do you want to be able to use nested Loops Like Richard bandler or Milton Ericson well this video is a high dose highly concentrated master class on nested communication and if you able to really focus through the end you're going to learn a the biggest misconception about nested Loops that most trainers are passing on to their students unfortunately B the structure that Milton Ericson and Richard bandler used there is a method there is a structure to those Communications there's phases and lastly the prerequisites what you have to be able to do well in order to
become masterful with ex with nested [Music] communication [Music] the most uh common mistake that people uh make with men nested Loops is that they're a technique in which you tell one story and then another story within that story and then another story and then you close them in reverse order well if that were true then Game of Thrones would have been Eric sonian communication right every show you watch with a cliffhanger where they leave you in suspense and you're on the edge of your seat would be somehow therapeutically healing h Michael Breen really clarified this
for me uh he said that nested Loops are an approach to change work that utilize those open Loops to create certain effects I'm paraphrasing but nested Loops are not a technique like think of the difference between uh classic martial arts where you're in a horseback riding stance you know you're stand standing there very straight your legs are bent and you're throwing punch and you're throwing block like this or Karate Kid doing wax on wax off wax on right hand wax off left hand those are Skill Builders they're Skill Builders they're not how you fight instead
what nested Loops are and again Michael Breen really drove this home he clarified this for me in one of his products he said um read the book The answer within and I listen to this advice and in that book they go over the different phases of nested communication and they're the same phases that you're about to learn so the first phase of nested Loops or if you're a student of the game multiple embedded metaphor the first phase is Hypnotic induction inducing a trance okay and naturally then the last phase of nested Loops would be reorientation
getting people out of hypnosis now it's not always necessary to do a formal induction and outu why well a if you're any if you're skilled at all then you'll know how to induce trance without out a formal induction using just your tone of voice and Rhythm and all that stuff B the nested approach itself uh creates trance when you tell a story within a story and then another story typically the deeper into the structure you go the deeper into trance people go as well so it the the the method itself is Hypnotic all right so
you can start and I often do start just in the next phase which is the matching metaphor so in the matching phase days we're looking to create a match between our metaphor and the client's problem when you do this you will see activation from the client's unconscious mind that they're either more engaged or you'll see some you'll see some shift in them when you do this correctly this is so important if you go back to my videos on The Meta pattern the first step of any transformative coaching or therapy session we have have to get
the client's problem state lit up in order to bring new resources to that area of the brain we have to light that Up Inside the Mind neuroplasticity happens when areas of the brain are active so we have to match the client's problem in an open loop approach we're matching with a story or a metaphor now when you're choosing your story or metaphor you can choose how overt or how covert you want the metaphor to be over meaning the client can make a clear obvious connection that this is about their problem so client comes in for
public speaking fear and you o you make a very overt metaphor my friend John has a public speaking fear the client can make the connection there that we're still talking about their problem that's useful if it's your first session and you know perhaps the client isn't used to uh the way you do change work or not used to multiple embedded metaphors as an approach and it would break Rapport to tell a story that's seemingly not related to their issue uh in corporate you probably want your metaphors to be close enough at least at first or
you or maybe you would have to pre-frame what you're doing so you can have your metaphor be consciously matching now let's say you have a client like mine who uh you know anytime you talk about coaching interventions therapy any of it client has an immediate intense AB reaction trauma level phobic level grabbing the hair screaming freaking out anytime the client knows that you're doing therapy or coaching in that case if my client makes a connection to the fact that I've started therapy it will interfere with the coaching right in this case I'm doing hypnotherapy right
so I'm going to choose a metaphor that he can't consciously identify but even though he can't consciously connect to it it will have the same subject verb object relationships of the problem so that his unconscious mind goes oh we're talking about this thing and it gets active Okay now again again primary goal match the client's problem I've done this with simply using the client's tonality of the problem state right that you just want to remember we're working to an outcome at every stage and if you keep that in mind you can tell no stories to
get there like I did you can tell a overt metaphor you can tell a covert metaphor or you can tell as many stories as necessary to get the match like if you think about Richard bandler when he does a seminar like persuasion engineering Richard will open a lot of matching metaphors at the beginning and each one is about something that you're there to learn right so overcoming objections uh prospecting so it's a sales course and he's matching all the things you're there to learn in the beginning with an open loop and this is where the
