Let's shake hand. Unguarded meat. Just as expected, Tyson is right in the chest of a ball.
A towering giant, tough, powerful, and relentless who never knew how to quit. That's exactly the kind of opponent Mike Tyson faced at just 20 years old. You just better look out.
I'm ready. I'm coming to take it. I'm coming to take him out.
All of us doing our job 100% the result before going to conclusion. There's no way we could fail. We must succeed.
Jose Rabalto was a dangerous fighter feared by everyone who stepped into the ring. But once he stepped into the ring with Mike, he was knocked out decisively. Oh, what a shot.
After José Ribalta's amateur record, it showed power and skill. and he later achieved multiple knockouts and defeated former champion Leon Spinx. But the number two amateur in the world decided not to wait around and compete at the 1984 Olympics.
In an effort to help raise money for his family, Jose Rabalta turned pro in 1982. Three years later, he faced top ranked heavyweight James Bone Crusher Smith. James Bone Jose with a record of 16 wins, one loss, and a draw, faced his first real test.
Jose versus Rick Keller. Jose has performed very well and recorded four knockouts in his record. All four KOs coming in the first five rounds impressively.
Far from the prying eyes and the glitz and glamour of the television cameras, Jose Ribala has quietly gotten back to work. He's added four straight knockouts to his record and all came within the first five rounds. In the eyes of his camp, Raba is now getting the fundamentals that he had lacked in the past.
His camp feels ready. They feel the man is ready for Mike Tyson. Jose Rabbalta has fought Leon Spinx and won in a professional boxing match held in the United States.
But experts believed he had no chance of winning against 20 years old Mike Tyson. Well, I looked at Jose Rabbalta's chances today. I found no chance.
With all the ifs and what's I could put together, I still found no way, Ray Leonard, that this man could win the fight. It doesn't seem to be a question of if. It just seems to be a question of when.
But what about Mike Tyson? Is there a tendency to perhaps overlook a guy like Rebalta? Well, you know, Barry, unfortunately, it's happened in the past and it can happen tonight, but for Mike Tyson, I think that's such a remote possibility because of his attitude.
And the reason I say that because he's a man with a mission to become champion. Mike has not tested himself yet at 20. He wants to give himself a hard time.
The reason it's healthy is that Mike Tyson, after all, hasn't beaten any top opponents. his vaunted punch hasn't been tested against the best in the heavyweight division. And healthy also as a response to some of the media hysteria already tabbing this 20-year-old Tyro as a certain future great.
All of that still has to be proved. The Mike Tyson fight became symbolic for the Latin community, believing Jose could defeat Tyson and become a national star. I think the the the Latin community down here in Miami, I think, is looking for a star right now.
Um, you know, they got the Jose Conco of the the Oakland AS, which the Cuban people really took over. That's all they talk about in eight streets about Jose Conco. Um, now, you know, they talk about some fighters in the city, but I feel that if Jose Raldi can beat Mike Tyson the way I know he's going to beat him, he's going to become a star across the country, not only across the country, Miami.
I think that's what people are looking for. Jose entered an intense training camp with a strict diet and discipline to prepare for the challenge against Mike Tyson. So, all that's left for Jose Robalta to do is, as the song says, go and get it.
When you're facing Mike Tyson, however, that's probably a lot easier said than done. One thing is certain, the Rebalta family has provided the support and nurturing that Jose feels he must have. During training camp, he dropped 11 lbs.
So he immediately picked himself up, packed his bags, and headed straight home to mom. I just miss that home cooking and that and that family warmth really that I miss. I just feel really it's just time for a Cuban champion and really somebody, you know, speak up for the Cubans now.
Really, that's there for that's what I'm, you know, boxing, too. I'm doing it for Cuban people and especially for me. That's what I'm doing for really.
And you know, I'm I'm going to fight tight. I'm just going to go out there and give it my best. You know, a major height difference existed with Jose standing 6'6 in while Mike Tyson was 5'11 in creating massive pre-fight height.
