these four things are scientifically shown to make you faster the fastest humans in the world already do them and if we copy them we can do the same we're privilege to see this man in action this is legendary Pro bodybuilder Kevin levrone in 2002 he challenged Maurice Green to a race who at the time was the fastest man in the world now why would a pro bodybuilder now ifbb Hall of Famer challenge a world champion Sprinter tell me why why are you doing this what what made you want to race good at running and uh
today I'm just going to show the world you know what I mean you going smok what I got babe far as smoking either way mauce green never took him up on that offer but someone else did Dwayne Chambers one of the fastest European sprinters in history to this day he holds the fastest 60 m in Europe in 2002 both of these guys were in their Prime the race took place in California on December 11th 2002 it was a 60 M race and surprising ly they even use starting blocks which let's be honest that alone is
impressive I mean would you ever imagine a guy that looks like this to voluntarily get into starting blocks much less against a champion Sprinter it's definitely not something you see every day in terms of the race itself well Kevin had an explosive start stumbled and then it played out exactly how you would imagine the reason I'm sharing this story with you is because it relates to one of the biggest factors in sprinting transferring your strength into speed it's safe to say Kevin lone had plenty of strength and it did help him produce an explosive start
although obviously his training and physique is not optimized for Speed the fastest humans in the world may not be the strongest but they are very effective at transferring their strength into speed this is because of how they use their strength a good example of this is asafa power not only is he strong he's also insanely fast many would argue that he has one of the most powerful starts in the history of Athletics the reason he is very effective at converting his strength into speed is because of the direction of force application simply put in the
acceleration he is a master of applying horizontal forces which has been shown in numerous studies to lead to better acceleration times in fact this study even states that how forces are applied is even more important than how much speaking of very strong one of the strongest sprinters is none other than using Bol he's reportedly able to apply vertical Peak Force forces of up to five times his body weight this is another thing that all the fastest humans do apply high peak forces this all you seeing both to reach Peak speeds of 27.78 mph when he
set the 100 meter world record in 2009 because he was able to reach such high peak speeds he could fumble a start and still win which is exactly what he did in 2015 your same both stumbled out of the blocks fell behind everyone else and still one won the race in the end this shouldn't be possible one of the reasons he's able to do this is because of his top speed another reason is because how insanely effective he is at maintaining that speed which leads us to the fourth Factor the ability to decelerate less than
everyone else as you may or may not already know towards the end of a race it appears as though the person in the lead is increasing their speed more than everyone else however this is just an illusion in reality everyone is slowing down it's just the winner decelerates less than everyone else the reason Carl Lewis came first was that he could almost defy the law of sprinting it was his signature quality that that car would decelerate much at a much slower rate than everyone else for example this data shows that in 2008 during the 100
meter world record using boat hit its top speed and held it for 30 m in other words producing large amounts of force converting it into speed by applying those forces in the right Direction and decelerating less than everyone else are four things that will lead to faster times all right I hope you're still following because here is where it gets even better I'm going to show you how you can figure out how effective you are at each of these factors through a scientific method called the force velocity profile if you watched my last video about
the force velocity curve then you already know what I'm talking about as promised in this video I'm going to make my own fvp if you're training an any sport that requires you to run fast such as football baseball or rugby this is one of the most valuable things that you can do to improve your speed and don't take my word for it it's backed by multiple studies as a useful tool to improve Sprint performance here is how you can do it yourself in the last video I mentioned that we can use the my Sprint app
to create our own force velocity profile it's not free and no I don't make any money from it currently it's just the best option because it's backed by science as a reliable method although if you do want to do it yourself for free there will be a way to do that in the description just to warning it does require a bit more work to perform the assessment I first set up the markers which should be placed strategically because you know when you're filming you're going to have a bit of distortion depending on where the subject
is in the frame and don't worry the app will outline exactly how to do this second I set up my phone on a tripod off to the side third I perform the Sprints fourth I use the app to Mark each of my splits finally the app produces the calculations revealing your force velocity profile all right here's where it all comes together remember the four things I mentioned in the beginning high peak forces direction of force application ability to convert strength into speed and the ability to decelerate less well the numbers we see here reveal how
effective we are at each of these four factors once you have this data yourself you will also know what you have to focus on in your training if you'd like me to make another video in this series that goes over the science of how to Target each of these factors let me know in the comments for now if You' like more information you can go sign up for the Sprint letter this is my official email newsletter by signing up you'll get the Sprint Essentials which is a detailed guide of key exercises scientifically shown to make
you faster you'll get this entirely for free because this is only a sample of something bigger that I'm working on anyways if you enjoyed this video then click here to watch this one next because after everything you just learned this one will show you how to apply some of that information so click here to watch that one next
