Have you ever wondered why you can quote scriptures, attend every service, and know that you are a new creation, yet still feel completely powerless when a real crisis hits your life? Not a small inconvenience, a real crisis, a diagnosis, a financial collapse, a situation where everything in you wants to believe God and yet nothing seems to move. I remember sitting with a man once, a deacon in his church, 23 years saved, knew his Bible better than most pastors I have met.
His business had collapsed overnight, not slowly, overnight. And he sat across from me with this look I have never forgotten. He said, "I know every scripture about provision.
I have taught them. I have preached them. So why does it feel like God is a million miles away right now?
I did not have a quick answer for him because the question he was asking was not a simple one. Millions of believers are living in exactly that state. Not because they are bad Christians, not because they lack sincerity.
They can quote 1 Corinthians 3:16. Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the spirit of God dwells in you? They know it.
They believe it. And yet when they look at their daily lives, they see weakness, defeated by sickness, paralyzed by financial fear, overwhelmed by circumstances that should have no power over someone who carries the creator of the universe inside their spirit. So they ask the question nobody seems to want to answer honestly.
If the Holy Spirit, the same spirit that Romans 8:1 says raised Jesus Christ from the dead is living inside of me, why am I so powerless? I want to give you a real answer today. Not a motivational one, not a theological deflection.
A real answer. The answer is found in one fatal misunderstanding that has quietly crippled the modern church. We have confused having the Holy Spirit with actually communing with the Holy Spirit.
And those are not the same thing. Having the Holy Spirit is a legal reality of your redemption. The moment you were born again, the moment you confessed Jesus as Lord and believed in your heart that God raised him from the dead, the Holy Spirit took up residence inside your recreated human spirit.
That is settled. That cannot be undone. But having him and activating his power are two completely different things.
Think about it this way. You can have a generator sitting in your garage fully fueled, fully functional. capable of powering your entire house.
But if you never connect it, you will sit in the dark. Not because the power is not there, because the connection was never made. That is the condition of most believers today.
The power is there, but the connection has never been established. Now, everything we cover in this teaching is drawn from two of EW Kenyon's most profound works, the hidden man of the heart and the Bible in the light of our redemption. In the hidden man of the heart, Kenyon anchors his teaching in 1 Thessalonians 5:23.
Your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless. Three distinct parts: spirit, soul, body. And his point is that most believers have them completely reversed.
Living body first, soul second, spirit last, if ever. And in the Bible, in the light of our redemption, he builds on Colossians 1:3. Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear son.
not will deliver hath delivered past tense already done a complete redemption from the dominion of Satan including sickness, poverty, fear and defeat. Which means the powerlessness most believers experience is not God's design for them. It is not a test.
It is not discipline from a father teaching them through suffering. Ephesians 3:20 says, "God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us. " Not power he sends from heaven.
Power that works in us, already present, already deposited. The problem is not the supply. The problem is the connection.
And that connection has a name. Kenyon called it fellowship. real daily intentional communion with the indwelling one.
Not crisis prayers, not emergency meetings begging God to send more power. The power is already inside you, sitting in your recreated spirit, waiting for you to turn inward and make contact. Today we are going to show you exactly how to do that step by step, habit by habit, starting with the most important thing you need to understand about how you are actually built.
To understand why most believers never access the power inside them, you first have to understand how you are actually built. Not how the church has described you, not the vague spiritual language that gets used on Sunday mornings. how God actually constructed you according to his own word.
First, Thessalonians 5:23 is one of the clearest statements in all of scripture on this subject. And the very God of peace sanctify you holy, and I pray God, your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless. Three parts in that specific order.
Spirit first, soul second, body third. You are a spirit. You have a soul which is your mind, your will, your emotions.
And you live in a physical body. Those are not interchangeable. They are three distinct realities.
And the order matters enormously. Now, here is where Kenyan's teaching in the hidden man of the heart becomes so sharp. He points out that God designed man to live from the inside out.
The spirit was meant to be in charge. The spirit in fellowship with God was meant to govern the soul and the soul was meant to govern the body. That was the original design.
