uniquely made in God's image Genesis 1: 27 and given the responsibility to rule over the Earth and care for it Genesis 2:15 tells us the the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it among the Lush beauty of the garden God set one clear boundary in Genesis 2: 16 to17 we hear God's command you are free to eat from any tree in the garden but you must not eat from the Tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil for when you eat from
it you will certainly die but this Divine instruction was tested when the serpent described as cunning and deceitful questioned God's word the serpent planted doubt saying did God really say he must not eat from any tree in the garden Genesis chapter 3:1 in a tragic moment of Disobedience Adam and Eve succumb to the Temptation Genesis 3 Verse 6 recounts when the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye and also desirable for gaining wisdom she took some and ate it she also gave some to her husband
who was with her and he ate it this single act of defiance against God's Authority brought devastating consequences their eyes were opened but not to wisdom as they had hoped instead they became aware of their nakedness their vulnerability and their guilt this moment is more than a story of personal failure it is the point at which sin entered the Human Condition Romans 5:12 explains it clearly therefore just as Sin entered the world through one man and death through sin and in this way death came to all people because all sinned Adam's Disobedience did not remain
an isolated event as Humanity's representative his sin was imputed to all introducing a legacy of Brokenness separation from God and mortality despite Adam's failure God's love for Humanity remained unwavering in the midst of judgment in Genesis chapter 3 God gave Humanity a glimmer of hope a promise that would Echo Through the Ages Genesis 3:15 is known as the Proto evangelium the First Gospel and I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your Offspring and hers he will crush your head and you will strike his heel this prophecy spoken directly to the serpent
foretells a cosmic battle between good and evil The Offspring of the woman refers to a singular figure a savior who would ultimately defeat Satan Crush in his head even though he himself would suffer in the process here in the aftermath of Humanity's fall God's Redemptive plan begins to unfold this verse sets the stage for the entire biblical Narrative of redemption throughout scripture we see God's promise to send a deliverer growing clearer and more defined from the beginning it is evident that salvation would come not through human effort but through divine intervention as centuries past past
God revealed more about his Redemptive plan first through Abraham God promised to Abraham that through his descendants all nations would be blessed Genesis 12:3 this foreshadowed the coming of Christ The Descendant through whom salvation would extend to All Peoples second through David God promised an eternal Kingdom saying in second Samuel 7:16 your house and your kingdom will endure forever before for me your throne will be established Forever This pointed to the Messiah the Eternal King third through the prophets God gave vivid descriptions of the coming savior Isaiah foretold the Virgin will conceive and give birth
to a son and will call him Emmanuel Isaiah 7:14 and in Isaiah 53 we see the suffering servant who would bear Humanity's sins from the Proto evangelium to the Fulfillment of the Covenant with Abraham history testifies to God's faithfulness for the ancient Israelites these promises were not just theological ideas but Living Hope despite their cycles of rebellion and Exile God continually reassured them that his plan to redeem Humanity was still in motion Jewish tradition held tightly to the expectation of a messiah a figure who would restore what was lost in Eden the prophetic writings preserved
through centuries kept this hope alive guiding Israel and pointing to the ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ unlike the first Adam Jesus Christ came to fulfill what Adam could not in 1 Corinthians 15: 21-22 Paul contrasts the failure of Adam with the victory of Christ for since death came through a man the resurrection of the Dead comes also through a man for as in Adam all die so in Christ all will be made alive Jesus is called the second Adam because he represents a new beginning for Humanity where the first Adam brought sin and death the
second Adam brings righteousness and life let's explore three key ways Jesus accomplished this Monumental task number one obedience to God the first Adam disobeyed God's single command in the Garden of Eden prioritizing his own desires over God's will in contrast Jesus lived life of complete obedience to the father Philippians 2:8 beautifully describes his humility and submission he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death even death on a cross from the beginning of his ministry to his final moments on the cross Jesus demonstrated unwavering obedience In The Garden of Gethsemane facing unimaginable suffering he prayed my
father if it is possible may this cup be taken from me yet not as I will but as you will Matthew 26:39 through his perfect obedience Jesus reversed the Disobedience of Adam restoring the relationship between God and Humanity number two triumph over Temptation Adam's failure began with a Temptation in the Lush Garden of Eden where the Serpent's lies led him to sin Jesus however faced Satan's Temptations in the harsh Wilderness after fasting for 40 days and knights in Matthew 4: 1-1 we see the devil presenting three challenges to turn stones into bread and satisfy his
hunger to test God by throwing himself from the temple to bow down and worship Satan in exchange for Earthly kingdoms each time Jesus responded with the word of God firmly rejecting Satan's lies his victory over Temptation demonstrated his role as the sinless Savior and established his authority over the devil Hebrews 4:15 reminds us for we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses but we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are yet he did not sin where Adam succumbed Jesus triumphed proving he was
the perfect unblemished Lamb of God number three atonement for sin the most profound way Jesus fulfilled what Adam could not was through his atoning death Adam's sin brought guilt and condemnation to all Humanity Isaiah 53:5 prophesied the messiah's sacrifice but he was pierced for our transgressions he was crushed for our iniquities the punishment that brought us peace was on him and by his wounds we are healed on the cross Jesus bore the full weight of Humanity's sin and absor ABB the punishment we deserved his blood was the payment that satisfied God's justice reconciling us to
the father Romans 5: 19 declares for just as through the Disobedience of the one man the many were made Sinners so also Through The Obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous through his death and Resurrection Jesus defeated sin and death securing eternal life for all who place their faith in him Jesus title as the second Adam reflects his role as the representative of a new Humanity just as Adam's failure had Universal consequences Jesus victory has Universal implications for those who believe in him through him we are no longer defined by the
