and congratulations on the uh special it premiered uh in just in time for the family to gather around Netflix and watch it on Thanksgiving weekend I think I ruined more thanksgivings than small pox yeah it's not not for the kids necessarily maybe not Grandma either no no no one really should be watching it but everyone has to watch it you've been doing standup which is crazy to think about this for 20 years now 22 years 22 years it was a 2ye tour and I don't if you remember this Jimmy you were instrumental in me making
it this far I was in what way you were the first person to ever put me on TV that's okay great and in the very beginning I didn't know if I could get on TV my jokes were all about killing children I thought I thought I'm just going to be like a niche performer and then one night I was at Largo and I got off stage and I hear this guy go great set and I turn I look and it's you you're wearing a hat you're like Incognito and you go I go oh thank you
Jimmy that's that's great to hear and you go we gotta have you on the show and I go oh thank you I I'm I'm working with people on your show I'm talking to them we're going to look at a set and kind of edit it down and the whole time I realized I'm talking to you you're just going like this and I go what and you go it's my show and this was a Monday night and on Wednesday night I premiered on Jimmy Kim well we didn't want to waste any time you know I was
worried Conan might swoop in and take you from me you know well yeah yeah that's right because well you've been doing stand up exactly as long as we've been doing the show and then you moved to New York shortly after that correct yeah I moved to New York and I I wrote you an email cuz you would you would ask me to write jokes for you writing for the SPs or you were doing something for like I was hosting the SPs I would write jokes and you would give me money that I needed that money
so when I moved to New York I wrote you an email and I was like hey Jimmy thank you for everything you've ever done for me you've been huge I just want to let you know I'm taking a writing job in New York I'm going to be here for why I can't help you out anymore and he wrote back to me and you said thank you very much for the email I appreciate it but just so you know you belong in front of the camera oh and I never forgotten you didn't have to do that
oh but you reached out and you crushed my [Applause] dreams all I wanted to do is be a writer I could be wearing all hemp right now sitting backstage thinking of ways to ruin the business every 12 years instead I'm a star I know it's oh you think the writers for this show are still here no no they they're long gone they've gone home I didn't know you had writers oh yes yes there are a couple of them you uh well I think I was right I really do uh you know and that's true I
do remember that I also remember when I paid you for the jokes you were shocked that you got paid I was like what do you think I just wanted you to do this for me as a favor I mean that's what Jeff Ross [Applause] does you um you are uh you did a 27 date tour of all different countries and talking countries where most of the people don't speak where were you what countries were you in I was everywhere I was like Australia India uh I went to like Hong Kong I went to Athens London
everywhere I went everywhere that and that's it was that's something that you were like you saw as a challenge to go to like Hong Kong and it's something that sounded like a good idea at the time uhhuh and then I'm just in a hotel room in Hong Kong like trying not to break any rules and I'm like I got to get the hell out of here and you took all those trips on Spirit Airlines correct that was a uh your I wish I had taken Spirit Airlines really I splurged I was like I want to
get I want what's the best flight you can get and it's like United Emirates I was flying back from India after the Indian tour I'm like I'm going to spoil myself and I got food poisoning for 17 hours and it's one of those first classes where you have your own bathroom oh so I could throw up in privacy for 17 hours it was the worst travel experience of my life that does not sound great at all no yeah yeah 17 hours of vomiting is no good but at least you had your own bathroom I've never
seen your own bathroom in a plane like that well if you saw it it' be covered in puke J what um of the places that you went what was the best and which was not the worst I mean there were so many great places like Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities in the world I absolutely love it but they had me in this weird theater they had me in a place called The Amsterdam theater it's beautiful and I'm like they're like this is an interesting place I'm like why they go we made this 10
years ago just to show One play every night I was like oh what play The Diary of Anne Frank every night and after four years somehow this business failed and so now they do comedy shows wow in the theater that I cannot stress enough is not built for laughter yeah and I'm not making fun of the die of Van Frank I'm like you guys if I had been alive back then I would have found her immediately yeah that was uh those were some weird shows did the craziest place I played the craziest place you can
go in the world was Glasgow really been to Glasgow Scotland no in Glasgow they slash your face what do you what if two people get into a fight in Glasgow the fight's not over until someone face gets slashed and then everybody goes home friends they don't have the tooth fairy in Glasgow if you lose a tooth you put it under your pillow you go to sleep you wake up someone slashed your face they when you say slash your face you mean like the Joker uh deal yeah just like that go to the lip boom face
slashed that's a thing there they love it it's like their National Pastor that's a remind me not to go there who took care of your dog I know you have a dog uh while you were all over the world I got a dog during the pandemic and I've rescued a dog I when I say rescue I don't mean I got a free dog I mean I got a dog from Korea it was rescued in Korea and was sent to me really yes and he does not like new people so I couldn't put him away when
I went on the road I had to hire a full-time assistant just to watch the dog while I'm gone you hired a full-time dog watch her yeah and that person watched the dog sufficiently I guess and I mean he's still alive and she's never been bit and then when you came home you fire the person that watches the dog no she's been so good that I still want someone to walk in the morning uhhuh but I'm very passionate about dogs nudging where I feel like if you got a dog during the pandemic okay and then
you gave the dog back yeah you should never be allowed to own an animal again agreed yes I agree if you got a dog during the pandemic and you abandoned that dog you should go to jail if you adopted a dog during the pandemic and you outlive your dog if you die before the dog does you should go to hell I talked to the pope about it he said cool he said whatever oh well if you talk the you you're the one that's been around the world well it's great to see you congratulations on the
