So what's up y'all? Say what's up to the world. Introduce yourself to the world.
>> I'm George. I come from Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. I'm also a student at BYU Path Worldwide and I'm doing a bachelor's degree in applied technology anticipating to graduate in a couple of months.
Apart from that, I'm also working an internship with more good foundation and I think that's it for now. >> Hi guys. So my name is Alicia Lumande.
I also live in Nairobi, Kenya. Um I am studying at BU pathway. I study communication and at digital marketing.
I am also an intern at Mood Foundation and I've been working culiously with Sen and scripted. >> So as I said before the show wouldn't be what it is without you guys. Now we want to know from the majority of viewers obviously being in America.
What is it like working out here in in Kenya working for Saints Unscripted? How long have you guys been working for the channel? What is your day-to-day duties look like?
Um, yeah. Any any other fun facts that we that you guys would want to share? >> So, I started the internship in December.
>> Okay. >> So, my role has been uh creating the video descriptions and the v and the video segments. So, my dayto-day activity would if uh there's no episode, so I'd be creating some designs for Christ.
org. or >> Okay. >> Yes.
So, that's what I do. >> I love it. >> Well, I'm pretty much a newbie.
I started my internship uh 3 months ago and before the internship, they did a very comprehensive training. So, I felt I'm ready to jump into the work experience. And so, my first uh role or area or area of experience was in search engine optimization, basically optimizing the blogs and articles we write often.
And then uh the next month I did community management for adfaith. org saints ununscripted christrist. org which was quite awesome.
And now this month November I'm doing video editing for adfaith. org. >> How's video editing then?
>> Video editing has been quite quite a ride. Just starting it off. Um yet to know which tool will work best for me.
I'm trying a variety of of video editing tools and hopefully I'll get a hang of it. Well, takes so much time. Needs you to be so creative and I'm sure within no time I'll be in it to make it happen.
>> Hey, I already know you will. Now, with um you guys mentioned BYU Pathways, so has your it was it because of BYU Pathways that you found out about the inter internship or was it two completely separate things? Well, because of Brigham Y Young University uh program BYU pathway worldwide opportunities have been able to come across the border.
So the rate of unemployment here is quite crazy. So we have so many people graduating from local universities and they have nothing to do. So, Brigham Y Young University uh the pathways program is here to help learners work as they study to give them a hope that they can find opportunities.
So, yes, it's a result of BYU path worldwide that we got this internship opportunity. They're really trying to partner with organizations abroad to help give us especially African students that opportunity to express our skills and to show the world what we're made of. >> I love that opportunity breeds success, man.
You guys are amazing individuals. >> So, >> what has been your favorite thing or most surprising thing about working um doing the Saints Unscripted channel? >> Honestly, I'd say maybe creating description in the video segment because I've never done that before and it took a while just to write a perfect description.
[clears throat] >> Yes. >> I think I don't think people understand. Okay.
So you might think, oh, writing a video description is just, oh, just summarize. No, it doesn't. Like your video description will like tell the algorithm what people what people expect.
People understand social media has become such a job now. When I first started creating, it was literally just doing it for fun. I was having a good time.
But now we're like, okay, we need the titles to be right. We need the thumbnails. You're talking about SEOs.
I don't even want to touch SEOs. I started I started looking into it and I was like, "Dude, there's no way that people can spend all day doing this. " So, I appreciate you, man.
The reason why the channel is successful is because there has been so many pieces to the puzzle and I think people look at >> just YouTube in general. They think, "Oh, the person in front of the camera. " Now, with that being said, Saint Unscripted has had some amazing hosts.
My testimony was built um largely in part um to do with not just just the scriptures and just the prophets, but the the young Latter-day Saints that I've seen that helped break down things that I couldn't understand, and that was through Saints Unscripted, but I didn't know that this was all the work on the back end. So, I really do appreciate all the effort that you guys been putting in. So, with the opportunities that you guys have gotten through BYU Pathways, where do you guys want it to go?
What are you some of you guys creative dreams? So personally, I'd want to be a professional digital marketer because I love connecting with people online and for me it will help me not grow as an individual but also I will uplift my community because um as uh Jud said it is very hard to get a job um even in Kenya. So when we get the opportunities, we will walk an extra mile so that we can be self-reliant.
We can also uplift those around us. >> I love that. >> And just to add on that education that you're getting at BYU Path Worldwide is of a quality uh type.
So it's not focused more on quantity, but it's of a much higher quality. It actually triggers your mind to create something new. And so uh for the 4 years I've been studying I think I feel the education I have as as Nelson Mandela said education is the only weapon with which you can use to change the world.
I feel I'm ready to now bring out my clothes and show the world what I'm capable of doing. And so these internships uh work study programs we're getting are definitely equipping us to become uh better servants not only to our country but to the entire world and BU path worldwide uh I love its its vision and motto of helping learners become disciple leaders not only at home at church but also in their communities. that balance between secular studies and spiritual learning through institute programs is actually the genius part of uh our education.
And so this is a generation of uh church leaders, community leaders develop through the program and the opportunities it brings to the students. So looking forward I can see the program becoming more and more popular just because of the impact it has in the lives of learners. and so can't wait to see what lies ahead.
>> Yes, man. I I appreciate y'all. Um like I said, you guys, we could not do what we do on this channel without you guys.
And I think it's just a testament to how the church operates. We don't I think a lot of people feel um [clears throat] I think it's been a lot of stagnant approaches in terms of how we uplift communities. And I love the fact that BYU Pathways um that you guys are, you know, you guys are essentially the face of it.
like you guys are are proof concepts to the world that there's so much talent all around and um I'm honored to be here. You guys have sparked my fire to work harder. I think you guys understand there's a huge time difference between where we are in in America and where you guys are and I know you guys are up late at random times trying to hop on meeting calls trying to make sure that you guys deliver on time.
So, I really do appreciate you guys. And uh speaking of opportunity, if you guys like this episode, please make sure y'all show some love in the comments. In our last episode, we just talked about uh opportunities that's out there in America in the door to door world.
So, good to see you guys, man. I love you guys. I appreciate y'all.
