I saw a great movie about time travel last night. The lead character went back in time to live a simpler life without technology. I'd love to do something like that, wouldn’t you?
No way! We live in the best time of human history, and a big part of that is the amazing technology that we have at our fingertips. But don’t you think that people are way too addicted to their smartphones?
Everywhere I look, people are clicking, swiping, and tapping away without paying any attention to the outside world. Sure, some people get addicted to technology, but people get addicted to a lot of things. Don’t let them destroy the technology for you.
These devices, along with tablets, laptops, and the internet in general allow you to learn anything at any time. They really are remarkable. I suppose you’re right.
They are pretty amazing. It’s not just smartphones either. There’s so much amazing technology in the world today that would make our lives totally unrecognizable to someone from the past.
Think about things like voice-activated controls for your TV, or Google maps when you’re in your car. If we didn’t have these things, think how much harder life would be. That’s true.
Actually, now that you mention it, I’ve heard about some amazing advances in medical technology recently, too. Like what? Oh, you know, stuff like how they have developed techniques that allow them to inject stem cells directly into your body, which allows injured body parts to recover without the need for surgery.
It’s so cool. I do worry about stuff like cloning and genetic engineering though. You mean ethically?
Yes, it just doesn’t quite sit right with me. It feels like maybe sometimes technology allows us to do things that we do not fully understand the consequences of doing yet.
