anyway inside of this uh pretty dense forest it's getting 80s 70s that's pretty good guys once again and at 1440p it looks way better than it did at 1080p that's for sure so if you have a 1440p monitor with the 12 gigabyte 3060 it's still a very compelling option for older titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 GTA 5S Horizon zero Dawns and stuff like that I think it can do a really great experience in those titles of course in the strawberry Town things are probably going to get a little bit more intensive possibly dropping into the lower 60s and maybe high 50s but we'll get to there in just a little bit hello Bob how are you going Bobby's dead I think maybe if he's not now he is very good performance no stuttering which is also very well and as I said that we saw a little bit of a spike there but it wasn't really noticeable so okay let's keep on going we got a lot of water here which is nice because it usually drops a little bit near water whenever we're using the water physics settings Bob's horse is actually getting really tired I am so sorry I know Bob just fed you in the fattened you if that's a word and now you just can't really run whatsoever because you're really fat I know I understand it the same thing happened to me last year but now I I've been riding the bike guys and I'm a little bit better in terms of my fatness all right we've been to water already we've seen a lot of things here at 1440p Native so I'm gonna go ahead and enable the LSS on quality next and now we see those dots issues on the horse's hair and Arthur's hair you could wear a hat for example to mitigate that tissue a little bit but you know it's still gonna show up on your horse and a lot of the time you will be riding your horse hello dude how's it going are you drunk or something yes he is goodbye sir finally in Strawberry look at this dropping into the exact same valleys that we were seeing before it's actually not dropping at all so lower 80s at times a little bit of a weirder frame time graph there some stuttering is happening at times probably just loading something here hi dude are you all right let's fish together can you lend me your your fishing rod how's it going all right go go go go go go go grab grab the fishing rod I can't I can't all right I didn't know anything I didn't do anything it was a mistake I just wanted to ask for the fishing rod but the developers didn't introduce me with an option to do so water again the physics very intensive and it's it's not dropping at all so I guess even at Native resolution 1440 it wouldn't drop from 60 FPS so you're good to go guys it's not really as intensive as people say this town unless you are using complete maximum settings and maximum water physics now this is where it might start struggling a bit 2160p or 4K resolution using the same settings without the LSS first come on there are tons of them in this game it's insane uh right and it's getting 30s mid 30s low 40s at times it's not terrible it's okay it doesn't really stutter too much because the vram is completely enough for these settings so could I still play like this yes definitely I think if you get used to the lower FPS experience it's still gonna be fine especially in a game like Red Dead Redemption 2 are you okay buddy I am so sorry all right it's getting around the same FPS over here as it got in Strawberry so once again guys it can drop more than in strawberry and strawberry is not really the most intensive area inside of this game okay let's stop it right there for Native 4K it's it's gonna be very playable it's gonna provide a console-like experience probably better actually since it's not kept to 30 FPS and with DLS says it should be capable of achieving 60. let's find out and yeah all right 50s at 4K dlss looks way better than it did at the other resolutions I can hardly see the little dots right now it's much harder to see that oh hello there kind sir what are you doing I want to search for gold with you my friend okay it's all good boy what are you doing are you kidding me do you really want to do this do you think that's a smart decision to make you got a gun by the way you could use the gun okay all right well I got some ammo out of it so that's great and roach well roach's friend or cousin is eating now so everything is all right in that regards as well but um yeah it seems like we're getting like what five to seven more FPS once again it's not really a huge increase in performance by using the LSS at 4K but it is good enough let's go balanced I'm trying to aim for like 60 on average or so okay I guess this would be the experience for 60 FPS on average at 4K res obviously with balanced dlss it's not really 4K anymore and you can tell that it's a lot less detailed than it was at Native 4K resolution and I'm so sorry about the tearing by the way that's just because of freaking just hates capture so much but yeah that's it whenever we are at the refresh rate of the capture card it has a lot of tearing you can see the dots very clearly right now unfortunately I wonder when they will actually fix that issue because I've been saying this ever since they introduced dlss in this game and they haven't done anything about it it's just so annoying there are actually new dlss versions available that you can update the game to in the config files or whatever I'm not doing it because most people won't do that as well and those will make the game look a lot better and fix those annoying visual issues but they don't do it for some reason like the developers are probably working on GTA 6. let's believe it's that okay now I'm gonna set dlss to performs all right because the next thing that we will do is absolutely insane for an RTX 3060 at this point if you were looking for reasonable resolutions well you can leave the video right now because I'm about to introduce you to 8K on an RTX 3060.
that's 7680 by 4320 using Hardware unbox settings performance dlss which actually renders the game at 1440p internally and then bumps it up or upscales it to 8K still like performance dlss at this resolution looks way better than like quality dlss at 1440p or even 4K like you can't see any dots on Arthur's hair if I were to take some screenshots in Red Dead Redemption 2 I think I would use these settings right here guys it is looking that great textures are also a bit better than they were previously at the other resolutions because the higher the res you play this on the higher the resolution of the textures as well this scales with the resolution in this game and a few other titles out there and yeah it's not playable right now it's far from it we actually need like low settings to achieve playable FPS with the dlss as well but I mean it's it's insane that it's actually running this well and looking this good let's drive Ultra performance it's been a while since I tried Ultra performance yeah it gives us like three more FPS which can make a difference again at this extremely low frame per second values now you gotta keep in mind this is lower internally lower than 1440p it's a little bit higher internally than 1080p but it is looking so much better than like native 1080p native 1440p I would say this looks very similar to Native 4K alright lastly I will turn this down okay to the lowest and keep the ultra textures oh it doesn't set it to the actual lowest all right I just restarted the game now we're playing at 8K native this time with the absolute lowest settings in the game alright and it is looking terrible look at this look at those freaking textures they are so awful looking man these are like the worst textures ever maybe The Last of Us was a little bit worse when it came out because like these these rocks over here still look pretty decent you know not bad but yeah the ground is just awful looking still this is native 8K right now it's four times 4K resolutions the same as running four 4K monitors at once and it's achieving almost cinematic frame rates here on the 3060. for a card that isn't even supposed to run 4K it's doing a decent job right and I mean with dlss it would get above 30 all of the time but I'm not going to test that out guys because we got this resolution scale setting right here and what this does is it increases the internal resolution so we can't really do this 1. 5 times with which would be 12K we can't do two times which would be 16k but we can do 1.
