his last fight in Saudi Arabia, I was like, "Yeah, he can't fight like that again. " The fight in Saudi Arabia, he looked like under motivated. Yeah.
It wasn't a big enough challenge for him. He didn't look like he was in the same kind of shape physically, like when you look at him. [snorts] He wasn't, you know, [music] and that and it happens that nobody know about Right.
Right. Right. Right.
them be the the ones that sneak up on you and you know you got to be ready for them. Easy night against a a style like in Billy is boxing. Canelo's not a boxer.
Canelo's not going to be moving. Canelo's a flatfooted fighter. He's an older flatfooted fighter with 75 damn professional fights.
He's been fighting professionally since he was 15. He has is war torn. The last thing you want is to be war torn, to have physical ailments and be in there in a physical fight with an undefeated puncher that's hungry for this moment.
You got to give it to Canelo for stepping up. They must have paid him a huge amount of money, that Saudi money to step in with Billy. This a dangerous fight for him, man.
This is a dangerous dangerous fight for Canelo. I I will throw punch the first second and the last second of the fight and I hope he will be ready because it will be an amazing fight for him. I think he he he will regret to be in the ring.
Terrence Crawford believes Canelo Alvarez could face serious problems against Christian Embily, especially with the pressure and physical intensity expected on fight night. Crawford's assessment raises questions about whether Canelo can keep up with Billy's work rate, particularly if he struggles to throw enough punches to control the action. Canelo knows like why would I want to get in the ring with this guy that's going to be massive come fight time.
And I'm not that big of a guy at all. I've been doing all this with my skills because because Canelo's not a big guy. He's been fighting big guys his whole career.
And Oscar De La Hoya believes Canelo is taking this fight primarily for financial reasons rather than any genuine competitive ambition. He questions Canelo's motivation, suggesting that money appears to be the main driving force behind the matchup. De La Hoya also makes it clear that he dislikes the fight itself.
Yeah. What do you think about him announcing his fight with him Billy? What do you think about the fight itself?
I I I I don't like the fight. Come on. I mean, and Billy, come on.
I I I I I just don't like the fight, especially um especially if it's not going to be here in the US. Again, we have to watch a fight at 9:00 a. m.
I I I'm just not a fan of that, you know. I would have loved Canelo to fight here in Vegas in September. Uh you know, with with all his fans, you know, cheering him on.
That's what that's what fight fans want to experience, you know, big events. the fighter wants to have thousands of people cheering him on. And so it's I don't know.
It's I I think I think if you think about it, look, every fighter has its peak and then you start to, you know, see the exit um clear. And you know, Canelo's, you know, on Canelo is uh is is is right there. You know, he's a few fights away from retirement.
So I don't blame him for taking the money and running. I don't blame him. I mean, smart guy, but I I I I do feel that he has a few good fights left in him against great fighters, not Embil.
Christian Emily believes Canelo is no longer the fighter he was 5 years ago. In his view, age and years of competition may have affected Canelo's explosiveness and punching power. Emily appears confident that the Mexican superstar has lost some of the strength that once made him so dangerous.
I think maybe now he have his his power is going down a little bit and uh but he's still dangerous. He's still completely but I think 20 maybe five five year ago he was different level but now he's a little bit down I think but he's still very very dangerous. Mhm.
Serio Mora believes Canelo Alvarez could be putting himself in a dangerous position by choosing to face Christian Emily. At this stage of his career, Canelo cannot afford to underestimate the risks involved in such a demanding matchup. Embily presents the kind of challenge that could push Alvarez into uncomfortable territory, particularly if the fight develops into a physically exhausting contest.
Yeah, my guy Mike Coffer just announced that right now. He did. Yeah.
So, uh, when we did, uh, me and Manx did a pot on this, I said, "Who who's next for Canelo? " I said, "Look, man, between Lester Martinez and and Billy, I much rather him fight Lester Martinez. " Both of them are similar in stature, but Lester Martinez is more of a boxer where he'll he can give you chances of him pulling back and you can crack him.
And Billy stays in your chest. He's a tank. He stays in your chest.
He's he squares up. He fights from the southpaw stance, Afghanistan stance. Hard to look good against guys like that.
and a natural bigger fighter. That's going to be a tougher fight for Canelo. And at this stage of Canelo's career, he doesn't like physical fights.
He likes to impose his his aura. He likes his impose his reputation. Guys to be uh uh intimidated.
Ain't going to be Christian Billy. Billy has power, aggression, and he's ready for this moment, ready for the payday. It's been a tough fight for Canelo.
Mark my words, man. Tough fight for Canelo. The pressure, intensity, and constant forward movement could make it difficult for Canelo to control the action on his own terms.
