Hello, my name is Simon Petricov. I am recording this tape so that people will know my story. Welcome to Watch Mojo.
And today we're counting down our picks for the most disturbing or shocking moments in kids cartoons. Congratulations, Qatara. You're a blood bender.
To be clear, we won't be including any adult animated series. Number 10, Waiting for a Train. Tom and Jerry.
I'll never forget that first morning when it all started. If ever there were two true friends, that was us. Sure, the endless game of cat and mouse Tom and Jerry are engaged in sees the duel engage in plenty of violence, but it's usually all in good fun.
There's nothing fun about this short, though. Tom's pursuit of a beautiful white cat leads him to nothing but misery. The gold digging object of his affections ends up with another cat, and Tom is left depressed, heartbroken, and deeply in debt.
When the jewelry failed to impress her, he signed away his life to buy a car. 312 monthly payments at 112% interest. It cost him an arm and a leg.
Seeing Tom waiting on the train tracks is grim enough, but then Jerry joins him after his own girlfriend runs off with another mouse. Too bad everybody doesn't have a girl like mine. A girl that loves me and only me with every bit of her true blue ever loving heart.
Just two tunes staring in the abyss. You know, kid-friendly stuff. Number nine, The Mask.
Courage the Cowardly Dog. While many of this show's episodes feature dark horror inspired content, this episode goes pitch black with some topics that get way too real. A mass stranger arrives at the house and continually attacks Courage.
Dogs are evil. [Music] [Applause] [Music] The woman eventually revealed to be a cat relates the story of her friend Bunny who gangster dog boyfriend is violent towards her with courage going to rescue her and you want to make me second rate. If I even smell kitty I'll bury the toy.
Domestic violence, abusive relationships and trauma are tricky enough topics in adult shows and seeing them in a cartoon is downright shocking. To be fair though, Courage tackles the subject fairly gracefully. Not all dogs are bad.
Now we can be best friends forever. Number eight, Deadly Force, Gargoyles. Given its gothic tone and more adult storylines, Gargoyles is among the darkest Disney shows in general, but one episode stands out especially.
The Gargoyle Broadway develops an interest in western movies and gunplay. girl. While at his friend Detective Alisa Maza's place, Broadway finds her gun and starts messing around with it, imitating the movies he enjoys.
However, the gun goes off and he accidentally shoots Alisa, leaving her bleeding. My fault. I was playing with the gun.
Stupid of me. Hope I didn't break anything. [Music] Alisa, gun safety is a serious issue, and accidental shootings can be deadly.
Thankfully, Alisa is only injured, but it's still a dark enough moment that this episode is easily the show's most controversial. I'll never touch a gun again. I should have been a lot more careful about where I left it.
We both made mistakes. Yeah, but you nearly paid for those mistakes with your life. Then let's not repeat them.
Number seven, Abra Kadaavver, the Powerpuff Girls. For being all sugar, spice, and everything nice, the Powerpuff Girls goes to some surprisingly scary places. Perhaps the darkest chapter in the show features Abra Kada, a zombie magician who terrorized Townsville.
But our laughter quickly turned to tears as the magic was silenced forever. From detailing the magician's accidental death in a spiked Iron Maiden to his undead nature, Abracadabver is dark in concept and execution. A zombie.
Oh no, it's illusion. He's returned from beyond the grave as Abracadabver the magical zombie. You laughed at me, but now revenge.
Even the girl's defeat of him is pretty shocking. Blossom pulls a magic trick of her own, faking her own death and switching places with Abracadver to trap him in the very trap that killed him. Maybe this is one trick that's better off being ruined.
How did you do it? It's magic, silly. How?
Who? When? But who's in the girls?
I love that voodoo that you do. Number six, Robin's Visions of Slade: Teen Titans. This teen superhero series delves into plenty of serious subject matters.
Yet, it's the return of one of its greatest villains that goes the darkest. Robin continually encounters Slade, a seemingly dead arch enemy of the Teen Titans. However, the rest of the team reveals that they can't see their old foe.
What happened? You are hurting me. Slade ran right by you.
How could you let him get away? But Robin, there was no one there. Robin's hallucinations may end up being the result of a chemical, but his struggle alone against someone no one else can see evokes powerful subjects like PTSD and mental illness.
Slade, you saw him. I don't know if he's real or not, but he's real to Robin, and that's all that matters. The stress on his brain is destroying his body.
Robin truly believes he's fighting Slade, and Slade is winning. Even adult cartoons struggle with tackling these subjects with tac, but Teen Titans does them justice, just like everything else. I've been fighting Slade for so long, I guess it's hard to just let it go, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only one still looking for him.
