as of October 6th of 2024 there are currently 47 volcanoes which are actively erupting around the planet a total which is one less than were erupting last week one of these erupting volcanoes is the famous fuo strata volcano in Guatemala whose name justifiably translates to fire this volcano is one of the most active in Central America and frequently produces volcani to strolean explosions these are often associated with Ash emissions pyrolytic and thrown bombs of lava which is likely where the fire in its name originated from and now here are this week's top volcano related news
stories in Japan the alert level was raised at the iati sun volcano a complex which has not erupted in more than a century and which approximately 20,000 people live in close proximity to Meanwhile in Indonesia it was detected that magma is once again intruding underneath a section of the ruing volcano made in Infamous by its destructive vii5 eruption that occurred earlier this year in April and and what is this week's top story the most potentially dangerous volcano on the planet aka the to volcano erupted more than 20 times this week marking its highest number of
distinct eruptive events in two years what made these eruptions all the more interesting is the fact that two of them one on October 2nd and one on October 5th actually ejected small fragments of lava Al be it these fragments almost instantaneously fragmented into fine particles of Ash this is because when the magma contacted the highly acidic Crater Lake which has a pH of 0.2 the water The Hot Rock contacted instantaneously flash to steam and exploded fragmenting the material the other 19 explosions which occurred did not have a magmatic component being simply caused by indirect heating
of Water by deeper magma in what are known as ftic explosions in fact all of the last 10 days have seen some form of volcanic eruption occur within T Central Crater Lake with between one and six explosions occurring every day each of these explosions originated from the same small vent which is situated in the north central portion of to's main Crater Lake several of these explosions even generated short distance pyrolytic flows which remain confined to the same crater W to all is truly undergoing a 2-year high and eruptive activity its earthquake and sulfur dioxide emissions
are still fairly low this suggests that there is only a small amount of potentially eruptible magma in the shallow subsurface meaning that while more eruptions are likely during the next several days to weeks they are likely to be similarly small heading over to Indonesia I would like to bring everyone's attention to the ruing volcano which wiped out all structures on an island and damaged thousands more on another Island through falling a ejecta and lamp this all occurred through a two-phase eruption comparable in size to the 1980 eruption of Ming Helens with this occurring earlier this
year on April 17th and April 30th while the runup to this volcano's major eruption was incredibly rapid its draw down after the fact took a bit longer it wasn't until May 18th that its alert level was lowered back to Yellow from Red well due to peculiarities in that eruption there was speculation and some evidence that three neighboring Islands might not only represent sections of a hidden large Cera but also that a large magma chamber likely underlies both Ru and taling Islands well it appears that this deeper magma chamber is refilling once again as indicated by
more than two dozen volcanic earthquakes striking along long site a long duration spasmodic trimmer on September 30th however this does not appear to be occurring directly under neath the ring volcano suggesting that a third explosive episode of this volcano is for now quite unlikely this refilling process could continue for years without anything of note occurring and in Japan the alert level was raised at the atisan volcano which is situated 21 km Northwest of the city of moroka its alert level was raised from white to Yellow specifically due to continuous ground deformation likely indicating the arrival
of new manga Adept since last February this occurred alongside an increased rate of earthquakes and both the deformation and rate of earthquake slowly increased month over month yet in the last 2 weeks something changed suddenly a different type of ground uplift was detected indicating a much shallower Source suggesting that magma might now be intruding up the magma conduit of the yakush hadaki cone as a result there's a chance that the largey Baltic IND site awati Sun volcano could produce its first eruption since 1919 this is why a 2 km exclusion Zone exists in all directions
