hey what's up everyone this is Alvin teaches poker and today we are going to talk about how to fix your red line because it's very likely that your graph looks like this and your non-sh Showdown winnings are absolutely catastrophic and you are folding your absolute Soul away and are folding so much that you have absolutely no possible chance of actually beating online poker because you're folding so much that even if you were crushing people at Showdown and you aren't you still would not be beating them at Showdown enough to make up for the fact that
you are playing to fit or fold post flop so first in order to fix your red line let's talk about this from a macro philosophy level you need to win the most percentage of hands and you need to play the most hands possible without spewing so every time that you play a pot against your opponent you're probably going to win about 50% of the time the critical thing is to actually increase that percentage to 52% 53% 54% and as you're one money when soft flop statistic goes up you'll see that your red line is going
to increase in addition to winning the highest percentage of pots you need to play and get in there as often as possible this is what general population stats look like of these losing players who you can see are losing 11 big blinds per 100 if we look at how often these players are raising first it's not enough from the cut off you probably should be raising closer to 29% of the time that extra 4% is probably Night and Day to your win rate because 4% more in terms of absolute hands is like 16% more relative
to what you are opening on the button instead of opening 36% you probably should be opening 42 45% could you imagine if you were raising 9 % more that's 25% more often on the button Additionally you can see that when players are calling open raises they're doing that all the time and calling open raises is something you know I absolutely hate to do and time over time I have dissuaded people from doing that on this channel here we can see how often do players win when they see the Flop and we can see that this
is only 46% I looked into my own database mine is 52% and so increasing how often you win when you see the Flop by 4 to 6% is going to be gigantically beneficial to your bottom line so VP pipping more often with aggression and winning more when you see the Flop are going to be the critical keys to getting your red line up if you want to make sure that your pre- flop game is crispy and that you are not bleeding from the red line you want to play as many pots as possible as the
pre flop aggressor as you know outside of the big blind I really recommend playing a three bet or fold strategy until you get to the higher Stakes where the rake is low enough that you can develop a flatting range in certain positions but generally if you are always getting into the pot as the razor the three better the four better you are going to have a lot more success because not only are you giving your opponent an opportunity to immediately fold their Equity to your raise but then you're often going to see the Flop and
as the uncapped player you get to bet and put the onus of making a hand on your opponent basically every time you press call pre- flop your red line is going to be going down now that doesn't mean you should never call pre- flop there are some instances where the amount of money you're going to win at Showdown is going to overcome the amount of money you lose by folding but those are generally quite rare and selective spots so here we can see that in general the population is calling an open Raise 12% on the
button that number should probably be something like 1% or less I think personally my statistic here is actually 0.1% while my three bet in position is much closer to 11 or 12% here as we can see when players are cold calling on the button they are generally losing except when they're calling really really strong hands like 10 plus but if we're going to be calling with those hands why not three B them which we know are going to be even more profitable you can even see here while top 15% of hands are very very slightly
winning when they cold call you might as well be three betting them because those hands are just going to be much stronger when you play bigger pots and get more value from them we can also see that when you are calling three bets particularly out of position this is generally losing except with your really really strong hands which you probably can form it anyways such as Ace King or pocket Queens so if if you're seeing a lot of flops by cold calling if you're seeing a lot of flops by calling three bets from out of
position you are absolutely getting wrecked not only as a whole but also in terms of folding your life away because I'm sure that after you call you're not going to be having a very good plan to run a lot of post flop Bluffs you're just going to fold way too often facing small bets so if you want to have a better Red Line you don't need to just steal and three bet more but you need to steal more than the entire population so you've seen the stats you know that people are stealing on the button
36% so it is your duty and your job to steal at a higher percentage than that if you want to overcome how often your opponents are stealing from you you should be attempting to push your pre flop aggression to the extremes and pull back rather than start as too conservative and then push forward I think a lot of people misunderstand this and they think oh you know the better I play the more I should be you know expanding my vpip and pfr range well I think the problem is if you start playing very nitty in
the first place you're never actually going to have a good win rate so that you'll be able to move up over time and then develop your skills what this also means is that if you're a nitty pre flop player there is 0% chance that you are going to have a positive Red Line simply because you are going to be folding your life away and you're not going to be stealing from your opponents nearly enough so we know that the second thing that you really need to fix is your one when saw flop again the number