curse of sin but by the gift of grace through his resurrection Jesus Christ not only secured forgiveness for our sins but also guarantees the restoration of all that was lost in Adam this restoration goes beyond individual Redemption it encompasses the renewal of the entire created order the curse that began in Eden will one day be fully reversed as described in Revelation 21: 1: to4 then I saw a new Heaven and a new Earth for the first Heaven and the first Earth had passed away and there was no longer any sea I saw the holy city
the New Jerusalem coming down out of Heaven from God prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying look God's dwelling place is now among the people and He will dwell with them they will be his people and God himself will be with them and be their God he will wipe every tear from their eyes there will be no more death or Mourning or crying or pain for the old Order of Things has passed away this passage paints a breathtaking picture of God's ultimate plan to
dwell with his people in a restored creation free from the effects of sin and death This Promise of restoration is Central to the Christian faith the resurrection of Jesus is the first fruits of this new creation 1 Corinthians 15: 20-23 just as Jesus's glorified body was raised imp perishable so too will the redeemed experience Resurrection Life in a perfected world in Romans 8: 19- 21 Paul writes the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed for the creation was subjected to frustration not by its own choice but by the will
of the one who subjected it in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to Decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God this restoration is Cosmic in scope every trace of sins coruption disease disaster Decay will be undone the Earth itself will be transformed into a place of perfect Beauty and peace reflecting God's glory what does this mean for us today first it gives us hope in a world filled with suffering we can hold on to the promise that pain and death will not have the final
word as 2 Corinthians 4:1 17 reminds us for our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all second it calls us to live in anticipation of this future reality Peter writes in 2 Peter 3: 13 to14 but in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new Heaven and a new Earth where righteousness dwells so then dear friends since you are looking forward to this make every effort to be found spotless blameless and at peace with him him living in light of This Promise means aligning
our lives with God's purposes sharing the gospel and stewarding his creation Faithfully the vision of a renewed Earth has inspired Believers throughout history early church fathers like irenaeus wrote extensively about the resurrection and the restoration of creation emphasizing that God's work of redemption would not only save Souls but also renew the physical world medieval theologians saw the hope of rest ation is Central to their understanding of Salvation history while modern Scholars highlight its relevance in a World Grappling with environmental and social Brokenness in Christ we are given a glimpse of the future a future where
death is defeated tears are wiped away and joy Reigns Eternal This Promise is not just a distant dream it is the anchor of our faith and the source of our strength in the present revelation 22: 1-2 describes the river of the Water of Life flowing from God's Throne bringing healing to the Nations on each side of the river stood the Tree of Life bearing 12 crops of fruit yielding its fruit every month and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the Nations this imagery connects Back to Eden showing that what was lost
through Adam is now fully restored through Christ so what does the truth of Jesus as the second Adam mean for us today Paul provides a powerful answer in Romans 5:1 17 for If by the trespass of the one man death reigned through that one man how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of Grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ this verse reminds us that through faith in Jesus we are no longer bound by Adam's failure instead we are made new empowered to live in
obedience to God filled with his grace and called to share the hope of redemption with the world the fall of Adam brought the reign of sin and death into the world but through Jesus the second Adam Believers are set free Romans 6:14 declares for sin shall no longer be your master because you are not under the law but under grace this means that the power of sin is broken in the lives of those who trust in Christ we no longer have to live as slaves to our old sinful nature instead we walk in the freedom
and newness of life that Jesus offers Galatians 5:1 encourages us it is for Freedom that Christ has set us free stand firm then and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery through Jesus we are not only forgiven we are transformed 2 Corinthians 5:1 17 reminds us therefore if anyone is in Christ the new creation has come the old has gone the new is here as New Creations in Christ we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live in obedience to God this means walking in righteousness growing in Holiness and reflecting
the character of Christ in our daily lives Jesus himself said in John 14:12 very truly I tell you whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing and they will do even greater things than these because I'm going to the father we are called to live with purpose using our gifts to serve God and bring his love to others the truth of Jesus as the second Adam compels us to share this hope with others in Matthew chapter 28: 19 to2 Jesus gave the Great Commission therefore go and make disciples of all Nations
baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have Comm commanded you sharing the gospel is not just a task it is a natural response to the transformative power of Christ in our lives we have been entrusted with the greatest message of hope that through Jesus anyone can be reconciled to God set free from sin and made new finally the truth of Jesus as the second Adam gives us hope for the future in him we have the promise of eternal life
a restored relationship with God and the joy of living in his presence for forever as Paul writes in Philippians 3: 20- 21 but our citizenship is in heaven and we eagerly await a savior from there the Lord Jesus Christ who by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body this eternal perspective transforms how we live today we can endure trials with patience love others sacrificially and live boldly for Christ knowing that our ultimate hope is secure in him this
truth is not just for us to know it is for us to live we are called to walk in Freedom knowing we are no longer slaves to sin pursue Holiness empowered by the spirit to reflect Christ in our lives share the gospel inviting others into the life-changing hope of Jesus live with joy looking forward to the day when God will make All Things New through Jesus the second Adam we have not only a restored relationship with God but also a mission to be his light in a dark world thank you for joining us today if