Mora's concerns suggest this may not be Canelo's most favorable option. With other opponents potentially offering different challenges, taking on Mabilli could prove to be a serious gamble, one that carries significant risks for Canelo's performance and long-term standing. Just it speaks to who Canelo still is, though, when you talk about a guy like Canelo Alvarez coming back against a guy like Billy.
I mean, just lost by the skin of his teeth the last time out versus Martinez. It was a draw. It was a draw.
Exactly. But what what do you think has to happen? And it's weird because it feels like he lost, but because I guess where Lester went on to achieve glory, but what do you think that Canelo has to do to look good versus in Billy?
What do you think he should be working on right now to come back strong? Look, man, the only way to make it an easy night against a a style like in Billy is boxing. Canelo's not a boxer.
Billy makes it clear he intends to bring relentless pressure on Canelo from the opening bell to the final seconds. The French contender believes he has the physical strength, durability, and aggressive style needed to create serious problems for the Mexican superstar. But you're a lot bigger and a lot more intelligent in the way you fight than Kirkland.
He was uh very reckless and I think you have a better chin. Of course, I have a better chin. I think uh yeah, physically.
Yeah. Do you think because Canelo traditionally in his fights he likes to start slow takes you know a couple of rounds examine his opponents and usually his opponents let him because of age and what you've seen you have to be the regular Christian and Billy from the first second and te test the test the veteran's legs out and his stamina to see if you could deal with those 100 punches around. I will not change anything.
You know even like his fights with Golovkin. Golovkin had not threw as many punches you but he had a come forward style but he didn't fight him like that you know he decided to box and this and that and you know things didn't go his way where I think uh you saw a few things that night in September where you're like I I got to be the Christian and Billy everyone knows and go straight to him. Not Christian Billy ever that every everybody know it will be Christian and Billy like uh two two 200% Christian and Billy will not be the normal Christian Billy will be super Christian and Billy Billy understands that Canelo is dangerous with his counter punching so he knows he must combine his forward pressure with smarter combinations and improve defensive awareness.
However, he has no intention of abandoning the fighting style that brought him success. Billy wants to maintain a demanding pace, test Canelo's stamina, and prevent him from comfortably settling into his usual rhythm. He start he start very young.
I think he was 16 years old, 15 years old. He have a lot of lot of fight now. I think his performance now he's going he's going down, but he's still very dangerous.
Uh, I think it's a very it's perfect timing for me to to beat him. You know, some critics say you have the perfect style for him. And then other critics are saying after a year off and elbow surgery, this is not the kind of fighter he may want to get in the ring with who's going to go right to him in the first round and throw a 100 punches around.
Of course, I think I'm I'm very dangerous fighter for him. And uh but I have to be careful too because he's Canelo. He's not he's not like a small boxer.
Robert Garcia sees this matchup as one that could become far more complicated for Canelo Alvarez than many people expect. A fight is not always decided by who looks sharper early on because the ability to absorb punishment and remain competitive can change everything over time. And Billy's tough, man.
He's tough. He's uh he we had a really good fight with uh Lester with Lester. And Lester is also a great fighter.
So, it's going to be interesting to see how Canelo comes back after that beat that beating he took that loss he took. Uh it's a close fight. I was still I still favor uh Canelo, but it's not going to be easy.
And Billy again, like you said, tough guy. I saw him when he fought Lester and everything. Uh oh, is that Van going?
No, not yet. All right, [laughter] cool. Uh, I saw when he fought Lester, I felt Lester could have done a couple things.
He would have won that fight. Canelo may enter with the experience and technical skills needed to control the action. But facing an opponent who refuses to fade can create serious problems.
As the rounds pass, the physical demands could increase, forcing Canelo to work harder than anticipated. Garcia's perspective suggests that this challenge deserves careful consideration, especially if the contest develops into a long, exhausting battle. Do you think and Billy is the right opponent to bring Canelo back?
Because I remember last time even when the Crawford fight happened, you were questioning, not questioning, but you mentioned Canelo's want, Canelo's grit, Canelo's a drive for fighting. Do you think this is the type of fight him taking this fight? Him taking this fight shows that he really wants to show.
He could have taken another another fight, a kickboxer like Usyk did. He didn't. He's coming back against one of the best in the division against the toughest guy for a world title.
So So I think Canelo's He's hungry to prove that he's still up there, that he still belongs up there. So, that's good. We got to give him respect for that cuz he could have easily taken an easy comeback fight.
Easy. If you were booking uh Mexico versus the world, who would you put as the co-main event? I think I think uh Monga, maybe Shira, that's a huge fight, but I would love Monga versus uh versus uh Lester Martinez.