The only one who can stop him. Robin, you are never alone. Number five, Boris on Bliss.
Captain Planet and the Planet Tears. In addition to its primarily environmental message, Captain Planet also frequently features some very special episodes that deal with some shockingly adult subject matters. One of these cases sees Linka's cousin Boris start using a drug called Bliss.
Now, isn't that the best thing you ever The effects of substant use disorder are detailed with Boris even willingly to betray Linka for a fix and getting her to use as well. I must have more bliss. [Music] While that's bleak on its own, worst of all is that Boris eventually overdoses on Bliss.
Sure, the war on drugs was a major talking point at the time, but showing such a blunt depiction of substance use disorder on a cartoon is pretty depressing. Some drugs are good for you, but many can be harmful. Only use medicine you get from your doctor or your parents.
These can keep you healthy. Number four, Ice King's Past, Adventure Time. Despite its cheery art style, Adventure Time frequently gets surprisingly dark.
Although the Fruit Witch's cannibalism was a tempting alternative, we went with the shocking backstory of the Ice King. Through a series of tapes, Finn and Jake learned that their goofy friendmy had a tragic past. But everything changed when I came into contact with this item, [Music] [Applause] the Ice King.
Once an ordinary human named Simon Petrov, Simon brought and jokingly wore the crown he wears. However, the crown slowly began eating away at his sanity with Simon's unhinged actions driving away his partner. I don't know when it will end.
I'm really scared. I know my mind is changing, but I'm already too far gone to know what to do. I want people to know that if I do things, if I do things that hurt anyone, please, please forgive me.
And given that he apparently lived in the relatively modern day, Ice King has spent his very long life gradually losing his mind. It completely changes our perspective on him from an infectual villain to a damaged old man worthy of sympathy. to celebrate the day when Finn and Jake had a fleeting moment of empathy for the biggest weirdo in Oo.
It was a miracle. Good night. Number three, bloodbending Avatar the Last Airbender.
You're the one who's making people disappear during the full moons. They threw me in prison to rot along with my brothers and sisters. They deserve the same.
You must carry on my work. I won't. I won't use bloodbending and I won't allow you to keep terrorizing this town.
This epic adventure series and indeed its sequel, The Legend of Kora, has been praised for its often mature content. And while the Earth Queen having her breath literally taken away, was a close second. Our pick goes to the disturbing introduction of blood bending.
A and the gang discover people going missing in the Fire Nation and meet Hama, a formerly imprisoned water bender living in the area. You should have learned the technique before you turned against me. It's impossible to fight your way out of my grip.
I control every muscle, every vein in your body. The group eventually learns that Hama is responsible for the disappearances. Having learned to bend the water inside people's body to puppeteer them, the loss of control for the victims is almost more disturbing than death.
Don't hurt your friends, Qatara. And don't let them hurt each other. No.
Number two, Zim steals organs. Invader Zim. Dark humor pervades this Nickelodeon series about a tiny alien invader.
Yet, one of Zim's more drastic attempts to seem more human is especially unsettling. Convinced he needs human organs to pass as human for the school nurse, Zim begins stealing his classmates organs and replaces them with various objects. I don't feel so good.
The whole pass. Zim receives a clean bill of health while his poor classmate Dib is deemed a freak of nature for what Zim puts into him. Your stupid plan won't work.
Zim, you'll never pull this off. You fake craziness, Earth Boy. More organs means more humans.
It will work. The level of body horror involved here is positively grotesque by any standard, and it's often cited as a prime reason for the show's original cancellation. It is inhuman.
It's horrible. The key. Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.

The new Batman Adventures Commissioner Jim Gordon is among Batman's staunchest allies and that runs in the family. His daughter Barbara is Batgirl. Tragically, Jim only finds out about his daughter's secret identity after she's pushed by the super villain scarecrow and she dies from landing on his car.
Jim, how could you? I worked with you, trusted you, and you never told me. She was my daughter.
The scene is horrifically realistic, and it doesn't get much darker than a father mourning the death of his daughter. Well, except for said dad becoming an agent of vengeance against Batman, which leads to both of their deaths, too. Now, I've paid for it with Barbara's life.
Jim, believe me, I know how you feel. You can't. You know how I lost my parents.
The only way I could hold on to my sanity was to take matters into my own hands. That makes us even. Luckily, all of it, including Barbara's death, turns out to be a hallucination caused by Scarecrow.
See, kids, all that trauma never really happened. To the characters, at least. It seems so real.
To you, it was. I've ignored this fear for too long. I have to deal with it.
I understand. Is there an upsetting cartoon moment you're disturbed we forgot? We'll be waiting for your picks in the comments down below.