That was Eden. But when Adam fell, the order collapsed. Spiritual death entered the human spirit and suddenly man found himself cut off from God at the deepest level of his being.
His spirit which was designed to lead went dark and his senses took over. From that moment forward, man began living from the outside in. What he could see, hear, taste, touch, and feel became his primary source of information about reality.
His emotions reacted to his circumstances. His mind tried to make sense of what his senses were reporting. and his spirit, the deepest part of him, had nothing to say because it was spiritually dead.
Now, here is the good news that changes everything. When you were born again, that order was restored. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.
Old things are passed away. Behold, all things are become new. " The recreated spirit is not a patched up version of the old one.
It is brand new. It is alive with the very life and nature of God. 1 Peter 1 23 says, "You have been born again of incorruptible seed by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.
Your spirit is no longer dead. It is no longer cut off from God. The Holy Spirit has taken up residence inside it.
And in your spirit right now is everything you will ever need. Wisdom, strength, healing, provision, peace that passes, understanding, all of it is in there. So why does it feel so inaccessible?
Because even though your spirit was recreated at the new birth, your soul was not automatically renewed. Your mind still carries the old patterns, your emotions still react to what your senses are reporting. And if you have never been taught to live from your spirit, if nobody ever showed you how to access the hidden man of the heart, then you are a new creation on the inside, living like the old man on the outside.
2 Corinthians 5:7 puts the challenge plainly. For we walk by faith, not by sight. Faith is the language of the spirit.
Sight, sense, knowledge is the language of the body. And the believer who has never learned to walk by faith is still being governed by what they can see, feel, and physically experience. This is why the same crisis that destroys one believer barely touches another.
It is not that one has more faith than the other in some mystical sense. It is that one has learned to access the hidden man. They have developed their spirit.
They have built the connection. So when the storm comes and the storm always comes, they are not dependent on what their senses are reporting. They go inward.
They access the one who is greater than any storm. 1 John 4:4 says it directly, greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. He is in you, not around you, not available to you.
In theory, in you right now at this very moment. The question is not whether he is there. The question is whether you have learned to live from where he is.
And that is exactly what the next part of this teaching is going to show you how to do. So now you understand the problem. You are a spirit.
You have a soul. You live in a body. And most believers, despite being genuinely born again, are still living from the outside in, letting their senses govern their spirits instead of the other way around.
The question now is, how do you reverse that? How do you go from a believer who knows the truth mentally to a believer who actually lives from the inside out? The answer is communion.
daily intentional habitual communion with the Holy Spirit. Not crisis prayer, not Sunday morning worship. A consistent daily practice of turning inward to the hidden man of the heart and building the connection that activates everything God has already placed inside you.
And this communion is built through five specific habits. The first habit is feeding your spirit the word of God. Jesus said in John 6:63, "The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life.
" The word of God is not just information. It is not just theology. It is spirit and it is life.
And when you feed it to your recreated spirit, something happens that cannot happen any other way. Kenyon wrote that the word is the food of the spirit. Just as your physical body grows weak without food, your spirit grows weak without the word.
Not weak in terms of losing salvation, weak in terms of losing its ability to lead, weak in terms of losing its voice in your daily life. The believer who feeds their spirit the word daily builds what Kenyon called a word consciousness. A state where Philippians 4:1 19, "My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus feels more solid and dependable than an empty bank account.
" That is not denial of reality. That is a higher reality asserting itself over a lower one. The second habit is conscious acknowledgement of the indwelling one.
Every morning before your phone, before the news, before the demands of the day begin pulling at you, you acknowledge his presence out loud deliberately. You say, "Holy Spirit, you are inside me today. I carry your presence wherever I go.
I am not facing this day alone. " John 14:17 records Jesus saying, "The Spirit of truth dwelleth with you and shall be in you. " He is not a distant God who visits occasionally.
He is the inddwelling one. And the moment you wake up and acknowledge that reality before your senses get a chance to tell you otherwise, you set the tone for everything that follows. I knew a woman once, a widow raising three children on a teacher's salary, who told me this one habit changed her life.