that this should be is at least 50 but preferably even higher than that even at the small Stakes when you're often seeing three to a flop sometimes four to a flop this number should still consistently be over 50% over a large sample so how do we fix this well one of those is kind of built into playing free flop correctly if we're always three betting we're always four betting we're always then betting on the flop because our range advantages allow us to do so this is always going to keep the pressure on our opponents and
give them as many opportunities to fold as possible I know this seems kind of basic but everyone is messing this up so it actually can't be that basic but the real critical thing to having a really good red line is finding every autoprofi Bluff formation and then bluffing it 100% of the time when we talk about players taking exploitative strategies exploring Mass database analysis this is what they mean they're basically comparing a bunch of bet sizes in a bunch of positions in poker and seeing do players overfolded y size and if they do every time
that they have a bluff they can put it into that sizing and automatically make money if you do that hundreds of different spots in poker well then you're going to know all of the spots that you can run Bluffs with any two cards that makes you really really difficult to play against because your opponents are always going to be automatically giving you some money by over folding to you here's a really good example so this is a diagram of how often our opponents fold over a pretty large sample facing various bet sizings and we can
see facing a 25% bet they're generally folding a third of the time slightly more facing the 1/3 bet when we bet half the time they're folding 43% etc etc what is really important is that each of these numbers is higher than the minimum defense frequency that your opponent needs to meet in order for them to deny you an automatically profitable bet now from a GTO perspective your opponent actually should be overfolded in a lot of spots on the Flop to make sure that they are not over folding on future streets but if you actually compare
how often your opponents fold the flops compared to how often they fold versus GTO you'll find that they are consistently overfolded by at least five or six points from a pure minimum defense frequency perspective you can see that often your opponents are overfolded 13 10 11% of the time facing all bet sizes a pot or less that basically means if at any point you have a hand that has absolutely no equity and you intend to check back and fold against weaker opponents it's very likely that you should just close your eyes and bet any size
and cash in on that immediate overfolded players who realize what you're doing they're going to be able to count you and force you to play Closer to equilibria but against the weaker players you should just close your eyes and bet 100% of the time now the real critical thing is that there isn't just flop overfolded in different lines River overfolded in different lines overfolded pots four bet pots multi-way different board textures different bet sizes different combinations of bet sizes sometimes people will over fold if you go small and then large some people over fold if
you go really large on the Flop and then bet anything on the turn sometimes you need to go small and then small and then you'll be surprised to realize that the best bet on the river is small again so you need to be able to collect a lot of data have the Eagle Eye perspective and see how does the population play this is one of the most important things we do over at our research at overnight monster coaching and staking is that we have millions and millions of hands that we can look at across different
sites and see how are all of our opponents playing against various bet sizings and various lines but so in your own database you need to go through find all of the sizings and different spots that your opponents are over folding against and you need to collect them all add them to your game in a very very conscious Manner and sit down in every session say okay I know my opponent folds an X or Y position every time it comes up no matter what hand I have I'm going to Bluff if I have no Showdown Equity
once you start doing that you'll realize that your red line is starting to soar and even though you're going to be getting caught in a lot more more Bluffs you're going to be losing a lot more pots you'll realize as a whole your profits are going to be rising okay so let me give you a little bit of bonus technology show you a sizing that players are not using enough that I think is really good this is what happens when we are in the big blind we defend against an inos razor we check call The
Flop the turn goes check check and we bet a tenth of the pot or we Min bet the river to a very very small amount how does our opponent react at the very top line you can see fcr and it's 225127 so they're folding 22% of the time but if you bet 10% on the river your opponent needs to be defending close to 90% of the time to deny you an autor profit Bluff so as you can see in the upper right hand corner where it says weak if you just close your eyes and bet
one tenth of the pot on the river this is actually going to be a profitable Bluff so just keep in mind this is a bluff that is going to lose 80% of the time but because it is so cheap you could run this play Infinite times and just absolutely print money hope this has been really useful if you want some more information on coaching getting State cash game courses freestyle raps come check us out at overnight monster.com peace out
