when I went to University my parents were they were very generous really they offered to pay for my first Year's accommodation in Halls of residence fully catered it was fine by me because it saved me worrying about it so I applied for a place and I was given a room in an all-female Hall which I was a bit annoyed about because that wouldn't have been my first choice to be honest but when I rang up the accommodation and asked if I could change they said they couldn't or wouldn't so I went along with it it
wasn't a particularly nice place and I was on the basement level down this rabbit Warren of corridors and it was really noisy and too hot for my liking a few other girls moved into other accommodation buts well it didn't seem worth the hassle the place was convenient walking distance from my department and I didn't have to think about meals I just had to see my laundry I knew it wouldn't be forever so I stuck it out I kept myself to myself most of the time I dare say people thought I was a bit odd sitting
by myself at meal times but I could come and go as I pleased so it suited me I couldn't wait to move away from home and experience the university lifestyle my parents were all worried about whether I'd be able to look after myself properly but I said sure sure I'll be fine and paid no attention to them I was in a self-catering hall of residence right in the middle of Campus next to the student bar it was nice it had a private bathroom and a shared kitchen which was cleaned once a week by air cleaner
poor woman looking back I feel really sorry for her because we left the place in a real mess I can't remember washing it once but then I mostly ate microwave meals because I couldn't be bothered to cook as for laundry I didn't do that either I just went home every now and then with a huge bag of dirty washing and handed it to my mom if I ran out of clean clothes I just bought more I ran up huge credit card bills and had to get a second student loan but I wouldn't change a thing
the people along my Corridor were a great laugh we had some Mega parties I guess we weren't very mature but who wants to be at University for my first year at University I moved into a shared house I'd chosen that over Halls of residence because I thought it'd be quieter uh it was just across the road from my department so I thought it would be ideal but I knew from the second I arrived that I was going to hate it there were six people in the house all together and the others were all so noisy
that I couldn't bear it they had no consideration for anyone they kept their music on really loud had parties on any day of the week and smoked like chimneys so the place sang if I asked them to keep it down so I could sleep or study they would be really rude and sometimes aggressive and they left the place in a real mess and I wasn't prepared to wash up and clean the bathroom for them but sometimes I had to just to be able to prepare a meal it got to the point where I couldn't take
it any longer and I went home I almost quit the course but my mum helped me to find somewhere else to spend the rest of the Academic Year I lodged with an old lady called Gladys who made me a cake each week that was far more preferable in my eyes and it wasn't far from campus either