Every morning before her feet hit the floor, she would say, "Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world. " Just that one sentence every single morning, she said, "I stopped feeling like I was fighting alone because I stopped pretending I was. " The third habit is praying in the spirit.
1 Corinthians 14:2 says, "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God, for in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. " When you pray in the spirit, you completely bypass your natural mind and your sense knowledge. You allow the Holy Spirit to give your recreated spirit the exact utterance needed in that moment.
Jude verse 20 builds on this. Building up yourselves on your most holy faith. Praying in the Holy Ghost.
Building up. That is the language of construction. Every time you pray in the spirit, you are adding another layer of strength to your inner man, another layer of sensitivity to the voice of God.
The fourth habit is genuine worship, not performance, not waiting for music to create a feeling. Jesus said in John 4:4, "God is a spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. " True worship is your spirit magnifying the reality of the inddwelling one above every physical circumstance.
When you adore him for who he is, not what you need, something shifts in your inner man that no amount of reasoning can produce. These four habits and the fifth which we cover next are not optional extras for the spiritually advanced. They are the daily maintenance of the connection that keeps the power flowing because power is not something God hands you in a moment of crisis.
It is the natural byproduct of a spirit that has been consistently nourished, consistently developed and consistently in contact with the inddwelling one. Now, the fifth habit, and I want to spend a little more time on this one because I think it is the most neglected and possibly the most powerful of all five. The fifth habit is absolute quietness.
Psalm 46:10. Be still and know that I am God. Not be busy and know that I am God.
Not be productive and know that I am God. Be still. The enemy knows he cannot steal the Holy Spirit from you.
Your redemption is settled. Your salvation is secure. So his strategy is not to take what is inside you.
His strategy is to keep your physical senses so constantly stimulated, so perpetually busy, so relentlessly bombarded with noise and demand and crisis that you never turn inward long enough to make contact with what is already there. Think about the average believer's day. The phone goes on before their feet hit the floor.
News, notifications, messages, the demands of work, the problems of family, the way to finances. From the moment they wake up to the moment they sleep, their outer world is screaming. And somewhere in the middle of all that noise, the still small voice of the indwelling one never gets heard.
First Kings 19:12, God was not in the wind. He was not in the earthquake. He was not in the fire.
He was in the still small voice. He has not changed. The Holy Spirit does not compete with the noise of your circumstances.
He does not shout over your anxiety. He does not force his wisdom into a mind that is racing at a 100 m an hour. He speaks in the still small voice.
And you only hear that voice when you become still enough to listen. This is what Kenyon described in the hidden man of the heart as fellowship. Not a transaction, not a list of requests presented to a divine customer service line, but actual two-way contact.
Your spirit reaching toward the father and the father responding through the inddwelling one with wisdom, with peace, with direction, with the exact thing you need in that moment. Now, here is the spiritual mechanic of what happens when all five habits are consistently practiced. Ephesians 3:20.
Now, unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that workketh in us, according to the power that workketh in us, not the power he sends from heaven, not the power he promises to release when we pray hard enough. the power that workketh present tense active tense in us right now. But here is what most people miss about that verse.
The power is not automatic. It works according to something according to a condition. And that condition is the alignment between your spirit, your soul, and the indwelling one.
Romans 12:2. Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. When your mind is renewed, when your thought patterns begin to align with the word you have been feeding your spirit, the resistance disappears.
Doubt cannot maintain its grip on a mind that has been consistently renewed. Fear cannot dominate a soul that has been consistently yielded to the spirit. And when that alignment happens, the power flows, not as a trickle, as a river.
John 7:38. Jesus said, "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. " Out of his belly, out of the innermost part, not from heaven above, from within.
That is the picture of a believer who has built the connection, who has practiced the five habits, whose spirit is strong, fed, developed, and in constant contact with the indwelling one. From that believer, rivers flow not because they are special, not because they have some gift that others do not have, but because they have done the daily work of communion that most believers never do. And I want to be honest with you about something.
This does not happen overnight. I have sat with people who wanted the power without the practice, who wanted the river without the daily disciplines that keep the channel open. It does not work that way.