Very, very dedicated. Here's a look at the tail of the tape. And of course, the only number that jumps out at you is the number on reach, but it was Angelo Dundy who said, "Don't give me height and reach.
Give me a guy who can fight. " Yeah. I think the only thing that's overstated about Tyson is his height, which is I think closer to 5'9 than 5'11 and 3/4.
It is true there's a lot of hype about the man. Jose looked confident before the fight began, but once the bell rang, Tyson immediately pressured him with strong body shots to tie him up when he's inside, not to try exchange, punch punch. He can't do that.
And that was a right hand by Tyson that at least got the attention of Roberto. Tyson landed a clean left hand directly on Jose's face, showing his speed and precision early in the bout. I haven't been impressed with the way that Tyson has developed as a fighter.
Left hand knocks. Despite Jose's height advantage, it failed to slow Tyson's aggressive pressure and constant forward movement during exchanges. It's going to take a great deal of weighing down on a tall man like Baltimore.
Tyson pushed Jose onto the ropes in round one, unleashing continuous punches and overwhelming him with relentless pressure. Again, just tremendous body shots and what an uppercut. Round two started strongly with Tyson maintaining control, closing the distance quickly, and continuing his aggressive attacking rhythm.
They didn't get enough. Kevin Rooney in Tyson's corner saying, "Keep the jab down. " Tyson's speed and body shots forced Jose into defensive positions while he countered with sharp short punches.
One thing about Tyson, he has speed punches a great deal of power. Being somewhat effective with the jab. Due to the height difference, Tyson eventually grabbed Jose and controlled him in close range grappling exchanges.
Tyson, respect him. I see a mistake that is making. He's doing his jab and at times it land, but you notice the way that he comes back.
Tyson delivered a powerful uppercut that knocked Jose down in round two. Though Jose quickly managed to stand up again. So, right count right hand by Mike Tyson is invited.
And there was an uppercut. What a shot. After getting up, Jose fought back with renewed speed and determination, attempting to regain control of the fight.
They took him off the ground. It really did. [cheering] Trying to bang with Tyson and gets in round three.
Jose tried to avoid Tyson's punches using movement and defense to survive the pressure. [cheering] Jose attempted an uppercut, but Tyson expertly slip the punch, avoiding danger with precise defensive movement. Round four began with continued exchanges.
Both fighters showing determination and refusing to back down. Oh no. In round five, Jose landed several punches, but they had little effect on Tyson's iron-like defense.
Oh no. Just for your information, Ray. Jose tried to clinch Tyson to slow his rhythm, but Tyson quickly broke free and resumed his attack.
In round nine, both fighters attempted to slow each other down, exchanging controlled but intense punches. He's tired. And now that Tyson almost to his counter, Tyson's really taking his time here, measuring his shots.
Seconds remaining here in the ninth round. And it appears as if Jose Repalta will survive yet another storm. In round 10, Tyson knocked Jose down with a strong combination, leaving him unable to recover fully.
Oh, what a shot. And Ralph is down. Although Jose stood up again, Tyson continued relentless punches, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
Hell yeah. That's a fighter. And that's it.
I want to say that there's no way. Mike Tyson was declared the clear winner of the fight against the much larger opponent. The time one minute and 37 seconds of the 10th round.
Referee stops the bow. Winner by TKO, Mike Tyson. [cheering] After the fight, Mike Tyson stated he felt confident throughout and respected Jose's toughness and resilience.
Very enough. He had his mind concentrated. He was going to fight and he did well and I commend him very dearly.
What made him so tough? The fact that he fought back unlike the other fighters who've taken you this far? Most definitely.
He fought back and he had um the idea in his mind he wasn't going to get knocked out. But as you notice, he was knocked down but wasn't knocked out because he had his mind conscious of that. That's it for today's video.
