One World Trade Center will open to the public tomorrow nearly 14 years after the 911 attacks today we're getting a preview of the panoramic views you'll experience inside the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere CBS new's Andrea Grimes is there and she joins us live right now those views that we're giving you of course via tape that's very true Chris and Mary the fog rolled in a couple hours ago and it hasn't lifted unfortunately but I can assure you the views here are spectacular let's show you some video that we shot last week on a
beautiful day actually about three 3,000 people got free tickets to come up here later today we are some 1,250 ft above street level The Observatory here is about 120,000 Square ft over three floors the view is the star of the show of course but the place is still very Hightech the elevator alone will get you up here in under 60 seconds and with me live this morning morning is Dave cheets the chairman and CEO of Legends which runs the observatory thanks so much for joining us oh thank you for coming so let me ask you
it's so electronic so high-tech what are some of the things that people can see here if by some chance they come and get a foggy view out the windows well there's a lot to do here it's a lot more than just an elevator ride and a view so you can you can rent an iPad for instance that will uh run on GPS technology and allow you to identify all of the hotpots in New York and actually when you click on a hotspot you'll take a helicopter ride from the Trade Center right to to that spot
and hear a narration about what takes place there at the Brooklyn Bridge or Ellis Island or or uh the Chrysler Building any one of 40 hotspots so it's truly an experience the whole thing is an experience talk to me a little bit about what this building what the observatory means to you personally but also to New York City to see this rise up again well to those of us who have been in New York a long time like I have um the the construction of the this building is very meaningful the the ability to put
it back up the resilience of the American people and and New Yorkers frankly to not only put it back up but to put it up in a superb way I mean it is strong the building itself changes colors during the day depending on the sun uh last night the sunset up here was stunning it it's just uh so it's strong it's beautiful and it's a a symbol of freedom for for all of us must be a lot of Pride for you and all the workers here as well oh I think so we had many of
the workers through yesterday to just celebrate the occasion and uh and they were they were emotional about it a lot of hard work a lot of energy a lot of creative thought but what we've ended with uh has actually exceeded my expectations it's beautiful thank you so much and congratulations to all of you thank you very much and this opens to the general public tomorrow we're live at The Observatory One World Trade Andrea gri CBS 2 news all right Andre