Canelo Alvarez's recent career decisions are raising serious questions about what is truly motivating him at this stage of his boxing journey. Rather than focusing on delivering exciting matchups that satisfy his loyal supporters, his choices increasingly give the impression that financial rewards are taking priority now to take him out of that market and then put him across the world 15 18 hour flight from a lot of places in in America. that was already going to be problematic, if you will.
[music] Like, I understand it. The Saudis, they got the purse for him. He left PBC.
They're the ones paying. So, they can stage it wherever they want. I'm just talking about from a business perspective.
While it might align with the Saudis goals and what they're trying to do, the rest of boxing has to suffer because it makes it exponentially harder for diehard Canelo fans where in the market that he actually like made his name and made most of his money, right? It makes it more challenging, if you will, for people to go watch him. The relocation of his fight to Saudi Arabia and the changes surrounding his schedule have only added to the growing criticism.
For a fighter who has reached Canelo's level of fame, fans naturally expect more than big paydays. They want memorable fights against deserving opponents. However, his latest moves leave the impression that business interests matter more than giving the audience the contests they want to see.
When a superstar reaches this point in his career, every decision shapes his legacy. Canelo must consider whether he wants to be remembered for the fights he delivered or the money he earned. Canelo has been on record saying, "I'm a prideful Mexicano, you know, Mexican fighter, and I want the Mexican dates.
" You had an opportunity to snatch him from Floyd Mayweather when you fought him, and then it would have been a passing of the torch. Very similar to when Julio Cesar Chavez senior gave the opportunity to Oscar De La Hoya and De La Hoya the golden boy beat Chavez twice to be stamped as a new cash cow. Canelo was given that opportunity.
Floyd was the old dog. He was 36, 37 and Canelo was a hot 23 year old and you had an opportunity and you came up wild short and Floyd beat the brakes off you. But then when Floyd pretty much retired, you still had an opportunity because of your popularity.
You fought the likes of Miguel Cotto, had a had a good resume, later fighting Triple G. Canelo for all intents and purposes, he got secondhand Mexican dates, right? He didn't get it from actually dethroning the person that had him.
Meanwhile, Canelo Alvarez has made it clear that he wants to face a champion who has earned the right to share the ring with him. Rather than choosing an opponent simply to generate attention, Canelo appears focused on securing a matchup that carries genuine sporting value. For him, facing a deserving champion would provide an opportunity to test his abilities against someone who has proven himself at the highest level.
Such a fight would also give fans a meaningful contest to look forward to. With both fighters having something significant to prove, Canelo's position suggests he wants a challenge worthy of his status and legacy in boxing. Is his style of fighting one of the reasons you chose him because he is known for coming straight forward.
No, you know, I love that style and and he's strong. because he's going to come [music] forward and I love that style because it's going to be a lot of action and and I [music] think you can you can fight a better fight. So, and yes, I love [music] it.
You're coming off a year layoff, a tough defeat, surgery on your elbow. Is there any lingering doubt in the back of your mind that maybe I've lost a step, maybe I'm not quite as good as I was? No, I'm very [music] good.
And Christian, how about you? You're a world champion. Congratulations.
But what does it feel like for you to be sitting across from a living legend? It's honor for me for to fight Canelo. It's a big fight.
I think it's a big fight of my career and I'm very excited and I can't wait to be in the ring. While Canelo Alvarez's upcoming fight is going to take place in Saudi Arabia, Source of Boxing has highlighted Canelo's desire to end his career on home soil in Mexico. Canelo has spoken about the special atmosphere of Estadio Aeka and the possibility of staging a future fight there, giving fans something significant to look forward to.
Source of boxing tweeted, Canelo Alvarez has stated that he would like to have his final fight at Aztec Stadium in Mexico. I want my last fight to be in Mexico. Now that I was there as a fan supporting the national team, I was at Estadio Aka and it's a stadium that gives you an incredible vibe.
I visualized myself fighting there. Alio Ascaraga wanted to talk to me, so we got in touch, had a Zoom call, and explored the possibility of doing a fight there in the future. Meanwhile, Chris Algieri believes constant pressure could be a major problem for an aging champion like Canelo Alvarez.
As fighters get older, maintaining the same pace and responding to relentless attacks can become increasingly difficult, even for someone with Canelo's experience and technical ability. An opponent who keeps coming forward, throws combinations, and refuses to give him breathing room could force Canelo into an uncomfortable fight. Rather than allowing Canelo to dictate the tempo, sustained pressure could test his stamina, reactions, and ability to control exchanges.
For a legendary fighter approaching the later stages of his career, this type of challenge could prove particularly demanding. Paulie said that he doesn't see Canelo getting pasta and Billy. You think the work rate's going to be a little too much for Canelo at this point?
What do you think? I disagree. I I do think Canel is gonna win that fight.