And deep down you already know that. But here is what I can tell you. Every single day that you practice these habits, every morning you feed your spirit the word, every time you acknowledge the indwelling one, every moment you carve out for quiet fellowship, you are building something.
Something that compounds, something that gets stronger with every repetition until the day comes when you face the thing that used to destroy you and it doesn't because you are no longer the same person who faced it before. You have been building the hidden man. You have been developing the inner man.
You have been making the connection that most believers never make. And the indwelling one who has been waiting patiently inside your recreated spirit finally has a channel through which he can move. So let me bring everything together with one final thought that I want to leave sitting in your spirit.
The man I told you about at the beginning of this teaching. The deacon 23 years saved his business collapsed overnight. I saw him again about 8 months later.
He looked different not just on the outside. Something had shifted in him at a level I can only describe as foundational. He told me he had started doing something simple.
Every morning before anything else, before the phone, before the news, he would sit quietly and say out loud, "Holy Spirit, you are inside me. You have the wisdom I need. I am listening just that every day for 8 months.
" He said, "I cannot explain what happened. The business situation did not resolve overnight, but I stopped being afraid of it. " And when you stop being afraid of a problem, you start thinking clearly enough to actually solve it.
That is not psychology. That is a spirit that has been connected to the indwelling one. That is Ephesians 3:20 working exactly the way God designed it.
Now, I want to give you something you can start today. Not a program, not a 20step overhaul, just the beginning of the connection. This week, choose one of the five habits and start there.
Just one. If you have never consistently fed your spirit the word, start there. Pick one scripture that speaks to the area of your life where you feel the most powerless.
Read it every morning. Speak it out loud. Feed it to your spirit before your circumstances get a chance to speak first.
If you have never practiced conscious acknowledgement, start there. Before your feet hit the floor tomorrow morning, say out loud, "Holy Spirit, you are inside me. Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world.
" 1 John 4:4. Say it like you mean it. Because it is true whether you feel it or not.
If you have never carved out time for absolute quietness, start there. 10 minutes, no phone, no music, no agenda, just stillness. And in that stillness, yield your mind to the inddwelling one and let him speak.
The goal is not perfection. The goal is connection. And every small act of connection builds on the last one until the cumulative weight of that fellowship begins to shift things you have been trying to shift by willpower and striving for years.
Now I want to say something to the person who has tried this before, who made the commitment to pray more, read more, be more consistent, and fell off after 2 weeks, maybe three, and who now carries a quiet shame about it that makes them hesitant to try again. I want you to hear this clearly. The father is not keeping score of your failed attempts.
He is not disappointed in you. He is not withholding his presence as punishment for your inconsistency. Romans 8:1.
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. No condemnation, not reduced condemnation, not conditional condemnation based on your performance. None.
The inddwelling one did not leave you when you stopped showing up consistently. He has been there the entire time, patient, present, waiting. And the moment you turn inward again, the connection resumes instantly without penalty, without a waiting period, without having to earn your way back.
That is the nature of the God who lives inside you. Kenyon wrote in the Bible in the light of our redemption that the new creation is the masterpiece of God. Created in Christ Jesus, filled with his spirit, redeemed from every work of the enemy, given legal authority over every circumstance that tries to rise above the knowledge of God.
2 Corinthians 10:5. casting down imaginations and every high thing that exaltth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Every high thing, every diagnosis, every financial mountain, every fear, every defeated thought pattern, all of it is subject to the believer who has learned to live from the inside out.
That is who you are. That is what you were recreated to be. Not a believer who runs to God in crisis and wonders why he feels so distant, but a believer who walks with the inddwelling one so consistently, so daily, so habitually that when the crisis comes, and it will come, you are not caught off guard.
You are not scrambling. You are not begging heaven for something that is already inside you. You simply go inward.
You consult your senior partner and you walk through it. That is the victorious new creation. That is the hidden man of the heart fully developed and fully activated.
Type I am the hidden man of the heart in the comments right now. Not as a wish, as a declaration of who you actually are in Christ. The connection is available.
The indwelling one is waiting. Start the fellowship today.