open nessed loop approach becomes useful it's that when you open those loops and don't close them the brain is seeking closure it's seeking information it's very different than having a client with their arms closed thinking they know it all or thinking they've tried everything and nothing works for them when you open that Loop and you don't close it it creates the sense of openness and hunger for the answer which is suggestibility in the client yeah so the next phase resource retrieval and again just like the name says we're retrieving resources so think about it if
you're going to make a dinner for example uh what you have to do is you have to prepare your station get the pots and pans out you get the ingredients out you chop up the vegetables you retrieve the resources you're going to need to transform those ingredients into your finished meal right that's what we're doing here so in the classic uh aronian hypnosis these could be hypnotic phenomenon this could be dis uh eliciting dissociation could be catalepsy it could be Amnesia it could be hypnotic phenomenon it could also be and this is what you see
Richard doing a lot of is eliciting states to chain and you'll see like he just tells a story to elicit the state if he gets it he moves on if he doesn't get it he tells another story to elicit the state and another story so we can elicit States we can elicit hypnotic phenomenon what else oh um inoculation this is a good time to preframe the the reasons beliefs the client has for why the change won't work you know uh one of the um groups that I run a lot at the mental inst uh mental
health facility is on State elicitation and it's a hard cell to get people who' have been chronically depressed and anxious for 15 years drugged to the nines uh it's and and been in therapy forever it's a hard cell to get them to believe that in a second they're going to be laughing their freaking butts off they're going to be smiling they're going to be feeling better that's a hard cell they have 15 years of life experience that contradicts that so I inoculate right those First Resource retrieving phases for me in that context are about a
matching the fact that I know what it's like when you haven't been able to change right you don't think anything can come along that will change and then I'm and then I'm inoculating against the beliefs and then I'm giving counter examples about your mood changing about something to come along and change your mood right so your resource retrieval can be anything that you need to use to get the work done what beliefs does the client need to have I might have an anecdote or a story that embedded within the story or metaphor is the belief
I I might need to inoculate against a limiting belief and you get to you get to get feedback from your clients this is a dance it's not I tell the story and it has the effect it's when I tell the story does it have the effect if not you tell another one you give another anecdote another metaphor until you accomplish the phase that you're in in this case getting the resources and once you have your resources okay you can move to the next step this phase is called the direct work phase and in the direct
work phase you do the work you do the core of what you're there to do so if I if I've got my resources this is where I apply them now just because it's a nested approach does not mean that this has to be done inside of a metaphor in fact because you're so many layers deep the client is usually in such a deep trance anyway you're often best off just by using direct suggestion and I had this done to me one time where I was out of training and the the it was over the course
of a day I have been induced into a very deep trans and then the trainer looked at me and gave me one suggestion and it just completely collapsed a negative state that I have been struggling with for a long time so in the Deep work phase you've got your resources you got you your anchors you've got your pre-framed uh phenomenon elicited and you can go right to work on a complish whatever you want and once you've done your direct work you go to the next phase in which we link resources two the context where the
client needs them so in this phase you're taking all that great work and you're linking them to the social context professional context wherever the client needs those changes in a uh classic NLP pattern this is equivalent to conditioning the change and future pacing and indeed uh future Pace here use suggestions to Future pace and to to make sure those resources are going to continue outside of the trans also if you have a bunch of open Loops you're likely going to be closing them here right this is the stage to start closing those loops and finally
you end up in the last Loop to close which is ending your matching metaphor right ending that matching metaphor and then if you had done a formal hypnotic trance then you would reorient them to the world giving post hypnotic suggestions you will continue these learnings Etc ET etc etc so that was as concentrated of a dose of how to use nested Loops well that I can give you and I skipped a lot so in order to be really good at this uh this is the black belt stuff this is the black belt Advanced Kung Fu
stuff and just from your NLP toolkit you have to be really good at working to uh totes you have to understand the tote model you have to be working to be able to work to multiple totes uh within a certain training environment you have to be Exquisite at State elicitation and anchoring in all rep systems you have to be very skilled at storytelling and metaphors you I mean this is the black belt stuff that's just the NLP skills and I didn't even go through all of them how about the aronian skills if you really want
to get good at this you got to learn Ericson inside and out and when you do uh it takes your game to a whole new [Music] level