Um, you know, but I I think it's it's gonna be tough because again, work rate is what what bothers old aging fighters, but I think Canel is still sharp enough, still hits hard enough, still is a good counter puncher. Um, but it's going to be a good fight. It's going to be somewhat similar to this actually.
You got a guy who's going to come forward the whole time like Plantic did, you know, Duck in Billy fights, and you got a guy who's going to try and counter punch, make some distance, you know, try and take advantage of any kind of gaps. Um, so yeah, I think uh it's going to be a good fight. But Hamza Shiraz believes Canelo should not be written off just yet, despite the criticism surrounding his recent performances.
While some of Canelo's previous fights have raised questions about whether he is past his best, that does not mean he has lost everything that made him a dangerous champion, Canelo still possesses considerable punching power, valuable experience, and the ability to change a fight with a single well-timed shot. His recent performances may have made him look less dominant than before, but judging his entire career on those outings would be premature. Shiraz's perspective suggests that Canelo remains a serious threat, and underestimating him could prove to be a costly mistake for any opponent.
I suppose now Canelo is not the Canelo of old. I feel like the super middleweight division isn't as strong as it used to be. Yeah, it's open.
It's definitely open. Um, [music] it's still good to have him in the division. I still believe I don't believe that he's fully finished.
So, I just think the last couple runs of opponents he had weren't beneficial to making him look as good as he normally does because listen, you had William Skull who just running for 12 rounds and then you got Terrence Crawford, one of the greats. Do you know what I mean? And it's just I reckon that's all it was.
I still think he's got it. I do still think Canelo's got it and I believe we'll see that against him. Do you reckon he'll do a job on Yeah, I reckon he'll knock him out.
Yeah. No knockout. Yeah.
October one. Are you going to going to be there? Uh, sure.
If listen, if if everything goes well this weekend and I'm not fighting anytime soon, then yeah, I'll definitely be there. Shiraz does not believe Canelo Alvarez is finished despite the doubts surrounding his recent performances. In his view, Canelo's last few outings should be judged in context, as the styles of his opponents made it difficult for him to display his usual strengths.
Shiraz believes Christian Mabilly presents a very different challenge, one that could actually work in Canelo's favor. Mabily tends to come forward rather than rely on constant movement, potentially giving Canelo more opportunities to land his trademark punches. And Billy had a real tough out with Lester Martinez.
Some people thought that could have went the other way. Yeah. How do you see that matching up?
Cuz some people think this could either be the resurgence of Canelo. Yeah. Or Bob Arum at top rank feels pretty confident it's going to be the end of Canelo.
Yeah. I don't see it being the end of end of Canelo. And I I I'll tell you why.
Canelo's last three performances or two performances have been against slick I wouldn't say negative but slick fighters. Uh William Skull very negative. Yeah, very negative.
Um he'd make anyone [music] look bad. Do you know what I mean? He'd make anyone look bad.
And stylistically it wasn't ideal for Canelo. Crawford is Crawford. He's he's a special fighter.
You could put anyone in with him and he's dealing with him. It's as simple as that. I truly believe and Billy is tailor made for Canelo.
He doesn't move his feet. He comes forward. He's there to be hit.
Um and I believe Canelo will get him out of there late. And I think if he doesn't get get him out of there late, he'll have a very comfortable unanimous decision victory. Um, but in an active fight, Shiraz is confident that Canelo has the experience and ability to take advantage of those openings, even predicting that he could secure a late stoppage.
If the fight goes the distance, he also expects Canelo to have a strong chance of winning comfortably on the scorecards. While Nabil's aggression could make the contest entertaining, Shiraz believes Canelo's quality will ultimately prove decisive. He expects the Mexican star to deliver a convincing performance and silence some of his critics.
And Billy's style plays into him since he'll be in your face at all times throwing probably a hundred punches around. Yeah, I was there when he when he um fought Lester Martinez. A great fight.
Respect to both fighters, you know, for giving giving us fans a fight like that. But you kind of just have to base it off that performance. And he hasn't fought since then.
That was a year ago. A year ago today, I think it was. So it's a very, very, very long time.
Both of them are coming off the same little layoff. Exactly. But canola's coming off injury, etc.
, etc. So, I feel like he would have he would have healed and he would come into this fight fresh. He'd be wanting it mentally, physically.
Um, and I believe yeah, he'll get the job done for sure. And I I think he'll I think he'll look good doing it as well. Were you uh surprised at all when after Terrence Crawford beat him that he said, "This is it.
I'm packing it in. " Yeah, I didn't think I thought he'd come out of retirement. I thought I genuinely thought it's to stay retired for a bit and then he'll come back.
But I think he's genuinely content with what he's got out of the sport. That's it for today's video. Stay tuned.
Until next time.
